Implementing "Open Text" ECM (Enterprise Content Management)

Experts,
My company is implementing Open Text ECM for AP process automation (ex: procure to pay). Can anyone explain the role of an FICO/ABAPer in this scenario.
NW

Hello,
Our company uses IXOS(now Open Text)  for some AP process automation.  At our site the invlovelment of an ABAP developer is limited.   Some custom reports were written to provide certain audit functions(eg show scanned and barcoded documents that have not been linked to an SAP document).  There is also a workflow component, although this is quite small and is really just the implementaion of an SAP delivered workflow.   The other thing that I (as an ABAP develper ) am involved in is server administration for the archive server.   Not so much the physical server as the archive server applciation. I have also been involved in client software installation and configuration( viewer and scan clients).
To sum up, in my experience there has not been that much pure ABAP work involved.  However, the support of this application sort of falls into a 'grey' area in our company.  It is not really SAP functional and not purely server administration.  Perhaps  'cross functional' may be a good word.  The bottom line was tha no one knew who to get to support it so they gave it to an ABAP developer.
Hope that helps a bit.  I know your experience wiil probably be different.
Regards
Greg Kern.

ECM is one of the fastest growing areas in the industry - Sun has not embraced this but Oracle, IBM, EMC and Microsoft are seeing huge growth and expect it to continue for years to come. Bottom line unstructured data is difficult to manage = opportunity.
ECM specialists are very hard to come by these days, I know of many organizations who just cannot recruit high quality staff (both vendors and end users).
Frankly if you had skills in any of the above today you would have your pick of job's and a good rate to go with it.

  • Enterprise content Management

    Dear Friends,
Enterprise content Management is part of portal. But is it part of SAP DMS module.
I have confusion that a SAP DMS consultant should know SAP Enterprise content management.
As I know A SAP DMS consultant should have knowledge of Web DMS, Easy DMS. So in same way is it necessary to have knowledge of SAP ECM.
    With Warm Regard

    Hi Mangesh,
Enterprise content management is a systematic approach via a set of tools/methods that enable an enterprise/organization to capture, organize, store and deliver information crucial to its operations. This can be via solutions like SAP DMS,SAP Arhcivelink,SAP Enterprise portal,Open Text,Records Management Sytems,Documentum,Livelink et-al.
Document Management has some overlap with the concepts of other types of Content Management and is often viewed as a component of Enterprise Content Management Systems.
Coming back to your question, SAP EP/DMS are themselves components of  Enterprise content management system.
P.S. ECM in SAP parlance stands for Engineering Change Mangement.

  • Integrate Siebel eService (8.0) with Oracle  Enterprise Content Management

We are planning to integrate Siebel eService (8.0.0.10) with Oracle Enterprise Content Management. Has anybody did this integration in past and give us some suggestions.

    Hi,
Oracle SQL Net Connect String is the entry in TNSNAME.ORA file which identifies your Oracle Database SID.
    e.g.
    ORCL_SBA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (HOST = host.com)
    (PORT = 1521)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL_SBA)
Here, the Oracle SQL Net Connect String is: ORCL_SBA. Net Connect String is utilized to directly connect with the Database, without any Driver being interfaced in between.
While, ODBC DSN is a all together different stuff. You create ODBC DSN using "Data Sources (ODBC)" Utility under Administrative Tools. Here you need to specify a Driver to Connect to the Database, which should be the Siebel Oracle Driver Provided by DataDirect Technology.
    Hope this clears your confusion.
Oracle SQL Net Connect String & ODBC DSN are two different stuff, used for different reasons.
As Robert said, you need to read the Installation Guide more thoroughly for understanding the nuances of Siebel Installation.
    Thanks,
    Shalabhsneha

  • Enterprise Content Management is it std SAP Module?

    hi, all
Enterprise Content Management is it std SAP Module?
if yes where i can find in ECC-6
    ben

    Hi Benake,
Enterprise Content Management is a concept and if I understand correctly SAP provides a set of tools to manage it.( Refer to wikipedia for a broad overview on EnterpriseContentManagement).
For example the SAP portal is a tool where your content is displayed. You can set up the SAP content servers to store and retrieve the content. You use the trex search functionality to search your content. In short it is a brief set of tools that  SAP provides,
    Hope this clarifies,

