Implementing BitLocker on Windows 7 Ultimate in a VMWare Guest

Wow...Prior to this problem, printer issues were the most annoying.I have a 32-bit instance of Windows 7 Ultimate installed in a VMWare guest. The host is a brand new business class Core i7 laptop with 16 GB RAM.I am trying to implement BitLocker in the guest OS, but the first issue was that it couldn't find a TPM (Trusted Platform Module). Understandable considering it was in a virtual world. So I found the group policy option to allow BitLocker to work without a TPM; check. BitLocker let me go to the next step. I saved the startup key to a USB flash drive (which it prompts me to do), and it appears it did what it needed to do because it wouldn't let me go to the next step otherwise. There is then a checkbox with an option to check the system before disk encryption begins. I check that because I need to know it works 100% before I...

  • What is BitLocker and Why Should We Use It in Windows 7 Ultimate & Windows 8 ?

Hello ppl. Today, I'll try to tell you about BitLocker function in Windows 7 Ultimate & Windows 8 in clear words. When we save a document in our harddisk folders these info are easily can be acquired by a hackers if your system is insecure though a good hacker can beat all kinds of antivirus and firewall software. But !!!
If your data are saved encrypted on your harddisk, it is impossible to see that data though these clever guys stole your sensitive info. Because the data can not be seen without a log in password if they have been saved with encryption!!! So here is what BitLocker does!!!
BitLocker saves all your information by encrypting them so you dont have to worry about your sensitive data anymore! Even if they are stolen by other ppl, it's impossible to see your valued work sheets or other personal data such as pics and bank account information as long as you have a good BitLocker password like A3#Be$%Er or whatever.
BitLocker is a standart feature added to Windows 8 but you should upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate to use it in Windows 7.
I'll also start a topic about how to activate BitLocker in Windows 8 shortly.
I try to tell in clean words when I create a topic to help those who have basic knowledge about IT. I hope this helped. If you still have questions about BitLocker please dont hesitate to ask me about them.

    Hi
Thank you for your post . This is a good information which can help users to be protected from hackers
    Cheers!!!

  • Windows 7 Ultimate Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)

    Hello,
I have Windows 7 Ultimate and very recently I have started experiencing this BSOD with an automatic restart.
I took a photo of the BSOD but I'm not sure how to attach it to this post. I even downloaded that Nirsoft BlueScreenView program but it doesn't show up on there. Should I change some setting?
    The message says:
    STOP: 0x0000007E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF80002AC32C2, 0xFFFFFFFFFF880009A9230)
I ran the CheckDisk program and there were no errors. I ran MemTest86 (2 passes) and there were no errors with the memory. I have an NVidia GTX-295 that I downloaded drivers for and it was working fine until a couple of days ago.
I did however install my old ATi Radeon X1900XTX along with the other card and downloaded the drivers for that. It worked fine for a couple of days and then it crashed (BSOD) a couple of times. I have 2 monitors so I removed the ATi card (pulled it out) and deleted every single file related to ATi in the Program Files folder (forgot to "uninstall" the drivers before physically pulling out the card). Connected both monitors to my NVidia GPU and things were back to normal. A few days later, I got the BSOD while playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (through Steam) and then it started happening when I was just surfing the Internet. Now it happens more often and it is extremely frustrating.
I spent several thousand dollars on a BRAND NEW custom SYSTEM BUILD and I am now faced with this BSOD problem.
    PLEASE HELP ME!!
I have an ASUS P6T7 WS Supercomputer Mobo and the release version of the BIOS; have not updated it because I was told I could ruin the whole computer if I screwed something up.
Have 2 SLC SSDs (G-Skill) for my OS drive in RAID-0. This is where Windows 7 Ultimate is installed.
My mouse driver (Logitech MX20 Laser cordless) is from 2006 but I am unable to update it even through the Logitech website. Not sure why.
Every other driver is up to date (or it says 'best version currently installed').
    PLEASE HELP!!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Suzerain,
First of all, upgrade BIOS to the latest version, remove all unnecessary hardware devices from the computer and try entering Windows safe mode to test whether it is a third-party software/hardware compatibility issue. If so, please download and run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check the reason for the issue. If the issue is caused by some incompatible driver, you might go to Device Manager, right click your hardware device in the list and select Update Driver Software; then click Search automatically for updated driver software.
If you still get the BSOD error after installing the latest driver, please understand that Windows system uses separated user mode and kernel mode memory space, stop errors are always caused by kernel portion components, such as a hardware device, third-party drivers, backup software or anti-virus services (buggy services).
The system goes to a blue screen because there is some exceptions happened in the kernel (either the device driver errors or the service errors), and Windows implements this mechanism: When it detects some errors occur in the kernel, it will kill the box in case some more severe damage happens. Then we get a blue screen or the system reboots (it depends on what the system settings are).
To troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. A suggestion would be to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS
If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers.
I hope the problem will be resolved soon. Thanks!

