Implementation of multiple versions of Developer/2000

I have not been able to locate any information that discusses
the supported manner that multiple applications are implemented
when multiple applications are using various versions of Oracle
Developer. The only bulletin discusses implementing a single
version from a network drive.
Our 32-bit Enterprise or corporate environment consists of many
client/server applications most of which only make use of the
SQLNET to attach to Oracle ver 7 & 8 databases.
Currently there is only one application (DMIS) that is running
Forms 4.5.7.15.3 and Reports 2.5.5.19.0 from Developer 2000 v
1.3.2 in the enterprise but other Oracle Developer appls are
positioning themselves for rollout.
The current operating environment looks like this:
Application Server - contains the application's runtimes on a
network drive (L:)
L:\DMIS\RUNTIMES (.fmx, .rdf, .mmx, .pll...)
Middleware Server - contains the current Oracle home dir
V:\APPS\ORANT (v1.3.2) that this application uses
NT 4.0 client -
> The Icon properties are:
>
> Path: V:\APPS\ORANT\BIN\F45RUN32.EXE
> MODULE=L:\DMIS\RUNTIMES\DMISMAIN
> Working dir: L:\DMIS\RUNTIMES
>
> Oracle Registry: Points to Oracle runtimes on V:
Now there are two other applications that are scheduled to
rollout into production from two different organizations. One is
developed using Developer 5.x and the other Developer 6.x Forms
and Reports.
>
My main question revolves around how do I approach this:
1) Do I create 2 other directories on the Middleware Server
/orant5x and /orant6x and perform the Oracle Developer 5.x
and 6.x installs from the same NT workstation?
2) If so, will there be key conflicts created as a result of
having 3 separate Oracle Home references? What would my Oracle
registry look like?
3) What about the System Environment Path for ORANTxx\BIN?
4) What about the System Support Files that are copied into
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32?
Will there be any conflicts on the NT client with the different
.DLLs that need to be installed in \WINNT|SYSTEM32?
Also:
5) What about Forms and Reports backward compatibility between
these versions?
Would I be able to run a 4.5 Form and 2.5 Report with 5.x or 6.x
Form and Report runtimes?
Please help!!!

Aren't you supposed to study for your stats testtonight? Hm? ;-)
No, mom, I've been studying all week and have
prepared to the level I feel is necessary to perform
satisfactorily on the test (despite the ill-wishes of
certain unnamed troll-kin lurking about in the
shadows). I have budgeted an appropriate amount of
time to participate in the flinging of silly
particles (an activity in which you seem particularly
engaged in today, I might add). ;o)How many times have I told you: never mind that troll-kin, it's not even properly
potty trained; no go clean up your room; chop-chop on the double and don't
you dare criticising your old Mom like that. I'm telling your Father about you
when he comes home from the pub tonight.
Now, what was I fixin' again? Ah, yes, rats au bain marie.
kind regards,
Jos (with a high squeaky voice ;-)

I am learning Oracle with David Lockman's book "Teach yourself

before and know SQL. I have no problem understanding the book.
He uses Developer/2000 as the tool to access Oracle, which I
think is a product of the company Oracle. However I can not find
it in the Oracle.com website. Maybe they have changed the name

  • Developer 6.0 or Developer 2000

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between Developer 6.0 and Developer 2000? I'm new on Oracle development and trying to figure out which one I should install on my PC. I've read through many posted topics but could figure it out from those messages.
    Thanks a lot!

Developer 6.0 is the next version of Developer/2000. I recommend you to install Developer 6.0 for your new application.

Can anybody tell me how to get connectivity between Personal Oracle 8.0.3 and Developer 2000 Rel 2.1 in Win 98 Environment.
I am able to install either Oracle 8 or Developer 2000 but not both, even if I use different Oracle Homes.
When I posted the same question to www.xperts.com someone wrote to me saying that a patch has to be used to get the connectivity.

For Windows98. Worked for me, but no guarantee it will solve your problem.
    1) Install Dev2K.
    2) Install PO8i in a separate Oracle home.
    3) Use the following for TNSNAMES.ORA in your DEV2K Home:

  • Two versions of Developer, same machine

I need to use a single machine to access two different applications, one using Developer 2000 v4x and one using Developer v6. What is Oracle's support stance for a machine that has two different versions of Developer loaded on it? Can it work efficiently and/or effectively? How? Thanks for any help.

