Import Contacts into Group

1st of all, besides paying for MobileMe, there isn't any way to sync Address Book across Macs, is there? I will be upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard any day now... any pleasant surprises in this regard?
So assuming no to my above questions, is there a way to import contacts into a certain group? I use groups in Address Book like different phone books to organize contacts. I need to import & merge a group on 1 Mac to another. Right now when I do this, it puts them in All. This means I would have to search the newly imported contacts one by one and manually drop them into the group.

How do you get the vCards into their own folder when importing? I just noticed there is a Group called Last Import that has my import test contacts in it. Looks like I can shift click all those contacts & drag them into the group.
Now if I had 2 separate groups on the other computer that needed to be kept separate & dragged into 2 separate groups on the new computer, how would I handle that?

how do you get your contacts into groups?

When you ask a question, please include the version of Mac OS X on your computer. iOS is not a Mac operating system.
Assuming you are running OS 10.9.1:
Open Contacts. Click File in the menu bar and select New Group. Enter the name of the group in Contacts on the left.
Go back to All Contacts (on the left) then drag and drop the names you want in that group on to the folder you just named.
Repeat as necessary for other groups.
Note that the names remain, as they should, in All Contacts, even after you have added them to a group.. You can delete a group if you want. The names will still remain in All Contacts.

If you have the contacts on the phone you can sync the phone to the computer. The contacts should then show in address book. At this point you can sync the address book data to iCloud. You have to make sure the iCloud account is setup on the computer and this will not work unless the computer is running 10.7.2 of course. There are other ways to add the contacts to iCloud like through the phone but the phone must be running iOS5. If it is you can simply add the cloud account to the phone and toggle the contacts slider. You will get a prompt to keep or delete the contact data. Of course you keep. Then you will get a prompt to merge at which point you do. This should merge the contacts on the phone with iCloud. Hope this helps.

  • Activating Importing Contacts into new Skype ID

    Hi,
I just set up a new Skype ID as the old one didn't really reflect my business anymore. So I backed up my contacts and then imported them into my new Skype which seemed to work but now all my contacts show as not accepted.
I have tried selecting them and re-requesting from the menu but this doesn't work, they are simply not seeing these requests, and it is not because they have ignored the first attempt, they are just not getting them at all.
I have tried deleting the contacts and resubmitting a request but again, no luck.
How do I get over this block where Skype believes it has sent a request but it hasn't?
I am runing the latest version of Skype and these people are all approved contacts in my old account and in the main, do want to be in my new account.
I have even asked some to request me under my new ID but their requests don't seem to get to me either, it seems that all the people I imported from my old ID have been blocked (even though they do not appear in the block list).
Ok, any help would be very appreciated, thanks.

  • I would like set up my contacts into groups.

I would like set up my contacts into groups.
There seems to be no way to do this in either iOS or OSX.  Android figured this out and I see no reason why Apple can't give us the capability to group medical contacts for example into an easily accessible group without having to resort to using Dr. as the first part of the last name in order to have them in a convenient group.
There are many posts that ask for this and Apple seems to have no desire to give us something useful in the entire spectrum of software while fiddling around with watches etc.

In the Contacts app in OS X click the "+" at the bottom and choose New Group. Once groups are created just drag the entries into the group list on the left in the Contacts app. You may have to go to the Contacts View menu and click Show Groups.
You cannot create groups in iOS, or assign contacts to groups using the built-in Contacts app. However, there are several 3rd party apps that allow you to move contacts among groups. I use Speed Names, but there are several others that people have told me are easier to use.

  • OWA - Bulk Import of Contacts into Group

What is an option for importing a list of email addresses into OWA Contact Group/creating OWA Contact Group and pasting members' mail addresses into it? Similarly, if I create a new folder in My Contacts, how I can bulk import into this new folder? When
I use Import Contacts standard OWA feature, contacts always imported into default Contacts folder?

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, there is no feature available in OWA 2013 for you to import Contacts. Please refer to the following article to import Contacts or Contact Group from Outlook 2013 to have a try:

  • Importing Contacts into Numbers?

Does anyone know why each time I drag a contact into numbers it creates a new Table for each contact. This adds lots of unnecessary additional columns, all redundant from the first import. Would like to just have each contact import onto the one page and into appropriate fields. I spoke to Apple about this and they seem to think it's either a bug or nobody has ever wanted to do this even though this option is detailed in the help info in numbers.

You probably want to use the Feedback feature of Numbers (under the Numbers menu) to report this bug. Meanwhile, I can offer a work around. Discovering that each drag/drop resulted in a new table, I selected 2 contacts - they were placed in Numbers in a single table. So your work around is to create a group in Address Book and then select all the members of the group at once. This is feasible as long as you don't anticipate adding people to the sheet later.

  • Contacts into groups

The contacts catorgories in Outlook 2003 won't sync into
    groups in Iphone.
    any help welcome
    chas

I can't use iCloud because my computer is running 10.6.8 and can't go to 10.7 (older machine). Otherwise this wouldn't be a problem. I have individual contacts and I have contact groups, both on my iPhone. I want to do some housecleaning and put individual contacts into specific groups. I can't figure out HOW to do this. Can't do it on the iPhone, can't access iCloud Contacts. Do I use the Mac Address Book? I can't figure out how to sync that with my iPhone either.
    Thanks!

