This is our infrastructure
Windows 2003 Server
SAP ECC 6.0
Oracle 10
Legato Networker Client / Library
Actually our Backup Strategy is to do an Online Backup Every Night from monday to saturday. We want to test our backup by doing a Restore. We are assuming a complete loss of the system including hardware.
What we do:
1. Install the SAP System on a new host with the same hardware characteristic of the source system.
2. Install & Configure the legato utility.
3. Copy the E:\oracle\MIS\sapbackup\ directory from the source system to the test system.
4. Them we put the database in mount mode.
5. Execute the command: brrestore -b bdyxwoqv.fnf -m full (bdyxwoqv.fnf-> Full Online Backup that was executed without problems).
It gives the following errors:
BR0386E File 'F:\ORACLE\MIS\SAPDATA2\SR3_10\SR3.DATA10' reported as not found by
backup utility
BR0386E File 'F:\ORACLE\MIS\SAPDATA3\SR3700_9\SR3700.DATA9' reported as not foun

Since this is a new SAP system it never will find the SAPDATA files because they where on the source system and this is a new test system.
We found the following note:
96848 Disaster recovery for SAP R/3 on Oracle
But this note is for SAP R/3 no for SAP ECC!
It explain that you have to install your SAP system with the System Copy Method (is this the only way??).
2.) Installation of the R/3 System
The installation of SAP software contains the software installation of the database. The initial SAP database should be created again but the SAP data should not be loaded.
Install the SAP system with the Oracle-specific system copy method, which is based on backup/restore. This method is described in the system copy guide for your Product/Release. Refer to Note 659509 for products that are based on Web AS.
3.) Modification of the installation
Above all, you must take into account the mounted file systems at the time of the loss. If necessary create new SAPDATA directories (mount points). These generally identify a disk or a logical storage area (logical volume).
Are we working in the right way? maybe there is a formal procedure to do a Restore from an Online backup when you complete loss your system.
Please some tips.

Thanks a lot for your reply, I will follow the Note 96848 Disaster recovery for SAP R/3 on ORACLE point 5.
5.) Restore profile and log files, as you sayed in case of disaster we will lost our "source" system.
On the other hand to configure the legato client we take care of the name of the server, we configured the .sap, .cfg and .utl files so in theory the restore will be done on the new test system since we run the brrestore command from that system.
Officially there is not a documentation from SAP to do a Restore from a Online Backup with SAP ECC, SAP Netweaver (ABAP / ABAP + Java). You only have the 96848 note??? I found the following information:

But there is not a official procedure like a System Copy Guide or Installation Guide.

SAP has just recently released a note you might want to consider: 1834272. One of the preliminary notes for this note is 1784060...
This works for SAP 6.4. I can not help you where it is specifically related to SAP 4.7

Nuclear fuel will be also similar project.
There will be FI CO, MM, PS, PM modules mainly. Also PP module depending on how you map it.
If lot of report needs to be generated can think of BI module also.

How to implement value only articles in SAP retail.

I have gone through the sap material on Value only materials, but i am not able to get hold of how value only materials would be implemented in SAP retail. Should we use WERT material type to start with or is there any other way to implement the value only materials.

Material type WERT is correct.
In Material type maintenance you can control at all if a store will be value only inventroy managmenet or both.
Further in the Site master WB02, you can control it on MC level.

Implementing Business area in Live SAP environment

We are in 4.7. We want to implement Business area to all our of sites which are already in SAP. I would like to know expert opinion for this critical point.
1. How to include the Business area for the balances in the Inventory , AP and AR Balance sheet GL codes on the date of Golive with Business area configuration?
I tried to put the business area in the opening balance of an accounting document by using transaction FB02 and line item field COBL_GSBER but it is not allowing as the field is greyed out. I have already made this field as changeable field in the document line item control of the configuration.
Also please share the other factors to be considered to implement the BA in live environment.

Implementions of Business Processes in SAP

Hi,
A business process is a series of steps that is triggered by some action and produces some outcome.
Business processes can be implemented in many ways. For example-
Using ABAP programs (Transactions)
Using a workflow, which in turn use Business Objects
1) How can we know which Business Process is implemented using which method?
For example, if we consider a purchase order being placed and it triggers a business process, how can we the way (ABAP Programs/Workflow) in the triggered business process is implemented?
2) If the business process is implemented in ABAP Programs, is it possible to reimplement it in workflow (or vice versa) with minimal effort?
3) I have a large set of questions regarding how sap business process works and I have put my thoughts in a word document. I would like some gurus to go thro it and help me. If you are willing to spend little time, please do post your email id or send an email to [email protected]

With this tool, you can discover the procurement or sales process you describe in your example.
SAP has quite a few generic enterprise solutions and 27 industry specific solutions. I'm not sure you will find a guru who knows everything SAP has to offer.

It's difficult to guage what you are really looking for in your post. So I'll jump down into the application level to try to answer your message.
If you want to use the actual SAP transactions which implement PO, use transaction ME21 (or ME21N) in ERP (SAP R/3). If a system is receiving a PO, you can manually enter a Sales Order using VA01. This is specific to ERP. These Business Processes can also be managed thru our CRM, SRM, and SCM/APO products. In addition, most of these transactions can also be manipulated thru IDOC's or RFC/BAPI versus user interaction.
Hopefully this gets you pointed in the right direction.

SAP Utilities uses SAP Business Workflow to automate the processing of its many business processes. Common workflows include initial creation of a service connection and the disconnection of devices.

As per Note: 2060017 - Change default value of Pcd.BasicRoleFactory.UmAttributesUpdatePolicy to "lazy"
and Configuring PCD Properties - Portal - SAP Library , I have changed the property and restarted..
However issue still persists and its throwing same "PcdInconsistentUpdateException: Transaction cache is outdated for object id " message in default trace..

Disaster Recovery in SAP ERP2005-SR1 ABAP- MSSQL.

Hello.
I am in the process of create a DR server for our SAP ERP2005-SR1 running in SQL2000 with a latest SP patch. This DR server (standby server) is going to have the same SID as my production system, but on a difference host with a difference IP address. I am planning to use a domain installation method to install this DR server. Could someone please provide me with the following information:
1. Can this be done with same <SYSID> but on the difference host, difference IP address but using domain installation method under Netweaver 2004s environment???
2. I am going to use the same <sysid>adm account to perform the same installation, is it possible???
3. Do I need to shutdown production system while I install SAP ERP 2005 on my DR server????
I hope someone could help me with the answer or provide me with the reference documentation on this issue.

Should not have to.
It is a lot of things to consider for a full DR solution. I would start with a Sandbox system before doing anything on PRD...

There are no longer Favourites in my SAP Menu, i used to have in the Workflow all the Transactions that i am operating with, right now they have disappeared, i must look for everything that i needs
i able to access the application and work with it, still i would need to know what happened and how i can get back the settings that i had before

Hi,
If you have added some Transaction Codes or some other items and if they are once deleted you cannot recover them but you would again need to add them. Also this might have happened because you might have re-installed the SAP GUI.
