Import and counting

Hi,
click on the "Import" sign in the toolbar, choose a folder with pictures from your hard drive. You see your pictures and everyone of them ist selected by a checkbox. Imagine, you would like to import only one of them and push the button "Deselect all" What do you get? No, not what you'd expect! All pictures save one, usually the last one, are deselected. The message down right reads "Import 2 pictures". Okay, now you deselect the last one and select the one, you want to import. No message in the lower right. You select another additional one - whoopie -"Import 2 pictures".
In other words: AA3 can't count down to 1 (one) and you are forced to import at least 2 pictures. Does anyone encounter the same problem. If so, I think this should immediately be fixed

I have an additional hint that it might be a localization thing. I did a "deep system cleanup" using IceClean (just for the fun of it, not because of Aperture). I probably should not have done that because I now have a strange mix of German and English names of Finder folders (like "Desktop" instead of "Schreibtisch" and a few more; the menu is still in German). Strangely enough, selecting and deselecting on import in Aperture suddenly works like a charm. Now if someone could tell me what file contained the German names of the folders...

Well, one should not rush to conclusions. A few minutes later: It maybe has nothing to do with that, it seems that it works fine if I select an existing folder, so that a new project would be created. It shows that strange behavior if I select an existing project to add to.

Cycle Counts, import and use

I see that when importing to the oItems destination via DTW, it is possible to bring in Cycle Count info. There is no sample or template CycleCount sheet, so what I know I gleaned just from looking at the mappable fields in DTW.
Can anyone give me some tips about importing and using Cycle Counts? I confess I find updating any destination via DTW to be a real chore, frequently more work that it is worth.
In this instance I already have items and warehouses and prices and quantities on hand. All I would want to do is import Cycle Count fields. So in DTW would this be considered an update (of existing items) or an import (just of cycle counts)? Since I don't want to change anything for the items, warehouses, or prices, what would be the least amount of data I'd have to show for the already ready loaded areas to get the cycle counts in?

By Cycle Counts If you talking about importing prices and quantities
You need to use DTW template StockTaking template inside folder oStockTaking.
Here you will enter ItemCode WH and Quantity
the Prices will be imported using the ItemPrices template in the oItems folder as an Update with the Item main template.
then you will through the Inventory > Inventory Trans > Initial Quantity Reconcile the Quantities imported

I'm doing a upgrade from 9i to 11g and i am using native imp/exp to migrate those data.. For my 1st round of testing, I have done the following:
1) Full DB Export from 9i. exp system/<pwd>@db FULL=Y FILE=export.dmp log=export.log
Encountered warning "EXP-00091: Exporting questionable statistics." (On hindsight, I know that I need to set the characterset as per my server before exporting) Nevertheless, I proceeded on with this 8.4GB dmp file that has the warning "EXP-00091: Exporting questionable statistics." The characterset in 9i is US7ASCII. My export took 1 hour, my 9i is actually only a small 26GB.
2) Full import to 11g. My 11g is a newly created DB with characterset WE8MSWIN1252. I know that schemas and objects will be automatically created in 11g.
3) However, the problem I face is that this importing of data has been running for the past 4 hours and counting and it is still not done.
My question is:
Is it because of the difference in the characterset in the dmp file and 11g that is causing this importing to be slow? Could it be that characterset conversion is causing high overhead?
OR
Is it because I exported all the indexes from 9i and now during importing, it is taking a long time to create those indexes in 11g? Should I have export full but set index=F and create a index creation script from 9i and run it in 11g, so as to save time?
OR
Both of the above is causing the importing to keep on running? Or ??

Hi to all
All my tablespaces in oracle 9i database is on 4096 block_size... But I pre-created those same tablespaces in 11g and they are on 8192 block_size..
Am I right to say that it is the differences in block size that is slowing down this importing?
If so, how can I solve this problem? If I use "IGNORE=Y" in my import statement, will it help? Thanks..
I think i will follow my 9i db and create the tablespaces in 11g in 4096 block_size...

