You're welcome. I suspect the "import" function has a problem with IE7, 8, & 9 versions or the Favorites folder set is to large or some multiple folder setup's users may be using is causing a problem in Firefox. Hard to track down eaxctly why it happens, because most users only do the "import" once.

sorry i left this out.... see post import after crashing... i also keep getting the message to rebuild thumbnail cache which i do as soon as i get it. i got it today and about 4 days ago.
does this have something to do with it crashing? i was told that 8,000 photos isn't too much for iphoto. is this correct?

  • Error when importing dae (Collada) file

I am trying to add a 3D widget to an ibook in iBooks Author, but the Collada .dae 3D file won't work.
I've tried with 2 different dae files coming from Maya :
         .1/      Maya => .fbx => FBXConverterUI => .dae
         .2/      Maya => .dae
I don't know anything about 3D and got those files from our engineering department.
What Maya export settings would be necessary to obtain a .dae file compatible with iBooks Author ?

Having a similar issue. Importing a certain Collada file is crashing the program. Only happens to a specific object, because I've tried others and they embed fine.

  • Importing photos crashed & now froze, how do I "stop import" in iPhoto?

I connected my camera to the macbook and once all my photos displayed, I selected photos I wished to import, and clicked/dragged them into a new Album that I created. I have always done this in the past, but this time while the photos were being imported, it seemed to have 'freezed' in the middle of it.
The camera listed under Devices still appears as if its importing. When I click onto the "Stop Import" button a pop-up window appears, asking: "Do you want to delete or keep the photos imported so far?"
It allows me to choose between 3 options:
Continue importing, Keep photos, Delete photos.
I've tried all 3 options, however nothing seems to work. There were no photos imported into the album; nor will the device cancel the import. Now I can't get it to go away, even when my camera is disconnected from my laptop. furthermore, when I tried reconnecting my camera, it will show up as a second device (meanwhile it is the same camera) and when trying to import other photos from it, it won't allow it because iPhotos thinks it is still importing the photos from the initial try. Please help me fix this, thanks!

While I am not sure what is going on with iPhoto & why it seems to have
failed while you were attempting to import image files from a camera, the
thing to try and do now may be to repair disk in the computer. This can be
done in a variety of similar yet slightly different ways, using Disk Utility.
Presuming you are familiar with using Disk Utility from either/or the booted
OS X installer DVD (options menu in Installer's header, once started from
the disc while holding C key down.) - OR from the Disk Utility version in the
computer (see GO in Finder, go to Utilities folder in drop-down menu, and
choose Disk Utility and launch it) and when this utility is running, choose
the Macintosh HD from the left-side menu within it, and then select the
'repair disk permissions' from the choice of click-on buttons available.
One fair choice before doing the latter, in the above, would be to start
the computer while holding the Shift key down, and hold that down
until you see a login screen, after logging in (admin password) then go
and launch Disk Utility, and run 'repair disk permissions' then when done,
    quit Disk Utility and restart the computer. (Starting in SafeBoot, helps;
and running disk utility to repair permissions does a little more.)
Starting the computer with the Installer disc in the optical drive and the
C key held will start from the Installer; from the Installer's header, there
are options in drop-down menus, including Disk Utility. You can choose
to 'repair disk' or 'repair disk permissions' and 'verify' the disk. While
there, you could do all three. When done, quit Disk Utility and choose
to restart the computer using the Startup option in the Installer menu.
There may be something else going on in the computer, so to start with
what could be called 'general maintenance' may help; for more depth in
matters such as this, there are free-running utility interface tools that do
tasks in the OS X that should be done, one way or another. Instead of
doing some of these in Terminal or single-user modes, you can run one
of these utility tools to perform routine upkeep on the OS. The one I use
more often (maybe once every two or three months) is OnyX; it is free
and can be downloaded from Titanium Software online. In this, I use the
selection accessed in the Automation choice, and check-box all options.
(This can do many more things, so some effort should be taken to learn.)
If the computer's hard disk drive is getting too close to full, odd things
will happen to the system and whatever apps you run in it. Between
having sufficient installed chip RAM, and adequate unused space in
the computer's hard disk drive, these factors will affect performance
and the lack of working space in the hard drive can cause data loss.
Using Activity Monitor, you can tell the running status of the computer
and its OS, and the resources available to the configuration. You can
also identify the computer for the sake of discussion (precisely define)
by using the System Profiler; and note there are several kinds of info
disclosed in these two different processes.
Crashes and freezing events leave an activity log; there are several
kinds of logs available through the Console (utility) in its menu. The
logs of events can be relatively cryptic but sometimes they repeat a
message and in those, some do cite a cause or event. Date/time of
these is part of the logged event schedule.
If the hard disk drive is getting fuller than ideal, the computer can
freeze or apps can be slow to react to your interaction with the GUI.
So, to find out what else is going on in the computer system & apps,
will take some effort. There is cause & effect, and when things get
strange, symptoms can vary. Troubleshooting can take some effort.
Some kinds of crashes that do not take down the computer, are
different than those which obviously do; some are 'kernel panics'
and others are sometimes lesser events. There are times when
a lesser kernel event may affect the apps and OS; but they go
back to a cause. By providing some information on the status of
the computer's hard disk drive, used capacity verses unused, and
the amount of installed chip RAM, these may help tell a story.
So, there may be more than just the camera and iPhoto involved.
Sometimes, just by restarting the computer, a simple issue may
cease to be a problem; but by starting up as suggested previously,
you can initiate some basic repairs and maybe get that camera
issue to go away, at least for now. But more is going on to cause it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Imported tracks crash iPod 4th after track finishes playing.

