Import dialog doesn't appear (OS X)

When I connect my SanDisk Firewire memory card reader to my Mac Pro, Lightroom doesn't open and the import dialog doesn't appear. This worked fine on my previous G5. iPhoto isn't opening either... nothing happens at all when I plug in the reader.

Chris, you may have already done this, but be sure to check 'Show Import Dialog when a Memory card is detected' under Import in LR PReferences, as well.

Hi All,
Is anyone else having a problem doing a File > Open after using Illustrator for a while? I select File > Open and nothing happens after I've used Illustrator for a while. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, the File Open dialog just doesn't appear so I have to shut down and re-open Illustrator.

Hi Sumit,
I've tried as suggested and reset preferences a few times as outlined on the help page you referenced, but I still have the same issue. If I open one file, within what seems to be a random amount of "open file" or "place" commands, the file open dialog is not invoked and I have to shut down Illustrator and re-open it. Then I can do a open or place once or twice before I'm locked out again. Maybe a re-install of the app?

Aperture 3 Import Dialog Doesn't Show Any Images

Sometimes the import dialog just doesn't show any images. First time I encountered this I had to restart Aperture. But now even that doesn't help.

You don't say what your source is when your imports have been experiencing problems. Are you importing directly from a camera (or a card in a card reader)? Or are you importing images which have already been downloaded to your hard disk?
I've just completed importing approximately 5,000 images which date back to 2001, across several hundred projects. These have, obviously, been imported from an existing disk-based archive. Every so often, I'd find what you've described - the import window with the source correctly selected, but no preview images. I never worked out a pattern for this behaviour. However, I found dealing with it +for my particular circumstances+ was as simple as pressing <escape> to cancel the import and then immediately beginning the import again. It never failed on the second time around. I never needed (for this problem) to quit and restart Aperture, let alone reboot my system.
The problem I just described was being experienced on a fully patched 3.0.1 system. Of course, you might be experiencing something slightly different...

Flash 10.0.2 Air Setting Dialog Doesn't Appear

I can't seem to get the Air Setting dialog window to appear (Flash 10.0.2 with Adobe AIR 1.5) . All I see if the SWF exporting window which runs and disappears.
However, I tested this on another machine (mac) which is running Flash 10.0 and Adobe AIR 1.1, the AIR Setting dialog windows comes up and I'm able to create an AIR app.
Has anyone else run into this problem as well?

AIR 2 is not supposed to show in the player dropdown in the publish settings. The steps that you followed to install the AIR SDK in CS4 is overlaying AIR 1.5 SDK files with AIR 2 SDK files. The player target is still showing AIR 1.5, but you actually use AIR 2 SDK to publish the .air file if you overlaying the files correctly. If you want to use the AIR 2 features (API), you need to change the namespace in the application descriptor file (swfname-app.xml) from 1.5 to 2.0.
Does it crash when you compile a brand new fla file that target Adobe AIR 1.5 with a trace statement like trace('a');? Please give that a try and let me know.
If it still crashed with the simple fla file, it might be due to a problem overlaying the files. If that the case, you might need to uninstall Flash, reinstall Flash, run the 10.0.2 updater, and overlay the files again. If it happens to a particular fla file, we will need to follow up with you further.

Import dialog doesn't show files anymore (not even the ones on the hard drive)

I shoot pictures with a D70 (canon) and i imported them always with no problems. After a update or installation of a external program the import dialog does not show any pictures anymore. It's a black screen. The files can be read from the filebrowser and are regular cr2 files (raw files). What can I do? There are 149 files on the card and non are shown, see below

Import dialogue doesn't appear

I have been using (and teaching!) LR since version 1.
I am currently using LR 3.4.1 on a Windows XP SP3 machine (x32). I have a problem that has been getting progressively worse. I never used to have a problem importing. Then, once in awhile, when LR had been open for a long time, the import dialogue box would not come up. It had a simple solution. Exit LR, and relaunch, and it was fine. A few weeks ago, this solution stopped working. I needed to reboot the computer, and then it would be fine for a day or two. Now I am lucky if I can get an import or two done before it no longer works. My productivity is being severely impacted and I now have several sessions that need to be imported.
Please help. This is rendering my preferred workflow inoperational!

