Import a project file

My son has sent me iMovie project files he created with pictures of my grandaughter. I cannot seem to be able to import them into iMovie on my computer so I can watch and burn them.
Is this import possible?

Probably not, but maybe.
An iMovie Project has the extension .rcproject. You can see it in iMovie by using the Finder to drag it into the Movies/iMovie Projects folder. Then start up iMovie.
Normally, a project is just a small text file in hexadecimal. It contains the instructions for creating the movie. The raw video clips used in the movie are stored in the Movies/iMovie Events folder. These are typically too large to send via email.  Photos are typically stored in iPhoto.  When you make a movie in iMovie, you create a file that has the paths and in and out points of the video clips you use, the paths to the photos that you used, instructions for transitions, titles, etc. and paths to any music that you used.
So most likely, your son sent you the instructions, but not the underlying photos to make the movie. If this is the case, when you open the project in iMovie, you will see yellow warning triangles that indicate missing media.
If your son used the Share Menu to create a finished version of the movie, it is possible that that would also be stored in the project package. This would also be true if he ran the File/Finalize Project Command.
You  can right-click your rcproject file in the Finder and choose Show Package Contents. Open the movies folder inside the package. If there are any completed movies in there, you could use them in iDVD. Or you could watch them in Quicktime Player.
If this answer leads to more questions, let me know.

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when I import CS6 project files

I recently upgraded to CC, but every time I try to import my project file from Premiere Pro CS6 into Premiere Pro CC it crashes, or stops working if you like.
This is very irritating as I wanted to make use of the SpeedGrade workflow in the CC packaged between Premiere Pro CC.
My project file is no longer than 1 minute, however is does contain After Effects CS6 compositions, could this possible cause the crash? I have tried to import without these but it still stops working for some reasons.
Also I have no idea where to find the error log for crashes on Adobe software.

I have experienced similar crashes and timeline playback failure when importing a CS6 project into CC or CC 2014. I had to rebuild two projects by hand before I realized it was a bug in CC converting the CS6 project files to CC project files. I don't think this has been addressed yet, but I have had better luck starting projects from scratch in CC, not cross-converting a CS6 project. Although I'm still experiencing issues with multicam projects in CC 2014.
Curious to hear others chime in on this.

    Hi
    i have seen the thread
my error msg is as follows:
Error occurred when importing from Microsoft Project
    Message no. DPR_UI_BSP116
    Diagnosis
When a project is imported from Microsoft Project, the system generates an XML string during internal processing. A project is then created in cProjects from this string.
The XML string contains errors because the values from Microsoft Project were transferred without verification.
    Procedure for System Administration
Notify SAP or call the cProjects application with the "DebugMode=X" query string and carry out the import again.
The XML string that was generated temporarily is then validated against the cProjects XML schema. The error message from the XML parser is then displayed in the popup.
    please give inputs on this...

  • File Corrupted? Import Backup Project file?

I have a project in Final Cut X, and both the event and the project folders are on an external HD.
My mac crashed while working in Final Cut.   WHen I reopen final cut, the current Project doesn not appear in the library.
(The matching event is there in the EVent Library.)
When I go to Finder, I can find the correct final cut project file.  It doesn't open, saying it might be corrupt.  There is a  BACKUP folder, and several of those backups seem to work.... Sort of.
They open the correct video in the preview screen.  It plays correctly.   But.... I cannot export or make changes as there still is no "project" in the project library.
How can I import this "backup" file into Final Cut X so that I can work on it, export it, etc?
(And in a related note, the crashing is sudden and weird and only happens in FInal Cut X.  It just goes black, and then a message appears saying something like, "Your computer shutdown because of a problem..."  )
    MacBook Pro.  8GB ram.
    Can you help?
    Brad in Denver.
PS.   I'm freaking out.  Such a headache..on a deadline and lost 5 or 6 hours of work.
PPS.  THe import function doesn't seem to work for project files.  (greyed out.)
    Fingers crossed!!  : )

Something bad has been done in your project library. There should not a waveform caceh folder in there. Some of the other folders look every strange. Have you been moving things arounds inside the projects folder or into or out of the projects folder at the Finder level?
The project appears to be called Backups. Where was that located? I don't understand how a project would appear in the viewer and not be selected in the project library, while nothing appears in inspector.

  • Importing MS Project files into P6v7

As a new user to P6v7, I was attempting to import MS project 2007 files into P6. The file types I have are .MPP type files (converted from 2003 version). The P6 import function dropdown only lists .MPX file types to import from MS Project. I am unable to select any of my existing files to import. Any one have ideas how to change this import setting for P6v7 ?
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
using MPP-files you need to install a Project 2003 (as I remember right with SP3) and then the P6 Client. Then you will get the option to import also mpp-files.

