Import Archived Mail from another Mac

Hi Folks -
I have a large mail database in Apple Mail from another Mac (with Mavericks).  I would like to bring the mail messages over to a different Mac with Yosemite and into Apple Mail, so they are local and searchable in Spotlight.  I was think I just have to copy the database from the ~/Library/Mail to the new Mac, but I'm not sure if I should be doing an import function in Mail.
Can anyone advise on the best workflow to migrate Mail messages to a new Mac?  Note: I would like to keep all the existing Mail messages that are already residing on the new Mac and add to them with the above mentioned archive.
Thanks
Paul

Copy and then Import. You will probably end up with 2 archives, which you can combine by copying from one archive (hold down the shift key while selecting the e-mails) to the other. Then you can delete the empty archive mailbox.

  • When exporting and then importing Apple Mail from one mac to another I get "Some messages could not be imported. Partially imported mailbox will be labeled IMPORT" . That mailbox does not appear.

    Any help would be welcome

This is a bug in Mail. The mailbox archiving function does not include attachments, which  gives the error with the import. To workaround this you can create a mailbox in Mail and copy to it all emails you want to export. Then go in Finder to [user]/Library/Mail/Mailboxes en select the created mailbox. Copy this to the public directory of your other mac. Then start Mail on that other mac and import the mailbox from the public directory. Should work now.

  • Import Previous Recipients from another Mac?

I need to import the previous recipients from another Mac. The importing OS is Tiger 10.4.
I have figured out how to import Address Book data which was exported from a Windows machine as a .csv file. That worked beautifully.
But I don't see any means of importing previous recipients which it seems is only a simple list of names and email addresses.
Anyone know how to do it?
    Thanks.

Just answered my own question. Turns out the import of the Address Book data also imported supplied the Previous Recipient function with the data it needed.
You guys are great! Just ask the question and it works before getting an answer!

  • HELP! Can't import archived mail from Apple Mail

I just moved up to a VERY nice MacPro. I archived mail on my G5. When I go to import it into Mail on my VNMP, it refuses to import. No real explanation, just says it couldn't import. Huh? Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Thanks

    Hi Ann,
I know Flip4Mac has updated the plugin, but it still
could be causing you the problem.
    Navigate to HD/Library/Quicktime
Drag the Flip4Mac component to the desktop and
    restart the Mac.
See if that makes any difference.
That was the problem. I can import video into iMovie from iPhoto again. So...now the Flip4Mac components are sitting on my desktop. Do I uninstall Flip4Mac? Or is there another option for using it without messing up my iMovie software?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Receiving multiple e-mails from another .Mac account

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but my fiance and I usually e-mail each-other back and forth throughout the course of the day. I, via my .Mac account on my iPhone and her, through the .Mac webmail.
The last few days, however, I've been receiving duplicate e-mail from her on my iPhone. It started out a few days ago with just one or maybe two duplicated in my inbox, but today I just received SEVEN copies of the same e-mail. She, on the other hand, is not experiencing the duplicate e-mail which leads me to believe that this is an iPhone related issue.
If its of importance, we're on a "Family Pack" .Mac account and it doesn't seem to make a difference if I'm connected via WIFI or simply EDGE.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Perhaps much more detail would help?
Could you ever send e-mail from the iphone?
Can you send e-mail from the same account on your computer?
When you try to send e-mail from iphone to you get an error message?
    What is the message?
Do you have a connection to the internet (edge, 3g, wi-fi)?

  • How to important "sent mail" from another account into Mail?

I wasn't sure where to put this question because of the way this forum is organized.
    Anyway, here is my problem:
I woke up thinking I may have forgotten to send an important e-mail yesterday. I thought, "No problem, I won't have to drive all the way to work. I'll just set up Mail on my iMac to use the e-mail account I use at work." It's an SBCGlobal account, so I found most of the information I needed about the mail servers and POP and IMAP and all that stuff that could be termed in a lot more user-friendly language so I don't have a conniption fit trying to figure out what it is I'm doing.
I finally managed to get it set up to where all of the messages from the inboxes were imported into my Mail app. One big problem: I need to look at the *sent* mail, and if I didn't send the e-mail I thought I needed to, I need to access attachments that I sent to others.
So how do I important the sent folder from my work e-mail account into Mail?

I wouldn't doubt it. I work at a small church so we don't have much funding, but we're switching to Gmail. I found an older, unedited print copy of what I was supposed to send and made alterations to that and e-mailed it to the people who needed it. The other thing I was supposed to e-mail isn't essential, I suppose, as it's Sunday's bulletin and everyone will be picking one up tomorrow when they come to church anyway. It's just that I'm fairly new at the position, I love everyone at the church and with whom I work, and I want to do everything right 100% of the time to please them because I'm very Type A. I've been really getting a hang of my job, but it seems there's always one thing that I screw up. I guess I'll get better with experience. And hopefully switching to Gmail, if I do this again, I can just access everything from home.

  • How to move some mail from another Mac?

My main Mac was in the shop for a week - the Apple people just fixed it (hooray!)
while it was gone, I was receiving my mail on an older computer.
if I take that week's worth of mail, and put it into a folder, is there anyway to copy that folder (and the mail therein) and put it into the other Mac, which is back from the shop?
    thanks!

