If I import audio books into the music section of itunes it lists the books as albums and all the chapters as tracks fine when I sync them to my ipod classic, but not if I import them as audiobooks and then sync them, any ideas please?

If you import the audiobook as an audiobook to your iTunes Library, it will be listed in the Books section of your Library. You may need to turn on Books in order to see them. If you cannot see the File/Edit... etc. menu, use CTRL B on your keyboard to make that menu bar appear. Then go to Edit/Preferences>Books and put a tick in the box.
But, if the imported audiobook shows up in the Music section of your iTunes Library, highglight the files (in iTunes) and select File/Get Info/Options/Media Kind>Audiobook. These files will now transfer to the Books section of iTunes.
Once on an iPod Classic, look under the Audiobooks menu. Again, you may need to change the settings in the Settings menus, in order to have the Audiobooks option shown on the Main Menu and/or the Music Menu.

  • Need to Import Audio Books at higher sample rates in iTunes 8

    Folks,
In iTunes 7, I could import audio books at 32k mono and they would sound good (after all, it's just someone reading - doesn't need stereo or high sample rate). However, in iTunes 8, for 32k the sound crackles and is distorted. Quality is OK at 64k mono but obviously now the files are twice as big. Am I right in slating the blame to iTunes 8? Is there some way I can use iTunes 7 encoding?

I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't try it. To get a non-crackled 32kb mono AAC you have to:
    - Select the AAC Encoder's "Custom..." from the drop-down
    - Change the (stereo) bit rate to 64kbps
    - Leave sample rate on auto
    - Change channels to mono
    - (And most importantly) keep the "optimize for voice" box UNchecked
I tested it several times with different audiobook CDs and settings and it seems that the voice optimization causes mono tracks of any bit rate to be garbled and crackle. Hope that helps!
(And I'm pretty sure OS 10.5.6 is out. Check your Software Update under the Apple menu.)

  • Importing audio books

As I import audio books into iTunes the order of the tracks is inverted, which obviously makes a book "impossible" to listen to.
Additionally, if the CD contains more than 9 tracks, the tracks are listed eg T12,T11, T10, T1, T2, T3....etc.
    1) How can I avoid these two problems?
    2) How do I get the Tracks into the AudioBooks playlist? Is that only possible with content purchased over the net?

but it seems like when I search on a topic I get
    more PC junk that Mac.
Click on 'more options' at the right side of this
page (just below 'Search Discussions') and restrict
your searches to the 'iTunes for Mac' category.
I was just joking around and knew that an advanced search would eliminate PC comments but being the APPLE web site I would think that APPLE comments would be teh default. Its a streach but it is almost like being Political Correct.
An excellent tutorial about importing audiobooks from
    CD is available here.
Thanks for the link. I will try that tongiht when I get home.
If you're searching for scripts, go to
    http://www.dougscripts.com.
Search for audiobook(s). A few scripts are available.
Installation instructions are included with every
    script.
Once you've read the tutorial mentioned before, you
    may not even need them.
    Hope this helps.

  • Import audio book to itunes but it won't sync to my ipod

I am at a complete loss. I have been importing audio books from the public library to itunes and then putting them on my ipod for months. All of a sudden the books won't sync to my ipod. Songs work ok, but my audio books don't. The little sync icon spins and the itunes screen says it is updating but it only lasts for a few seconds and the book is not on my ipod. I have done everything I can think of including restoring my ipod back to the original settings which lost everything. I don't know what else to do.

Might you find the answer here?

  • How do you import audio books so they are like the ones you buy from itunes

how do you import audio books so they are like the ones you buy from itunes?

There are a number of tools for merging the files into one. Personally I don't bother, but you'll find links on my page which describes how to manage Audiobooks on iPods.

At the present time, audiobooks are a one-time download and cannot be redownloaded again for free.  You can try contacting the iTunes store to see if they would grant you an exception: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

  • Playing Imported Audio Books - tracks won't play in order - why?