  • How to import one project file into another project file

In previous versions I could take an 8 track project file and drag it into another project.  This doesn't work in version 10.  I am playing multi track stems for worship.  I create each song as it's own file then drag them together to create a set.  I don't mix down since I want to be able to add or subtract an instrument based on who may or may not be avaiable that day.  Has this feature been taken out of Version 10?  Can you do this in either Logic or Mainstage?

  • Primavera import from MS Project file having .mpp extension

How can you import MS project file with .mpp extension to primavera p6v7. In primavera import options unseer Mocrosoft project it shows only .MPX and .XLM extensions.

You need MS Project installed on this same PC as P6.
Alternatively there was an old P3.1 utility that would convert .mpp to .mpx files.
See: "How to Convert MPP to MPX when Importing Microsoft Project Data into P3 [ID 892819.1]" in the Oracle KB for a download link.

  • Importing a Premiere Pro Project file in AE

    Hi,
I've just finish editing a long feature with Premiere Pro that I've broken down into 10 project files to allow Premiere not to have the memory crash.
Now I'd like to import in AE the project file to be able to do image stabilization on different shot and sky replacement.
    My questions are:
    a) If I import the project files, can I make modifications in AE (like color correction, stabilization, sky replacement,...) then save the project so that it can still be opened in Premiere
    b) Can I recombined my whole feature into one project in AE or the memory won't handle it as Premiere's memory didn't ?
    Thank you.

    > If I import the project files, can I make modifications in

You can save a Premiere Pro project from After Effects. See
"Export an After Effects project to Adobe Premiere Pro".
Note that there are several other ways of moving data between After Effects and Premiere Pro, including copy & paste and Dynamic Link. See
"Working with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects".
    > Can I recombined my whole feature into one project in AE

The size of the project doesn't tend to be a problem for After Effects. (Frame size, occasionally; image buffer size, occasionally; but not project size.)

  • Project files creating dup assets (but not imported via scan)

I've looked at these two threads: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9147105#9147105
    and
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9096958&#9096958
which sort of address my question.
I do not import media via scan. I am attempting to import project files with associated media. I import a project file and it imports the media assets as well. Here's the problem. When I then go and import another project file with many of the same assets, FCSvr creates duplicate assets, but only if I import the second project file soon after the first. I waited a week and tried it, and no duplicate assets were created. I have setup periodic scans on my Library Device which is an EIP device and which is where I'm sending the files that get imported. The scans are setup to run every 10 mins or so but don't seem to have an effect. So why does this work if I wait more than a day or so and can I manually kick off the scan or whatever process I need to setup so that I avoid getting duplicate assets.
Again, I don't want to originally import the media via scan of an EIP device b/c I want to do set some metadata fields on multiple assets but not all assets in the project.
I'm really just curious what process it is that tells FCSvr that these assets already exist in the db and filesystem and how I can manually kick it off.
    Any enlightenment would be great.
    Thanks.
    H.

You probably have a full scan running overnight, which is what is catching all the media. The add only scan you have running every 10 minutes only get new media that is written to the EIP device.
If that doesn't seem to address your question, then try rephrasing it. It's difficult to understand from your explanation what you have running where, and what you're uploading where.

  • Importing existing project to Project Online

Hello, my company recently purchased Project Online to add to our existing Office 365 environment.
From the Project Web App home page, I would like to use the Create or Import projects tile to add an existing .mpp project file that I have uploaded to my SkyDrive to Project Online, and manage this project from the Project Web app.
However, I cannot figure out how to do this or if it is even possible. The tile itself says "Create new or import from Sharepoint sites and project files.".  To import an existing project you're then referred to this site: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-server-help/more-ways-to-create-or-import-projects-HA102923810.aspx.
On that site the only listed ways of importing an existing project are to import a Sharepoint task list (not what I want) or by connecting your local Project Pro to Project Online and publishing the project.
Importing or uploading an existing project file directly to Project Online would seem to be a fundamental basic usage of Project Online. Do I really need to also purchase Project Professional in order to import existing project files to Project Online?
    Thanks

Project Online cannot read mpp files, hence the reason for requiring Project Professional 2013 if you want to import these into Project Online - even if you only want to manage them via Project Web App from then on.
If you've not got Project 2013 Pro, you could cut and paste the existing task list from Project into a SharePoint list, and create the project from there.
The way forward will depend on the complexity of your schedules, remember that PWA does not have all of the capability of MS Project 2013

  • In Premiere Elements 13 can I link project files?