    Hi Rai,
Sorry about my previous message. Anyways As I was saying I'm trying to Install Developer 2.1 and Developer 6.0 in the Same machine. By default both installations are install in the same Oracle Home Directory C:\ORANT and the same registry Key ORACLE. For Develop 2.1 I have to make some changes to the Registry under the ORACLE key. How can I make this two version coexist in the same machine? What version I have to install first to have a succesfull installation?
Is there any instrucion I can reference to in the Web?
your reply will be greatly appreciated..

  • Multiple versions on one computer?

    Hi!
I am a new Macbook user that I bought to start developing Mac software.
I would like to use multiple versions of Mac OS X on my macbook if possible.
Can this be done so that I would have 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5 of Mac OS X installed and select the version on boot.
    Thank you!

Just to build on what TP has mentioned... the reason for this is that older versions of OS X are never updated for newer hardware. As all Macs ship with the most current OS on them, there is never a need to update previous versions of the OS. There have been a number of significant hardware updates since 10.3 (I don't believe any version of 10.3 was ever released for the Intel Macs). If you had an older MacBook that came with 10.4, you could get away with installing both 10.4 (using the version it shipped with) and 10.5. If you have a more current MacBook, 10.5 is pretty much your only choice.

  • Manage multiple versions(ID CS,CS2,CS3,CS4) of INDD files Indesign proxy for PC

    Dear scripters,
I have multiple version of ID installed in my system. I have ID CS,CS2,CS3 and CS4. While I am opening (double click) the ID CS file, automatically the file opening in CS4. For solving this problem I have searched in the forums I found there is a program called INDESIGN PROXY for MAC OSX. It manages the problems well.
Now I am in the process of developing the application same like that for windows using VB. Here is my observation about Indesign proxy.
    1. While user double clicks the Indesign file the argument is not passing to the Indesign.exe, but the argument passes to the Indesign proxy. Something like this
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\InDesign.exe" "%1"
    to this
    "C:\Program Files\IDproxy\proxy.exe" "%1"
    2. The proxy exe lists all the version of IDs in a dialog box. If user selects CS2, the proxy exe passes the command argument something like this
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS2\InDesign.exe" "%1"
    3. Now the file will open in correct version.
I am comfort with VB forums and coding but I am struck getting the file path while user double click's the file. I short need to get the file path of "%1" argument.
    I think I am detailed.
Kindly advice me how can I proceed more?
    Thanks
    regards

    I don't think it's a mistake.
    "InDesign CS4 (3.0)"
means: this is the OM for InDesign 3.0 (i.e., InDesign CS) that is contained in InDesign CS4.
Wait -- do you mean there might be a difference between "the OM for InDesign 4.0 (i.e., InDesign CS2) that is contained in InDesign CS4" and, say, "OM for InDesign 4.0 (i.e., InDesign CS2) that is contained in InDesign CS5" ?
Why on earth would anyone need that? I imagine it's not because even with versioning the 'older' scripts may not behave the same -- there must be dozens of mails about versioning not working ... I mean, if Adobe knows what causes older scripts to stop working (because, if I understand you correctly, they retroactively change it in the documentation for older versions), wouldn't it be yet easier to not cause those changes?

  • Solaris 11 IPS:  How do you post multiple versions of the same package?

How do you post multiple versions of the same software package on a single IPS instance(port)? Oracle was able to do it here with versions 151 and 175 of S11:
    http://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release/
Unfortunately, based on my searches, no where in the documentation (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris11/technologies/ips-323421.html) does it explain to the development community how this is done. The best I can do is create pkg repo instances on different ports to host each different software version.
We are trying to deploy an IPS repository for our drivers and utilities that our customers can link to and pull updates from. We have been able to post a software package to the repository using the command:
    pkgsend publish -s http://localhost:1234 -d ./ Appv1.p5m
This posts the package on the IPS repository instance at port 1234 on the server. However, we would like to post multiple versions of the package on the server at the same URL. Why the same URL? So that our customers and end-users need only point to a single URL to pull down our software rather than having to add a new URL to the publisher list each time we have an update. We want at least 5 of the previous software versions to be available on the server. Posting each version of the application or driver on a different IPS instance on a different port will require customers to add multiple URLs to their publisher list and they also will not be able to initiate remote scans for updates.
Has anybody been able to do this? Is any documentation forthcoming?

