Import Collections From LR3 To LR4

Is there a simple way to import any collections from LR3 to LR4?  The import function of LR4 doesn't me see the collections so would I have to go back and grab all my "Picks" from the folders and re-create a collection?

The normal procedure is to upgrade your complete LR3 catalog to LR4, which will of course include all your collections.

  • Import Keywords From LR3 to LR4.

I have just upgraded from LR3 to LR4.  My LR3 keywords are not showing up in LR4.  Found Import Keywords dialog but cannot find the folder/file with the LR3 keywords in it.  Is there a folder/file name I can search for to locate LR3 keywords?
    Thanks.

Importing files is not how this is done.
You want to open PSE4, then select File->Open and point to your LR3 catalog. This will upgrade the PSE3 catalog to PSE4, and all your photos will have all their keywords and other metadata.

  • How To import collections from Bridge cs6 To Bridge CC

How To import collection from Bridge cs6 To Bridge CC??
    thx

How To import collection from Bridge cs6 To Bridge CC??
A collection is a bunch of aliases to the original files in their original place. If you have upgraded to CC on the same machine you can use the same collection, on a different machine it will possible not find the correct location again.
On a Mac the path for the saved collections is : User / library/ application Support / Adobe/ BridgeCS6 / collections. Inhere are the saved collections showing the names you gave them. You can copy these collection files to the same location in Bridge CC.
If you have a different machine you best first choose the collection and add a keyword with the name of the collection to all the files in this particular collection so you can use the find command to easily recreate the collection on your new machine.
Maybe someone with more knowledge of Windows can show you the correct path but it should be something similar as on a Mac.

  • Moving presets from lr3 to lr4

I upgraded from lr3 to lr4.4. 3rd party develop presets [datacolor spydercheckr] are showing up in lr3, not lr4. how do I move and redirect these presets from 3 to 4?

You can download the 30 day trial version and install it. But when it comes time to purchase there will not be any way for you to purchase Lightroom 4. Adobe only sells the current version. That download is provided primarily to enable users of the older version to download if they have a computer crash or purchase a new computer.

  • Upgrading from LR3 to LR4?

Is there a difference upgrading via download or disc when going from from LR3 to LR4? I have heard people mention that it is better to download the upgrade and enter your registration code from your retail packaging later ?

As mentioned above the d/load will be the current release whereas the disk version will be 4.0 and need updating.
There are many differences between Lr3 and 4 though including catalogs (Lr3 catalogs will have a copy made and upgraded) and processing (a new process version) which can alter image appearance of existing files. So don't update the process version on existing files before you have experimented - I do it only when reviewing a file if I feel I can work it better with the new version, not updating the whole lot at once!!

  • PSM: Import collection from existing iTunes U site?

When our group began migrating content from our original iTunes U site to iTunes U Public Site Manager, there was a Collection option available: Import collection from existing iTunes U site.
This option has now disappeared... and has caused a bit of discomfort for us, as there is still content on our original iTunes U site that must be migrated.
    Thoughts? Advice? Help?
    Thanks.

    Greetings Brian;
I'm sorry to hear about you migration issue.  Depending on the amount of content that remains in the old iTunes U environment, one option would be to download that content and then create a new Collection in the new Public Site Manager and upload your content again.  Not ideal I know, but it's a "less than ideal" workaournd.
    All the best...

  • Question regarding upgrading from LR3 to LR4

I currently have Lightroom 3 installed on my PC and want to upgrade to Lightroom 4.
I have not had Lightroom 3 all that long and not too many files are there. I have two questions:
    1. Is it better to uninstall Lightroom 3 and then install a fresh copy of Lightroom 4 or could I just upgrade the current Lightroom 3 to Lightroom 4.
I know I have heard in the past is is usually better to to a fresh install. As I have only had Lightoom 3 for a few months and few files I wondered if
this was the way to go or would an upgrade be ok.
    2. I actually have the full version of Lightroom 4 (as opposed to an upgrade edition). Luckily for me, my father-in-law purchased it but turned out it was
not what he wanted so he gave it to me. Can I use this full version to upgrade (if that is the solution to my first question)? I  know I can use it to do a fresh install.
Also, if you can recommend any links to directions or video tutorials on migrating from LR3 to LR4 that would be great as I am very new to Lightroom.
    Thanks for the advice.

Yes, it is very easy, as your existing LR3 installation will not interfere with the new LR4 installation.
    Just download LR4.3 from Adobe.
Then start it, and go for File-Open catalog, and point to your exsiting LR3-catalog. The program will tell you that it needs to upgrade the catalog, which you confirm. This will create a new version-LR4 of your latest LR3-catalog.
You might not like the name automatically chosen by this upgrade process, so close LR4 and use Windows Explorer to rename it into something meaningful like "LR4 Master Catalaog" or some such. Then double-click on it and work from there.
Your previous images will show an exlamation mark in develop module for LR3's old process version 2010. Do not do anything on a batch basis for it, as this is not needed.
Only for images, for which you do not like your previous LR3-develop results so much, click on the exclamation mark and upgrade it to LR4's process version 2012, and manually tweak from there.

  • How do I import collections from PE version 5 to PE version 10

Have changed my computer and installed the latest version of PE. I have saved the collection structure in PE v.5 as an XML file and imported this into V10 but this only imports the collection headings and NOT the photos associated with the collections.
Can somebody please advise me how I can transfer my photo collections from v.5 to v.10?

