Implementing WAAS with Firewall

Hello,
I'm about to run a WAAS implementation Project but I have got below prerequisites that it should be taken on firewalls from one of my colleague, can you please let me know whether this is true?
1) disable checking the TCP Sequence Number Fields
2) to allow TCP option modifications.
Doing this may leave the Customer LAN environment vulnerable to DoS attacks. In addition, Cisco has encountered many challenges getting WAAS to work even when both of these items have been changed on the FWs.

Thanks. I see the following options for deploying WAAS:
Disable a bunch of security checks on the firewall(s) to allow WAAS traffic to flow through
Use Direrected Mode in WAAS to tunnel optimized traffic through the firewall
Place the WAAS devices "outside" the firewalls so that the firewall(s) only see the LAN side (i.e. unoptimized) traffic
I'm personally not a fan of (1) or (2) above, since they reduce the level of benefit provided by the firewall(s) or hide optimized traffic from them all together. Option (3) may be an option, but it depends on your topology.
Do you have a topology diagram of your deployment that you can share?

SMB Digital Signing is enabled by default on Domain Controllers - I'll double check, but don't believe it is enabled across ALL 2008 Server, but it would be worth checking.
Digital Signing is designed to prevent man in the middle attacks - which is precisely what WAAS is doing
Turning it of generally improves speed by around 20% even without WAAS, and lets WAAS use full DRE and the CIFS adapter to cache files.

According to that, it's NOT enabled across the board in 2008, just on the DC's.
My company uses waas, as you can see above whenever i try to do the implementation waas is giving me the following message "pt in ad error"for all the connections that will be compatible with windows, I did some research and what's above has to do with the digital windows certificate which waas is struggling to open due to the code encrypted in the certificate. do you happen to have a way of enabling the certificate within the module. another option would be to disable the certificate in windows server 2008?

PT AD Int Error has nothing to do with SMB digital signatures. PT AD Int error means TFO auto-discovery failed and could not negotiate an optimized flow; this is during the TCP 3-way handshake before digital signatures even come into play
A common reason for PT AD Int Error status is another device in the path before WAAS has filled up the TCP options field with other data, thus leaving no room for WAAS to put it's TCP opt 0x21.
Once you resolve the PT AD Int Error problem and a CIFS AO negotiated policy occurs, if the server/client require digital signatures then you will see the connection as T,G,D,L or T,G (meaning Generic AO).
If digital signatures are not required the CIFS connections will show as T,C,D,L.
I suggest you take packet captures on both client and server side WAEs to see how SYN and SYN-ACK packets are reaching the WAE and see if the options field is filed with data before reaching the WAE.

WAAS with IPSEC or GRE tunnels

Hello,
I have a client with HQ and remote site, I need to implement WAAS between them.
issue is they are connected GRE over IPsec over MPLS WAAN, is there anything to take care about when implementing WAAS in GRE/IPSEC deployment.

I would keep in mind the following things...
1. Interception - You have to ensure you intercept the traffic outside the tunnels, otherwise you won't get any compression. Hardware based switches like the Cat6K cannot use WCCP on tunnel interfaces. Software based routers can do interception on tunnel interfaces, but don't scale as much as the hardware assisted platforms.
2. Packet size - if you are getting excessive fragmentation, try lowering the Optimized MSS value on the WAEs to under what you need for headers. WAAS default is 1432.
Other then that, what you have is a pretty normal installation situation.

Is it posible to use one Cisco WAAS with dual inlineports connected to two PTT routers?
Both PTT routers is active and load balacing with BGP wth local L3 switches.
Or is it a most to use WCCP?

Just because I've previously ran into problems, because WAAS obfuscates sequence numbers.
On newer (greenfield) implementations of WAAS, BGP is set to pass-through as default.

If the policies is migrated from a WAAS Central manager running versions earlier than 4.4, the default was LS+TFO+DRE - from 4.3.x the default changed to Pass-Through.

How can I see shared pc with firewall set to allow only essential services?
So far if I set it as above then shared does not show up? I have to set the firewall to set access to specific applications and services to get access to my windows based hard drive.

Ok I solved it myself. Not an ideal solution as I have to connect it manually each time but it will do... Unless anyone has a way to have it auto connect when I start the mac.

