Import a Calendar into Apple Calendar

I downloaded a calendar in "ics" format from my school district website. How do I import that calendar into my calendar app on my iPhone?

It looks like you will want to add the calendar directly from the server rather than downloading it first.

Subscribe to a calendar. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then tap Add Account. Tap Other, then tap Add Subscribed Calendar. Enter the server and filename of the .ics file to subscribe to. You can also subscribe to an iCalendar (.ics) calendar published on the web, by tapping a link to the calendar.

Import Text Files Into Apple Notes?

Hello,
Is there a way for me to automate importing text files into Apple Notes? I can certainly do this manually via copy/paste, but have over 700 files to transfer.

Automator is Apple's simple way to do tasks like this, but Notes app doesn't have any actions for this so I assume you need to use Applescript to do this. Double check Automator - I am on 10.9 & maybe 10.10 added support for Notes in Automator? Enter 'Note' in the search field to see if Automator can make new Notes.

See the "Create New Stylized Note" script <- click script icon to download it, copy & paste seems to fail because of how the browser displays characters.
You would need to adapt that script to import from the text files.
I'm not sure you really want to do that anyway - Notes app has such poor support that putting serious data into it looks like a mistake - how difficult will it be to export data when Apple eventually abandon it? It seems like a toy app to me for new iPhone users, it;s unclear if it will ever be able to compete with other options. There are third party apps to export from Notes.app, but why rely on third parties? A notes app should allow you to import & export your data!

It will handle notes as text files if you desire, so you can store them in Dropbox if you want. You can also set it to sync to Simplenote on iOS.

If you need images within notes or text styling you could use Evernote or one of the many other notes apps.
Sorry to sound so negative on Notes.app, it's OK but I don't think its the best place to put over 700 notes.

Trying to import Entourage Emails into Apple Mail

I recently purchased a new Mac (Mountain Lion) and am trying to import the emails from my old Mac. I was previously using Entourage but I want to import them into Apple Mail.
My old Mac will not restart but I have a copy on time machine. I think I have located the correct folder (and have copied it to my desktop):
My User Name/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004 Identities/Main Identity/Database
However, when I click on the Import Mailboxes option in Apple Mail, it only gives me the following options:
Apple Mail, Netscape/Mozilla, Thunderbird, Eudora, Files in mbox format.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to proceed?

One method which is manual is as follows.
With the Apple Address Book and Entourage address book launched and both positioned so each is partially visible, select the Address Book "All" Group.
Select a contact in the Entourage address book and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Select All to select/highlight all Entourage contacts.
Click and drag all selected/highlighted contacts to the Address Book Name column for the "All" Group and release.
After selecting all Entourage contacts, you can also try Edit > Copy.
Select the Name column for the Address Book "All" Group and at the Address Book menu bar, go to Edit and select Paste.

Importing home videos into Apple TV

I am trying to import my home videos into Apple TV. I have created a video consisting of many clips which are edited together into a coherent whole. This has been saved as an iMovie event. When I try to export this event through Quicktime, all I see are individual clips for import. Where do I find the whole editing video?

Try using the Share > iTunes... menu item in iMovie, then sync the movie to Apple TV from iTunes. This is the easiest way of getting an iMovie project onto Apple TV. Is this what you've been doing?

Can't import Entourage mail into Apple Mail

I'm using Apple Mail 2.1, which appears to be the latest version. I'm attempting to import my email from Entourage 11.2.5 (for OS X). Instead of looking for Entourage, however, Mail opens my old System 9 applications folder and asks, "Where is 12?" Pointing to Entourage just gets the message, "Unable to locate Entourage mailboxes to import." Is Mail broken or is my copy of mail broken?

Last I knew, Eudora ran fine under 10.5.8

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

I have been using Thunderbird as an email client, but recently realized Apple Mail is a really good alternative and would like to change. However, I would like to preserve my existing Thunderbird email history and folder structure in Apple Mail. Apple Mail includes an import Mailboxes process, but when I try, I cannot locate the files I want to import from Thunderbird. They appear to be hidden. I haven't been able to determine if OS 10 hides files and how to make them visible.

All of your TBird mail files are located in ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/XXX.default. The library folder is hidden in Mountain Lion by default. To make it visible open the terminal app in your utilities folder and type "chflags nohidden ~/Library" without the quotes.

This will allow you to sync calendars back and forth between your iPad and Google.
However you cannot import already existing calendars on iPad into Google from the iPad itself.
You would need to:
Sync your iPad with a computer
And then use the computer to import your calendar to Google: http://support.google.com/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=37118
If you are using a Mac I can tell you how to sync the calendars to the computer and then put them on google.

Can't import ical dates into iphoto calendar

Hi all,
I'm trying to make an iphoto calendar for a friend and I'm running into a frustrating problelm. My friend emailed me an ical birthday calendar which he would like to have included in the iphoto calendar. I imported the ical calendar into my own ical as a new calendar. I have created my calendar in iphoto but I cannot import these dates into it. When I go to settings and click the calendar tab I am given the option of which ical calendars I would like to import to my calendar. I see two, one is my own normal calendar and the other is the birthday calendar sent to me by my friend. I check the birthday calendar and then click ok and ical appears to be importing the dates but when I look at my calendar the dates have not imported. If I try importing my normal calendar I have no problem. What's going on here??? Please help I am getting really frustrated.

There are many video formats. iPhoto can't read all of them; in fact, it can't read most of them. Here's something that can:

Import my iCal into Google Calendar

The new Google software makes it easy to copy the Google Calendar into iCal but when I try to import my iCalendar into Google Calendar, I have to select a calendar. I have no idea which of the files in /Library/Calendars to select. How do I tell?

You may want to import all of them. There is a different calendar folder for each group that you have in iCal (like work, home, etc). If you don't want to import all, go to /Library/Calendars and inside each .calendar folder is an events folder with .ics files inside. Open any of these files and it will start iCal and take you to the event so you can find out which group it's in.

Daniel, You missed the point. Read the whole post and you'll see that boxhead was acknowledging the notes to which you refer in iCal, all boxhead was saying was that notes in Entourage does not equal notes in iCal.

If I import a calendar will it re-invite attendees

I've been migrating calendars from system to system. When I import a calendar file (.ics) into Calendar.app, will it trigger invitations to be sent again to attendees of upcoming events? I'd like to prevent people from being emailed/notified while I perform further calendar maintenance.
Does anyone know?

or, alternatively, will Apple not really care and just do it themselves?
