Implication of having serialization profile
Can anybody tell me that why serialization profile is used in material master? It somehow serves the same purpose as done in Batch Management. So what's the advantage of having serial number. Moreover serial number has its constraints like uniqueness at plant level; thus plant to plant transfer of a material cannot be done due to this.So why not use Batch management instead?
Hello
Serial number profile is used to assign the serial number to an individual prodcut during a busines stransection. It can be Good receipt , delivery for e.g.
in Batch management you assign a batch number to a lot say for 100 ea.. Serial number profile will ask to put a unique serial number to each of these 100s in a specific batch..
It is used generally in products where the indiviual identification is required for a tracking purpose
Hope it helps..pl reward points if find this useful

What are the security implications of having JAVA running on my Mac Book Pro?
What are the security implications of having JAVA running on my Mac Book Pro?
Java on the Web (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related, despite the similarity of the names) is a weak point in the security of any system. Java is, among other things, a platform for running complex applications in a web page, on the client. That was always a bad idea, and Java's developers have proven themselves incapable of implementing it without also creating a portal for malware to enter. Past Java exploits are the closest thing there has ever been to a Windows-style virus affecting OS X. Merely loading a page with malicious Java content could be harmful.
Fortunately, client-side Java on the Web is obsolete and mostly extinct. Only a few outmoded sites still use it. Try to hasten the process of extinction by avoiding those sites, if you have a choice. Forget about playing games or other non-essential uses of Java.
Java is not included in OS X 10.7 and later. Discrete Java installers are distributed by Apple and by Oracle (the developer of Java.) Don't use either one unless you need it. Most people don't. If Java is installed, disable it — not JavaScript — in your browsers.
Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java on the Web can't be trusted. If you must use a Java applet for a task on a specific site, enable Java only for that site in Safari. Never enable Java for a public website that carries third-party advertising. Use it only on well-known, login-protected, secure websites without ads. In Safari 6 or later, you'll see a lock icon in the address bar with the abbreviation "https" when visiting a secure site. -
Having network profiles is causing so many problems with applications
Perhaps someone could explain this to me, because i must be doing something wrong.
We have 10.4.6 client machines, and a 10.4.6 server. They login and their profiles are on the server and accessed via AFP, ok all is well there.
But ever since Tiger (Panther never had this problem) having network profiles causes so many problems with applications. Here are just some examples:
1. MS Office 2004 programs will sometimes say all the system fonts are corrupted when they are not. The only way to fix this is to log the user out and delete the Microsoft preferences folder from their network profile from the server. Doing it from the client doesn't work unless you get them to logon in safe boot.
2. Office 2004 will also randomly not save documents or autorecovery files, claiming that "too many files are open" or that the disk is full, when their profiles have 100s of megabytes left.
3. Safari will randomly stop working. When you load up Safari it will load up websites all distorted, and then eventually give up and force quit. The only way to fix this is...again deleting the Safari preferences from the server whilst the client is logged off.
4. Adobe Photoshop files will randomly corrupt, causing "End of file" errors when files are opened.
Now i've narrowed it down to the basic fact that the clients are using network profiles via AFP. I've experimented them logging onto the server and using local profiles and the programs all work perfectly. My setup is exactly the same as it was on Panther, and panther had none of these problems.
Surely i am not the only one who is experiencing this?Do you have the "Inherit Permissions" option via POSIX access enabled for the home directory share point? If so, disable it, as home directories need standard POSIX permissions.
I've seen some problems with third-party applications - namely Adobe CS2 - when using network homes mounted via AFP. Others have reported problems with Office 2004. There are other oddities, even observable in the Finder, mostly due to changes that enabled metadata (Spotlight) for AFP. However, never have I seen Apple applications like Safari not work correctly with network homes; thus, there might be another problem here.
I'd check the filesystems for all volumes on the server using Disk Utility and repair any damage found.
You may want to consider using Portable Homes for better compatibility with Office 2004 (unfortunately).