Reading a file, and counting how many e's there's in it!

Hello everyone!
Well, I'm trying to write a program that'll read a file and count the number of e's in there and print it out.
This is what the Index.txt file contains:

Validating CSV File BEFORE importing and moving using an SSIS package

I'm trying to come up with a process (I'm used to doing this kind of stuff in T-SQL) in SSIS to grab a collection of .csv files from a folder, validate them, then depending on if they pass validation, import them into my database and move them into an archive
folder. If the .csv does not pass validation, then it does not get imported, and instead gets placed into an error folder. The validation requirements is that the Column2 of my .csv contains a WKT text field and the file is considered valid if every record
can be successfully converted into a Geometry/Geography type field.

FOr that what you can do is dump the records to staging table and use STisValid function

finally take the count of failed ones and if cnt > 0 set boolean value as true/false. Then for true cases move data to final table and for false cases (invalid values), move it to error folder
So package will look like below
1. Data flow task to transfer data to staging
2. execute sql task to call a procedure which does validation on staging data and returns a bit result. Set it to SSIS variable using output variable from procedure
3. Connect to data flow task to do transfer from staging to destination. the precedence constraint option would be Expression And Constraint with expression as
@BooleanVariable == True
and constraint as OnSuccess
4. Connect to file system task to archive the file. the precedence constraint option would be Expression And Constraint with expression as
@BooleanVariable == False
and constraint as OnSuccess

Feature Request - Storyboard import and Audio Notations

Ability to import and associate sotryboards for scene breakdown. Would be nice to import various graphic formats or even audio notations about the scene to help convey thoughts during collaboration.
Nice preview release. Headed in the right direction.

there are some features that could be very usefull :
-Time code counter : would estimate the length of written part, and add this duration in a "counter." hh:mn:ss;fr"
of course in 25, 24,and 29fps and the option to set the initial TC.
-Exporting sound track with various synthesis voices, in the most common audio files .aiff .wav .mp3
-Exporting XML timelines to NLE systems ; it would allow the whole team to start working.
Motion graphic designers, music composers, sound editors, could better figure out what the film will be.
The xml file would have audio files associated. (ie voice over would help a 3D team to sync their animations)
-Perfect interoperability with MSWord and Excel
-a "colors/category" column, user-defined with a sign counter. Would allow to figure out how much "stock shot" / "CGI" / "Robert de Niro" / "underwater"
is required.
-all commands should be assignable to keys by the user (Final Cut Pro does that very well)
-avoid F1, F2... etc as more and more people use portable computers.
-User defined workspaces : something very light with no disturbing figures or menus for a fluid writing, and something more complete for reviewing periods with statistics, exports etc etc etc

Import and Copy Opening – One Task & One Prompt Set

Hi Experts,
We want to create one data manager package that contains both import from BW with UI and copy opening. We ran into some issues. Maybe you can help:
We created a new process chain that contains both tasks, and created a new DM package that has both scripts. Users only want to enter parameters such as entity and time one time for both tasks...
When I commented out the Copy opening prompts, relying on the prompts from the Import from BW, I receive an error. The message:

Thanks, isn't %SELECTION% passed to the process chain? I see that the process chain RUN LOGIC contains a field SELECTION. If the value is passed, then I have to change that too?
2) If we change the value to SELECTION2, then how does this variable capture the parameters for the dimensions? I am commenting out the prompt of the copy opening script keeping the first prompt below from the import from BW in order to capture the parameters for both scripts.

Is there a technology that can trace and count a link ?
For Example ,how can I trace links and calculate how many times have they been clicked in CNN News ?
Or how can I calculate which link is the top link clicked by people all over the world ? I need this .

