Import a raid 5 software arry from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008

How can I move a Windows server software raid to another server.
MOBO died on file server.   Backup failed.
Trying to move the three SATA drives to another server (Win 2008) and import the 2003 software Raid 5 array.
Their backups failed and current docs are not available.

Hi,
It is highly recommended that you move all disks containing the RAID 5 volume together, because moving a partial RAID 5 set impacts performance unless you add another disk to the set later on.

  • Migrating dns from windows 2003 to windows 2008 on workgroup env

Hi, We are planning to migrate primary dns server from win 2003 to win 2008. Both the old and new servers will be in work group. I have found few articles on how to proceed.
    1. Configure new dns server 2008 R2 box as a secondary zone and doing a zone transfer for froward & reverse lookups  from the primary Server 2003 machine. Then changing the name and IP of the Server 2008 R2 machine  to
what the Server 2003 box was (after pulling the Server 2003 box off the network) as well as setting the 2008 R2 box as the primary. Neither of the servers will be connected to a domain at any point during or after this process.
    2. Copy registry keys and dns files from old to new server
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DNS Server\Zones
Right click on the “Zones” node and choose “Export“. Save the export as a .reg file (e.g. DNS.reg).
Copy the DNS.reg file to the destination server and “Merge“.
    Copy the DNS files
Copy the contents of the %SystemRoot%\System32\DNS folder from the source machine to the same folder on the destination machine. I received an permissions error while trying to transfer the “Samples” folder. It is not necessary to transfer the samples.
    Set the DNS Load method
Using the Administrative Tools -> DNS MMC snap-in, on the “Advanced” tab, set the “Load zone data on startup:” to “From registry“. This tells the DNS server to load all zone data from the registry.
Then change the ip address and hostname of the new server to match that of the old ones and start dns service.
I was wondering which method would be easy and hassle free as I have like 23 zones to transfer.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Lakshmi Soma

I would go with the first method as I always try to avoid making registry changes which might result in strange behaviors.

    Hello,
Am wondering how can we migrate NON DC windows 2003/2003r2 to windows 2008/2008r2 ?
Below links explains how to do migration or prerequisites but is anyone already done this project?

Also i have found another blog about about migration windows 2003 to windows 2008, but ""IS IT ONLY FOR DC or APPLIES TO NON DC AS WELL""?

    regards,
    Dharanesh,

    Hello,
if the installed software is checked to work with the new OS version you can use the installation disk from the new OS version, if the architecture(32bit or 64bit could be ONLY upgraded to the same) is the same, and do an in place upgrade.
Also keep in mind that you have to check for drivers BEFORE starting.

  • Windows 2003 and windows 7 access compability

    Hi,
I am now using IBM server with windows 2003 32 bit operating system and clients are windows xp and windows 7. I want to know that if I convert all clients to windows 7. Is there any connectivity/accessing issues to server.
Is there any compability / accessing issues within windows 2003 and windows 7?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
Windows Server 2003 is going out of support 2015.
Windows 7 works together with it without  problems.
If this is a domain you have to be aware that GPO settings for Windows 7 should be configured from a Windows 7 machine with RSAT installed, otherwise lot of settings are not available within Windows Server 2003.
Also you have to think about server stored profiles, if used, as the .V2 profiles are used with Windows 7 and the older profiles will not work for users logging on to the Windows 7 machines.
Maybe there is more to consider but therefore the information you have provided is too less.

  • Problem with upgrade Windows 2003 to Windows 2008

    Hi,
I have problem with upgrade Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2
When I run installer it check compatibility drivers and programs after that appear message that I need to uninstall  "adaptec storage manager" but I already remove this driver from the system and registry.
Any ideas to solve this problem?
My server it's IBM System x3500
    Regards

Not sure if this issue was solved or no longer relevant, but I had the same issue with the same IBM x3500 server type.
Based on the SETUPACT.LOG output from the Server 2003 to 2008 upgrade compatibility check, the problem was that the driver AACMGT.SYS is unsigned, and hence not acceptable for running in Windows Server 2008.
AACMGT.SYS is a part of IBM ServeRAID but unfortunately, even the latest versions 9.3 to not seem to update or replace this file. It's also possible this file is a residue of an earlier, deprecated version of ServeRAID, I don't know.
In the end, to get passed the Upgrade check hard stop, I did this, though I'm not sure if all steps are needed:
    0. Make sure you have a system backup in case you break something doing this steps. If you do break your system and cannot recover from backups, it's not my fault!
    1. Go into Device Manager --> Disks and check the Driver properties for the disks on your system. You might have AACMGT.SYS listed for some/all disks and also listed as unsigned.
    2. Uninstall IBM ServeRAID from the system, just in case
    3. Do into Device Manager and go under Disks, and manually Uninstall all the disks in the list including "AdaptecArray SCSI Disk" and some other secondary. I did not reboot right away.
    4. Go to console, go into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS, and rename AACMGT.SYS to something else.
    5. Reboot the system and hope it still boots. Go into Device Manager -> Disks and make sure that AACMGT.SYS is no longer listed.
    6. Run the 2003 to 2008 Upgrade process again. The Compatibility checker should no longer flag "Adaptec Storage Manager" as a blocker.