I am inclined to agree with you that something else is afoot. Here are a few other datapoints, and my suspicion.
When I exited LR the last time this failed, most of the LR window remained on the screen. The background was not repainted. I have also noticed that occasionally, the new pop-up window on Facebook that shows pictures is all black at times. Additionally, in PS, there are times when viewing at 100% leaves large whote or black blocks in the image. I am suspecting the video card may be at issue here.
I am upgrading the card and testing to see if it may be the culprit. I already have the latest drivers for the card and that didn't solve the problem.

[LR 3.5] An old bug is back : import dialog sometimes doesn't show up

Sometimes, when I use the Synchronize Folder command or when I click on the Import... button, the Import dialog doesn't show up (sometimes meaning here "very often"). Obviously, the dialog has been loaded because at this time, LR is in a modal state (you can't use any user interface element - you just get a beep when clicking anywhere in the main window). The dialog is here but it is not visible. I'm using a dual monitor setup but the problem also occurs when I de-activate the secondary display.
I already encountered this bug in previous versions and I thought it had been fixed. Unfortunately, it is back. When this happens, I have to reboot the system to get the Import dialog working correctly again. A logoff / logon is not enough. Killing the LR process doesn't help either. I'm running XP Pro SP3, 3GB of memory, /3GB switch enabled (disabling it doesn't change anything).

Actually, it can happen that when the Import dialog is in this hidden state, trying to close Lightroom causes a message box to appear : "Do you want to close the Import dialog and quit?" (or something like that). Well, I don't want to close it, I want to see it !

THe Import Dialog doesn't Show THe RAW files of my Panasonic Lumix GH2. I didnt have any Problems with Lightroom 3.
Did anybody has an idea?

This issue may have nothing to do with the camera per se.
Try expanding the destination sub panel on the R-hand side of the import dialog and see what happens.
Let us know if there is still an issue.

Save/open dialog box doesn't appear

Hi,
I have something strange. I can open and edit a project by double clicking on it, also start a new project. But when I want to save or open a project via "save as" of "open project" the dialog box doesn't appear. Saving an existing file trough "ctrl+s" works.
Things I tried already are:
- Restart my computer (windows)
- Clear my AE cache
- Reinstal AE
Has anyone has this before? It would be great if it got solved because I can't complete work because of it.

Photoshop CS5 - Save as Adobe pdf doesn't appear

HI, I AM TRYING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM WHOLE DAY. I HAVE MAC OSX 10.6.5 UPDATED, ACROBAT PRO 9.4.1 UPDATED, PHOTOSHOP CS 5 12.0.1 UPDATEM. BUT WHEN I WAS GO TO PRINT-PRINT SETTINGS-PDF THERE WHOLE UNDERLINE PRESETS DO NOTHING. /MEANS MAIL PDF, SAVE AS ADOBE PDF, SAVE AS PDFX, SAVE PDF TO IPHOTO/. NONE DIALOG FROM MENTIONED UNDERLINE ITEMS DOESN'T APPEAR IN PHOTOSHOP. NO ERROR, NOTHING. WHEN I TRY TO USE PDF-SAVE AS ADOBE PDF FROM IPHOTO DIALOG BOX APPEARS. I TRY ALSO OPEN IN ROSETTE ETC. Hi, thanks. I now that this would be alternative, but photoshop PDF causes white places on the fonts and object where must be color or style layer. And as I wrote file is huge and not possible to print from it via offset printer. Downsampling cause bad quality. The problem is not to find alternative way.
Problem is why these function do not work. Its basic function of acrobat pro and I want to use it. Distiller creates high quality PDF with no errors nad small size. "Save as adobe PDF" works everywhere like iPhoto etc ect. and in Photoshop dialog box does not appear. It would be great if someone with PS CS5 and acrobat pro 9.4 can test it also, if it is not a bug.
Now I must only generates distiller PDF via windows because mac osx 10.6.5 do not support old version Adobe PDF printer and alternative Save as adobe PDF does not work for me.
From the time I bought mac I am very disappointed of it, many many problems that I do not know on windows platform. Bugs from adobe-repair update, mac os update-another bugs, adobe update, mac os update-another bugs....magic circle.