dhduvall: Thanks for your response. Yes, one would think that as long as the version numbers are different, you should be able to accumulate multiple versions of a package in a repository. It looks like Oracle has done it in their S11 repository unfortunately, as far as I know, they have not shared the steps on how to do this. I would like to publish two versions of the same package. I.E. two different manifests with two different fmri.pkg version strings and two different binaries.
If I publish one package after another like this:
    pkgsend publish -s http://localhost:1234 Appv1.p5m
    pkgsend publish -s http://localhost:1234 Appv2.p5m
Then only the second package shows up in the repository, as if it over-wrote the first one.
Running pkgsend with two manifest, like this:
    pkgsend publish -s http://localhost:1234 Appv1.p5m Appv2.p5m
Will cause pkgsend to combine the packages and manifests as if they were a single package... not what I am trying to do.
Both approaches are complete without errors but neither achieves what I am trying to do.
alan.pae: Thank you. Unfortunately, the link didn't really help. I've read Oracle's white papers and IPS developer guide so I'm familiar with the topics covered.
Lex: Yes, I know. I specified the versions in the pkg.fmri value string.

  • Can iTunes handle multiple versions of the same app?

Now that iTunes, iOS, and iDevices have been around long enough for users to have multiple devices on multiple iOS versions, is Apple doing anything to allow users to run multiple versions of the same app through iTunes?
Case in point I have an older iPhone running iOS-5 with a few apps that are now running exclusively on iOS-7, my new iPhone is on iOS-7. Once I sync my new phone with the updated versions of the app, iTunes usually dumps the old version into the trash bin. But what if I need that older version to continue running it on my iOS-5 iPhone?
Is there a workaround for this? I've considered using an old PC as my base computer for sycning the new iPhone, but I still fear that the new app updates will go to all devices running on my iTunes account through iCloud.
If Apple doesn't address this problem at some point then as the years go by certain iDevices will eventually become completely useless even if they are a fully functional piece of electronics.
(spare me the "that's their plan, corporate greed" replies).
    Thanks in advance!

Yes, the apps SHOULD be developed to work with the new stuff, No, not all apps keep their old versions in the App Store, BUT, finally Apple has ALLOWED developers to have multiple versions of an App in the store.
The problem isn't about retarding development, it's about Apple trying to force users to buy new things that they don't need because the old thing, though it works just fine & has the apps that you need, is unable to be used because the apps have been updated in iTunes. Why can't you allow me to keep Facebook 5.0.1 for my old iPhone 3G that is used as an iPod, Facebook 6.7.2 for my iPod Touch & Facebook 19.6.4 for my new iPhone 8? As of now I can download the old version on the old device, but when I sync it it always tries to 'Update' it & then says 'Can't be updated because this version is incompatible with this device' making the sync take 3x as long & meaning that if my device crashes for some reason or I choose to restore it becasue of problems I have to go find the old version, hoping that I saved it, delete the new version, drag in the old version, THEN sync & then move the old version back before updating from my other device (Having done this with the 3G & iTouch 4 for years I learned that when the sync transfers purchases from the phone it 'replaces' the file instead of moving the old 1 to the trash).
Some of these apps I have purchased, & by forcing the update to remove the old version Apple is essentially taking something I have purchased & saying I am no longer allowed to use it.
Just in the what 3 months since the new iOS came out I have noticed that now over half of the apps can't be run on my iPod Touch 4G.
    It's simple, iTunes should either:
Keep a record of the devices that have synced (I know, it already does) & keep the newest version for the lated iOS in iTunes
Let users have multiple versions of the same app in iTunes & allow us to disable update checks for certain apps
Allow users to choose to download from iTunes the different versions of the apps available from the developer
    OR
Allow users to edit the info on Apps, unlinking them from their original & updates & allowing users to keep an old version & still download a new 1

  • Multiple versions of the same Web Dynpro application on the same SAP Portal

I have a single application (local development) and deploy directly to a SAP Portal(NW 7.0) from NWDS Version: 7.0.15
No problems there, works like a charm.
But I want to have multiple versions of the same application on one portal. Eg. ill build a version 1.0 for test and deploy this. Then continue to work on version 1.1 deploying this directly on the portal. The two versions should now co-existing under different names and/or packages.
    Please help.

