Import another library

I have another library I would like to import to Photos. When I go to import on Photos, the other library I have on iPhoto is greyed out and inaccessible. How do I import it to the new Photos?

You cannot import one Library into another.
You can convert other libraries simply by opening them: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

Hi, I bought a new laptop and have re-registered with itunes. By mistake I deleted old library (from first registration on itunes) from my ipod. Does anyone know how I can import my old library back onto my ipod

Copy your library from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one, then sync it to your ipod.

  • Importing one library to another..Help.

    Hi,
I've been using Aperture for a very long time now and generally I'm good are figuring stuff out..For that matter, I have rarely encountered an issue I can't fix myself. Until today.
So I have a library called "Portrait Library", I'm trying to import another library into it. The import process went well, as usual (I've done this many times already) - except this time something I have never seen and is rather problem some has occurred.
When I go to check on the images - I learned I wasn't able to edit them. I see the image in my library in icon view and in full view. However, I noticed something unsual this time in LIST view. List view shows me everything and in this case it shows that I each image had a yellow exclamation mark with a arrow (indicating referenced).
The odd thing is they should be referenced - they should be living inside of the library. I'm not sure what else to do.
    I'd appreciate any input.
    Thanks.

Referenced is "living" outside the Library in another place.  Managed would be in the Library.
Check the following for badge definitions, but sounds like these images are referenced, and the source is not connected, or otherwise not available.

I have multiple libraries. I would like to import one project into another library. How?

Select the project in the Library Inspector and export the project as library. Then import this library into your other Aperture library.
File > Export > Project as New Library
    File > Import > Library

  • PC died and in turn my main iTunes library. iPhone was synced to it. Now when I try to connect to another library it tells me the phone must be wiped clean before I can manage music with new library. Any way around that? Don't want to lose music.

My PC died and in turn so did my main iTunes library.  My iPhone was synced to the library that is gone.  Now when I try to connect to another library, it tells me the phone must be wiped clean before I can manage music with new library.  Any way around that?  I don't want to lose the music that is on my phone.  I am looking for a way to tell the phone to "forget" the old library and let me start working with a new library.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy of your computer to put everything on the new one.
It sounds like you have failed to do this, which is not good at all.
You will have to transfer your itunes purchases from your iphone.  Authorize your computer for your itunes account
About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization
Open itunes, plug in iphone, do NOT sync, click File>Transfer Purchases
When you do sync you will lose your pics ( photo library - synced from your old computer), your itunes content ( music, apps, videos, etc) , your contacts and your calendars.  So do NOT sync yet.  This is why a backup copy is so important.
Enter one unique contact and calendar entry on your computer.
When you first sync, you should get the option to merger the data.  Choose it.
If you want your pics, then you will need to e-mail them to yourself before you sync.  They will not be of the original quality as they are reduced when synced to iphone.
When all is as goos as it can be, then backup your computer, and always maintain the backup.

  • How do you take pictures from one library and put in another library??

How do you take pictures from one library and put in another library??

    Options:
    1. Export from iPhoto A to the Finder, then import to iPhoto B
This gets the photo over, but no versions, no edit history and not all the metadata
    2. Use iPhoto Library Manager
This gets everything: versions, edit history and all the metadata.

  • How to merge one library into another library?

In iPhoto  9.6, is it possible to merge one library into another library? Or otherwise, import individual pictures, from one library into the other library? All of this happening on the same computer.I understand that this feature was covered by Aperture but that this is no longer supported under Yasemite?

    No
The current version of Aperture can merge libraries (I have no idea where you got the incorrect information that it can not)
The paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  can
Those are you only two choices

  • How do I remove an imported iPhoto library at multiple users

There seem to be different ways of sharing an iPhoto library among multiple users on a single Mac and I guess I didn't select the best one ...
My wife and I both have an account on our Mac (I am administrator).
Originally, only on my account we viewed our photos, but my wife wanted to have the same iPhoto access via her account.Makes sense!
Via 'system preferences > share'  I marked the picture folder in which the iPhoto library is stored as a 'shared folder'.
Then in my wifes account, I started iPhoto and I imported the iPhoto library file in this shared folder (and 'yes', I unchecked the option in the preferences menu to avoid copying photos on import ;-)
Well, for the next hours or so, the system started to import the photos ... although my photo library contains more then 10.000 pictures (!!) the status bar during import indicated a shear amount of ±260.000 pictures to be imported (as it turns out it includes the 'faces' as pictures).
To make a long story short - how do I restore iPhoto on my wifes account by e.g. removing/undoing the imported library. I am a bit hesitant in removing the library since it is the library stored in our shared folder and I don't want to delete that library file. I 'just' want it to turn back to the original 'empty' iPhoto on my Wife's account and share our library in a different way.
By the way, although the iPhoto library/events are a mess on my wifes account, it still looks good on my account.
    Thanks.
    D.

Trash the Library in your wife's account.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • How can i copy songs from another library to my itunes library with homesharing?