I import a lot of Audio Book CDs into my iPod Touch for convenience.
The problem is that although the tracks import in order, are correctly named and play in order from iTunes on the PC they almost never play in order on my IPod Touch, Ipod Classic or iPhone.
The Ipod just seems to shuffle playing order. I have disabled shuffle. The iPod is not automatically shuffling due to shaking.
How do I get the tracks to play in the correct orderr.

Here are some hints and guidelines for labeling and organizing audiobooks in iTunes.
Click on the first file of the audiobook imported files list. Press and hold down the “Shift” key while doing so. While you continue to hold this key down, press the down arrow on your keyboard repeatedly until all of the files (chapters) for the first audiobook are selected. At the last file of the first audiobook, click your left mouse button once. You will see all the files from the first to last file highlighted.
Go back into the “File” menu on iTunes and click on “Get Info.” This will bring up a menu of settings you can apply to the highlighted files. Click on the “Options” tab in the settings menu that appears. Make sure the media type is selected as “audiobook.” Next to “Remember position” the option of “Yes” should be indicated.
Next you’ll want to properly label the audiobook audio files. Click on the “Info” tab and fill out relevant information you want to include on the filenames for easy access. Under “album name” put the name of the book and under “artist name” put the name of the author.
Save the settings. Click on “Audiobooks” in the long left hand side menu in iTunes. This should be in the upper left hand area. You will see a list of your newly renamed audiobook files to the right hand side.
Right click on each file individually starting with the first file of the audiobook. Click “Get Info” and under the “Name” section enter “Chapter 01” and repeat this process for each track going in order changing the chapter number by one number higher each time. Chapters 1 through 9 must have a zero before the primary number such as Chapter 01 and Chapter 09.
When you are finished the audiobook will not only be in the proper track order which allows you to play the chapters in order, but the audiobook will be labeled and easy to find.

  • Importing Audio Book on Multiple CD's

I have imported an Audio Book comprising mutliple CD's (23 to be precise)into my iTunes Library. I added them to a play list in order i.e. Disk1 followed by Disk2 etc
However when I sync the playlist with my new series iPOD Classic , they are not in the correct order i.e. the list may be Disk1 followed by Disk10 then Disk2
How can I ensure that the sequence is maintained i.e the disks play in the correct order ?

iTunes isn't numerically aware. As far as the alphabetic characters are concerned it will go 1,10,11,...19,2,20,21,22,23,3,4...9. This can be sorted withing iTunes by adding some leading zeros.
With iTunes 8.x you have the option to tell iTunes to treat any audio file as an audiobook. Simply select the tracks, *Get Info.*, then on the options tab set *Media kind* to Audiobook. You can also set options to *Remember playback position* and *Skip when shuffling*.
Assuming, however, that the books consist of more than one file you may have problems if you plan to listen to them on an iPod. The Audiobooks feature was originally designed for books that have been stitched up into a single file and hasn't been updated to reflect the changes that make multi-track audiobooks easy to work with in iTunes. The iPod lists audoibooks by track name and takes no notice of album values or track numbers. There are tools for creating iPod-friendly audiobooks for which Aldo on Audiobooks is probably the best reference. Personally I don't bother with the extra effort and just have an "Audiobooks" playlist folder containing sub-folders for each author and within these playlists for each audiobook. Although I still mark the files as Audiobooks when it comes to the iPod I ignore its Audiobooks section and use my own playlists for access.

  • Audio-book CDs and shuffle play

    Hi there,
Some of the CDs I'm importing for my iPod are audio-books - except iTunes doesn't recognise them as such. It's annoying me because when I put my iPod on shuffle play I want just music albums not my audio-books. How can I fix this?
    Cheers

Select the file(s) you want to change to Audiobook in iTunes, then right-click and select 'Get Info'. In the 'Info' tab, set Genre to 'Audiobook'; iTunes and your iPod should now include your imported CD audiobooks in the Audiobooks smart playlist.
To skip audiobooks in shuffle mode, use 'Get Info' again and go to the 'Options' tab. Place a checkmark next to 'Skip When Shuffling' for each file. Note that the Options tab will not display if multiple files are selected, so you have to set the Skip option for each file individually.