    Hi Kim,
May be you can try this and see if this works for you. I am not 100% sure if it will work for you, but worth a try I guess. Create a Test WebDynpro project and try the following steps on this project. If they work  out correctly and serve the purpose for you only then try them on your actual Web Dynpro project.
    1. Create a test Web Dynpro project  say "TestWDProject" with Component say "Comp1" and the default views and windows etc.
Also create some working application our of this component and Windows using the Context.
    2. Right click the "Comp1" and select Copy.
    3. Right click 'Components" node in the project structure and select "Paste"
4.This step will try to paste the copy of Comp1 as a new Component.
    5. You can change the Name and Package of the Component.
6.Similarly you'll get the prompts for views, windows etc.
7.Once you have copied everything, Just check if everything looks good.
8.Now you can create a new Application using this new component and the Component Interface View and Deploy it.
9.Test whether the Application created out of this copy works same as the original component.
You can also try to create another Web Dynpro project and paste the Comp1 in the Components node of that new project and perform the same steps.
Again, try with these Test Projects and see if this serves your purpose before applying the steps on actual projects.

    Ajay

  • Distributing multiple versions of an app within a single Windows Store app

The company I work for creates Point Of Sale (POS) software using Software As A Service (SAAS), so we host our clients' databases.  We do not force all of our clients to all be on the same version of our software; i.e. some clients are on version 3,
others v4, others v5, etc.  As you would expect, the database schema for each of these versions is different, so each of these clients also use a different version of our client-side app.
We are looking at making a Windows Store app that acts as a light-weight POS app that clients can use to sell their products.  The problem is, we will require having multiple versions of our Windows Store app in production; the version of the app that
the client uses must correspond to their database version.  We were initially hoping to have our Windows Store app detect which version of the app the client should be using, and then automatically update itself to the correct version, but
were told on this post that it violates the Windows Store certification criteria, so that's not an option.
It has been suggested that we put multiple apps into the Store; one for each version of our software. We really don't want to do this though, as when we upgrade a client's database from one version to the next it would require that they uninstall their current
app and install the newer versions app, causing them to lose all of their custom settings. We would like the updates to remain as transparent to the end users as possible; the store clerk shouldn't need to worry about which version their database is on so
they know which app to download from the Store.
As a possible workaround, is it ok for us to package all 3 versions of our app into a single Windows Store app, and then just have the app check at runtime which version it should run?  I assume that this is alright, since we will not be downloading
any other code or installing any software/apps, as was the case with our original solution that violates the certification criteria.  Essentially we would just have 3 different classes and determine at run-time which classes code we should run.
I know that this solution isn't ideal, as it means our app will be 3 times larger than it needs to be, and that an update to any one of the 3 versions of our software will require an update to the Store app (so potentially users may download a new version
of the Store app, even though it doesn't have any changes for the particular code version (i.e. class) that they will use), but it's one of the best alternatives we have come up with.  I just want to check that this solution doesn't also violate any certification
criteria before we go down this road.
If this is not allowed then our only other alternative might be to go with sideloading (as
I discuss on this thread) and avoid using the Windows Store all together, but we would prefer to use the Store if possible as it eliminates a lot of overhead that we would have to deal with if we use sideloading.
Any insights or suggestions that you can give are appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Mr_bigworlds, thanks for the reply.  The moderator on this post actually told me that this
would be a better forum for my inquiries.  I agree that there may be another forum better suited for this question (there are so many that I don't know about), but since this relates to Windows Store certification criteria, I don't think the Windows Desktop
Development forums are the place for it.