Any Benefit to having User Profile Service on more than one server
I have an application that uses UPSA and UPSS, the User profile Service and Sync Service are started on the same server
Is there any point in having the User Profile Service started on a second server for redundancy.
I understand that a UP Sync Service can only be associalted with one User Profile Service Application
Can I make my User profile Service Fault tolerant by starting the service on more than one server?
I am not looking to create a second Use Profile Service Application to have seperate DB's and things
Just to have User Profile still avaialble when the serevr hosting it has an issue
thanks
themushTo get the round robin load balancing, just start the service in Services on Server on more than one server.

Implications of having a high CRL publication interval
Hello
We have a 2 tier internal CA structure
One of my regular tasks is to check the CAs for expired certificates or expired CRLS
The Root CA as well as the issuing CAs have CRL published intervals set to 6 months for both the Full and Delta CRL list (these are offline)
Their respective CRLS have all but a handful of revoked certificates
The Subordinate CA seems to do all of the work relating to issuing and revoking certificates. Its CRL is quite large and has an interval set of 1 Week for the Full CRL and 2 hours for the Delta
Today I checked the CRL and it was set to expire this Sunday
What would be the implications if I let this CRL expire?. Would it renew / republish itself automatically?
I published it manually just in case; but it got me thinking about what the implications would be if I set the renewal period higher for the CRL?
We have a regular task of powering on the offline CAs and re-publishing their CRLs / certificates before they are set to expire. I suspect that the online servers would be able to do this themselves?it depends on a number of factors and each approach has its own pros and cons. For example, by having a long-living CRL, you reduce network traffic used by clients to download and fetch CRLs. However reaction time (to recognize certificate as revoked)
is slow. For enough long time revoked certificate will be accepted by clients as valid. By having short-living CRL you reduce reaction time and clients more timely determine recently revoked certificate as revoked. However, this approach increases CRL traffic,
because CRL is short-living and shall be downloaded by clients more frequently.
As a general practice, offline CAs (usually, root and policy) that issue certificates only to other CAs and never issue certs to end entities may have long-living CRL. About 6-12 months, because CA revocation is something unlikely because of high security
measures (strict physical and remote access, HSM and so on). Online CAs that issue certificates to end entities should have short-living CRLs, because client certificates are less protected and revocation is not something unusual. Default value for Windows
CAs is 1 week. You should think this like a start point and configure CRL lifetime comparable to this value.

Color management question on having separate profiles in one document
I have a document with images in it that have attached printer profiles with different separations, I'd like to print without further conversion of these images since they are profiled to be printed with no color management, how do I go about this?
Does Indesign see the attached profiles and ignore the document profile? Or Do I have to set a document profile with no UCR/GCR that will maintain CMYK values.
Thank you>I'd like to print without further conversion of these images
Profiles are only useful if there needs to be additional color conversions at output or exporta conversion to a new CMYK space (new press conditions) or conversion to RGB for monitor display or an RGB proofing device.
You don't want or need additional CMYK to CMYK conversions so you don't need the embedded profiles. When the profiles are ignored, the ID document profile is assigned to the images (there's no conversion) and as long as you output with the destination as Document CMYK the image values will be output with no change.
Ignoring the profiles can potentially change the ID preview of images separated with conflicting profiles (CMYK>RGB), but it sounds like you are simply separating for different black generations so you shouldn't see a preview change. -
What is the use of having process profiles in SPP?
Dear all,
what is the use of process profile in spp? it says we use it for specifying packaging methods and packaging sizes, but what are they used for?
can someone throw some light on it please?
regards,
binodHi Binod,
You define a process profile in Customizing for SCM Basis under Planning Service Manager ® Define Process Profile. A process profile includes a method for package creation and the maximum number of planning objects that a package can contain.
This is one of the steps in creating a Planning Service Manager Jobs.
If you setup a PSM job and run it then you get a clear idea.