  • Importing contacts into Public Folder email contact list under the folder

I am able to create a public folder and add a blank contacts list
    1. How to do I import external contacts into the public folders contact list?
    * I imported all external contacts via CSV into the GAL and then manually added all of them to my contacts list. I then moved them form my contacts to the public folders contact list.
There has to be a easier way.
    2. How come I can't show the public folders contact list in Favorites? I can see the public folder but not the contacts list in that public folder even after I add it to my favorites.

    Hi,
You may export the contacts from the Personal contact folder and then import it to the Public folder.
The following article for your reference:
    Export contacts
You can export contacts to a file that can then be imported into other applications, such as Web mail clients, Excel spreadsheets, or database applications. The most common export file format is a comma separated value (CSV) file.
    Import contacts
Contacts can be imported into Outlook from other applications or from exported Outlook contacts. These instructions assume that you have already exported the contacts from the other application, such as a Web client, Excel spreadsheet, or database application.
    Hope this helps!

  • Have issues with Contact locking up while dragging contact into Group

After creating a new Group in iCloud-Contacts, while dragging and dropping new contacts into the group, the browser locks up each time I try to drag a new contact into the group.
    Browser:  Firefox 10.0.1

I am also having a similar problem with my 13 " macbook pro purchased in Aug 2011. I took the same to
m/s Unicorn Infosolutions Pvt Ltd , Mumbai ( authorised service centre for apple). They first checked it and said that it was a hardware problem and I will have to keep the MBP with them till they get the replacement part from Bangalore and the repair would be free of cost since it was under warranty. So far so good. Then late in the evening , they called me up to inform that there was liquid found inside and the mother board would have to be repaced and the same would cost Rs 64,000/- which is slightly less than the cost of a new mbp.
Unable to understand the formation of liquid since the time they checked up in the morning and their discovery in the late evening.
They probably had a change of heart regarding replacement of the part under warranty.
Apple should take serious action against such firms which indulge in such unscrupulous activities.
Now I am left high and dry since apart from scrapping my new MBP, my data is also lost.
Hope Apple can come out with a solution for this problem and replace/rectify the machine.

  • Importing contacts into Backup Assistant

VZW told me the only way to import contacts from an old phone is via the Backup Assistant. (I was with another carrier).  I have my contacts on my PC in vcf or csv form.  I can adapt the csv file to suit any specific format that VSW would have.  Not too difficult with a spreadsheet.
I havent found any way to import multiple contacts in a single file, except manually one by one in .vcf format.
When I try to import just two contacts in vcf, they come out mixed up in BA.
I also tried to use the specific VZW BA csv format by exporting as a csv file one of the contacts I imported individually: I opened the exported csv file, which had one contact, duplicated that contact with a small difference in the last name, and tried to import it again.  I got the usual warning:
We need complete information to save each imported contact as a new Backup Assistant contact. Please complete all the required fields First Name, Last Name or Company Name, Phone Number or Email Address for the following rows: 2 & 3. All your other contacts will be imported.
Please anybody, let me know if there is a way to import a number of contacts, even if there is a limitation on the number I can do in one import operation.  That will always be better than importing hundreds of contacts one by one.

I think that was the error - exporting only ONE - try to export your current contact list.  Look at the structure of the csv that gets exported, especially the field delimiters (probably commas) and record separators - this could be line breaks, carriage returns, periods - and this is critical to BA beign able to distinguish one contact record from another.
Once you know the structure and how it separates each record (contact), then you can add the data from your other import list, making sure it follows the same rules; if it uses something else to separate the records, then you'll need to do a search an dreplace for those characters so the structure matches.
Also, the number of fields needs to be the same for each record; if the field is blank then something needs to be put in, like a space, so the right information gets put in the right fields.
Hope this all makes sense....post back with any further questions.

  • How can I import contacts into phone from Excel fi...

I have an N97 Mini. And I have an Excel file on my computer which lists my contacts. In separate columns I have their first names, last names, phone numbers, email addresses.I would like to import this file into my phone's contacts in one go, i.e. without having to enter each person manually. Does anyone know who this can be done?
(Also, in another folder I have a profile photograph of each contact. Is there some way I could also - in one go - add a profile picture to each contact in my phone's contacts?)
FYI: I have Ovi Suite and PC Suite installed on my computer, but it's not clear whether they could help with this. Thanks.

Exporting .csv ( comma seperated value) and Excel files to Outlook and then sync through PCSuite is possible. For the pictures, I'm not sure.

  • Can't drag and drop individual contact into group?

I upgraded from SL to Lion. In the address books, I still have the individual contacts as well as groups. However, when I add new individual contacts and then drag them into a pre-existing group, it doesn't work. In fact, I can't figure out how to add new contacts to the groups. When I try to great a new group, it gives it the name "untitled" and I can't figure out how to change it or delete it (the delete option is greyed out in the edit menu).
    Can anyone help?
Also, is there a way of restoring the three pane view instead of the present two pane view?
    Thanks!

I need an answer to this, too! There seems to be no way to move contacts around unless you start new groups!
HELP! I'm beginning to be sorry I switched to Lion...

    Hi,
We can try to export the Suggested Contacts from Outlook 2010, and then convert them into .NK2 file with the NK2Edit tool.
To export the Suggested Contacts, open your Outlook 2010, click File > Open > Import > select
Comma Separated Values (Windows) > select
Suggested Contacts > follow the wizard to finish the exporting.
For the NK2Edit, you can easily find it by searching in your internet explorer.
For more information, please have a look at this thread:
