Import and view AVCHD GPS information into FCP

Is there a way to look up the GPS information of AVCHD clips in FCP 7 that were ingested via Log and Transfer so one can see where the footage was shot. I have a Sony HDR-CX550v. I searched everywhere for an answer without success. Thanks for your help.

Checked our CatDV. Their GPS display capabilities are limited to the 3Gs iPhone at this time. No other video cameras are supported at this time.
I found one other workaround though. Use the Sony HDR-CX550v or similar camera and create a still image from the footage at each location. Aperture 3 can display GPS information from still images transferred from the camera. This way you can identify the location of your footage.

How can I add gps information into my pictures?
I understand Photos doens't have this feature.
Só how could I do it with an external application. Is it possible? Can I even use iPhoto with the same library (since they share stuff) to do it?

Photos does not support to add location information yet.
Add the GPS before you import the photos to Photos. I hope this will change with the next release.
You could ,for example, first import to iPhoto, add the locations, batch change the titles and captions, do all the things that are not yet supported in the new Photos, then export the photos from iPhoto and import them to Photos.
Or use the free exiftool, if you like the Terminal.
    See:  http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/exiftool_pod.html#geotagging_exampl es
    To install exiftool: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/%7Ephil/exiftool/install.html
Other convenient apps are Jetphoto Studio, Geotagalog, there are many more ..
I use Jetphoto Studio, but it is not free.

  • Can I import and view from a camara

I was reading on the new that there are a few ways to import pictures from my Canon G5 camera. The two most common are the Belkin compact flash reader, or the apple iPod camera connector (I think it is called). the thing that plugs into the ipod and the camera plugs in through the USB plug. Is there anyway to import and view the pictures in the field from the Canon G5, or do I just import them as data and have to go through the computer later. This would be on a 5G iPod. Has anyone had success doing this in the field yet.

Am a new iPod owner myself, but as I understand it, you can view thumbnails or iPod screen size renderings of the photos loaded into the unit. Suspect the functionality will depend on why you need to look at them and the level of detail required for your field work.

  • Cannot import voice over from garage band into FCP-X

cannot import voice over from garage band into FCP-X

    Try:
Share > Send Song to iTunes. In the dialog, turn OFF compress. That will create an .aiff version of your GB project.
Alternately, you can Share to iTunes. When iTunes opens, right click on the selection and select Create AIFF version.
When iTunes opens, right click on the selection and select Show In Finder -> drag it out to a more convenient location (or option-click-drag to make a duplicate in the new location you drag to.)
    Import that file into FCPX.

  • Import 32 GB of AVI files into FCP X?

Hello, I need to import 32 GB of AVI files into FCP X. It seems iMOVIE has no problem accepting AVI's, but FCP X says they are not "importable" (as I believe AVI is not a supported format in FCP X).
Can someone please recommend the best way for me to import 32GB of AVI into FCP X? With brief research, I believe Mpeg Stream Clip (?) would be an option, but I want something efficient and will be able mass convert if necessary (don't want to convert each individual clip).
Also what would be the best filetype to convert the AVI's into?
Any prompt insight would really be appreciated, thanks in advance.
    GSI

Well, I've got time if thats what it takes.
My goal is to convert the 32gb of "AVI files" into something compatible in FCP X without reducing the video quality. I don't know a specific file type, I just imported them from MINI DV into Sony Vegas (and then just dragged the files from Vegas onto an external and now just want them to get into FCP X)
I just downloaded Stream Clip, added 100 clips (4gb) of avi clips to batch list, but am having trouble converting. I tried converting to DV or Quicktime and the response is "Error: Can't create the MOV file"

  • I can't import and view videos from a camera.

I can't import and view videos from a camera.  Even if I open the file and copy the .avi files onto the hard drive.  I have tried iMovie, Quicktime, and Flip player.  Flip player will open it but I only get the audio,  Quicktime freezes, and iPhoto tries to automatically import only to then error saying the files are not compatible.