Asynch web services having serialization problem wint 7.0SP1
Hi,
I've tried creating a simple async web service that sends a Java bean to a web
service that's implemented
as an MDB. i.e. The java bean is of type malcolm.AimosMatchedRequest and is therefore
delivered as
an ObjectMessage.
I keep getting a deserialising error listed below in the Weblogic log.
Now if I do a serialver on my Javabean class I get the value 6661344068394585445
in agreement with the log for the stream classdesc. I therefore presume that
the
local class, is the server view which I guess is the SOAP unmarshaled/generated
class that
WebLogic is expecting???
How do I deal with this problem? Note that explitiely forcing the serialuid in
my Javabean class
does not help, which to me confirms that WebLogic is geenrating some SOAP equiv
class.

Hi Malcolm,
<p>There's been a significant amount of work done on async services in
conjunction with reliable ws messaging that will be available in the
next
release.
<p>Can you/your customer be part of the upcoming beta?Certainly keen to participate. I presume from what you've said that SP1 is still
problematic for async. I've found that SP1 seems pretty good for synch web services

Two user with same profile and role having different authorization
Dear All,
I have very strange case of authorization . We have a new abap developer in our company . Her profile as copied from an exiting abap developer's profile in Development system. But she don't have authorization for lot of transaction that the existing user have. I checked the profile tabs , role tabs . then done the user compare for all the roles , but of no use.
I did a compare of the two uses using S_BCE_68001430 and could see is that the existing abap user is having authorization starting with T_PXXXXXXXX that is giving him extra rights. These authorization is not present in any of the existing role he is assigned to (checked using S_BCE_68001396). The authirsaction in the roles start with T-DXXXXXXXX
Will appreciate if any one can give any input . The problem is i need to assign each authorisation the existing user having manually to the new user.
regards
TonyThanks for the mail.
I check the "Reference User for Additional Rights" -- there is no refernce user assgined.
I checked the table USR04 the no. of Profle for the two users are diffrent and in the table UST04 also the the existing uer is having addtional profiles.
I like to add one more point Some of the roles of the two users are composite roles and both the composite and its orignial roles are included the profile of both users.
Does any one have idea of the authorisations starting with T_PXXXXXXXX

