Implemented MCX - now our Windows DC is overloaded?
We appear to have the "inefficient macAddress query" issue described in this Apple Technote.

We are running Mac OS X 10.6.8 clients with a Windows 2008 Domain Controller.
The problem appeared shortly after we implemented Managed Preferences (MCX) for our Macs. This was done by binding the clients to a Mac 10.6.8 Server in addition to the Windows domain (i.e. Magic Triangle).
Our Windows DC is at 100% cpu utilization for long periods. Login times are slow.
Our central IT department is declining to index the macAddress field in the Windows directory as Apple suggests. They feel that any change to the Windows directory schema, not matter how minor, is too risky.
Does anyone know of a work around?

Hi Rani,
The wizard should guide you through the steps without going too deep. It should replace the old domain configuration with the new one.
If you do go into the deep you can probably resuse some of the config for the old domain, but in the end you'll have to start the config more or less from scratch - the domain has to be updated at several points in the config.
Multi domain is not supported for now. Keep up with the central note and the documentation, though - these will be updated once there's support for it.

On three separate Windows 8.1 Professional machines now, I've had an issue where the Store stops working properly for no apparent reason (no error messages or anything). The store opens, and I can browse apps, and view individual apps, but
once in the app view I cannot click on the Install button or the back buttons.
They "light up" as if being pressed, but they don't actually do anything.
I've tried all the various troubleshooting, including the Windows App troubleshooter, wsreset, re-registering the store files using powershell, and renaming the cache folder in my user profile. No effect.
If I sign into the PCs as another user, then I don't get the issue. As such something is getting corrupted in the profile.
We only have around 9 or 10 Windows 8.1 PCs deployed at our organisation for testing, and three of them have had this fault, which doesn't inspire confidence. As such, we cannot progress with further deployment until we have a fix in place that
doesn't involve wiping the user profile.

I've discovered the cause of this error after much searching.
Based on your suggestion, I checked the Event Viewer and found a string of "Application Error" entries similar to this:

Presumably the WSHost,exe process is critical to the Store and "Metro" apps?
The offending dll file causing this process to fail, sxwmon64.dll belongs to a peice of security software on our machines called Lumension Endpoint Security (we're running version 4.5 SR2). We use this to control removable media (USB) and CDRW access for
our employees.
If I rename that particular DLL file, the store and the calendar app which I was also having issues with (it was blank), spring back into life. -
hello once again.. i have formatted my external Hard drive it using exFAT, now my windows cant detect my device, can u plzz help me the whole purpose is getting ruined, i use Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
This is a problem with the Mac OS X implementation of exFAT. I've had the same problem.
Best is to use a Windows box to format the drive exFAT. Then it can be read by both Windows and Mac OS.
But aren't Macs supposed to "Just Work"? Not in this case. -
After updating Firefox, our (Windows XP) internet system is very slow ?
Last week I updated our Windows XP system with Firefox latest download and now everything is really slow ? It takes much longer than it used to find web pages. I also had the same problem on my home computer, Vista ?

Yes, its best to have each individual apple ids. You can also go to settings, messages, send and recieve, start new conversation from, make sure there is a check mark beside each of your own individual email, not the same one on each phone.

My daughter got her iphone first and used my itunes account for it because she needed the credit card for apps.
Then, i got my iphone and started to use the same account.
Now our phones are mixed up and we get some of each other's texts and pictures.
How am i supposed to fix it?
Can we still share the account or does one of us have to make a new one and if so, does that mean that one of us has to lose everything on our phone?
Please help.YOu can share account for apps and music, but separate for imessage/facetime/icloud
On both devices go to setting - message - send&receive and start a new convo - remove or uncheck the apple id.
When you get a new apple id go to the above settings and input it. -

Is there any way to create a mini Now Playing window that can "float?"

I've been reading the Help in iTunes, as well as searching the Net, but I'm not finding the functionality I want. Basically, I want to have a mini Now Playing window that I can reposition so it's not covered up by other windows while I'm working. Is there a plugin that will do this, or is it a standard feature of iTunes, that I've overlooked?

JasonI'm not sure what you're asking about. What "announcement" are you seeing? Is it possible you've installed a plugin of some sort? iTunes, on its own, doesn't announce what song is playing, except in its usual little gray window.
You can get rid of the iTunes window entirely by clicking the red "close window" button in the upper left (or typing command-option-1). If you are still looking for an answer to your original question — creating a mini-player that floats on top of all other windows — click the green "minimize" button and select "Keep MiniPlayer on top of all other windows" in Preferences > Advanced.

Our Windows PC crashed with all our music on it. There are copies of both purchased (thru iTunes store) and from our own CDs on an external HD in a backup file. They are not linked to a Media file. Is there any way I can put this music on my new computer?

If my memory serves me right (it’s some while since I changed and I have not used Photoshop for some years…) I was running it on XP. I upgraded to Win 7 on a new machine but ported across files, programmes etc. I cannot recall if Photoshop ever ran on Win 7.
I have tried to reinstall but the CD is warped and despite applying pressure to it neither of my drives likes it. I have Photoshop 7 on my third hard drive, a portable drive, which came from the XP machine.

My iPod classic (2007) 80 GB FROZEN SCREEN (Now Playing window showing the song that is suppose to be playing, will not respond to buttons, Will not SYNC, iTunes does not recognize it AT ALL when I plug it in. hold the 'menu' and the 'circle' buttons down at the same time, KEEP the pressed until the apple appears. and now it is working. Hope this helps others. -
Using Audition 2.0 on Windows XP platform. Now have Windows 8.1 on new computer and need to upgrade and load latest version of Audition. Any suggestions? Many thanks, R.
VC6. is rather old, but you can try to convert the VC6 project using the upgrade wizard of VC2012. Depending on the content of the project your code will work more or less without problems, at least it will compile without errors.
You could also go the 2nd way and create in VC2012 a project type using the wizard that is very similar to your current VC6 projcet (MDI, SDI, Dialog Based, ...). Than you replace the files generated by the wizard with the content of your project. Sometimes
this way is more successful.
But at all the automated converting success depends on the code of your VC6 project. I had both, conversions without big problems and also conversions that need a lot changes to run on a current VC version.

I'm an ex-Mac user now on Windows 7: How to acccess my former Mac iTunes library (now on my PC) with my Windows iTunes? I get error message: The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.

RoySo, what I have done so far to try to achieve this is:
I have my Windows PC with it's NTFS formatted external HDD containing the music etc.
I have my Mac with a new external HDD formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
On the Windows PC:
* I opened up iTunes.
* Went into Preferences, and then under the Advanced tab I checked both 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised' and 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library', so that all the files would be in the main iTunes Media folder when I copy it over.
* Then File, Library, Organise Library and ticked the 'Consolidate Files' so that it moves any files that aren't in the right folder.
Next I copied the files over. So I copied the updated media folder from the NTFS (Windows) external HDD onto the Mac external HDD.
And I copied the files from in My Documents/Music/iTunes on the Windows PC to User/Music on the Mac.
But this doesn't seem to have done it.
