Import audio across slides

Hi, I'm using Captivate 6 on NT. I need to import audio across mutiple slides, but I don't get the Split prompt. I went into Preferences and reset the Confirmation Message to prompt me for Split Audio, but I still don't get prompted. I turned on prompts for all types of other things, but not Split audio. I am importing 30 minutes of audio to a 3-second slide, so it should prompt me. I Searched for the Preferences folder so I could rename or delete it, but I can't find it.
Thanks, Guy

Never mind, I got it! The prompt doesn't show up until AFTER it has imported the audio. With 30 minutes of audio, that's quite a lot of time! So I got the prompt and I'm good!
Thanks!

  • Captivate 6 randomly dropping imported audio from slides during publish.

I think I remember this occurring in 5.5 as well, but only very occasionally. In this (my first) cp6 project, it's occurred 3 times already.
What occurs is that upon viewing the output (.exe), one slide will just not play the audio imported to it, although the slides before that one and the slides after it play their imported files.
I have re-published the project 6 times, and in two of those new publishes, it has dropped audio in a different slide, and played the audio on the slide where it previously did not play audio.
The imported files play just fine in all slides during preview in every case, so it seems to be occuring at publish. These are straight  Audio > Import to > Slide wav files.
    Anyone else see this?
At this point I just have to keep re-publishing until I get one that plays all files and call it a day.

    Hi, Varun.
I finally got around to updating to 6.0.1.240 this morning.
The audio issue seems to still be there....it still drops imported audio from certain sildes, randomly.  It changes with every publish.
THEORY: I noticed that on one of the slides where audio didn't play, the audio file contained a small silent region before the narration began. Maybe .3 or .5 seconds. I removed that silent portion so that the narration starts almost immediately (i.e. less than .2 second seconds of silence.) and for that slide, the audio did play at publish.  So perhaps something in the playback exe is ignoring any audio that starts "too late" into the slide.... ?
I am now going back to check the audio files in every slide to remove any preceding silent passaages, and see if that cures this. Will update with my findings.
Another issue I noticed  is that my background loop randomly stops playing. (This may have been  in the previous build, too, not sure.) Not sure if this is in any way related.
If I pause and un-pause, the background music returns (starts at beginning of loop), and then stops again.. I verfied that "Loop Audio" is turned on.
    Thanks.

  • Getting Audio across slides

I have had a great guy doing my breeze (Adobe Presenter)
presentations so I haven't had that much hands on experience. He
left the company and now I am up a creek.
I have a presentation and an audio file (50 min) that is
suposed to cover all the slides. I can't seem to get it to import
the audio for the whole presentation. What happens is that the
audio file gets associated with one slide and not the whole set.
Can someone tell me what I am doign wrong?
    Thanks from the Newbie.
    Tim

Solution : You can import that audio on slide 1 or to that
slide from where you want audio to start playing and then open
audio editor and move the slide markers so that audio gets
associated with different slides e.g lets say you have an audio of
2 minutes and you want to hear first half of that audio when slide
1 is playing and remaining half when slide 2 plays then you can
import that audio on slide 1 and open Audio Editor and move slide 2
marker at appropriate position on the audio waveform shown

  • Need help normalizing audio across slides in capt.8

I have a 100-slide project - that I recorded audio for over a few weeks (so some slides have louder audio than others). I'd like the volume to be the same. I've tried editing the "project" audio, selecting the entire wave form (ctrl A), then clicking on Adjust Audio, then normalize, then save, then close. Doesn't work. Any ideas as to why? thank you.

Thank you for your honest answer. I spent so much time trying yesterday. i notice I have audition too (wonder if it came with captivate) - I will try that - I can see that there are some youtube videos about audition, so I'll have a look. thanks again!

  • Imported audio files are repeating same audio on objects in a slide

    Hi
I can't find anything here that mentions the problem I am having.
I am using Captivate 4. And Neospeechs desktop VoiceText program to record audio files outside of Captivate. They are saved as WAV files, then I import the audio into Captivate.
I have various objects on a slide. For example, I have six text Rollover Captions. When you roll over them, some text is displayed. I have attached my audio files to these rollover objects. So, I would have audio1.wav, audio2.wav, audio3.wav etc and these play when you roll over the captions.
The issue I am having, is that when I Publish or Preview the project, sometimes the wrong audio file is playing upon rollover. Usually the first couple of caption/file combinations will work, so I get audio1.wav for caption1 and audio2.wav for caption2, but then say for captions 3,4,5,6 I am still getting audio1.wav playing!
I have doubled checked everything and the correct audio files are attached to the captions. And they all play correctly in Edit view.
I've just noticed this has happened again in a different Captivate 4 project, where I have about 6 lines of Text Animation, with an audio file for each text animation. They have been distributed across the timeline so that the text animations do not overlap, and yet I am still hearing imported audio files repeated.
If anyone can help to shed any light on this, i'd be grateful, as I'm totally stumped!
    thanks
    Lolly

Have you got the correct selection buttons at the bottom left of the Files panel enabled under Sort by:?

