Import clip alwais unsupported format

I'm using tryal period of CS 5.5 on my Windows 7 64bit PC. When I import a clip alwais get "file unsupported or damaged", file format is MJPEG or mp4 that I see perfectly with media player.
The only file type that works is MPEG2!
I have uninstalled, cleaned with adobe_creative_suite_cleaner_tool and reinstalled premiere pro but same result.
To make another test I've installed the tryal of CS 5.5 on a Virtual Machine with Windows 7 64bit just installed, and here the import of MJPEG or MP4 work's fine.
I don't want to format HD and reinstall SO only to test last version of Premiere Pro, and using it in a virtual machine is impossible.
How can I do?

For the MJPEG material, it appears that you either do not have the MJPEG CODEC on your system, or the one that you have, is not one that PrPro can use. This ARTICLE will give you some tips. Also, some camera mfgrs. love to tweak existing CODEC's, like MJPEG. When they do, it is usually best to install that particular flavor of MJPEG CODEC, and one is usually on the supplied DVD. Now, it might be a stand-alone install, might be installed with the camera's driver, or perhaps installed with a viewer/editor program on that disc.
For the MP4, it sounds like you do not have an H.264 CODEC, or one that PrPro can use. One source of an H.264 is through the installation of a recent version of Apple's QT Player. Do you have QT Player installed? If so, what version is it? There are also other sources for H.264 CODEC's, and some users feel they are often better than Apple's. I would Google H.264 CODEC and investigate those. Many will be free, and some will be commercial.
As for a player doing a good job, it could be that the player has the necessary CODEC's built in. Two examples would be VLC Player, or MediaPlayer Classic HC, or it could be that you have a version of the necessary CODEC installed, and the player can access and use it, but PrPro cannot. Imported DNG labeled 'unsupported format'

I converted some RAW files from a Fujifilm S100fs camera into DNG files using the Adobe DNG Converter, and imported them into Aperture. Each one was treated as an unsupported file by Aperture. Why?, since the Aperture user manual states that DNG files are one of the types that can be successfuly edited by Aperture.

With these, two selected RAW files from the Fuji S100fs were imported, but the individual images had the tag Unsupported File Type (or words to that effect) and could not be adjusted nor viewed.
I then imported the same DNG files into LR3 without any problem.
I then selected two raw files from a Canon G11, converted them using the same prefs, and imported them into Aperture 3 with no problem.
So the problem seems peculiar to files from the Fuji camera, or perhaps all .RAF files (raw format from Fujifilm).

Can't open sequences or import clips - File format not supported

We have an iMac workstation here running Premiere that will not open projects or import clips. Here's the sequence of events that led to this:
1. Premiere was locking up on the splash screen whenever it got to "ImporterQuicktime.bundle". I tried trashing preferences and launching with plug-ins disabled and received the same freeze. Based on forum recommendations I removed "ImporterQuicktime.bundle" and "ExporterQuickTimeHost.bundle" from the plug-ins folder inside the package. The software launched fine - but none of the Quicktime files in the project were working. So I then took copies of the above 2 files from the iMac next to this one, with the exact same configuration, and pasted them into the plug-ins folder. Since then - launching the software has generated the below errors.
2. Attempting to open any project gives a long error that starts as: The preset used by one or more sequences in this project requires third-party components that could not be located.
3. Starting a new project and attempting to drag any Quicktime ProRes media into the project gives the error: File Format not supported.
I have trashed the preferences, re-installed the Pro Apps Quicktime Codecs, de-authorized the computer and re-authorized it, and upgraded Adobe Premiere from 7.0 to 7.2. None of which fixed the issue.
I'm thinking about trying a complete re-install of Premiere next. Any other ideas?
Here's the details:
Premiere Pro CC 7.2
Mac OS 10.8.5
iMac late 2012 model, 32Gb RAM, 2Gb video card

I seem to have figured out a work around. It appears the 7.2 upgrade is making it so that our Quicktime XDCAM 422 clips are not properly recognized. Clips both currently in a project and new clip imports do not work. Attempting to import clips using this codec generates the error message: Unsupported format or damaged file. This has happened on both an iMac system running 10.8.5 OS and a Macbook Pro running 10.9.1 OS - both of which were upgraded to Premiere 7.2. In both cases - uninstalling and re-installing Premiere resolved the issue.