    Hi Steve,
This is how it's supposed to work. Exporting albums into an XML only keep record of albums, cetagories and proper heirarchy we want to move between the catalogs/computers.
If you want to move all the photographs with albums from one machine to other, I would recommend to look at following articles before you decide to do anything -

  • Upgrade from LR3 to LR4

    Hi,
I have a few questions before I install and migrate my LR3 Catalog to LR4.
Is there an Adobe Read Me document that discusses the do's and don'ts?
Will my settings for LR3 transfer to LR4? Currently my "Lightroom Settings" is saved with my LR3 Catalog.
Will LR4 save a new LR4 Catalog based on the previous LR3 version?
Finally, can I run both programs, LR3 and LR4 on the same Mac OS X 10.7.2? I plan to do this just for the next few months and LR3 Catalog will not point to the same photos as LR4.
Thanks so much for your help.

    Ian,
Thanks, yes I started to watch Ms. Kost videos, they are always very helpful. I also looked over the read me, http://www.adobe.com/support/lightroom/read_me/Lightroom4_Readme.pdf
Just a follow, can I keep and run both LR3 and LR4 on the same Mac? They will point to two different catalogs and photo folders. I want to run a couple of comparisons.
    Thanks again,

    Upgrade Notes
  To update your Lightroom 1, Lightroom 2 or Lightroom 3 catalog simply launch Lightroom 4 and you will be able to select and upgrade your previous Lightroom catalog.
  The Lightroom 4 catalog upgrade process does not erase or remove your previous Lightroom catalogs. If you wish to try the Lightroom 4 30-day trial by upgrading your existing catalog, you may always return to earlier versions of Lightroom and continue using your previous catalog.
o NOTE: Any changes or work completed in your catalog once it has been upgraded to work with Lightroom 4 will not be available in previous versions of Lightroom.
o NOTE: The upgrade process will modify the image preview information of an upgraded catalog.(This information is stored in the .lrdata file that is located adjacent to a catalog file in the file system) Returning to a previous version of Lightroom will require that the previews be re-rendered. This can be a lengthy process for those with hundreds of thousands of images.
  Upgrading a Library from Photoshop Elements 6, Photoshop Elements 7, Photoshop Elements 8, Photoshop Elements 9, or Photoshop Elements 10 for Windows requires that Photoshop Elements be installed on the computer at the time of upgrade.
  Upgrading a Library from Photoshop Elements 9 or Photoshop Elements 10 for Mac requires that Photoshop Elements be installed on the computer at the time of upgrade.
  Lightroom 4 Beta catalogs may be upgraded using the same methods available for Lightroom 1, Lightroom 2 or Lightroom 3 catalogs.
  If you attempt to upgrade the same Lightroom catalog more than once, Lightroom will inform you of the location of the previously upgraded catalog.

  • Moving a single catalogue from LR3 to LR4

    Hi -
For some reason, one of the catalogues in my library did not transfer when I upgraded from LR 3 to LR 4. The metadata date shown in LR 3 suggests the files were imported two days before I made the upgrade, so I'm pretty sure I didn't import the images to LR 3 on autopilot having already installed LR 4.
How can I move this catalogue into LR 4, along with all the editing I did to the files in LR 3.
I've searched all the forums but they only seem to deal with updating the entire catalogue and, like I said, everything else seems to have moved over fine (I did have to make the upgrade quite late at night though and have no recollection of any of the steps involved!).
Any help in moving the catalogue along with the adjustments I've made would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks...

Thanks - I had seen that in another thread (posted by you, I think) but assumed that would reset LR4 to the LR3 library only (ie then not include work done on images imported into LR4).
But no, that's it all sorted.
    Thanks again.

  • Import collections from Bridge CS5 to CS6

    Hi
I have a system of collections organized in Bridge CS5 that I would like to continue having in CS6. I see a handful of CS5 preferences being imported as I installed CS6, but not the collections. Any tricks to this?

I have copied the Collections folder from Bridge CS5 to CS6 (in Snow Leopard).
The images are all there, but the order has changed.
Is there a better way to do this?
I can't open both versions of Bridge at the same time in order to copy the proper order....
I suppose i could print screenshots of the CS5 collection and then correct it in CS6.
There must be a better way! This could take hours.

  • Import Collection from an other catalog.

    Hello from Germany,
I am using 2 catalogs in LR 1.1. Now I would like to import a collection I made in catalog 1 to catalog 2. Any chance or tricks to do so?

    Hello Lee,
I just did so. It works perfectly. What great possibilities are in this workaround...

  • How do I upgrade from LR3 to LR4 on both my MAC and my PC?

I have LR3 installed on my PC desktop and my MAcbook Pro. How can I download and upgrade both without buying it twice?

As long as you do not run both LR versions at the same time the Adobe license allows you to intall it on 2 machines.
You need 1 download only, as the program is identical on Windows and on Mac.
It is sufficient to let one of the machiens do the actual upgrad work and copy the reults over to the other.
From then on you have the usual challenge of keeping overlapping catalogs apart and knowing exactly, which portion is newer on which one, so you can export this portion as a catalog and import it into the other.
But I assume you have figured this out in a good workflow for you?

  • Requirements for upgrading from LR3 to LR4
