Import CD but no track names

I-tunes does not permit me to view track names, artist info, etc...when I import a CD. Is there a patch out there that can fix this? any alternitives?

Before you look for a patch, have you enabled the function to retrieve track names from the internet in iTunes' Importing preferences?

  • Won't Import, Won't get Track Names, Won't leave the store alone

For some reason, even though I have it set to import a CD when I insert one, itunes won't import the CD unless I actually selected all of the tracks and drag them to the library. Once I do that, it either won't find the track names or says it can't, which I find very hard to believe.
Also it keeps trying to access the store even though I didn't set it to do so and it never actually accesses it even though it tries for quite a while.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
I've got it to work sometimes, it appears to be my Broadband internet connection which is at fault. Upon checking it out it appears to be dropping intermittentley but when it's up at the correct speeds, itunes works ok.
    Thanks.

  • Import "Audio CD", no track names

this is probably an easy problem but...
all of a sudden when i put one of my cds in to import it, itunes doesn't recognize it. no track names, album title, nothin... just 'audio cd'
help would save a lot of typing
    thanks

It used to be that when I created a custom playlist of my own music and burned a CD, the track names and name of the CD would appear (in Finder & iTunes) when that CD was inserted in another Mac. Now, all I get is "Audio CD" for a disc title and "Track n" for the tracks. At first, I thought the problem was in Leopard (burning a CD there and mounting it on a Tiger machine), but doing it in reverse also fails. What happened? This makes sending someone a non-commercial custom CD totally useless.

  • Crash while importing any but last track

Every time I import a CD it crashes right after it finishes importing a song and before it starts the next one. If I import only the last track then it's OK. Any idea?

I managed to remove the offending images by unticking the "Move referenced files to trash" box in the "Delete Master Images an all Versions" dialogue.
Still no reason for the crash

  • "Automatically retrieve CD track names from internet" not working

I'm about to begin re-ripping all my CDs (400+) which I haven't done since at least 14yrs ago in order to take advantage on newer/better formats. I was excited to see that iTunes can automate a lot of this process with the following two options:
    - When you insert a CD: (Import CD and Eject)
    - [ ] Automatically retrieve CD track names from internet
Found in the "Playback" settings of iTunes 10.1.1
However after inserting my first CD, I noticed it started to import without downloading the track names first. Obtaining track names manually is working for me because if I choose "Advanced -> Get track names" it accesses Gracenote DB and works fine.
It's just the automatic operation after inserting a CD that is not working. This causes me to have to:
    1) Insert CD
    2) Choose "Advanced -> Get track names"
    3) Click "Import CD"
    4) Eject
as opposed to the one supposedly promised step of "Insert CD" and have the other 3 things happen automatically.
I've tried deleting my iTunes plists in my ~/Library/Preferences/ folder but it still works the same.
    Any suggestions?

You can seach the Gracenote site directly. I don't know if that would help you decide which option you needed to use.

  • Itunes 12 track names not found and user not registered for online use

I recently downloaded itunes 12, and now when I try to import a CD the track names or CD information is not found.... So when I click on options to Get Track Names....it tells me user is not registered for online use... I am running windows 7.
    I have tried un-installing and re-installing - didn't work.
I have tried removing a file and then have it repaired... didn't work.
Any other ideas on how to solve this problem?

You could try deleting the entire %appdata%/Apple Computer folder or look for parallel files/folders in the C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local or C:\Users\<User>\AppData\LocalLow folders in case a corrupt file is persisting there.
Or it might not be the preference files after all...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Track names won't copy and can't be found

I burned an album (fleetwood mac) from my old laptop to a disk - all tracks are correctly named. I copy the disk to my new laptop with itunes and my new itouch but the track names won't copy and when I search for them they are not found on itunes. so instead of song titles, I have track 1, track 2, etc on my new laptop even though the cd I burned has the song names. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
    don

    Couple ways to do it.
Best way is burn a Data disc. All the info i part of the song file itself and will transfer when you copy the file.
Another way is after you burn the CD in your old computer, select the CD then go to menu Advanced -> *Submit CD track names*.
This will send the info to Gracenote and when you insert the CD on a different computer, iTunes will look it up and put in the correct info.

  • Im importing cds onto my itunes but they are coming up with no track names/artists etc, itunes is saying i have no internet connnection but im on my laptop and im online, can anyone help? ive never had this issues before? they are legit cds from HMV?

Im trying to import cds i got for xmas onto my itunes and they arecoming up with no artist/album cover or track names, when i click get track info it says i have not internet connection, but im on my windows laptop and can get on the internet, is there something i need to so in itunes tmake it rcognise the album details?