Lightroom 5.6 Import dialog empty on Win 8

Hello
For the last couple of weeks I have problems with LR5.6 import window unable to see any files for import on removable card, camera, local drive or network drive. If I drag files from explorer to lightroom the import dialog opens but the import screen remain empty
Windows 8 64 bit CC licence.
Problems appeared to begin after update through CC but since then I've tried
1 - new catalog
2- reinstall 5.6
3 - uninstall and revert to 5.4
All without success same problem - now reinstalled 5.6 and don't think it was an update problem.
I'm not aware of any LR options that would restrict filetypes showing in the import dialog
I'm not aware of other changes I've made that would affect file associations etc. - there have been some automatic windows updates.
There are no problems viewing / opening the files with windows explorer or photoshop etc. and all the images currently in my catalog are fine and editable in LR - it's just the import dialog that is blank
It doesn't help with workflow!!
Any ideas would be great

As per the below article, you need to update your Lightroom to the latest version and in your case, you have already done that.

Did you update to Win 8.1? If not, install the Win 8.1 update and try the same.

Can't delete file from desktop. Can't get info. Doesn't appear in ls -a. What?

I file has appeared on my desktop. I believe it's a temp file created while downloading something in Safari. When I try to delete it, I get "The item x can't be moved to the trash because it can't be deleted":
I tried right click > Get Info, and nothing happens (the info dialog does not appear).
I tried ls -al on my desktop, and the file doesn't appear in the list:
How do I get rid of this thing? What is it?

Weird. I guess if this were happening to me, I would see if the thing is still there after a reboot. If it is still there, I would boot with command-R and use Disk Utility to verify and repair the disk (not permissions).
The file name indicates you were downloading something to run under windows. Do you have windows?

SPOOL DIALOG DOES NOT APPEAR WHEN NO_DIALOG = SPACE

The control parameters that allow the spool dialog popup to appear work when executing directly from MB90, but when executing from MIGO, the spool dialog popup does not appear. The print output is occurring without giving user option to change spool dialog entries. The desired outcome is to have the spool dialog popup appear when executing IM transactions and our output type is WEE4 to allow user input prior to printing.

Hi azman1437.
I see that since an update you haven't been able to scan with your Deskjet 3050A. I try to help with this.
I would suggest by starting with an uinstall/install of your software. Something may have changed how the software is loading on the computer when you attempt to scan.
The other option, is looking for the HPscan application.
Where this is located depends on your computers operating system. To help with that would need to know the OS of the computer.

Keyboard doesn't appear in Messages+ on HTC M8

My keyboard doesn't appear when I try to type a message in Messages+. It appears when I type in the to box. Instead of the keyboard I have a box lets you send gifts, photos, audio, etc. I've tried restarting numerous times with no effect. Has anyone else had this issue? I like the verizon messaging app and don't want to use another, if possible.

You've come to the right place for help! Being able to use the keyboard while in the message + app is definitely important.
When did this issue start? Do you have the most current software version running on the phone http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-95738/? Have you checked that the Verizon Messages+ application is updated to version 5.5.17 or later. Please go to the Google Playstore and update the Verizon Messages+ application and retest.

SAVE button doesn't appear in Toolbar of Text Edit Control

Hai All,
I need to save the changes made to the text in my Text Edit Control, i know how to handle the Save command but my problem is the SAVE button doesn't appear in the Toolbar of the Text Editor. I have searched through the SDN but in all of those threads they already have the SAVE button and hence only the logic was discussed. But i need the SAVE button to appear in my Text Edit Control. Looking forward for your helpful answers.