AVCHD Import Error - Unsupported Format

Hi All,
Just wanted to share an experience that might help others. My cameras are HDV, but I sometimes rent a Sony AX-2000 and have had excellent results importing and using its .mts files in Premiere CS6.
I filled several SDHC cards over the weekend and was transferring them to my editing hard drive, and at the same time was setting up new projects for the clips. I started importing clips from cards that had already been transferred, then accidentally tried to Import a clip using Media Browser while the data was still being transferred. The clip threw an error of "Damaged or Unsupported Format". I quickly realized my error, waited for transfer to complete, but still got the same error when I tried to import again. Hmm. Maybe Premiere is still thinking the clip is broken from before? So I created a NEW PROJECT and tried importing clip again, but same error! I then tried to import the clip direct from the SDHC card and that worked fine, so at least I knew the original clip was fine.
I then figured that even though I started an entirely new Project that Premiere still had its mind made up that THAT FILE in THAT FOLDER was no good, based on "previous experience". It just couldn't get past that. So I deleted the "Private" folder (containing card data) from my drive, and again copied that material over from the memory card to hard drive. And it STILL would not import!! I finally got wise and create a new "Video" folder on my drive, and moved "Private" into that, so that any linkage to previous attempts would be broken since the file path was changed, and sure enough, it imported just fine!!
So Premiere must keep some sort of database based on metadata of clips you import and once it gets the notion that something is wrong with a clip, it clings to that belief tenaciously. By changing the folder name, Premiere was fooled into thinking it was an entirely different set of clips and it worked fine then.

It's called the Media Cache Database. This is a list of every file that PP has ever seen. You can clear this out by going to Edit>Preferences>Media... and clicking Clean.

"File Import Failure Unsupported format or damaged file" in CS6 but fine in CS5.5

Hello All.
Recording in Pal DV AVI from Sony Z5U with MRC1K compact flash recorder.
Imported files to computer using the Sony utility, and also tried dragging and dropping.
Some files import to Premiere Pro CS6.03, but others give "File Import Failure: Unsupported format or damaged file,".
The files that do import show up as 4:3 and I have to modify / interpret footage to get them to show as 16:9,
However, these same files play back just fine in Windows Media Player.
Intriguingly these files import just fine to Premiere Pro CS5.5, and also show up correctly as 16:9.
I can't figure out why some files import into CS6 and others don't....
Anyone else seen this kind of behavior?
(Normally I record in HDV and I've never had problems importing from MRC1K into Premiere, but the client specifically requested DV files for their ease of editing...)

PS When I use the DV recoverer utility on these files they import just fine into CS6....

Thanks, your comments looked correct but did not solve my problem. You may be interested to know after much testing and research, I was able to ascertain that some of the camera's AVCHD settings iMovie cannot see at all (only some, which made it even harder to figure out!). Plus, if you have recorded movie clips in more than one format to the memory card (MP4 or any one of the AVCHD's), iMovie cannot see any of the AVCHD's.
Bottom line - forgo the benefits of AVCHD on the Sony NEX-5N and just use MP4 until Apple makes it easier.

"Unsupported format" with imported DNGs from Fujifilm E900 RAW files

When I import a DNG generated by Adobe DNG Converter 5.1 from a Fujifilm E900 RAW file, I get the dreaded "unsupported format" label. I thought Aperture 2.x was supposed to handle DNGs created from unsupported RAW formats. There was lots of hoopla around this when Aperture 2 was released. Now it doesn't work?
I'd really like to buy an E900, but not if I can't get the RAW images into Aperture.
Anyone got a workaround?

Thanks, Guys. I've tried doing the DNG conversions as both mosaic and linear, and neither works. Guess Aperture just doesn't like this camera. It's a shame, as the E900 is one of the few digicams that shoots RAW, and the only one available for under $200. Still, I don't want to have to go back to ACR to do my RAW conversions. Guess I'll have to wait for the price on the Panasonic DMC-LX3 to come down.