    Hey there lollypops21,
It sounds like you are connected to the internet otherwise, but iTunes is giving you this error message when trying to get info from the Gracenote database to retrieve your album info. I had a couple of articles I wanted to recommend you try. First this one named:
iTunes for Windows can't access the Internet if proxy settings are incorrect
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1490
You can always enter in the album information manually with this article if needed:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Edit song and CD information
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12360
    Customize song and CD info
You can edit information in the Info window to make it easier to find and sort items in your library. For example, you can:
Group individual movements on a classical CD into one work by indicating the name of the work (for example, “Piano concerto in A Minor, Op. 54”) in the Grouping field.
Group songs that are part of a compilation together in your library by clicking the Info button and selecting the “Part of a compilation” checkbox.
Identify the individual artists on a tribute album in the Artist field, and type “various” in the Album Artist field.
Create your own genre category by clicking Info and typing the category in the Genre field.
Change the order in which tracks on a CD play by changing the numbers in the Track Number fields.
Create a Smart Playlist that includes only songs that are just the right speed for your workout by typing the number of beats per minute in the BPM field. For instructions, see Create a Smart Playlist.
Identify a movie as a music video (click the Options button, and choose Music Video from the Media Kind pop-up menu).
Identify an item that you imported from a CD as an audiobook, so it appears under Audiobooks instead of Music (click the Options button and choose Audiobook from the Media Kind pop-up menu). If you do this, iTunes also remembers your place in the audiobook.
Enter custom sorting criteria for an item. Select the item, choose File > Get Info, click Sorting, and enter the custom text.
iTunes retrieves CD information from the Gracenote media database. For more information, visit the Gracenote website.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Able to import track names quickly but unable to import music from CD

When I try to import a music CD The tracks are imported quickly but no music is imported. When I try to play the tracks the speaker icon moves rapidly from one song to the next without playing. When I go to my library and try to play a song from the CD it randomly plays a song from my library. I have sucessfully transfered my library from my old XP computer to my new Vista computer and initally had no problems. I believe the problem started when I updated iTunes, now 7.6. I have been on the forum for hours and have seen several other postings with the same problem but no solutions. Please help.

  • ITunes recognises (and plays) CDs, asks if I'd like to import it but when I confirm, error message appears: 'Error occurred while converting the file track name . The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.'  Fix?

This problem seems to affect all CDs.  I've tried selecting and deselecting the 'error correction' box on the import settings but this makes no difference.  I'm running W7 Home Premium with SP1.  iTunes Version is: 11.1.3.8  Diagnostics confirms all CD/DVD Drive tests are successful.
As I say, iTunes will play the CD without ny problem.  Has anyone experienced this and what's the fix?

Thank you so much! I was in the same situation (iTunes library stored on external hard disk). Strangely, iTunes knew where my music was stored (i.e. if I clicked a song it would link to the library location and play with no problems). But in the "Advanced" settings, the location of my iTunes Library was blank. So I just pointed to the correct location and now everything is working OK! Thanks again.

  • Song names imported as "artist - track name" instead of "track name"

When I add a folder to my library (a folder which contains MP3 files which all contain complete ID3 tags), about 50% of the song names get imported as "artist - track name" instead of just "track name". If I click on any track which was imported like this, and right-click and select "get info", the track name shows up correctly in the dialog box, and it suddenly fixes the display on the listing (without me doing anything).
I could fix each song by clicking "get info", but I would have to do this for all my songs, which would take far too long. Is there any way to get iTunes to import these track names correctly? Or is there a way to refresh the listing, and have iTunes re-read the ID3 tags on the MP3 files?

To get the track names etc., when importing a CD, you have to be connected to the Internet.
    This article explains why.
To get the info later, select all tracks (with the generic track names) of an album and choose 'Get CD Track Names' from the Advanced menu in the menubar.
Very often the correct information will show up.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes 11.4.0.18 will not get track names for imported mp3 albums.

I'm new to Apple (Windows 7 i7 Sandy Bridge processor 16GB ram) and recently got an iPod touch 5g 64GB and I am trying to figure out iTunes.  I have GB's of albums that I have collected over the years in mp3 format.  When I imported them to iTunes via...File>Add Folder to Library...It imported all of my albums, but, almost NONE of the tracks are in order and they are "scattered" for lack of a better word.  Some are with the albums they are supposed to be with, but MOST made their own names and albums.  Getting the tracks with the albums I fixed by doing it manually.  Getting the tracks in order in the albums...HELP.  I tried to "Get Track Names", but iTunes comes back with "iTunes cannot get CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes.  To allow iTunes to look for CD track names for this song, import the song again using iTunes."????  I'm assuming that iTunes will only get the track names if they are imported from CD only and not mp3?  If I have to manually enter all of the information in myself....God help me...just leave it unorganized???

When iTunes imports a CD it records the information used to look up the album in the Gracenotes database. When you add your tracks into a different library that data is no longer available. See Grouping tracks into albums for some tips on organizing iTunes content.

  • Ripping/Importing CDs imports track names, not actual file

First off, I haven't had this problem but I have had a number of people telling me about this.
I have been told, that for some odd reason, on some computers (windows only so far), when someone tries to rip a CD it takes the track names across into the library, and not the actual file.
Anyway... to keep it short and sweet, here is what I have tried (to no avail):
    - re-installed iTunes
    - changed all settings to those of a computer that rips the same CD perfectly
    - updated ipod (not necessary but anyway)
    - checked disk space (80GB free)
    - checked memory (512MB RAM)
    - changed directory for where to save files
If someone could please give me their 2 cents worth (or 1 cent), Ill be a real happy camper.

    hi werbZA!
... i'm afraid this is more in the 1 cent category.
okay, there are a few things worth checking on in this document (we should at least get them off the table):
