Import contents thunderbird data to apple mail

import contents thunderbird data to apple mail

Hi Shootist,
you may ask - but the answer is allready given in my first post:
1st: I used TB for years now, on WIN, UBUNTU and the last 3 or 4 Years on MAC as well.
And as I wrote on my second post in here:
2nd: because TB has many features NOT that would be essential for working with MAC, iPhone, iPad etc. like it is thought. It starts by Adressbook Sync, continues on not automatical working sync of Lightning with iCal and goes on with many other issues like DL all mails another time, when the HDD is full once.
I know, that TB has some features, that are hard to miss afterwards. Once again: I used it for years now and I loved it. But its no more covering all aspects of what I need - privately and for business usage.
I would be soooooo happy, if anybody would post an answer and not again another question, why not using TB instead of Mail.... ;-)

Recent days i have decided to use apple mail. So i export my Outlook data .olm files . but could you please help me how i could import this .olm files into apple mail.

    You can do the same.

  • I need help importing Thunderbird folders into Apple Mail. I can't locate the folder files for thunderbird. OS Mountain Lion.

I have been using Thunderbird as an email client, but recently realized Apple Mail is a really good alternative and would like to change. However, I would like to preserve my existing Thunderbird email history and folder structure in Apple Mail. Apple Mail includes an import Mailboxes process, but when I try, I cannot locate the files I want to import from Thunderbird. They appear to be hidden. I haven't been able to determine if OS 10 hides files and how to make them visible.

All of your TBird mail files are located in ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/XXX.default. The library folder is hidden in Mountain Lion by default. To make it visible open the terminal app in your utilities folder and type "chflags nohidden ~/Library" without the quotes.

  • Thunderbird works, but Apple Mail does not...

    My issue is this:
Mozilla Thunderbird works great with my current POP account. Thunderbird can both receive and send messages--no problem.
Apple Mail cannot receive messages, but it can send them.
All the account settings are exactly the same. The only difference I can find is that in Thunderbird's Security Settings (under Server Settings in Account Settings) you have the ability to check "TLS, if available".
Anyone have any ideas why Mail can't receive messages?
I love the new Apple Mail and really want to use it.

  • Thunderbird works fine, Apple Mail can't send (and other problems)

I have both Thunderbird and Mail setup exactly alike. Thunderbird can send mail just fine, every time, from any location. Mail was able to send messages a few times but for the last few days refuses to send anything.
    Here's the setup:
    Four smtp servers
    mail.bellsouth.net
    mailer.louisiana.edu
    smtp.coxmail.com
    smtp.central.cox.net
each is setup with password SSL authentication. Each works just fine on any other computer and even on this one with Thunderbird. Apple Mail is the only problem. (and yes - ALL SETTINGS ARE EXACTLY CORRECT)
NO - port 25 is NOT the issue - it works fine with other software on this computer and others - it is ONLY Apple Mail which can't manage to connect to the servers.
I use an AirPort extreme and have reset it repeatedly. (I can usually connect to an smtp after doing so but only until Mail attempts to send) I have tried a direct ethernet connection as well. Same results.
Mail refuses to connect to any smtp server. (it connects to the POP servers just fine) Occasionally, if I retype in the smtp password, or even delete it and turn off SSL, it will connect for a short time. (until I try to send a message)
    What's the deal?
I see others have similar problems, but all seem to be ISP related. In this case, I've controlled for everything I can think except Apple Mail.
A few other problems, maybe related or not:
Mail has NEVER saved any messages I have sent out in any type of 'sent' folder. Sometimes the folder appears, sometimes it doesn't, but it is always empty. And yes, the setting to 'delete messages in the sent folder' is set to NEVER. So they should all be there.
Additionally, the very FIRST note I created was saved in my Inbox as it should have been. NOT ONE single subsequent note has saved - I lost every one of them. (I also can't seem to find any means to manually save the note - how ridiculous)
Finally, though it isn't that important at the moment, when Mail can't manage to connect to an smtp server, it just sits there and tries to send forever. Sometimes it will tell me it failed and suggest another server, sometimes not. In all cases, there does not seem to be a "STOP" button or command to tell Mail to quit transmitting/receiving.
I'd really like to use this program since it integrates with iCal and Addressbook, but this is getting absurd.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

    Who is your isp?
If it is Cox they say on their site that you have to use only their smtp server.
Other than the mailer server (of which I have no info), I question the ssl setting.
Cox specifically say to not use ssl when setting up the outgoing server.
Bellsouth do not appear to require authentication and do not use ssl either.