Cant open multiple profiles at the same time on Outlook.
So i have done some research and found that you can use command line switches to open different profiles in Outlook.
e.g. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\OUTLOOK.EXE" /profiles "ProfileName"
What i want to do is open two different profiles at the same time. So i already have one profile open, i use the method above, however it simply opens a copy of the profile i already have open rather than the one i defined in the command line switch?
I know it works because if i don't have a profile open it opens the profile i specify. Is this by design? If so what is the point in having a profile switch? If someone could help me get this working it would be great.
Thanks in advance.Hi Eric,
Thanks for confirming this. We already have all the mailboxes that she wants on her main profile. The problem is that Outlook cant handle processing all of these at the same time and continuously crashes and hangs. As i said previously the .ost for her profile
was 16GB, i have managed to reduce to 9GB but Microsoft themselves say that anything above 5GB needs extra hardware power for a good user experience.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2695805/en-gb
Up to 5 gigabytes (GB): This file size should provide a good user experience on most hardware.
Between 5 and 10 GB: This file size is typically hardware dependent. Therefore, if you have a fast hard disk and lots of RAM, your experience will be better. However, slower hard disk drives,
such as drives that are typically found on portable computers or early-generation solid-state drives (SSDs), experience some application pauses when the drives respond.
More than 10 GB: When the .ost file reaches this size, short pauses begin to occur on most hardware.
Very large (25 GB or larger): An .ost file of this size increases the frequency of short pauses, especially while you are downloading new email messages. However, you can use Send/Receive
groups to manually sync your mail. For more information about Send/Receive groups, see the "Are you synchronizing many RSS feeds?" section.
I find it surprising that you cant have multiple profiles with different mailboxes when you consider you can only have an .ost up 5GB to have a good user experience. Maybe this is something the developers can put into the next version of Outlook? Or release
as a patch? -
I'm having a problem with Thunderbird that is addressed in several postings here and on "mozillaZine," but in trying to follow the instructions given for fixing it, I have run into a new problem that I don't see addressed. The original problem is the one described in this thread, where my folders and everything have just vanished, and I'm prompted on startup to create a whole new profile:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1040003
Following the links in that thread, I get to this -- and since my address book has also apparently disappeared, I click the internal link to the section headed "Lost Profile":
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Recovering_a_profile_that_suddenly_disappeared
Step 1 then sends me here:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder_-_Thunderbird
Step 2 on that page says, "Copy the profile folder to where you want to store it." When I try to do that, though (using Windows Explorer on Windows 7), it gets partway through the copying and then hangs up because it runs into a filename that is too long to copy. And according to the prompt that tells me this, there are many more such long filenames still to come.
Do I ignore this error and just skip those files? That means the profile copy won't be complete, which I would think would be dangerous and/or would just cause further errors. Or is there some simpler way altogether to do what I originally set out to do, which is recover the profile that just mysteriously disappeared?
Again, I'm running Thunderbird on Windows 7, and had been using it for years without ever before encountering this extremely irritating glitch. I'll be grateful for any help.I very much appreciate both these answers and will save them for future reference if needed. The problem seems to be resolved, although not for any reason I can explain. What happened was that I suddenly had three problems all in the same 24 hours or so: a very slow, almost unusable internet (I thought connected with my "IPv6 Connectivity"), then the Thunderbird crash, then Google Chrome not starting. Whether and how these are all related, I don't know. Anyway, while I was sitting here unable to get e-mail or get back into this forum, I decided to try a System Restore just for the heck of it, even though someone else had reported this not working. And it too seemed to fail, at first, giving me an error message that said the system couldn't be restored due to an "unknown error." But clearly at least part of it worked, because I am seeing some earlier settings, and Thunderbird then started -- almost normally, except for needing my passwords entered again.
So I'm running "MozBackup" now in hopes of having the profile readily available next time this problem comes up. Also, Chrome is now working again after I did something or other with the security settings, and the internet seems normal even though my IPv6 status still shows "No network access." I really don't know what's been going on, but for whatever reason everything seems fixed. For now. :-S
Again, I'm sincerely grateful for your efforts to help me. Now that I'm a member of the forum I'll try to do the same for someone else. -
Aperture and dual monitor ICC profile problem
I am using an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 and run Aperture 2.1 from a MBP with a Cinema Display 23". I calibrated both displays (the 23" and the MBP display) with my ancient but working ColorVision Spyder, using OptiCal 3.7. I calibrated for a gamma of 2.2. and native white point. I check the results with various test images.
Here is the problem: the calibration produces a perfectly calibrated display, but when I open Aperture some color change is taking place, as if Aperture pulls in a wrong profile for the display (which then also leads to wrong colors in the prints): sometimes the photo which I have printed out before in perfect quality displays with either a nasty yellow cast or with totally oversaturated colors. I have used ColorSync utility to make the 23" the default display and I have also tried to simply close the MBP to work only with the 23", and sometimes either of these this did the trick. Most of the times, however, I get these color casts or oversaturation of the photos which I had worked on for a while and printed earlier with perfection.
I ran Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions (many Epson-related permissions were wrong, for example "Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/Libraries/UtilityCore.framework/Versions/ A/Resources/Icon8007.png", should be -rw-rw-r-- , they are -rwxrwxr-x ) and reinstalled the latest Epson driver for 10.5 repeatedly.
Even more surprising, at times the color of the full screen image can be off at the same time the thumbnail looks perfect! How is this possible? It seems as if thumbnail and full image use different display profiles. In addition, if I export the Master and display it in Lightroom or CS2 it looks perfectly fine and prints as expected. (I use the appropriate "canned" ICC profiles for the printer-paper combination).
The most surprising happens, however, when I drag the image from the 23" to the MBP: when the image is about half-way between the two displays (that is, one part is displayed on the 23", the other on the MBP scree) it suddenly changes from off-color or oversaturated to the correct color on the 23". If I then move the image up to the 23" again, the wrong display colors appear again.
I am at a loss: I have spent a lot of money on the gorgeous screen, the great printer, and Aperture (which is a great program), but I cannot get Aperture to print reliably, or rather, I cannot get Aperture to use the right display profile to display the image correctly in a reliable way.
I have read kbeat's color management blog and many entries on this blog here, but I have not found a solution. I appreciate your help.Kai,Simon,
This is the problem i have been having.Colour profiling is correct, prints are rubbish.I run a fuji frontier
as well as epson printers.Anything from aperture is not what you see on screen.I am running aperture2.1.
Today we are removing 2.1 and doing a reinstall of 1.1 but not upgrading to 2 to test run prints.I have been looking for answers to this for sometime.
Simon, the problems we are have are very similar to you clients, photoshop fine, aperture not.I also have 20"external apple monitor attached which is used as the colour correcting monitor ( as the imac screen is not that good for criticl work ) I will post my findings here.