  • Problems Migrating from VS 2003 and CR 2008 to VS 2008

I am in process of upgrading from VS 2003 to VS 2008.   At same time u2013 moving from Windows Xp to Windows 7.    I was using CR 2008 on the XP and also installed it on Win 7.   Now seems I have no support or SDK for VS 2008.   Even if I add a new Cr object u2013 the screen us blank.
Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.
What do I need to do to get this to work u2013 and be able to safely distribute the resulting project?
Would upgrading to SAP CR 2011 work coupled with downloading the SDK for VS 2010?  Or Reinstalling VS 2008?
    Thank you
    JimH

    Hi Jim,
CR for VS 2010 will not work in VS 2008 and CR 2011 does not have an SDK install.
If you have Installed CR 2008 before VS 2008 it won't be integrated into VS. Do a repair install of VS 2008 and that should fix VS, assuming CR 2008 is installed and it's not a CR 2008 Basic, must be higher to get the SDK to install and work. Go into Add/Remove Programs and select CR 2008 and change, use the Custom Option and you should see the option to add .NET. Sorry I don't recall the exact wordage, it's been a while since I installed it.
And be sure to get the latest Service Packs for VS and CR 2008 SP 4. You can get them form the [download page|https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap%28bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==%29/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm]
Then check your references, they should be 12.x.x.xxxx and remove the 9.x from your project first if they are there still also. VS usually asks if you want to upgrade so I suspect a repair on CR and then possibly a repair in VS 2008 should fix the problem.
Download page also has the Redist Packages to deploy your app and CR runtime also.

  • Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server

    Dear All,
Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server.
I tried it in windows 2003 server but i couldn't. Atlease tell me wheather it support windows 2000 adv. server. This is my first dba job.
Under Doc ID: 66397.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Not Support Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition.
Under Doc ID: 77627.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2000 Support.
    Please help me out urgently.

Since you have access to Metalink, you could be looking at the Certify tab to find this information. But, the answer is that 8.1.6 is no longer supported by Oracle. However, you should be able to install it on Win 2000 advanced server. You just can't get any support for it.
The earliest version of db supported on Win 2003 was either 9.0 or 9.2, but 9.0 is desupported now as well.

  • Issues with Shell32.dll, NTDLL.DLL and Migration from Windows 2003 to Windows 2012

    Hello all,
I am new to ThinApp and working as a consultant to help a company migrate older Windows 2003 software to Windows 2012.  They have purchased ThinApp 5.0.4.5 so that is what we will be using.
We have created a clean 2003 VM and did a pre-scan
We loaded the application and configured it  and then did a capture.
We then tested the capture the 2003 VM and it works
We then loaded the capture on a Clean 2003 VM and it works
We then loaded onto a 2012 VM and when running the app from a command window get an error  -missing import shell32.dll:StrCpyNW
If we run the capture in Emulation Mode on 2012 VM, we do not get the Shell32.dll error but instead the cmd fails with a Fault Module Name  - NTDLL.DLL error
I am sure I am just missing the correct location to identify or configure the capture - but do not have the experience to know where yet.  (Taking training next week).
Until then, is there any suggestions which I can try?
Thanks for your time in advance,
    Vince

Tried and done that.  The main issue while configuring the printer from the printer Web Interface is that there is no access to the Digital Sending section due to a problem with the "Sun Java plug in"  I think the code mentions 1.31. or similar.
We downloaded the java plug in and installed it.  No progress.
We reset the printer to defaults and reconfigured it .. It sees the smtp gateway and access it but fails sending email with scanned documents..
We have tried in very different ways.  We connected the printer to another domain SBS server 2003 and it works beautifully.  So, I have no idea on what is the problem. We created a firewall exception for ports 390. 1783 from the SBS to the Printer
    and still no go..
We have tried four different accounts and nothing.  Same results as stated originally.
    Any other suggestions??

  • "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation" when rpc from server 2003 to Windows 7

I am having problems where all my Windows 2003 servers cannot rpc to 2 of my Windows 7 workstations, error message is "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation".
All the machines are in workgroup environment.
    Windows 7 workstations: desk1, desk2, desk3, desk4, desk5, desk6
    Windows 2003 servers: server1, server2, server3, server4, server5
    Windows 2008 server: server6
From any Windows 7 workstation I can rpc to any other machines,
    \\desk1\d$, no problem
From any Windows 2003 server I can rpc to all the machines exception desk4 and desk5, they give the "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation". However, desk4 and desk5 can rpc to any other machines (including the Windows 2003
    servers), no problem
From Windows 2008 rpc to desk4 and desk5 also no problem.
I also have no problem rpc between any of the Windows 2003 servers,
    \\server2\d$ from server3, no problem.
I turned off the firewall at desk5 and desk4, just to try, but didn't help, same problem. This show firewall is not the cause of the problem.
Desk4 and Desk5 used to run Windows 2012 for 1 year and recently I downgraded them Windows 7 Professional x64. When they were running as Windows 2012, those Windows 2003 servers have no problem rpc to desk5 and desk4.
The issue is thus lying between desk4 and desk5 with Windows 2003 only\
    Any suggestions?