"each is setup with password SSL authentication. Each works just fine on any other computer"
Are any of the other computers mac's?
You say that "it works fine with other software on this computer" - what is this other software that is using ssl and port 25 to connect to the smtp servers?
Port 25 is not used for ssl, use either 587 (standard) or in some cases 465 (non-standard).

  • Trying to import older .mbox files into Apple mail

I have been trying to import older .mbox files back into Apple mail over an hour.
No matter what I use in the import window, nothing seems to work.
If it imports it sends it to the mail downloads folder but nothing from that point on.
I can read text in TextEdit but it's all running together.

I noticed on the left side way down past my last mail box folder ( long list) for the import .mbox files.
    Seems they were hidden !

  • Thunderbird 2.8Gb, Apple Mail 9Gb for same messages

I have all my mail from the last thirteen years in both Thunderbird 3 which uses 2.8 Gb, and Apple Mail 4.2 which uses 9 Gb for the same messages.
There are no duplicates in the Apple Mail, and the attachments all seem to be present and correct in Thunderbird.
Is there an explanation for the difference?
I know I can archive the Apple Mail mailboxes but then Spotlight can't search them.
There doesn't seem to be any "compact" option.
    Thanks for any input.
EDIT: I meant to say that this mail is all "on my mac" and is all the mail from my POP days, before I converted to IMAP.

  • How do I import my mbox file for Apple Mail?

I just did a clean install of my mac os on an iMac. Prior to the install, I exported my mail account to an external drive. I got an INBOX.mbox file/folder that's 4.32GBs. When I click the file, there is an "mbox" file and a "table_of_contents" file.
In Apple mail, I chose import mailboxes - Mail for Mac OS X - and clicked the file. It brings an INBOX folder into the ON MY MAC folder... but no mail. I have tried this a 1/2-dozen ways and cannot get my mail to reload. I assume it's there since the file is 4.32GB.
Anyone have thoughts on this? This is business mail that I need for sure. I feel confident that the files are there since the file is so big. What gives?

It's a mac drive, however, I got past that issue by copying the file to my desktop. The issue now is that it won't load all of the way. It crashes mail half way through. I get mail back to 2011 when it should go back to 2008.
    Thoughts?

  • Garbled mails after importing from Outlook 2011 to Apple mail

I want to migrate from Outlook 2011 to Apple mail. I found 2 ways to do this:
Copy mail folder by mail folder to a Finder folder as .mbox files, and then importing them into Apple mail
creating an imap account on Outlook, synchronizing mails with the imap server, and then connecting from Apple mail to the same server, thereby re-importing mails to Apple mail
With both methods I have the same problem: some mails arrive completely garbled, below is an example. It seems that mostly HTML mails and mails with attachments are affected, but there are also some ordinary text mails which look weird. The strange thing is: they all look absolutely perfect in Outlook 2011!
I have migrated my mail file from every computer I had since about 12 years, first some PCs, and about 1.5 years ago to a Mac. My suspicion is that mails dating back to the "pre-Mac era" are affected, because the latest ones are all perfect. Any ideas?

Thank you Csound1, this is what I did. Bought EMailchemy (which costs 30$, not 20$), but which worked perfectly. I had to do some manual work, because the mails will be exported from Outlook, you have to import them folder by folder into Apple Mail and then move them over to the mail account, but now everythig is perfect. I can only recommend this product.
Sorry about the price error, didn' realize it had increased, but still the best $30 you'll spend

  • MarkSpace Fliq notes import to iPhone Notes and Apple Mail Notes – how to

A while ago I used MarkSpace for Palm one time only to put all my Palm T5 notes, todo, calendar, etc. into iCal and MarkSpace Notebook. This worked fine.
Now after using MarkSpace Fliq Notes I want to stop using that and use Apple Mail’s Notes instead.
To import the MarkSpace Fliq Notes into Apple Mail’s Notes I have to import them one by one according to MarkSpace technical support. I tried this and it works fine. However, I have thousands of notes.
I presume I could make an Automator or Applescript that will do this for me.
But I have never used these functions.
Would someone(s) be kind enough to tell me how to do this in simple terms and list the actual “code” in this forum topic?