    Hello Hese,
    try the following:
    1. delete preferences (com.apple.iMovie.plist) and empty the trash
    2. repair disc permissions with Disc Utility and reboot your mac
    3. use Diskwarrior or MacJanitor for disc clean-up
    4. disconnect any other firewire devices
    5. take off any non-system desktop pictures
If nothing else helps, you might want to consider resetting your Firewire port(s)

  • Import video and audio from a dvd into FCP

Is there an easier way to import video and audio into Final Cut Pro - I am playing it on a DVD player and making a digital tape of it. Then logging and capturing it into FCP.

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Yes, there are a few ways that are faster. Have a look at this thread http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=3465691
You could use software, such as "streamclip", or import by plugging your camera into your capture device and hooking your capture device into your computer and capturing by non-controllable device settings.
    Good Luck

  • Importing a Quicktime H.264 movie into FCP and DVD SP

    Hi,
I am curious why when I import a Quicktime H.264.MOV file into FCP it always makes me render (just the audio) when I place it on the timeline. Also when I try to import it into DVDSP it says that it is an incompatible file.
I know its an odd question, so don't ask me why I am doing it backwards.
Thanks to anyone that can help!
    Gary

    Hi David,
Thanks for your help. These projects are legal video stuff and I usually pause every hour and a half for about 10 minutes. (so I can put each segment on separate DVDs) I am feeding a video signal into a stand alone DVD writer AND into my Mac (I need to make a redundant recordings in case anything goes wrong). The problem with my stand alone DVD writer is to put in accurate chapter markers is a pain. Also it has a rather bland DVD setup menu which looks poor. So basically I am trying to take a video source from my camera and have it do the compression on the fly. I want to write my DVD in DVDSP because it has a ton of formatting options, and chapter markers are much easier to place.
Basically I am looking for the absolute quickest way to write a DVD without having to bring it into Compressor.
    Thanks again for your time!

  • Why won't the iTunes Store allow me to make purchases and view my account information?

    Hello,
I'm having several issues with my iTunes store account and was wondering if someone could help me. This is basically what happened...
Problem #1 - iTunes store will not let me purchase music:
I signed into iTunes (i.e. entered my Apple ID and Password). I looked up some music and pressed "Buy." A pop-up appears and says, "Are you sure you want to buy and download "Song Name?" As a response, I press the "Buy" button. Then another pop-up appears and says, "Improve Apple ID security - To help ensure the security of your Apple ID, choose 3 security questions and answers" and it also requires my Apple ID and Password. I enter my Apple ID and Password and press the "Continue" button. Another pop-up appears saying, "Sign in Required - enter your Apple ID and Password" (Note: I am already signed in at this point). So, I enter my Apple ID and Password again. However, the "Sign in Required - enter your Apple ID and Password" appears again. I'm signed in, but the iTunes store apparently believes that I'm not. Why is this happening and how do I solve this?
Problem # 2 - iTunes store will not let me view my account information:
While signed in, I click the button at the top right corner of the iTunes store (i.e., the button with my Apple ID on it - [email protected]). Then I click "Account." A pop-up appears saying, "Sign in to view account information - Please enter your Apple ID and password and click "Account Info." So I enter my Apple ID and password and click the "Account Info" button (Note: I am already signed in at this point). Then another pop-up appears saying, "Sign in to view account information - Please enter your Apple ID and password and click "Account Info." Once again, I enter my Apple ID and password, then press the "Account Info" button. Then, the same "Sign in to view account information" pop-up appears again.
Basicially, I can sign into my iTunes store account, but when I want to make purchases or view my account information, iTunes continuously asks me to sign in even when I am already signed in.
Also, it might be helpful to note the following:
    - I want to change my account info because my old credit card expired and I now have a new one (and would like to change my payment info accordingly)
    - Also, I changed my password in hopes that it would help solve these problems. However, this did not help in the least.
I hope someone can help me out because I do not want anyone else to access my account (and spend my money) due to its apparent malufunctioning. And thanks in advance for your help!
    Cheers,
    K.E.K.

