Import and rip to AAC at sametime

I have generated some AIFF files and would like to import them into iTunes as AAC files.  If I try to import them into iTunes it will just import the AIFF files, not convert, I then would have to CREATE AAC VERSION.  Is there anyway to combine these two steps?  I can elimate creating an 'extra' file by changing pref when importing the AIFF file into my iTunes folder so it doesn't create a copy, then changing it back when creating the AAC file, but that seems like a lot of work, maybe even make it a script.

Open iTunes Preferences.
Windows: Choose Edit  > Preferences.
Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
Click the General button, then click the Importing Settings button in the second section of the window.
From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want , then click OK to save the settings.

  • Import and Rip to itunes

I have about 500 gigs of apple loseless music files on an external HD. I want to rip them to AAC and import them into my new Macbook pro. IS there an easier way than copying a bunch of songs over, then ripping them to AAC, then deleting the originals?

"Rip" refers to extracting music from a CD, but I gather that what you mean is to convert Apple Lossless to AAC?
You can use iTunes to do the conversion, by adding them to your iTunes library (which does not require copying them over). Then highlight them in batches and use the command Advanced > Create AAC Version.
You can also use a 3rd party conversion program that can handle ALAC, of which the only one I know is dbPoweramp.
Either way, note that all conversion programs operate serially, so converting 500 Gigs will take you a while.

    Try this.
Open your home movie in QuickTime Player X. (Or right click on your home movie in the Finder and select Open With... QuickTime Player.
Then click the Commenad Key and the letter I at the same time to open the Inspector.
Tell us what you see next to the word Format: in the Inspector.

Rip the CDs with another program on your computer, and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.  (If you use Windows Media Player for this purpose, make sure the Rip Setting is on MP3, or else it will default to a useless format known as WMA.)

  • Importing and playing store bought CDs

Just got an I Pod Nano & a great sounding Altec Lansing docking/speaker system. Began syncing songs that I already imported into I Tunes. Of course I also began importing more songs from store bought CDs. Just started having a problem with a majority of my CDs - when I click on import - songs won't import. Status bar never appears and 1st song to import just sticks. Also can't play the CD in I Tunes to listen to it. But........ some of my CDs will still import and play just fine?????????? Have tried changing preferences for the Encoder but nothing seems to work. I have to force quit the App & relaunch it every time. If I try the same CD again I get the same results??????

Thanks for the reply, while that is certainly an option, I would still like to figure out why this problem exists in the first place. Not being able to play CDs is an equally annoying issue.
There have been a bunch of similar problems reported here lately. The only suspicious thing in your diagnostics is the Gear drivers, so the first thing to try is to update your Gear firmware. Then retry with iTunes.
I'm wondering if it might be my CD/DVD RW playing up.
If the CD rips OK in another program, it is probably not a drive problem.

  • Import from cd on aac or mp3 to burn back onto cd?

I've noticed, belatedly, that when I copy a CD onto my Mac it's saving the songs as AAC rather than MP3 as it used to. The Help menu kind of implies that although AAC is a better format, MP3 might be better if you're intending to burn the tracks onto CD. Am I misreading that, or should I revert to importing at MP3 for my for-my-own-amusement compilation CDs?
    Thanks,
    Iain

The problem with both mp3 an AAC are they don't save the music at the same quality as the original. I know most people don't have the drive space to store the files long-term in the AIFF full-quality format but if you are doing this over the short term I would import as AIFF, burn the compilation, then delete the AIFF files. If you want the music on your computer too then I would import as mp3 or AAC for the long term and AIFF for the short term.

  • Library organisation and ripping advice

    Hi
I have recently purchased an ipod Nano(8gb)and have had a 2nd gen shuffle for about 6 month.
Prior to getting an iPod and using iTunes, I had a Creative Zen Xtra. I have ripped the majority of my cd's to my hd (10000+ @128kbs and all in mp3 format) via Musicmatch.
All my music is kept in My Documents/Jukebox/[Artist]/Artist-Trackname.mp3 and this has served me well and managed to successfully import all into iTunes.
I still have 40% of my cd's to import which I would normally rip via Musicmatch but its not recognising as many of my cd's via online lookup and having to manually type in.
iTunes is far superior in recognising the cd and aslo getting the album art (which I want now as have nano).
There are also some cd's that I want to complete,i.e I burned the cd but just the album tracks, not the single releases as they were ripped for the single cd. Obviously according to iPod when you choose that album, it has 'gaps' in the track number and does not associate the single with the album.
I was thinking of biting the bullet and ripping all my cd's again via iTunes to make everything consistent Artist/Album/Trackname - then renaming files Artist-Trackname.mp3
Is there a more refined and quicker solution than this?
    Thanks in advance
    Graeme