  • Captivate 7.  How can I distribute audio across all of the slides?

New to Captivate.  When I recorded the audio, I did not know to record it to all of the slides.  all the audio is on the first slide.  How can I distribute it across all of the video slides?

@parth vyas ??? Why do you recommend to record/import this as background audio? I suppose the user wants to distribute the audio over slides, and to control how much audio on each slide, placing the slide markers where he wants? No such control is possible with background audio, which is just meant as... background.
@[email protected] Welcome to the forum,
So you choose to record to one slide which means that the slide will have a duration that corresponds with the length of the recorded audio clip. And you now want to distribute it over more sides? Is that a correct interpretation of your question?
One possibility is Audio, Edit, Project. In the editing dialog box, zoom out so that you see the entire audio clip. At its end you'll see a marker with a flag Slide 2 (yellow), which you can drag to the left, and then the audio will be partially on the second slide. At the new end you'll have the marker with flag Slide 3...
Second possibility: the audio clip will be in the Library. You can delete the audio on the first slide (Audio accordion), shorten slide to its wanted duration; then import the audio clip from the Library and you'll get a dialog box that has the option to distribute the audio over slides.
Third possibility: if you have the creative cloud or CS6, you'll have the roundtripping functionality with Audition CS6 or CC if you choose that option in the Edit Audio (Project) dialog box, and you can drag the slide markers in Audition.

  • Adobe Captivate CS6 importing audio to the slide, worked correctly for 50 PowerPoint slides and the stopped working how do I resolve?

    Hi
I am working on a project as normal where I import a PowerPoint presentation to Captivate.  Then record the audio to the slide or if need be import the audio to the slide.  This has worked perfectly fine until today.
I went to the slide clicked on the option to import audio selected the audio and it imported to the library but not to the actual slide.
I tried doing this also from the menu bar.
Then I tried to drag and drop from the library with no luck.
I then deleted the audio file and tried the process over again.
Next I tried rebooting and starting over.
Still no luck.  What are my other options?  The file is a a mp3 that is 273 kb.
    Thank you

I'm relieved (if a little frustrated!) that others have the same issues, it makes me feel at least it's not just me! :-)
I am running Windows 7 64 bit Intel quad core processor 8Gb RAM if that helps Jim?
Another quick test shows I have exactly the same issues as shooternz and Ann Bens above at 7 & 8 respectively. An audio only or audio/video clip from Bin to SM and I can add markers on the fly perfectly. Audio/video from the timeline to SM works just the same. Audio only from the timeline will not work however.
I tried linking a video clip to my audio clip to see if that would allow me to add markers then unlink and remove the video... but when I opened that in SM the add marker button was greyed out and the keyboard shortcut (M) didn't work either!
    Curiouser and curiouser...

  • Audio across multiple slides

How do I get a song to continue to play across multiple slides but not during the whole presentation? For example, I want a song to start on slide #6 and stop at slide #12.

    JDT:
Tulse and you are BOTH right. The process is cumbersome and it is a pain. It also has been described in great detail in previous threads in this Forum. Just search on the keywords: music tracks, audio tracks, slides with music, etc.
CAVEAT: slideshows with recorded soundtracks will not play with synchronization when initiated as a Hyperlink; all Builds and Transitions will need to be created to begin either Automatically, or via Click.
This and many other audio-related shortcomings of Keynote have been lamented numerous times to the Keynote Feedback Forum. Hopefully, some future upgrade to Keynote will address these issues. Until then, all we can do is apply band-aid work-arounds.

  • Image does not appear when publishing...does it matter where you import audio?

I have an image on my slide and when I preview the slide it appears correctly, when I hit F10 to preview next 5 sldies or publish file it does not appear. I have imported audio to the slide not to an object. I am wondering if this matters? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you...

    Rod -
Cant really explain this one, but the visible check box was checked... I then unchecked it and checked it again, now it seems to be working.....
Weird, but at least it is working.

  • Import audio has no effect

I have Captivate 5 v5.0.1.624. I started a project as I usually do and in some slides I add a MP3 file by pressing F6, all worked perfectly.
However after adding some background music it seems that I cannot import MP3s anymore. When choosing Import audio I can select a MP3 file but then nothing happens. The audio is not added to the slide, and no error messages or warnings.
I tried to remove the background audio, restart Captivate, select different MP3 files, but nothing help, I still have the same problem.
I am completely stuck now, so any help is deeply appreciated.

Hello Paolo and welcome to the forum,
Could you try a small new project to test if you are able there to insert background audio and afterwards slide/object audio?
It is indeed possible that the CP-preferences have been corrupted, as suggested in the other answer, but it is also possible that just this file has somewhere a corrupt slide(s) or objects. That is why it could be useful to try a new project.