I am getting an unsupported format error when trying to import the.aaf file.

When I select File > Import > File, and then select my .aaf file, nothing happens.
When I select File > Import > Pro After Effects and then select my .aaf file, it imports the files, then I get an unsupported format error for .mov files.
Help!

Which video in the tutorial does this step apply to (i.e. importing the AAF file)? Are you importing from the sample files that accompany the tutorial? Finally, can you post a screen shot of the error message you're getting?
Also, please confirm which version of After Effects you're running, as well as the operating system.

Unsupported format or damaged file with .psd import

I have several PSD files I am importing into Premiere Pro CS4 and with one I am receiving this error message, "Unsupported format or damaged file."
The file opens in Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator but not in Premiere. I tried it using the import command as well as dragging and dropping but I get the error both ways. I even tried resaving it in photoshop as a PSD file under a different name but still no luck. Other PSD files that were created the same way and from similar source materials are importing fine. The file was from originally an EPS file and was exported from Illustrator as a PSD.
Any ideas what is going on?

Glad that you found that.
For Video, the PSD's need to be RGB, and not CMYK or Intexed Color. They need to be 8-bit. Paths can cause issues, though not always, and the same for Smart Objects (some work fine, and others muck things up???). Often, tiny pixel counts in a Layer (think something very small, like a logo, in a much larger Image), can cause issues.

Unsupported format or damaged file? Importing Avid AAF files into PPro 4.1

I have been trying all day to import Avid aaf into Premiere Pro 4.1.0. I went to Avid and Adobe forums and sites and thought I had it figured out by following the video tutorial on Adobe TV - "Open Workflows Between Avid and Adobe CS4" His Avid was running on a Mac on the tutorial. I believe I followed it exactly but I get an "Unsupported Format or Damaged File" message. I run ver.4.1.0 on a WINDOWS XP machine.
sSD 720x486 drop frame - no HD. I am new to Adobe and Pro but I am loving After Effects and would love to transfer some of my old Avid footage over. Here is what I have been doing:
In Avid
I Select sequence on timeline
File
Export As
Save In: Desktop
I Create an .aaf file name
Export Setting: Link Audio and Video
Options - Export As: AAF
Export Method: Link to (Don't Export) Media - including all Video and Audio Tracks
Save then Save
In Premiere I double click in project bin
Import - .aaf file from desktop - The project and files come up - The Audio plays fine but in program monitor a red box has " Media Offline"
Status: Offline Importer Can't Open
On the new project file I right click - Link Media - Find my Avid media on my EXTERNAL Avid media drive
Avid Media - Avid Media Files - MXF - 1- Find file by "Display Only Exact Name Matches" -
Click on the correct .MXF file to link to then - Select - and get the "Unsupported Format or Damaged File" message.
This is my first post and I usually can figure things out but I am stumped. If anyone has had this come up or has any input for me I would be deeply appreciative. Thank you in advance.

For what its worth. I shot some DV 720x480 in 4:3 and 16:9 with my little DV camera and imported footage into my Avid MC. I repeated my earlier - posted steps and when I created and opened up the project in Ppro, this time not only did the sequence and files open up but my footage was on the timeline and I was able to play it without having to link to my Avid Media files!
When I tried before, all my footage was originated on BetaSP and DigiBeta at NTSC 720x486. Cannot Ppro bring in NTSC 720x486 or does it have to be NTSC DV 720x480
As I mentioned before I am a newbie to Ppro. When I created a new project and brought my 16:9 footage in, the source monitor is 16:9 but my sequence is in 4:3. In the Program Monitor I can click and hold the frame and move the 16:9 around within the 4:3 frame. Why is it not letting me see the full 16:9 frame. I created the project in 16:9. Any suggestions? XMLFormService Error importing image. Unsupported image format.