  • Accessing attachments stored in Open text (ECC) with Work manager 6.0

    Hello Experts,
We are using Open text in one of our ECC systems to store documents, files, pdfs and other attachments for the Work Orders and Notifications.
We want to configure the Work Manager 6.0 application hosted on SMP2.3, in order to fetch all the Work orders in the mobile device.
Now the question is - Can we access the attachments on the mobile device, from the out of the box Work Manager configuration.
Or, is there a need to install any plug-ins in the ECC/Agentry side to enable the same.
    Thanks,
    Abhishek

    Hi Abhishek,
This isn't out of the box functionality for Work Manager so you'll need to enhance the existing functionality.
To access OpenText Attachments (via ArchiveLink) in WorkManager try looking at the following->
    1. Get Attachments
    BAPI Wrapper - /SMERP/CORE_DOBDSDOCUMENT_GET
    MDO Class - /SMERP/CL_CORE_KWDOCUMENT_DO (Method - GET)
You'll see the above GET method calls (If you GOS_ACTIVE flag is true) - GOS_DOCUMENT_GET_INFO
This is responsilbe for getting the attachment metadata returned to the Work Manager Client ->
    ET_COMPONENTS
    ET_SIGNATURE
    ET_CONNECTIONS
To get the attachment metadata stored in OpenText via ArchiveLink look at the below Function Modules -
    ARCHIV_GET_CONNECTIONS
    ARCHIVOBJECT_STATUS
You could enchance the GOS_DOCUMENT_GET_INFO method with a Post-Exit method or Implement the BADI /SMERP/MDO_CORE_DOCUMENTS - END_BDS_FETCH
    2. Create Attachments
    BAPI Wrapper -/SMERP/CORE_DOBDSDOCUMENT_CRT
    MDO Class - /SMERP/CL_CORE_KWDOCUMENT_DO (Method - CREATE)
This calls the method BDS_DOCUMENT_CREATE to create the file and store it against the Work Order / Notification.
You could look at following Function Modules ->
ARCHIVOBJECT_CREATE_TABLE (Create the file on the OpenText server)
ARCHIV_CONNECTION_INSERT (Link the newly created file with the Work Order / Notification)
The BADI doesn't provide a corresponding Create method so you could enhance the MDO class /SMERP/CL_CORE_KWDOCUMENT_DO with new method that calls the ArchiveLink Logic instead of the BDS_DOCUMENT_CREATE method. The new method can be configured via the Syclo Config Panel to be called instead of the standard CREATE method.
Also check out the document - Document Upload & Download handling in SAP Work Manager 6.0
Section 7 & 8 covers the BAPI Wrappers/Class Handlers & Ehancement Spots for Document handling
    Hope that helps.
    Cheers,

  • Can my client add a link when editing text with the content management of Business Catalyst?

I created a site using Muse. My client chose to host with BC and take advantage of the content management option. She has edited text to include her email and wants to create a hyperlink from that text to her actual email. Is this possible and if so, do I need to change the user Permissions to allow her to do this?

Yes, she is editing content in the admin panel, but when she edits the text, she just gets the option to change text and update. There is not a button for hyperlink and then email. It seems like linking, something so simple, should be allowed. What do I need to do to allow this to happen for her?

  • Budget functionality in MSS ECM, Enterprise Compensation Management

    Hi,
Is there anyone who was able to use and setup the budget functionality from Enterprise Compensation Management in MSS.
We followed all the configuration guides on ECM and were not able to view (and or use) any Budget iviews in MSS related to ECM.
(PS. There are no ECM budget iViews at all.)
Here we use ECM in the SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0 with MSS business package 60.1 and backend SAP HR 4.7 on SAP WAS 6.20.
Please let me know how you did this.
    Many thanks.
    Ramon Spaan

    Hello Ramon
Could u  tell me what are the settings you had ready in place before you started the config for CM.
I know we need the PA,PSA,EG,ESG for determining the eligibility. Apart from that , what about any other settings or info we need from the users in particular ? IS there a standard list ?
Would we need any infotypes to be populated prior ?
Since MSS would use ECM and we are config on 4.7 vrsion2, do I take into account infotypes such as 0759 and 0758 in addition to 0381 for the settings ?