Color Management Custom Profiles - None available (Vista)
I get bad color in my prints from LR. My printer supports Adobe RGB, and hence I believe it would fix the problem is I could get LR to convert the image to Adobe RGB before printing. Under Color Management, I click on "Managed by Printer" to get a popup menu that has both "Managed by Printer" (checked) and "Other" as options. I select "Other" and a window appears with the title "Choose Profiles" and the text "Choose profiles to appear in Custom Profile popup:" The problem is that the window is empty. There are no choices! I have checked and I have the ICC files installed in Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color and they are associated with my printer by windows. I copied and add icm versions of the icc files. Still no profiles appear.
Does this work for others? Can anyone get any options to show up?
Thanks for any help or advice.
DavyAdobeRGB and sRGB are NOT printer profiles, they are color spaces and you should not be able to select them in Lightroom. You need actual printer profiles if you want to print application managed from lightroom. Almost every reasonably modern printer includes them. It looks like this printer does not include them in a way so that you can use them. On most printers, you can still print printer managed, but it appears that this printer is not correctly color managed. I checked out the manual for it and it clearly is not color managed at all. Typical for HP's consumer line unfortunately. Apart from having a profile generated by any of the places that do that for you (which is about as expensive as an ink cartridge), I don't think you can print to this thing from Lightroom at all. In this case, really the printer manufacturer is to blame. They should have been doing ICC/ICM color management ages ago instead of relying on all applications to be dumb. It still stinks though.

Significance of profile name in configuration profile
Hi all experts in SD,
I am involved in variant configuration. I had a little confusion, for which i had searched the forum but dint find any relevant topic.
While creating configuration profile with CU41 of a configurable material we need to enter 'profile name' . We can enter many profile names for a single configuration profile. I am confused over it that what exactly is the need for having many profile names for a single configuration profile.
What i can infer is that with many profile names being provided in the configuration profile the single configurable material material can be used with many names in different scenarios.
Please do correct me if i am wrong . If at all i m true then also please provide me some more information related to it.
Thanks in advance for the solution.

Acrobat 9 crash running on terminalserver 2008 with roaming profiles
Adobe Reader 9.0 crash every time you try to open a pdf file on a terminalserver 2008, with users having roamin profiles.
If you install version 8.12 it works.
The problem is that we have a Acrobat 9.0 Destiller that we need to have running on this terminalserver, and after installing this, adobe reader 8.12 is not the default progra for opening pdf files.
What to do?
Thanks Finn!Bill@VT wrote:

I have tried that. I cleared everything in the TEMP folder, restarted
XP couple times and ran Norton WinDoctor. Acrobat 9 still crashed all
day especially if I tried to work on more than one PDF at the same time.
Usually when Dr. Watson pops out, that means there is something wrong
with the physical memory, doesn't it?