Imported tracks are converted music files from .mp3, I used Roxio Sound editor to 'enhance' the bass because these tracks otherwise playback faint compared to more recent tracks.
Note: This crash does not happen with all similarly converted and enhanced music tracks, but it is consistent with the 2 out of 10 songs so far.
I am planning to wipe the memory clean, but wanted to see if there are any other known solutions.
    Thanks!

    Hello there, German1.
The following Knowledge Base articles provide some practical and informative steps for how to bring content into iTunes:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
    and
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347
From the "Adding music and other content to iTunes" article, this information in particular may prove useful:
Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.

  • Sony A77 Raw Files Won't Import Without Crashing

Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my 15" Macbook Pro Mid 2010, iPhoto crashes when I try to import. So far I have reinstalled Mac OS X 4 times and iLife (after deleting everything) once. This is from the crash log "*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[__NSArrayI removeAllObjects]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1eef4b70'." I have no idea how to fix this.
    My iPhoto crash log:
    http://pastebin.com/wKBAHNnT
    My Aperture Crash log:
    http://pastebin.com/yP6BwQGN
Also everything on my computer is up-to-date.
Is anyone else having this problem with the Sony Alpha 77 (A77) and its Raw files?

    OT:  Sony DSLR talk.
Your response indicates you took my comment as a challenge to your decision.  It wasn't.  I own both.  The a900 has the biggest, brightest viewfinder ever put on a camera.  It's worth experiencing sometime.  Michael Reichman reports (discussing the Nikon D800/e):
    Optical Viewfinder
There has been so much attention paid to the latest generation of mirrorless cameras and their electronic viewfinders that it's worth mentioning that as good as they are, a full-frame optical viewfinder through a large glass prism is still the gold standard. I discussed this with an illustrative example in my recent Sony NEX-7 Six Months On Report.
But, having said that (as Seinfield was wont to say), this isn't the biggest and the brightest OVF on the market. A Sony A900, for example, is much brighter. Not that the D800/E is poor in this regard, it just isn't brilliant (literally and figuratively).

  • MDM Maps in Import Manager crashes and does not open

I am having problems with some of my maps in the Import Manager.  While working in the Import Manager the maps are fine and I am able to import the data, but once I exit out of Import Manager and try to open the same map, it crashes and closes the application.  I am not sure what the issue my be.  Could it be the fields I am mapping to are creating a conflict somewhere?  Has anyone encountered the same problem.  Any insight on this issue would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

This was happening to me as well.  Basically, the data I was submitting was much too large for MDM to handle which resulted in a timeout.  To resolve this, I copied my data to temp tables to minimize the number of records I was sending it.  After my experience with Import Manager, I think it's safe to say that it was not intended for large data loads.  In the future I will be using Import Server and translate my data to XML.