I'm getting the following error when trying to import an image into a form:
2010-10-04 08:56:35,717 WARN [com.adobe.document.XMLFormService] ALC-XTG-017-936: [8392] Error importing image. Unsupported image format.
2010-10-04 08:56:35,717 WARN [com.adobe.document.XMLFormService] ALC-XTG-029-461: [8392] XFAImageService: Image cannot be resolved for node: ImageField1.
The strange thing is that it works fine on our production server, yet it fails in development. I've restarted jboss, flushed tmp, work, and data, replaced the images, but still nothing. The image that won't load is a 1 pixel by 1 pixel JPG image, so it's not like it could be too large or anything.
Please help if you have any insight into this problem.

So when I went to get the image, it wouldn't load in the Web browser, and it looks like that was the problem. I mentioned that I had tried changing the image. I was actually changing a field in the database that says which image to retrieve. I'm wondering if maybe I was changing the wrong record or maybe my query browser wasn't updating the DB correctly. I can't find the record I was using last week when I reported the issue, but either way, I'm glad it's working now.

Long Capture unsupported format damaged file

Im capturing long videos and from time to time, when i hit the stop button for end the capture proccess, i dont get the window asking for the final filename. The main capture window stays still some time and then it shows itself as ready to capture again as if i putted the filename. The thing is the file is created, but when i try to import it it says damaged or unsupported format. Some other times (the most) this filename window does apperar and when i define the name and hit ok, i can see in Finder that the file that was beeing created generates a thumb, that de "corrupt" file doesnt ever get to generate because i think its not "closed", but i dont understand the inner proccess so its just a guess.
So the thing is, is there a way to fix this file? its 2hr capturing and its not the first time it happens, so id be very grateful if you can help me.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same issue and really need to try and repair my files. I captured 2 files each over 200 GB in HD 720p, jpg, mov file using an ultrastudio mini recorder via thunderbolt on a mac. The capture went perfect until the end. On one the box to name the file never appeared. On the other I named the file. But both cannot be opened by Adobe Premiere, Qucktime, VLC, or any other program I've tried. The shorter test clips I did beforehand worked fine. Any thoughts? Did you get this figured out?

I have took clip with sound only in my DXCAM, While import it to my project I get the following erroe message:
"Unsupported format or damaged file" I can hear the clip in the camera and also in the application received with the camera
XDCAM EX ClipBrowser V2.6, Of course I have installed the update 3.2.0for XDCAM.
Does any one can have any idea how to solve it?

Sorry I could not check it well, I have Insalled again CS3 after formatting the comuter.
Now I start working more with this kind of files and to my sorrow despie the SC3 is updated
I get again the same error message.

Raw PCM or Unsupported Format

I am trying to import some .mp3 songs into Audition.
When I use the shortcut import button, nothing happens.
When I'm in multitrack view, I use
- Insert>Audio.
- I highlight the track I want to import
- In the "Show File Information" box it says "Raw PCM or Unsupported Format".
- I click open
- A box comes up saying
Could not open file:
blah blah blah.mp3
The selected file does not appear to be a supported file type.
To attempt to open this file and interpret it as audio data, select PCMRaw Data as the File Type, enter an asterik (*) in the File Name field and click Open to display all files.
Any ideas about how to fix this so I can import these .mp3 files into Audition?

Tried the same process in edit mode (both shortcut and File>open) but I'm still getting the same message.
I tried changing the file extension to .wav but still got the same message.
I tried changing the file extension to .pcm and only got 30 seconds of white noise (it should be a 3 minute clip).
I downloaded a crappy mp3 to wav converter off the net but that only changed the file to half a second of white noise.

I'm trying to log and transfer from a pro res file (HQ) final cut s7 is telling me it is an unsupported format. What the?

i have a 58 min pro res hq file that is a .mov. it is in a folder on my hdd. i'm trying to syn rushes by logging and transferring clips from this file but i cannot bring the said file into log and transfer. final cut putsup a window that tells me the file is in an unsupported format. and to bring in a file with a supported pathway. this i do not understand. any simple explanation as to what i'm missing?

Thanks meg. I'm trying not to have to sync all the rushes in a timeline. All rushes are in the one 58 min prores file. I wanted to, I guess, log and capture the rushes as clips that I logg in the log and transfer winnow and that it would then log and sort out the material as proxy files. I'm guessing I'm just being lazy or it can't be done. Thanks for the reply but I was looking for a differentbway round than a straight import of the whole file.