  • Migration from SBS 2003 to Server 2008

Couple things. First, I wouldn't bother with 2008 at this point.  Here's a pretty handy guide for 2012R2.

Second, I'd switch them over to hosted Exchange.
Did you spec your server already?

Hi guys,Very new to dealing with servers too much so please excuse any lack of info/dumb questions!I have been tasked to do a server migration for a small business. The details I know thus far (more to follow soon) are:There is currently only one server. It is running SBS 2003. It functions as a domain controller, and provides AD, DNS, exchange, DHCP and file sharing services. It is a physical server (Dell I believe). They want to move to another physical server running Windows Server 2008.There are around 15 users/terminals.There is a VLAN set up, not sure how yet. The VLAN needs to 'have a strong connection because heavy architect software needs to be used'Here is the plan of action I have so far:Ensure licenses for win server and exchange are bought.Install OS on new server, install all updates, service packs etc.Configure AD...

  • Essbase 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server: Windows Virtual cache/ Paging File ?

    Hi,
the speed of our nightly calculations seems to differ from day to day between 1 and 2 hours
I am wondering, what the correct setting for the windows paging file is ?
We use Windows 2003 64 Bit Server with 16 GB RAM
We run 1 Essbase application with 80 GB pag files with 4 GB Data Cache Setting and 1 GB Indexcache Setting in EAS console - on that server is actually nothing else running in production mode (just a few essbase-test application, usually offline)
what is the recommended setting on the windows level in the windows system properties for memory usage ?
    We have:
    Memory Usage: Adjust for best performance of "Programs" ;
Virtual Memory/Paging file on C-Drive: Custom Size, initial Size: 10 GB, maximum size 16 GB
when system was handed over from Oracle, we had 4 GB virtual memory - however in essbase manual, you read that the recommended value should be 3-5 times the physicial ram -
for me, the cache-bevahiour is strange anyway: if I watch taskmanager, I see in the middle of our 1 hour calculation the memory usage of Esssvr.exe Service using 7 GB of RAM, then the 16 GB RAM are used up at some point (paging file is 9 GB )- then suddenly nearly all the RAM get's cleared and ESSSVR.exe memory consumption goes down to 0 and from 0 increasing again-
looks to me, as all the cache for essbase get's deleted in the miiddle of the calculation, because RAM used up for paging files ?
Can anybody explain or give a clear directions, what to check ?
our application operates normally (no abnormal termination, no generation of *.xcp files)
(Essbase is installed on the 500 GB D-Drive)

    Hi John,
thanks for the helpful link - the long discussion reminded me again, that pure cores and cache is not all, what makes up a good essbase application -
I will test with calcparallel 6 (in comparison to 4) on our 64bit environment - just to see if I can achieve a 10, 20 or 30% improvement...
In addition, I must admit, that 50% of our 1-2 hour calculation is calculated in serial/ not parallel... so I expect an additional 5 to 10 min improvement, not more.
    Thank you for now

    Hi,
Most probably these kind of errors pop up if the drivers are not compatible. Do you find any .dmp files under folder C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources ? If so

    Thank you

There are ways of doing in-place upgrades (see Note 1494740 - SAP system migration from Windows 2003 to 2008 (R2) 64-bit) but since the hardware drivers changed from 2003 to 2008 you may have a hard time getting the system back up after you do an in-place upgrade.
I would do a homogeneous system copy, that's the safest way.

  • In-place "member server" upgrade Windows 2003 to Windows 2008

    Hi All
My scenario is to do an inplace upgrade from Windows Server Standard 2003 32bit to 2008 Standard 32bit. This server is a "member server" no AD/DC. Are there any particualr pre configuration i need to do to the server? There is
alot of info. with upgrading a DC but not for a "member server".
    Thank you for your time!

  • Upgrade window 2003 to Window 2008 R2 approach (Moss 2007)

I have moss 2007 running window 2003 32 bit (1wfe and 1sql server). There quite a few customization that i dont know about. I need to move it to Window 2008 R2 or higher. Anyone have done this? I need a good approach with less risk and impact. I'll build
a new server in window 2008 R2 so it is not an in-place upgrade. I have Moss 2007 SP2, that will work on Window 2008 R2?

    - make sure any/all customizations support 64-bit (for SP2007, this is especially true for iFilters, though occasionally WSP's as well)
    - install 64-bit onto new server
    - add to existing farm -Do you mean adding this using config wizzard?
    - move all services from old server to new server - Do this in central admin? Can i just turn on on new server and leave it still on on the old server?
    - redirect DNS
    - disconnect old server from farm -  Do you mean adding
    this using config wizzard?
    - disconnect old server from domain
    - turn off old server
    - celebrate