  • Importing Audio for ppt files in Captivate

How do you import audio and sync over multiple powerpoint slides? I'm using Captivate 6

    Welcome,
But this is a Captivate forum, not a PPT forum.  If you use Captivate only for converting ppt-slides maybe a plug-in would be a better idea (Adobe Presenter, iSpring).
Record the audio in Captivate, using the Audio menu. You'll get one audio clip for each slide. And then you use the timeline to synchronize the appearance of objects. But if you are importing PPT-slides that have already animations and timings, you have to know that in CP you end up with a movie file, a recording of the PPT-slide, so synchronizing with a movie is not that easy as you perhaps know. While recording the audio you can watch the movie play in CP.

  • Import Audio Files Into iPhoto

This is really a 2 part question.
I have been recording a few sound clips with a small digital pocket recorder that are family stories like "Remeber when Aunt Mildred lost her teeth?" etc. So far the only way I have found to get them into the Mac is as a Quick Time movie. It works. Naturally if there is a better way I'm interested. So the first question is: What are the ways to import small sound clips (Garage Band is my least favorite option).
On a regular QT movie, I can import them into iPhoto. But iPhoto refuses to import audio only movies. Having these in iPhoto would let me catalog these sound files in iPhoto along with the other photos and other digital camera short movies. So the second question is: How can I import sound clips into iPhoto?
By the way, setting "Open With" in the information viewer of a file [Command I] to open with iTunes get these clips into iTunes just fine. Why not a movie into iPhoto?
Has anybody else crossed this bidge before?

There are various apps that might help with working with these sound files. What format does your recorder use. Personally I use Audacity as a sound editor (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) it's Open Source. For capturing sound that's otherwise difficult to get I use Audio Hijack (http://www.rogueamoeba.com).
When QT saves the files they are saved as .mov files, and while the Finder calls them QucikTime Movies, they are not, and iPhoto will not import them unless they have a video element. Of course, they import perfectly into iTunes.
    Some suggested solutions:
Make slide shows of Aunt Mildred, and for a soundtrack use the story of unfortunate teeth, simply by pointing to the relevant track in iTunes.
Make a movie. If you have quicktime pro it's quite easy and fast to paste some pics of Aunt Mildred to the Soundtrack. It's a little slower - but you have more options - to do it with iMovie or with PhotoToMovie (www.http://www.lqgraphics.com)
But in any event, it's only by having a movie that iPhoto will wok with the files.

  • Error when importing audio

    Hi
I'm trying to import audio for a slide and as background, but the importing process seems to start and then I get a message saying "Unable to decode and import the selected WAV MP3 file. What could be the problem? Thanks

    Hi there
What format is the file you are importing? WAV, MP3 or something else?
Captivate will balk if it's WAV format and encoded as MP3. You will likely find you have to convert the file to a different format in order to be successful.
For starters I'd try using one of the files supplied with Captivate and see if they will import. If so, your Captivate install is probably fine and you are dealing with an encoding issue as described above. But if you can't get even the supplied files to insert properly, something is wrong in Captivate town and the problems are deeper than that. In that case, the link below may help.

  • Captivate 5 freezes up any time I try to record, edit, or import audio

I'm using Captivate 5 to create a CBT. When I try to record, edit, or import audio to the slide the program just freezes. When I end the program through my computer's task manager, it says that Captivate is waiting for a response from me. I can not click on anything after I select Audio > Record > Slide. After I reopen the Captivate I can access the Audio Settings with no problem however. Why is Captivate doing this and how can I fix it?

OK. My next guess would be that there is some corrupted element in your project that is preventing compiling from successfully completing.
Next thing to try is use a process of elimination to locate the offending object.
First try copying and pasting all slides from your problem project into a new blank project.  This will rename all objects in all slides and strip out any Advanced Actions, but if your issue is due to either of those, then it should immediately be able to compile.
If that doesn't work, try hiding all slides and just unhide them one at a time to see if it will compile.  If you go through your project a few slides at a time, you may eventually find the offending slide and then whittle it down to the offending object.

  • Keynote to iDVD: loss of audio in slide show and other probs

When I export my keynote straight to iDVD, the Keynotes play while in the working program. After I save an reopen the program to play, the Keynotes eventually crash iDVD. If I export them from Keynote as QT, although iI have the separate Soundtrack and .mov, when I import into iDVD the soundtrack plays while in the working iDVD program but after burning I lose the sound. I have the import audio checked. Any thoughts???
    Peace,
    Jim

I have had exaxctly the same problem and Apple Tech support has been unable to resolve the issue for me.
An additional problem is that although I have a perfectly timed presentation in Keynote with slide changes co-oresponding to the music whenever I try to burn it either in Ouicktime or iDVD both applications change the timing and Apple Tech Support has not provided a solution to the problem.
One thing that I discovered after trial and error is that you need to have all images in ther same format (jpeg or tiff) in order to avoid skips or gaps in the music. Apple support seemed unaware that that problem exists.
In many respects Keynote offers superior Flips, Page Turns,
Fades, etc to iMovie but it doesn't seem possible to retain them as well as the background music in any burning software that I have discovered.