I had similiar problems with my itunes account and after some searching found a response that helped me - perhaps it will help you also...
It has to do with the cookie settings in Safari (of all things!)
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3559322?start=0&tstart=0
I had the problem where when I started up itunes I was constantly prompted for my password regarding something about "automatic downloads". No matter how many times I typed it in, the prompt would just keep re-appearing (I tried about 8-10 times).
When I tried to resolve the issue (based on another thread) by viewing my itunes account (in the top left drop down window where your user name is), I was getting odd messages about "make sure the date is correct", and itunes would not let me view my account.
By turning OFF the option to block ALL cookies in Safari, the problem(s) have gone away.
Open Safari - go to prefs - click on Privacy tab - make sure "block cookies" is set to "from third parties..."
    Good luck.

  • Importing and editing AVCHD

I have a Canon Vixia HF M41 HD camcorder that records in AVCHD. My usage to date (using iMovie 11) has been to import, do some quick editing in a project, finalize, and then share on youtube in HD (with family) and also share via itunes.
I import everything and at highest possible quality (I think) as I may want to do more with these events in the future.
I now have access to FCP X.
I'm curious about a few things:
Should I import in AVCHD and edit in AVCHD (which I understand FCP X is capable of unlike iMovie 11) or should I use some other ProRes or some other codec? Would you guys use 1080i or 720P?
Again, I'm mostly concered about retaining best possible quality since I do erase these events from the camcorder afterwards. I have archived some as well, but I'm not sure I need to keep doing that if I make sure the event clips are kept at highest possible quality.
    Thanks in advance

You should be OK importing the AVCHD footage natively though there are certain advantages to using ProRes if you can put up with the huge files  .  .  .  50GB per hour!
Make camera archives of your SD card and store them on your HDs.
Basically these are complete clones of your original SD card so the footage is exactly as you shot it and reasonably compact.
Always make 2 archives and put them on different hard drives as an insurance against a hard drive failing.

  • Importing and executing a .sql file into  Oracle 10g

    Hi
I am looking to import and execute a .sql file(create scripts created of a databse designed in MS SQL Server 2005). The file was imported into Oracle APEX 3.10 but we are unable to execute the script. Please suggest alternatives as to how we can import these files.
    Thanks in advance.

You likely need to migrate the database (objects and data). This is not so easy and you should have a look to migration tools: http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/07-sep/o57sql.html.

  • Importing and Organizing Thousands of Photos into IPhoto

How can I import about 20 thousands photo into IPhotos and keep the logical organization?
I just buy a Mac Mini and I start trying to move my photos. These are organized in directories by dates with a customize description for the occasion ( …/YEAR/YEAR-MONTH-DAY + DESCRIPTION/)
I tried with few directories and I realized that in order to use IPhoto and keep the logical organization I will have to create and name about 500 albums manually and look for the photos for every album again one by one.
It sounds hard because the number of albums and photos.

There is a 3rd party application, iPhotoTool, that will let you select the top folder containing many subfolders and import all of them into iPhoto and create an album of each sub folder. That will save you a lot of manual work. Then all you need to do is create folders in the Source pane to organize your albums. Be sure to not allow duplicates each time it asks or you'll get duplicates in many of the folders. You'll be asked for each subfolder above the lowest but that's lot easier than manually finding and dragging each folder into iPhoto's Source pane.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Workflow process import and compress footage in compressor for FCP

What is the workflow to import footage from Panasonic H2 camera to compress to Apple Pro Res 422 codec?

    Open Compressor.
Drag your footage into the dropzone on the upper left.
Look in the SETTINGS area in the OTHER WORKFLOWS>Advanced Format Conversions>Apple Codecs for the ProRes 422 for Progressive.  Drag that setting onto your clips.
    Press SUBMIT.
Move the resulting compressed files to where you want them to be on your media drive.  Get rid of the added naming Compressor puts on there (Apple ProRes 422)...then bring into FCP.
    Very simple.