Can .prml file be compiled into a movie?

    Koollkid
I am assuming that there is a typing error in your introductory details when you wrote
Can .prml file be compiled into a movie?
Are you referring to the Premiere Elements project file which has a .prel file extension. If not, what kind of file is
a .prml file? Where is it coming from?
Generalization for now, pending your clarification on what you seek and assuming that .prml = .prel.....
    1. When you import source files into a project, the way out is via export - Premiere Elements 13 Publish+Share/ and then
the choices that you see which can offer you burn to disc as well as export to file opportunities.
    2. You cannot import a project file into another project file. If you want to put the content of project 1 into project 2, you
    have at least two choices
    a. Export the Timeline content from project 1 to file that is compatible with the settings of project 2, and then import that
    file into project 2
    b. If you are working on a Windows computer, use ClipMate in conjunction with Premiere Elements for a copy/paste
insert between projects (I have not tried this yet in version 13; it has worked in several earlier versions).
So, basically this all resolves to
    a. What is your source media?
    b. What are your requirements for exporting the Timeline content for you and other to see?
We will be watching for your follow up with clarification.
    Thank you.

  • Error importing old project into Premiere Elements 11

Trying to import old project backup - that I made a couple of years ago.  When importing the Project file, I get the error
"The selected file cannot be linked because it's type (video) does not match the original files type (audio and video)."
I try and select the file, but it then gives the error "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (audio and video) does not match the original file's type (video).
If I skip the ones that give me the error, I get an incomplete edit - with lots of bits missing.
HELP!!!  I need to sort this asap......for a client.
    Thanks

    filippinno
Here is my plan, either a start to better or a dud. We are going to start small to get a foothold in this.
My major puzzlement is you telling me that you are replacing video with video and getting the message
The selected file cannot be linked because its type (audio and video) does not match the original file's type (video)
.The only time I have ever seen that message is when someone is trying to replace still with video or video with still.
At this moment, where are the source media that went into the original Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project? Let us say, all in Documents in a folder named Special - all have their original names. Given that you are 100% that they are the ones that went into this project...the type (video or still) and file name and file extension.
I am not sure if it matters for this test whether or not you are using Premiere Elements 11 or 9.0/9.0.1, I just want to find out what is going on with your source media.
    (a) Open the project using Skip All if you are hit with a bunch of "Where is....?" messages which I assume you will be.
    (b) Go to the Timeline, pick a file with the colorful Media Offline display, write down the file name from its title band.
Right click that file on the Timeline and select Find in Media.
From Organize Media, delete the Media Offline thumbnail that was pointed out to you clicking Reveal in Media.
Go back to the Timeline and this same file, right click it and this time select Reveal in Project. That should take you to Project. Delete the file there that Reveal in Project points you to. That will also delete is counterpart on the Timeline. All traces of that particular Media Offline file are now gone in the project.
In that project, go to Get Media/Files and Folders and browse to and select the original file (with the exact same file name and kind that you just deleted from the project) that you have saved back in that Special Folder in Documents.
Drag that file from Organize Media or Project to the Timeline in the space made available by your deletion of it as an Media Offline thumbnail.
Does that work to replace that particular file. Is it the file that you had there originally? Keep in mind that we are identifying this file by name in each step and need a match of file name from start to end.
If this works for one, then we can plan around this basic finding. And, if this works we may revert back to Replace Footage. But, let us see what happens here first.
What is your estimate of how many of these Media Offline displays are there to be dealt with? How many of the media are in place on that Timeline and are no problem?
    Looking forward to the results.
    Thanks.

  • What is the safest way to deflate a bloated project file in Premiere?

What is the safest way to deflate a bloated file? I am having difficulty opening my Premiere project file because it is over 2 gigs. I have recently updated my entire CS6 collection, so from what I understand the bloated issue is fixed, but I still can't open my project. What is the best way to deal with this issue? Should I open the file in a text editor and erase duplicate code? Or should I open a new project and import the project file? What causes files to bloat?

I've found Acrobat Pro's document compare feature very useful for some jobs, and irritating for others.  One of its modes amounts to light-tabling the two documents, but I usually want a text compare, most recently of a 450-pp. book, where the 250-pp. max. meant I had to do it in two chunks.  Acrobat 9 seems happier with more RAM: I learned not to approach the 250-pp. max on my Vista64 machine with 8 GB, but the package seems more reliable on my Win7 machine with 16 GB.  It often generates quite a few false positives, which take getting used to.  Versions 7 and 8, if I recall correctly, would place the pages side-by-side, which I prefer; version 9 can still be made to do this, I'm note sure about X.