Problem accessing iPlanet with Firewall

We have iPlanet 4.1 SP9 webserver installed in Solaris 8. The server is configured with IP address 10.98.23.17. We are able to access our JSP web application successfully thru intranet without any firewall.
But, we face problems while accessing with Firewall. I will explain the situation below :
We have another network with ip range 193.1.1.XXX. There is a firewall between 193.1.1.XXX and 10.99.23.XXX.
When the user in the 193 network types URL as htp://193.1.1.38/test which is the firewall IP, the firewall does the NATting and handover the request to 10.98.23.17. The reply from the iplanet to the user is coming back as http://10.98.23.17/test. Since, 10.98.23.17 is not reachable from 193 network, he is not able to access the web application.
I want the reply from iPlanet to the user to come as http://193.1.1.38/test. How to solve this problem ? Kindly help me ?

It sounds like you need to modify the ServerName line in the config/magnus.conf configuration file to reflect the externally visible hostname or IP address. In your case, the config/magnus.conf file should contain the following line:
ServerName 193.1.1.38

WLS Proxy in Cluster with Firewall

We are currently setting up a system that has a DMZ with Netscape inside
          the DMZ proxying a WLS cluster that is behind the DMZ. When a cookie
          based session is started a cookie is returned successfully, but it looks
          like the physical address versuses a firewalled(NATed) address is placed
          in the cookie. This in turn causes a failure on accessing the WLS
          server. The firewall rejects future requests due to the use of the
          physical instead of the NATed address.

Where can I get the sources of JSF implementation bundled with JDeveloper 10.1.3.1 (1.1_02-b08)?

Fair enough. Yes, as far as I know those implementation classes aren't available. Contacting Sun's consulting services is one option, of course. Make sure you get someone who has actual experience with the classes in question, rather than just anyone who happens to be on the bench right now, 'cos they'll charge you handsomely either way.
I take it you've considered decompiling the classes in question ? Obviously there are legal issues to consider if you go that route, but I've found the Kaffe tool handy before now.

The only other thing I can think of is taking a dig around the IBM site to see if any of their equivalent classes are available in source form. I've always used the Sun versions, however, so I've no idea how likely this is.

Any body can suggest for this implementation feasibility and possibility.
What are the Business packages has to down load and where can we get those BPs.?
After importing into EP 6.0 , what are the configurations and settings required to get SAP HR screens/ivews (preview when we create after systems in EP),
What are the prerequisites and hardware and software requirements for 8000 users (apprx) ?
Any version upgradations are required for implementing this or
can we use this ECC 6.0 as backend and EP 6.0
and please help required for all those things.

For ESS/MSS based on ECC 6.0 (ERP 2005), you can download the XSS business packages from
service.sap.com/download --> Support patches and packages --> Entry By application Group --> SAP Application Components --> SAP ERP -->
SAP ERP 2005 --> Entry By Component --> SAP XSS --> (SAP ESS 600, SAP MSS 600 and SAP PCUI_GP 600).
You can use JSPM to apply these business packages on to the portal. To use JSPM, you have to login to the portal server using <SID>adm to be able to use the JSPM tool.
Business Packages and components in it: you BP consists of the 2 following parts
1) BP_ERP5ESS / BP_ERP5MSS is Portal Business package which consist of iview, pages and roles.. while SAP_ESS / SAP_MSS. is WebDynpro part of it.
These iviews will direct to some WD application which are part of SAP_ESS / SAP_MSS. and they are deployed on server.

recently a new tool has been published on the SDN which may help you to reduce the implementation time of SAP Business One 2005 A SP01.

The package contains: The Configuration Express Wizard, a presentation explaining how to use the tool, and two webex sessions for more details.

Problems with Firewall settings

Hello,
I'm having some odd issues with Firewall. Clicking on "Security", causes me to get the pinwheel. It eventually loads, but it's very slow. I also have issues when I turn on the Firewall, I allow connections for screen sharing, but Back to My Mac shows Orange and that it may have issues. I also have issues with DVD sharing when I have also allowed CD/DVD sharing in the options. Everything revolved around Security/Firewall. Is there anything I can do to diagnose these issues? I have a Time Capsule as my router.

I did look and Console and I do see this error sometimes when I click on the Security preferences tab:

I have a Time Capsule. I don't think that has anything turned on. I have the default settings. I know of other uses with Time Capsule with the exact same problem.