You didn't mention before that your old computer was running Tiger.
Tiger Mail, indeed, doesn't have archive function so
the transfer process is slightly trickier.
    1. Archive all your mailboxes on the new computer the way i described above.
2.Make sure Mail is not running on the new computer.
Copy the directory homedirectory/Library/Mail and the file homedirectory/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from the old computer to the corresponding location on the new one.
    3. Start Mail. It should have the account setup and the mailbox content of your old computer. Import your achived mailboxes.

  • How to export a photo album from my iphone that was previously imported from another mac?

Again, I'd like to export a photo album from my iphone to my mac. What is unique here is that the album was originally imported from another mac to my iphone. When I open iphoto on my mac it will import everything else but this particular album. It's from my old iphone that crashed but I was lucky enough to export the pics from my old phone to another mac and then import them to my new iphone. Great as that is, I'd still like to export them to my mac. HELP, thoughts, ideas

Sync it to your new computer.
Open itunes, connect iphone, select what you want, sync.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Yes there is. Connect the two machines together usinf a Firewire or ethernet cable, and copy the iPhoto Library Folder from the Pictures Folder on the old machine to same location on the new one. Then, Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

  • Transferring Mail from one Mac to another via Screen Sharing

    Hi,
I live in California. My Mother lives in Montreal. She has to computers. A Mac Mini and new MacBook.
What I want to do is transfer her Mail from the Mac Mini to the MacBook via Screen Sharing or Remote Management. In other words, I want to do this from my computer.
How does one go about this? What somewhere is needed to make it all work?
    Thanks in advance.

you can't screen share between 3 computers. but you can between two. the easiest way is via ichat. users need to log into ichat on both computers and then you can send a request to share screen via ichat. it's also possible to do it without ichat but that might be more difficult that your mother can manage if she is not too computer savvy which I suspect is the case here. first she has to enable screen sharing in her system preferences->sharing. that's easy. but if she has a router (does she) then she need to port forward port public port 5900 on the router to the port 5900 on her computer so that you can get through the router when trying to screen share from outside. particular instructions on port forwarding depend on the router model. once the port is forwarded you can vnc to here computer from where you are by going to go menu-.connect to server in finder. then in the popup enter
    vnc://ip.address
where the ip.address is the ip address of her router. she can find it out by going to this website for example
    http://www.whatismyip.com/
but all in all, it's much easier with ichat as no port forwarding is required.

When I try to send e-mail I get an error message stating that the e-mail address was rejected by the server.  When I send to e-mail from another address, I get back an error saying the e-mail address is unknown.  My e-mail has worked fine for years until yesterday.  HELP!

The specific text of the error message is very important here — I'm not sure exactly you're encountering here.
If you're able to connect to your email server and are able send email to other email addresses and if the failures are specific to one email recipient address, then please contact the intended recipient of the failing email, and confirm their address is valid.  (This is the way I'm reading your question.)
If you are unable to send any email to any other email addresses and this is specific to your email address, then try the web mail client interface (if one is available) to verify your login user and password, and check with your email ISP for assistance.  If your email password works via web mail, follow this Apple troubleshooting guide, then — if everything else fails — I'd probably then entirely remove the email account from Mail.app and re-add it per your email ISP's particular setup requirements.  (Some issue with the setup or maybe a corrupt setting in OS X or a problem at the mail ISP servers is a common problem, but this effects attempts to send to all email addresses via that account.)
An email account setup is specific to an email provider, unfortunately.   If you're using one of the more common email ISPs, then there are usually setup guides and frequently-asked questions posted online.

  • Archive mail from Gmail

I have purchased a new mac and in setting up mail my gmail account is constantly fetching archive mail from the server.  25000 messages.  I have searched and searched but can't find a way to stop it or change my archive settings.  In the mean time because it's constantly looking for emails I have gone through my months worth of data in 2 days!  Any advice please?

Same here; right clicking and choosing "move to" is also an option, gives you more choiche.
Updating Apple products used to be without much problems, but since Mavericks it seems that every update create a new problem!

  • My new iMac hung up during Transferring from another Mac. How do I restart it?

My new iMac with fusion drive hung up during transfer from another Mac.  How do I restart it?

I'm afraid you'll have to power down both, then...
    For the 2 macs...
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

How do I save and import my bookmarks from another hard drive? When I try to open the installed Firefox on the old drive, it (obviously) opens a browser from the new main drive, free of bookmarks. Is there a way I can save the bookmarks on the old drive without opening a browser?
The guts of my computer were rearranged and I got a new main hard drive. My old one is still in there and I can get stuff from it, but when I go to the Mozilla folder on the old one, I can't figure out if there's anything I can do to get all my bookmarks from that drive to my new one, where Firefox is newly installed.

If you open Firefox then Firefox will always use the default profile folder as found via profiles.ini on your system drive.
You either need to import the file in your current default profile or copy the file to your current profile folder while Firefox is closed.
Firefox 3 stores the bookmarks and the browser history in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/places.sqlite places.sqlite] and no longer creates an HTML backup by default.
There are also (five) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder.
You can either copy the file places.sqlite to your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] or import the most recent JSON backup from the bookmarkbackups folder of that old profile.
    See:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
"Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders".
You may want to un-check the box "Hide extensions for known file types" to see the file extensions of all files.