First, there's no way to trace how many links are "clicked" world wide (maybe there's an ancient alien race which has the technology, but we haven't met them yet ). You can do that for single web sites though.
The following is very simplified because I think Google uses some complex algorithms to calculate the relevance/importance of certain pages and for example their appearance in the Google News, page rank, position in search queries etc:
Google spiders the web and checks how pages link to each other by scanning the content of the spidered webpage. For example the more external pages link to a certain news item are found, the higher is its relevance. The "credibility" of these external sites probably has also an impact on how Google calculates the "relevance" of a site. For example if the New York Times links to an article, this link "weights" more than a link from any other random web page. I also believe that news sites are spidered way more often and in shorter intervals than the rest of the web to make services like Google News possible.

I can get down as far as step 11 but it shows nothing about upper filters and when I type on "If the Upper Filters entry is missing follow these instructions" nothing happens
Do you mean you can't see the instructions on what to do if there is no UpperFilters entry?
If so, here's the relevant instructions for that step:
On the right side of the Registry Editor window, right-click the UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.
Right-click the empty white space within the right-hand portion of the Registry Editor window. From the shortcut menu, choose New > Multi-String Value.
Name this new value "UpperFilters" (without the quotes). Then, right-click the newly created UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.

What is the difference between import and merge?

When setting up my wife's new account on my son's MBP, I did not migrate all of her photos as they were in 2 or 3 separate iPhoto Libraries. I researched this forum and found the best way to merge all of her libraries is to buy iPLM. According to a post by Terence Devlin, if I don't use iPLM, thumbnails, previous editing, keywords, etc., will not be imported. OK, but if we only want the originals photos and there was no editing or ratings or keywords, can't we just use the "Import" feature?
According to Apple's instructions, the way to import one library is to first switch iPhoto to open using that library (hold down the option key when opeining iPhoto and selecting that Library). Select your photo's, and the go to File>Export. Then quit iPhoto and switch to the new iPhoto Library and go to File>Import and select the file that was made during the Export. I suspect this is the approved method if you are not concerned with importing the edited photo's, keywords, etc. Is this correct?
I recognize from LarryHN's posts why you can no longer just drag and drop the files using the Finder, but if we don't use iPLM, I wanted to make sure I use the correct method to combine Libraries.
BTW, speaking of using the Finder, do any of you remember the Multi-Finder?

Yes that's correct. Remember you are not importing libraries or merging them or combining. You're exporting from one and then importing those exports to the other. That's getting the photos from one to the Finder. Then importing them.

Part of the studying strategy is to study by the previous exams questions. I have those (a lot of them) in text format.
The app would need to have:
- Support for multiple-choice questions;
- Easy, fast and automated way of importing the questions;
Would be nice to have:
- Ability to include a rich-text comment along with the right/wrong answer;
- Support for tagging each questions.

Problem with Import and Export Data Wizard

Downloaded and installed SQL Server Express 2008 R2 today because I want to explore how Access interacts with SQL Server (using my home computer). I'm using Access 2010 (under Windows 7), so the 2008 version of SQL Server Express seemed to be the version
to use.
After a couple of false starts, installation appeared to go okay. After the installation. My Start menu listed Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. The latter listed Import and Export Data (64-bit). When I clicked that, the first Import
and Export Data Wizard page was displayed. I wasn't ready at that time to explore the wizard, so I closed it. An hour or so later I again attempted to open the Import and Export Data wizard. This time, the wizard didn't open. Instead this error message was
displayed: "The SSIS Runtime object could not be created. Verify that DTS.dll is available and registered."
I found DTS.dll on my computer at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn, so the file is available, but don't know whether it is registered.
How can I correct this problem?

First can you please post all log file errors

1. You may try to just register 'dts.dll' using regsvr32.exe, but this error may indicate a bigger problem with setup.
If you are running SQL Server 64bit then try running this at the command prompt: %windir%\syswow64\regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\dts\binn\dts.dll"
2. You can try reinstall from start (In this case you have to make sure that you un-install all)
