Implementation of BW3.5 or BI7.0

Hi Guys..
Our company is going to implement BW. Now our management got stuck that weither we go for Implement BW3.5 or go for BW(BI) 7.0.
As, we got the response from some of the company that BI7.0 is not stable much, there is not much support from SAP & even in the market there are not people expertise much in BI 7.0.
Please advise me, that weather we should go for implement BW3.5 or BI7.0. Which one proves to be more stable,cost efficient & got support from all sense.
Your early feedback will be highly appreciable.

Dear Rocky,
I dont agree with ur comments that BI 7 is not stable as we have already implemented BI7 at Our Place and it is working fine without any troubles. There are so many new features available which are not there in BW.
Even if u implement BW then later on u havge to go for the upgradation so if u implement BI 7now itself. it will be better.
Even Sap also supporting fully as its their baby.

Migration is manual. When you open up a 3.x component in a 2004s tool in migrates it. There is no automatic migration available

All the queries will work if the peratining objects exists in the warehouse. Other than this there aren't any spl measures that actually needs to be taken care to while running the query on BI 7.0, to my knowledge.

Abap routines from bw3.5 to bi7.0

Hi,
As you might aware that in BW3.5 , ABAP procedure language is used and in 7.0. ABAP OO.
when we try to migrate ABAp procedure language update rules to ABAP OO, would system convert them automatically or do we have to migrate each routine manually. I understand that certain abap statements that are in ABAP procedure language will not be suitable in abap oo?
Does any one have list of abap procedure language statements that do not work in ABAP OO?

New NW2004s Data flow
R/3---->PSA only (using Infopackage) for all the Loads -Mandatory
PSA -
>ODS/Cube -->load using DTP ,create transformation first
No Datamart architecture in NW2004s
so ODS -
>Cube load using DTP ,creating transformation first
Once loaded to PSA in DTP you have the option of FULL or DELTA ,full loads all the data from PSA and DELTA loads only the last load of PSA.

Issue w RSCUSTV23 Analysis Authorization System after upg from BW3.5 to BI7

We set it to "Obsolete Concept with RSR Authorization Objects" and we do no understand why from the suddenly changes to
"Current Procedure with Analysis Authorization" from no where - any ideas why from the sudden this changes by itself?
still were not not migrating our security to the new version...we will do it around april...but in the meanwhile i would like ot understand why is happening by itself.

Note that the logging will probably only help you if you activate it in the transport tool profiles (STMS) as it sounds to me as if imports of the customizing are making this setting.
Did you set the value in DEV and transport it through or did you use one of the "BW utility reports" to change it (in which case you do not always have change documents and inconsistent customizing is "by design"...).

Hi Krishna,
Some features of BI 7 are
1. In Infosets now you can include Infocubes as well.
2. The Remodeling transaction helps you add new key figure and characteristics and handles historical data as well without much hassle. This is only for info cube.
3. The BI accelerator (for now only for infocubes) helps in reducing query run time by almost a factor of 10 - 100. This BI accl is a separate box and would cost more. Vendors for these would be HP or IBM.
4. The monitoring has been imprvoed with a new portal based cockpit. Which means you would need to have an EP guy in ur project for implementing the portal !
5. Search functionality hass improved!! You can search any object. Not like 3.5
6. Transformations are in and routines are passe! Yess, you can always revert to the old transactions too.

Delta not working after upgrade from 3.5 to BI7.0

Hello All,
We have recently upgraded from BW3.5 to BI7.0 and the standard delta is not working now after the upgade. The name of the Extractor is 0CRM_SALES_ACT_1.
Did anyone come across this problem before or can anyone suggest the solution.

Hi Madhu,
I've experienced a similar problem with this extractor. I attempted to Initialize Delta with Data Transfer to no avail. The job ran for 12+ hours and stayed in "yellow" status (0 records extracted). The following steps worked for me:
1. Initialize Delta without Data Transfer
2. Run Delta Update
3. Run Full Update and Indicate Request as Repair Request
Worked like a champ, data load finished in less than 2 minutes.

BW Upgrade from 3.1 to BI7.1

Hi,
we are planning to upgrade one of our BW3.1 to BI7.1 ABAP+JAVA system.I need some details about the BW upgrade before palnning.
Our BW current version is BW3.1(SAP BASIS 620)
Is it possible to upgrade BW3.1 ABAP system to BI7.1 ABAP+JAVA system in same upgrade tool?
Is it possible to upgrade BW3.1 to BI7.1 directly?
or do i need to upgrade first BW3.1 to Bw3.5 and then BW3.5 to BI7.1?

I dont think 3.1 had JAVA comnponents - you would have to necessarily go for a separate stack install..
The path would be :
Upgrade 3.1 kernel to 640
Upgrade to 7.1
Install and configure the JAVA Stack - you could have the JAVA WAS running on the same server if required - but your server has to be sized for the same.
You will have to install the JAVA stack separately...
else..
Upgrade to 3.5 - install the JAVA components
Upgrade to 7.1 as a dual stack - but this would mean that you will have to test and validate the 3.5 upgrade first.

Issue while reporting on 0LANGU infoobject in BI7.0

I am facing a issue where in i have created a infoobject referencing InfoObject 0LANGU.After assigning 0LANGU InfoObject as inprovider i am trying to create a report in BI using query designer but unable to view the values of the infoobject.The query results in a exception message.
Can anyone help us with this.

RSRV shows no error for both 0LANGU and the reference IO created Z_LANGU.By default 0LANGU is marked as 'attribute only' which should not be the problem as it works fine in BW3.5 but BI7.0 it is giving a error.
In query designer when i try to open the Z_LANGU characteristics values in left pane the system hangs and gives a dump after sometime.

Modify Context Menu BI7.0

Hi,
I want to modify the context menu in the WAD, so that it includes SAVE rather than having this attached to a button.
I know I can modify the context menu in BW3.5 by using SAPBWAddToMenu and a combination of javascript and html.
I know in BI7.01 (EHP1) the option for SAVE, REFRESH etc is already in the context menu and it can be modified by using SAPbi_AddToMenu.
But in BI7.0, there is no help for modifying the context menu using javascript, this section doesn't exist.
We are currently on BI7.0 SP23, I have tried both SAPBWAddToMenu and SAPbi_AddToMenu, but both give errors in the webtemplate and the context menu does not work at all. It seems as though from BW3.5 to BI7.01 the option has been disabled.
Has anybody managed to modify the context menu of the WAD in BI7.0?