    Hi
Thanks for the info. Maybe I didn't explain myself very well
When I ripped my cd's over a period of many months (I ripped them all via Musicmatch and made sure that the ID tags for trackname , artist and album were filled correctly. I then used the feature inside musicmatch to use the artist and trackname tags to create the filename.
I then used to put all the files into their own artist subdirectory. So far so good.
However since using iTunes I have now run into 3 problems:-
    1) I would now like to fill in the Year , Album art and genre tag fields for each track with as automated an approach as possible. I know iTunes would do this if I reimported all cd's but this would take ages (Library is around 12000 tracks).
    2) Each artist folder is not subdivided, there is no heirarchy, so all Oasis tracks for example are in folder called Oasis. I would like to be able to take this directory and have a folder for each album, like itunes does. All the tags are there for it to be done, just looking again for software to automate this process.
    3) To try and reduce duplicates, I used to omit tracks from albums that I had the singles for, and just rip the single. This was fine but now on my iPod if i choose an album there may be 3 or 4 tracks missing. I know want to go back and import those tracks I omitted so the album is complete, irrespective of how many times that track now appears, so i can play album in it's entirety. So I am looking for a quick way to do this.
I can't really notice a difference between 128 and 192, however i may have selective hearing so i don't have to rip all my cd's again :0)
    Cheers
    Graeme

  • Difference between Import and Add

Just curious what the difference between Import and Add File/Folder in iTunes is? I know consolidate will create a copy of your files and put them into the iTunes library.

    Import is for audio files.
Add to library is for MP3, AAC, Apple Aossless, aiff and wav files.
I know consolidate will create a copy of your files and put them into the iTunes library.
Close. The iTunes library what is in iTunes.
Consolidate copies the files into the iTunes music folder.

When I attempt to log on to I tunes I get the following message:
"The registry settings used by the I Tunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.
This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please re-install I Tunes."
To my knowledge no new software has been installed.  I have tried un-installing and re-installing I Tunes but I still
    get the same message.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?  Do I need to download a new driver?
    Bill Martin

I can get down as far as step 11 but it shows nothing about upper filters and when I type on "If the Upper Filters entry is missing follow these instructions" nothing happens
Do you mean you can't see the instructions on what to do if there is no UpperFilters entry?
If so, here's the relevant instructions for that step:
On the right side of the Registry Editor window, right-click the UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.
Right-click the empty white space within the right-hand portion of the Registry Editor window. From the shortcut menu, choose New > Multi-String Value.
Name this new value "UpperFilters" (without the quotes). Then, right-click the newly created UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.

  • What is the difference between import and merge?

When setting up my wife's new account on my son's MBP, I did not migrate all of her photos as they were in 2 or 3 separate iPhoto Libraries.  I researched this forum and found the best way to merge all of her libraries is to buy iPLM.  According to a post by Terence Devlin, if I don't use iPLM, thumbnails, previous editing, keywords, etc., will not be imported.  OK, but if we only want the originals photos and there was no editing or ratings or keywords, can't we just use the "Import" feature?
According to Apple's instructions, the way to import one library is to first switch iPhoto to open using that library (hold down the option key when opeining iPhoto and selecting that Library).  Select your photo's, and the go to File>Export.  Then quit iPhoto and switch to the new iPhoto Library and go to File>Import and select the file that was made during the Export.  I suspect this is the approved method if you are not concerned with importing the edited photo's, keywords, etc.  Is this correct?
I recognize from LarryHN's posts why you can no longer just drag and drop the files using the Finder, but if we don't use iPLM, I wanted to make sure I use the correct method to combine Libraries.
BTW, speaking of using the Finder, do any of you remember the Multi-Finder?

Yes that's correct. Remember you are not importing libraries or merging them or combining. You're exporting from one and then importing those exports to the other. That's getting the photos from one to the Finder. Then importing them.

  • Best app to import and study multiple choice questions.

    Hi,
I'm searching for an app to help study for an exam.
Part of the studying strategy is to study by the previous exams questions. I have those (a lot of them) in text format.
The app would need to have:
    - Support for multiple-choice questions;
    - Easy, fast and automated way of importing the questions;
    Would be nice to have:
    - Ability to include a rich-text comment along with the right/wrong answer;
    - Support for tagging each questions.
I've used the search function and found this:http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1041085 but it's been a while since then.

  • Problem with Import and Export Data Wizard

Downloaded and installed SQL Server Express 2008 R2 today because I want to explore how Access interacts with SQL Server (using my home computer). I'm using Access 2010 (under Windows 7), so the 2008 version of SQL Server Express seemed to be the version
    to use.
After a couple of false starts, installation appeared to go okay. After the installation. My Start menu listed Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. The latter listed Import and Export Data (64-bit). When I clicked that, the first Import
and Export Data Wizard page was displayed. I wasn't ready at that time to explore the wizard, so I closed it. An hour or so later I again attempted to open the Import and Export Data wizard. This time, the wizard didn't open. Instead this error message was
displayed: "The SSIS Runtime object could not be created. Verify that DTS.dll is available and registered."
I found DTS.dll on my computer at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn, so the file is available, but don't know whether it is registered.
How can I correct this problem?

First can you please post all log file errors
    >> I can't really give you a solution or specific recommendation since I did not saw this error yet myself, but on your own risk you can try:
    1. You may try to just register 'dts.dll' using regsvr32.exe, but this error may indicate a bigger problem with setup.
If you are running SQL Server 64bit then try running this at the command prompt: %windir%\syswow64\regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\dts\binn\dts.dll"
    2. You can try reinstall from start (In this case you have to make sure that you un-install all)
