Import Catalog from Lightroom 4 to Lightroom 5

Hi,
I have just bought Lightroom 5 to replace my Lightroom 4. For one reason or another, it was cheaper for me to buy a new version, rather than an upgrade.
What is the best way to get Lightroom 5 to use my Catalogue from Lightroom 4? I am thinking, just open the catalogue (Lightroom 4 Catalog.lrcat). Or is there a better way.
Just one more thing, it seems a little slower than LR4 (the adjustment brush for example is not very responsive).
Thanks in anticipation

  • Import Catalog from PE7?

Does anyone know how to import a PE7 catalog into Lightroom 2.1? All it seems to want to do is import PE6 catalogs.

It should be able to import Catalog from DVD. It won't open a Catalog on Dvd, just like it won't on a network drive.

  • Import catalog from CD or DVD

To keep catalogs manageable I remove folders from my main file and export them to a catalog. This I then burn to DVD. Lightroom cannot open this file because it is a removable disk which cannot write changes to. Please can you add in a feature to import or load catalog from DVD?

  • Importing catalogs in Lightroom

How can I view photo folders in Lightroom on left side after I've imported a catalog? (I'm consolidating my catalogs)

Lightroom is notoriously fickle when trying to import direct from an attached camera. Have you got a card reader that you could use? If not, try copying the files from the camera to your hard drive, then try importing from there using the "Add" option.

  • What is the best way to import pictures from Lightroom 5 into FCP X

What is the  best way to transfer pictures from Lightroom 5 into Final Cut Pro X?

There is no one best way.  If, for instance, you want to be able to zoom into the picture with a Ken Burns effect then you may want to save out a very high res version that will be larger than your video resolution. Just use Lightroom to export a jpg file wherever you want it. You could export it into the Events folder and then choose not to copy it when you import it within FCPx. You could import the picture into iPhoto and then access it directly from within FCPx. Those are two simple, "regular" ways to get it into FCPx but if you are not going to Ken Burns the image by zooming into it and such you will want to crop it in Lightroom to the same size you will be using ie if you are making 720HD video then crop the image to that size and proportion before you export it from Lightroom.

  • Importing keywords from Lightroom

I plan on purchasing a new iMac with Adobe Aperture and would like to know if I can import my pictures from Lightroom on my PC into Aperture (on the iMac) with the keywording kept intact...
    Is this possible?

ONLY if you convert the images to DNG files prior to import. Aperture will read ratings and keywords in DMG (or TIFF or JPEG) files. It will not read them from XMP sidecar files (which IMO is pretty unfortunate).

  • Is the catalog from Lightroom 5 compatible with Lightroom 6? Also, can Lightroom CC 2015 and Lightroom 6 use the same catalog?

I am a current Lightroom 5.7 user - I have purchased and installed Lightroom 6, but have not launched the program yet - will LR 6 make changes to my LR 5 catalog, such that it cannot be used in LR5?
Also, can LR6 and LR CC 2015 share the same catalog?

Lightroom 6 will require an updated database are catalog format. When you first start Lightroom 6 after you have installed it, it will prompt you to upgrade your catalog. This will create a new copy of your catalog in the new format, leaving your Lightroom 5 catalog intact and usable if you still have Lightroom 5 installed. Lightroom 6 and Lightroom CC can use the same catalog. But they cannot share the same catalog because that catalog must be installed locally on both computers. The Lightroom catalog cannot be placed on a network drive.

  • Import catalog from PSE 8 to LR2

Just purchased LR2 and it won't recognize my PSE 8 catalog.  It found an outdated
PSE 6 catalog that it offered to import.  Is there a way to get my PSE 8 catalog imported?
LR 3 beta appears to read PSE 8 catalogs, can I read a LR 3 catalog with LR 2 if I download
the LR 3 beta and import the catalog using that?
Is there a way to export the PSE 8 catalog into a PSE 6 format?
I suppose I can go with the old PSE 6 catalog, that will be better than nothing, but still a lot
    of work I'd rather avoid.
    Thanks,
    Dan

At this time, LR2 does not import PSE7 or PSE8 catalogs.
Lightroom 3 can read PSE8 catalogs, but you can't convert that Lightroom 3 catalog to anything else.
So there is no way to convert your PSE8 catalog to Lightroom 2.
A partial workaround is to use John R Ellis's psedbtool to write metadata to your photo files, and then import the files into Lightroom 2. Some information will be lost under this method: stacks, albums, and any other information that cannot be stored in the photo files.

  • Import Catalogs from rev69 to rev74

    Hello everyone
    I'm testing a Catalog on a B1 PL12 environment with Rev74 of HANA
And I was wondering if after importing it I need to do something else
I have read the whole upgrade documentation but I didn't found anything specific that could answer this doubt.
Hope you'll be able to help me or walk me through some idea to test.

  • Importing Keywords from Lightroom/Elements?

Recently upgraded from Elements to Lightroom/CS5.  Keywords from elements useable in Lightroom but lightroom/Elements Keywords not showing up in Bridge.  Is there a way to import them.  If not, this really handcuffs the switch to Bridge.  Any and all help appreciated.

Lightroom and Elements use a database to store metadata.  Bridge and many other progams store the info on the image.
In Elements you want to click file/write keywords tag and properties info to photo.  Then you can read it in Bridge.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 - not importing images from Lightroom

I just got an upgrade from Creative Cloud. - Photoshop is the 1st program chosen for editing. It is not loading the images.
I selected it as my 2nd choice and it still is not loading the Lightroom images

When CC 2014 installed, it left PS CC - I uninstalled it. Apparently, CC2014 is some kind of additional application. The original is still needed. I deleted PS cc 2014 and reinstalled it. It put both in again. It now works..
    Hope this helps.