  • AirPort Disk - Issue with Windows Vista Ultimate

I setup an AirPort Extreme network, with a shared USB Drive and so far I've only found one issue.
When attempting to create new files and renaming them, or rename pre-existing files on the shared USB Drive using Windows Vista Ultimate I get the following Yes/No dialog:
"The Z:\ folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted. Do you want to create it?"
Then there's information about the mapped drive. If I click "Yes" in the dialog, then the dialog goes away for a moment then pops back up. I can't create a new file directly on the shared AirPort Disk, nor can I modify or create and rename new files on the disk without getting stuck in the loop.
I can, however, create a new file locally on the Vista box and copy it up, and I can even create a new directory locally with files and copy them up without issue.
Now, the issue does not happen when I use my MacBook or my XP machine. This issues seems to be a Windows Vista issue only, and I haven't seen anyone else reporting it.
Here's information about the disk share implementation:
    - The disk is password protected (turning on accounts really breaks the ability of Windows Vista to work with the disk)
    - The disk is Mac Formatted with Case Sensitivity, and Journaling
This works like a top for OS X and Windows XP, just not Vista. I'd like to getting working properly for all machines.
If anyone's got some advice on this one, I'd love to hear it.

Here's a little more information regarding the issue:
    - It's an AirPort Extreme Wireless Router with Firmware ver. 7.1
    - The Windows Vista Ultimate PC has the most recent Microsoft patches to-date, and has the most recent Apple Airport Utilities Software to-date.

  • Turning on Bitlocker in Windows 7 Beta

Is it possible to turn on Bitlocker for Windows 7 Beta for disk encryption when installed in Boot Camp?

    Hi,
    1&2;
We could follow the procedure talked in the below article to enable bitlocker through group policy:
Cannot Save Recovery Information for Bitlocker in Windows 7
Bitlocker is not available in Windows 7 professional, only available in Ultimate and Enterprise, and yes we could do bitlocker in Windows server 2008 R2 environment on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. There are some new changes made in Windows 8 / Windows 8.1,
if we want to configure new policies, then we should consider to use Windows Server 2012/2012 R2, See:
What's New in BitLocker for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012
What's New in BitLocker for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2
    3.
For MBAM and its advantages, we may take a look at the following article:
Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM)
    4.
We could enable BitLocker without TPM: Allow BitLocker Without A Compatible TPM
    5&6.
    We could manage TPM using
    tpm.msc
If we have policies configured well, then the client side is not able to make changes to the settings.
    7.
We might take a look at the following article:

hello once again.. i have formatted my external Hard drive it using exFAT, now my windows cant detect my device, can u plzz help me the whole purpose is getting ruined, i use Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

This is a problem with the Mac OS X implementation of exFAT. I've had the same problem.
Best is to use a Windows box to format the drive exFAT. Then it can be read by both Windows and Mac OS.
But aren't Macs supposed to "Just Work"? Not in this case.

  • Windows Vista Ultimate and Error -42018

    Hi there,
I upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate about a month ago. I was trying to play music and download new content and the new content downloads would stop with -42018 - unexpected error.
I had to run the compatability wizard and allow Windows XP SP2 settings with administrator access to correct the issue.
I also lost most of my licensing when I upgraded. Hold off for I-Tunes to work with Vista if you are thinking about upgrading.
And on a side note, I think that the new Windows Media "Experience" in Vista is not all that great.

I recently got the Live! Cam Voice for my computer with Windows Vista Ultimate. And for some reason the built in microphone won't work at all - even the voice recorder, the Yahoo! • Unable to uninstall sql server 2012 from Windows 7(ultimate) 64-bit SP1 version.

I am trying to install sql sever 2012 on my m/c but it's giving me error after partial installation.
Now I have successfully installed Sql Server 2008 R2 on my machine but when I am trying to uninstall 2012 sql server from my machine its giving an error regarding unsupported OS. However as mentioned earlier I have Windows 2007 Ultimate SP1 (64-bit) installed
on my machine which is included in valid platform for sql server 2012. Also I installed visual studio 2013 on my machine but it existed with error SqlServer\LocalDB not installed.