How can i copy songs from another library to my itunes library with homesharing?  I see the other libraries, but cannot drag the songs into my library.  The help window says to use the "show menu" at the bottom, but I don't have that menu with itunes 11.

You can do this in 2 ways.
    1) You can enable the sidebar and you can drag and drop like you used to be able to.  To turn on Sidebar in iTunes 11, go to View > Show Sidebar
    2) Another way is to connect to your Home Share from the drop-down menu from the left (where it says Music) and select your Home Share.  Once you are connected to your Home Share, select Music and you should see a button that says "All Items" and on the right, you should see the Import button.  To copy, select the songs you want to import and then click on Import.

  • Importing iTunes library onto a third computer?

    Hello,
I've got my iTunes on my original PC and work laptop. I am trying to import my iTunes library onto another PC, but I am unable to import my library, even though everything else is okay (Store, etc).
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

All you need to do is set your iTunes folder [on your laptop] in
iTunes->Edit->Preferences->Advanced to the folder on the external drive which contains your library on the external drive, making sure to
    a) Set iTunes to keep your music and folders arranged
    b) Set iTunes to Add files when importing music or other files into iTunes library
Now, if you choose not to carry the portable drive around with you, here's how to add those files to your iTunes installtion on the laptop:
    a) Copy the ENTIRE folder containing the media files on the portable drive into your iTunes\My Music folder on the laptop.
    b) You will then have to recreate the library. To do this, add the folder to iTunes using "File->Add Folder". This will recreate the Library on your laptop. MAKE SURE you have enough machines activated to play your iTunes purchases. You may only activate 5 machines at any one time, so if iTunes says all 5 are used, make sure to deactivate all five, then go to your Account and reactiavate one machine on each machine you own which has an iTunes library. If you have more than 5, I don't know what to do, except create a new account for subsequent machines.
Just add the new laptop to the sync schedule and all libraries should remained synched.

  • Import separate library with faces 'tags'

I want to import some events with face tags from a separate library. How can I import the library with the face tags (and event names) from one to another? This is what I've done so far but have been unable to import the faces. I selected the event from a iPhoto library I want to move and exported the event/photos to a folder. I then opened iPhoto with the library I want to import TO and selected import. Photos are there, but no face tags or events. Am I missing something or is there an better way?

the best way to move photos between libraries is iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - Check their documentation - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/Help/table%20of%20contents.html - to see if they handle faces (I doubt that they do)

  • Insufficient disk space on Aperture Library volume to import iphoto library

3 Importing iphoto library to Aperture questions:
    (1) Finally switching to Aperture because too many photos to manage in iphoto. When importing iphoto library it gives me the message: Insufficient DIsk Space - "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need an additional 83GB of free space."
The photos are all on an external drive which has 150GB free space. I also tried moving the aperture library to another hard drive which has lots of free space. I want the Aperture library to reside on the external drive so I can share it between my laptop and desktop.
I tried this at the apple store and it was going to work. I came home and it now says it needs 125GB free space. Is this a function of which computer you use to import the library? What can I do because I can't spend hours at the apple store if it may take that long to import all the photos from the library.
    (2) Is there an optimum way to import a large library, rather than all at once?
(3)Used iphoto manager to create a project library from an iphoto library. Now have 2 good libraries to import, one with about 35k photos, the other with about 8k. The 8k will have some duplicates from the larger one. When I import that one I don't want to import duplicates, but do want to retain the organization and labeling of those duplicates in terms of which albums and events they are in. Is that possible?
    Thanks!

Or use Aperture's built-in and suggested way to deal with the problem of a Library outgrowing your system drive: make many of your Image's Originals referenced rather than managed.
Aperture lets you store any Image's Original on any locally-mounted drive.  Moving your Image's Originals from inside your Library (in which case they are "managed") to outside the Library (in which case they are "referenced") is easy -- as it moving them back.
The two main complications that arise from using Referenced Originals are:
    - you must back up your Referenced Originals in addition to backing up your Library.  Backing up your Library _does not_ back up your Referenced Originals
    - you must not make any changes to your Referenced Originals with any program other than Aperture.  _Do not_ use Finder to move, rename, etc.

  • Importing Itunes Library - Itunes crash

Hi, I received an "Importing iTunes Library" pop-up when opening iTunes. It does it's stuff for awhile, and then replies with "iTunes library is corrupt." I replaced it with my latest backup (from last night) It is a regular computer backup, not an iTunes backup, and I still get the same response. I replaced the entire iTunes folder in Windows (not the music itself) I have the latest iTunes software
    Please help! Thanks

  • Importing a Library/Project, merging vs. adding?

When I import a library/project from one library to another library, it asks if I want to merge or add to the current library. What's the difference???
    Thanks,
    Fran

Merging it will attempt to add only what has changed if there are projects with the same names - adding it ignores the name and treats everything like a new project so if there are duplicates you will end up with multiple of everything.