  • Import Manager Crash

    Hello
We are importing data from CSV files (odbc) and the import manager keeps crashing with the error.
"the system cannot find the file specified. Windows Sockets Error Code 2.
    How can we fix/avoid this.
We are running MDM 5.5 SP4 patch 02. All help is appreciated.
    Regards
    Con

My take on this is :  when you have a large import happening thru import manager - it sucks up a lot of memory and at the same time if you open data manager - and if it sucks up more memory than the threshold memory - there might be a disconnect between the clients [import manager & data manger ] to the MDM server. This is when the import manager or data manager "crash".
Techinically its not a crash - its more of a disconnect.  When this happens you will get Windows Sockets Errors .
Solution : - increase memory on the system, or use import server instead to load, or open data manager after the import manager is closed.
[ threshold memory is no fixed value which can be defined - it will depend on server hardware and the amount of memory used by the import manager and data manager]

  • Imported avi crashes premiere pro cs4...sound only on windows movie maker

    Hello all,
So when I go to import an avi it just crashes premiere pro...but first it turns into a sound only file, then crashes. With windows movie maker it only plays the sound?
Anyone else have these problems? I don't really want to use other video editors...
    Oh and I'm running Vista.
    Suggestions please.

    I'm sorry I don't have a quick answer.
    From what I can tell
    - Vista X64 uses MovieMaker 64bit
    - MovieMaker 64bit requires 64bit codecs (I think there is an experimental 64 bit ffdshow on sourceforge that might work)
    - However installing 64bit codecs may stop your 32bit video apps from rendering properly.
I didn't provide links to the experimental ffdshow build cause I didn't try it myself.
If I were you, I'd give up on getting Movie Maker working for now, and just focus on Premiere pro. ? Since it is a paid application they should provide good support. You can't be alone with this issue. If they require codec information just tell them it's a H.264 video with PCM Audio in a AVI wrapper. Guess a quick snapshot video could be provided if they needed one.
    ps.
. I'm just a user, not affiliated with Creative)
(pss... I use Vista x64 as well, and do not get video in moviemaker either)

  • Import causes crash

I have had this issue since loading iTunes onto my Packard Bell PC running XP over a year ago and nobody either on here or the "experts" in the Apple Stores can help. Has anyone found a solution yet?
When I click Import in iTunes to import a CD it just crashes the PC.
    AAArrrggghhh!

    hiya!
When I click Import in iTunes to import a CD it just crashes the PC.
are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Import library crash

I'm using Flash CS 3 Professional.
When importing pictures to library the program crashes before import window can open.
I've updated the program using Help> update - doesn't fix the problem.
Went to find a patch and found 2 ptaches  Flash-10.0.1-en_US-AdobeUpdate and Flash-10.0.2en_US-AdobeUpdate
I can download the patches, however when I open the exe. file it downloads then the file says can't install > quit
    Please advise...

    Hi there,
Are you running CS4 with the update applied (10.0.2 on your startup screen?)
Can you detail the size of the JPGs (file size, dimensions, etc) and how many you're trying to import in the small and large batches?  Are you importing them into a new document, or existing?  If it's an existing document, do you also crash when importing these into a new doc?
    Thanks!
    Jen.

  • Import bookmarks crash

    I have two problems:
    1. I just installed Firefox 3.6.1.15 on my computer at work. When I try to import my Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.1870CO favorites, Firefox crashes. I was able to import all of the other Internet Explorer settings.
    2. I've created four crash reports, but cannot access them by going to about:crashes in Firefox. The links to the crash reports are there, but Firefox times out trying to access them.
    Please advise.

You're welcome. I suspect the "import" function has a problem with IE7, 8, & 9 versions or the Favorites folder set is to large or some multiple folder setup's users may be using is causing a problem in Firefox. Hard to track down eaxctly why it happens, because most users only do the "import" once.