  • Do audio books downloaded from itunes play on my ipod shuffle?

I bought a book for $17.95 and it says it downloaded it but it won't play. HELP!

If you cannot get your audio books to play on your 4th gen shuffle, hit play. While songs are playing hold down your VOICE OVER button until you hear names of songs and keep holding it. When you hear the title of your audio book or podcast you wish to hear release the VOICE OVER button. Hit PLAY one time. I spent 50+ minutes with apple support & they were finally able find out about the VOICE OVER button. Wish that was on the directions in the first place.

  • Are there step by step instructions to import Audio Book cds into iTunes 12 on Mac?

In iTunes 11, I could see the Audio book CD come up in the left hand column ABOVE my Playlists. I would simply create a new playlist, then click the CD icon, which would open, showing all the tracks in the right hand window. I could simply select all those tracks and then drag them to the left into the waiting Playlist, and it would burn. What is the process now? Thank you!

Ripped, yes, thank you. My window does not look the same: at the top, I can click Playlists and those show. The CD I've got in my drive used to show above that, including the title. Now I can click the CD icon to the left of the My Music, Playlists, Radio & iTunes store and then the window no longer shows the playlists, just the CD's track names and numbers. Can I have both windows open at once so I can drag to the playlists to rip?

  • Audio Books - Duplicate Track Names

Just wondering how best to download audio books to my iPod. These are on more than one CD but the track numbering restarts from Track 01 on each CD - so when I load 3 CDs worth I get 3 Track 01s. Is there a clever way to cope with this ?

Highlight ALL the tracks on a CD, click "Get Info" in teh File menu and put some identifier like CD 1 etc in the "Album Artist", Artist, or field of your choice in the Info tab's window... IF you feel industrious, you could actually rename EACH track like "CD1 track 1", etc.

  • Audio book stops periodically when using headphones - Iphone 5

Anyone having this problem on iPhone 5?  I have used 2 different headphones with the same result. Using Etymotic HF2 and HF3 with the same problem.
I am listening to an audio book and then it stops.  Pressing pause and play does not get it going, but if I unplug the headphones and plug back in, then I can hear the audio book again.  Then some minutes pass and the problem repeats.
Wondering if some OS bug or with my physical phone.

Though this may sound silly, blow in the headphone port.
Sounds like maybe some debri might be in there.
I doubt it'd be the headphones since two different ones are having the same issue,
Though if you want to be thorough, try a third pair if you have them around just for some overkill haha.
Other than that what I could suggest would be re-syncing the audio back into the phone or a backup/restore to see if it might be software.

  • How do I get my audio books purchased on iTunes onto my iPhone?

I have downloaded an audio book on iTunes, and I have searched my phone and I can't figure out how to listen to this book on my phone. When I look I can see the book is in my iTunes account on my computer. Is there a specific app I need for my phone? I have iBooks and the book is not there. I downloaded an app called Audible which is supposed to recognize my iTunes and it does not.
Help please. I'm not tech savvy and this is so frustrating.
    -J

Have you synced it from your computer's iTunes to your iPhone ? Audiobooks are a one-time only download from the store, so they need to synced or copied to any other devices or computer's that you want it on.
If not then it should be in the Books (Audiobooks if using OS X Mavericks on a Mac) part of your computer's iTunes library, and you should be able to sync it by connecting your phone and using the Books tab (in a similar way to how you use Music tab to sync music).
It should go into the Music app on your phone - when you have audiobooks on your phone you should get an Audiobooks option/tab in the Music app.
The iBooks app is just for ebooks, and the Audilbe app is for audiobooks that you buy direct from audible.com