    Hi pritamk,
According to your error message, as other post, you can uninstall SQL Server from command line, inaddition, another workaround is that change the compatibility mode of setup.exe to Vista SP2, then run “Remove” option from the control panel. You can refer
    to the following steps.
Browse to your SQL setup bootstrap folder, For SQL Server 2012, this is the path "C:\Program Files \Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2012\".
Go to Setup.exe file and right click on Setup.exe. Then go to properties and click on "Compatibility" tab. Under "Compatibility mode", click on Run this program in compatibility mode for "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)". Then Click on "Apply" then "OK".
After that go to control panel -> Programs and Features -> and remove SQL Server 2012
There is similar issue about uninstalling SQL Server 2012 RC0 from control panel. You can review the following post.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit upgrade to Windows 8 Pro RTM 64bit hangs

I am trying to upgrade Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on a Dell Alienware Aurora R3 desktop PC via DVD to Windows 8 Pro 64bit (RTM) and it freezes on the Windows Splash Screen after the installation and then after the restart. It looks like it has put the PC into
standby mode with the Windows logo frozen on one screen, however I cannot get PC out of 'sleep or hibernate mode' which is what it looks like it's done (flashing yellow Alienware logo).
When it happened the first time I had to manually shut it down and then restart it as the Win8 installation just stalled. After restart it said Windows 8 installation has failed and it successfully rolled back to my instance of Windows 7. I've
tried it again and it's done the same thing.
This is very frustrating as I did a clean install of Windows 8 Pro 64bit (RTM) on my Sony Vaio VGN-Z46GD laptop with no problems.
I have an Alienware Aurora R3 (only 8 months old):
    Intel Core i7-2600K
    8GB RAM
    1.5GB Nvidia GeoForce GTX580

Just thought the Win 8 upgrade would be easy so long after launch but I am getting all of the above! I have done the following:-
Disable options: XD-Bit Capability, Intel SpeedStep Technology and Intel
    C-state Tech.
    http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&docid=586909
Override the current Intel chipset, it appears to be the issue, and run this older one (Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, v.9.2.0.1015, A00) for now:
    http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/alienware-aurora-r3?driverId=R284186&osCode=W764&fileId=2731115303
also install this: Renesas Integrated USB 3.0, v.2.0.4.0, A00
    http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/alienware-aurora-r3?driverId=R286402&osCode=W764&fileId=2731116122
Still it won't reboot/come out of sleep - is there no answer from Dell/Microsoft to get this working?

  • Windows 7 Ultimate x64 BOOT Failure on HP ProBook 450 G1...

    Dear forum viewes and experts...
I hope you can provide me with your insights on this problem i am having...
I bought a new laptop HP ProBook 450 G1 (i5 4200M, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 2GB ATI Graphics card). The laptop comes with DOS free operating system.
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate from ISO file on a USB stick, and then activated the Windows.
After updating all drivers and having a clean device manager with no hardware left as unknown, i figured out that the laptop fails to make a cold BOOT.
After several trials, and installations. the problem remained the same. I changed the installation to Windows 8.1 Pro and the problem remained the same.
On cold booting, the laptop after showing HP logo in start-up starts to show Windows Logo animation but in Super Slow Motion for about 6-8 minutes, then followed by strange sounds which force me to shut it down by pressing power button for long until it shuts down.
After huge number of trail and error, i found out that if I entered BIOS Setup (by pressing esc then F10) and then exiting it without doing any changes or even without saving, the Laptop boots Windows 7 very smoothly (in about 15-18 seconds) and works fine. it also can make endless number of smooth restarts without any problem.
If it is shut down then turned on, the boot failure is the outcome.
The only way to make a successful cold BOOT (i.e after a shut down) is to enter BIOS setup mode (by pressing esc then F10), then exiting it within seconds without changing anything or saving, then it boots smoothly.
I tried MBR fixes through command prompt in Recovery Mode, I tried to change booting to make it boot as LEGACY or UEFI Hybrid. The BIOS is updated to the latest frimware on HP website verion 1.2 dated 15 July 2014.
NO HELP.....All lead to the same disappointing result.
Any idea whether this is a hardware issue/software issue/BIOS issue?
Your insights will be highly appreciated