I have MobileMe, .Mac to me, and thought it would sync everything through there but alas it doesn't.
This is what I had to do...
On the iPhone, sync it your iTunes on your Mac via the wire. Since I have everything sync (Contacts, Bookmarks, etc) through MobileMe and don't want duplicates I don't usually sync anything but Music/Movies through the wire sync. Once your device shows up in iTunes, click on it and under one of the tabs (I think it is the second one and right now I am away from my Mac using Windooze) towards the bottom it asks to sync Notes. Don't go the advanced section below that because there is a Notes checkbox there but I did not click on that. Force a sync. You will notice that your Notes in Mail and now on iPhone match. Half way there.
Now "eject" your iPhone and plug in your iPad. Do basically everything from above, I just have it sync the Notes on the second tab as I don't want duplicates. On I force the Sync, all of the notes on the iPhone/iMac/iPad where all the same! I just wish Notes would sync through MobileMe! It would make it SOOOOOOO MUCH EASIER. ARE YOU LISTENING APPLE!!! Now if you have Notes on your iPad you want on the iPhone, you are going to have to go back and re-sync again with your iPhone.
Let me know if that does or doesn't help, later when I amd at my Mac I will post what exactly tab and section. I spent most of yesterday trying to find an solution and this was the best I could come up with. I found a lot of Notes articles on the iPhone and syncing; none said MobileMe would do it. Kind of ***** as we pay a lot of MobileMe!

  • Thunderbird/Win and Apple Mail/Mac Odd Behaviour

I'm a Mac ultra-newbie, and I seem to have an odd problem.
I've been using Thunderbird for Windows (ver 3.1 under WinXP SP3), and just acquired a MacBook (OS X, 10.6.4) . After setting up my account in Apple Mail, I noticed that messages downloaded to TB for Windows would not download to Apple Mail, and messages dl'd to Apple Mail would not dl to TB for Windows. Both programs are set to leave messages on the server. When I check the account with webmail (Firefox, all the messages are there.
This seems very strange to me. Again, I'm a Mac ultra-newbie, so maybe there is something obvious I'm missing...
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem, my inbox on my mail server is only 45MB, and I get about 100KB of email a day, but my mail app is somehow transferring 20TB a month to my mail server!!!! It all happens in the background so I don't even notice it going on.
I'm about to get kicked off my host. APPLE??? what the heck is going on?

  • Can I use Thunderbird instead of Apple Mail application

    Hi,
I like Apple's Mail application but it is slow in communicating with AOL. Thunderbird does pretty well and
will both read and send emails via AOL.
But when I use iPhoto or another application and want to share
a picture via email it opens the Apple Mail application by default. Then I must wait for it to talk to AOL, forever.
Can't I somehow make Thunderbird the default outgoing mail app?
    Ed

I think the problem is that iPhoto won't let me select Thunderbird as the email application for sending photos. Apparently it only will use Eudora, the AOL reader, Mail, and i think one other program but not Thunderbird.

  • Winmail.dat in Apple mail

Wow I just have to share with y'all the software solution to those winmail.dat files that have been appearing in my Mail inbox from my office.
When I send files out to some people, frequently I will Bcc myself so that the email also appears on my home email - and it does - but in the form of a winmail.dat file.
So off I went to find out what others used to open these - and I was directed to
    http://www.restoroot.org/OMiC/en/index.php
Love the inexpensive cost and the ease of the software too.
    Just had to share,

Now how boring would that be!
    Thanks for that thought.
If you stop using RTF or HTML for message composition
with Outlook and use Plain Text instead for a number
of reasons, this will resolve it without having to
    use such software.
This is not a Mail.app problem only. The same occurs
with any non-Outlook email client used by a recipient
when the sender of a message is an Outlook user and
adds attachments to a message that was composed with
RTF or HTML instead of using Plain Text for message
composition - but primarily when using RTF with
    Outlook.
This is a Windows Outlook bug that Microslop doesn't
    care enough about to fix.