  • .mxf files not importing and crashing premiere

    Hello folks
I am editing an event project for a college class. We used three HVX and recorded onto P2 cards. We used about 8 p2 cards total.
Several of the files and entire folder of the video .mxf files will not import into premiere. I get a box stating it is importing them, but the program will state that it is not responding several moments later and I have to force close the entire project.
I have played these .mxf files on VLC player and they play, so I am unsure of how to get adobe premiere cs6 to accept these files without crashing if I can at all.
    Thank you,
    James

I am editing on a school PC (a dell) and it is using windows 7.
It is Adobe Premiere Cs6 I am not aware of any updates that have been updating (ex. patches) or what the internal parts are on the computer.
The video files are in MXF format.
I do not believe the proram is running any thrid party effects or codecs.
A handful of the MXF files will not import into premiere, but instead crash the system.

  • PowerPoint 2007 "import notes" crash

    Hi all,
When I am setting up to record my slides, I import my slide
speaker notes into the recording window. Once I do this, and then
hit "OK" and try to save my PowerPoint 20007 file (as .ppt or
.pptx), Presenter 7 crashes 100% of the time.
I'm running Windows XP SP2. I never had this problem with
Presenter v6. Is this a problem unique to me, or are other people
    having similar issues?

I managed to solve my problem. I had imported text from
another slide, and for some reason this text caused some major
problems with Presenter 7. So basically deleted the text and
manually typed it into the slide note, and then re-imported the
note into the recording session. For some reason that
    worked.

  • Mail.app not restoring properly - keeps asking to import mailboxes, crashes

I noticed in the last few days that searching for email messages, either from within Mail.app or directly from spotlight, fails to find emails that I recently received and haven't deleted. (At the very least they should have shown up in the trash mailbox).
After trying to delete the Envelope* files and rebuilding the mailboxes, it started crashing completely.
I then restored both the entire ~/Library/Mail folder as well as the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file from my 1 day old Time Machine backup.
Launching Mail after this restore brings up the "Welcome to Mail" window, as if upgrading from Tiger and it then starts importing mailboxes.
After a few hundred (out of ~30,000) messages Mail.app just crashes, and trying to launch it again repeats the precise same thing again and again.
I've also tried launching it after having uninstalled all bundles by the way, and the crashes are pretty much the same.
I did note, however, that the Envelope files that are normally in the ~/Library/Mail folder, are non-existant in any of the Time Machine restore points - this seems like the reason Mail.app absolutely must start by importing the mailboxes, to create an Envelope Index etc.
Any advice for solutions/workarounds etc. would be most appreciated - I'm currently Mail-less!
    Thanks!
    Thanks.

I'm also having this exact problem. Mail tells me "Mail needs to import your messages. This might take a few minutes, and you won't be able to use Mail until the import is finished. Click continue to import your messages now, or click Cancel if you'd rather do it later."
Clicking continue starts the import process -- of my 170,000 -- emails. Mail reliably gets to 88868 messages, then the number stops counting upwards and the progress bar no longer progresses.
Watching Mail in Activity Monitor I can see that Mail starts rapidly consuming more and more memory until it fills the system memory entirely (on my MBP with 4GB RAM) and then crashes out.
Like the previous poster, I suspect there is a particular message causing Mail to crash or go into a memory leak loop, however, it's very difficult to identify because the crash report Mail generates (along with log info in Console) doesn't mention any specific messages it is importing.
It's clearly a memory leak problem of some sort because Mail consistently sits at 212.94 MB of active RAM usage while importing the mail up until the point it crashes, after which time it uses about 40MB a second until it fill system memory.
I tried using the LSOF command to monitor what files Mail was opening each second, however when it goes into its "rapid memory consumption about to crash" mode, I can see that it is continuing to open different mail messages, so it is not clear which one I'd have to delete to fix the problem.
So I am a bit stumped. I can work around the problem by hitting cancel when Mail says it needs to reimport the mail, but then I can only receive new mail, as none of my existing mail is listed in Mail. Very annoying.
