Import dialogue fails to open when CF card inserted

Hi
Despite being configured to do so the import dialogue fails to open automatically when I insert a CF card, although Lightroom starts. I have searched the Adobe site for answers with no luck and am unable to find an email contact address for Adobe Lightroom! Can anyone help please?

Andrew,
I too have witnessed the same behavior with XP Pro. My workaround is to start LR before inserting the memory card. If LR is already open, inserting the card leads to the normal import dialog screen.

  • Import Dialog not opening when Camera Card inserted

Have set this option in LR2 preferences. However as I also have PS Elements 6 this loader opens instead. Have set auto play for the card reader to open LR to no avail. Have tried re-installing LR no change. Using Windows XP.

Lee, I to have just discovered that the import dialog does not pop up. The help says it is supposed to work that way so I thought I had some kind of problem. Are you saying the help is wrong and it has been changed. Not documented?
I am also on Windows XP, SP2 and I cannot figure out how to make auto import work. Is there some set up that may not be documented on how to do this?
I mean I can always go file>import from disk or file>import from device but I was surprised to find the import dialog not pop up when a card is inserted. The check box is there in preferences>import to suggest along with help menu, that it should work.
    Appreciate any feedback.

I have a problem when iTunes card insert the card number comes message the code you entered has not been properly activated

Is the store that you bought it from close so that you could try going back to them and ask them to activate the card properly ? If not then try contacting iTunes Support (you will probably need to give them images of the front and back of the card, and possibly its receipt) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then iTunes Cards And Codes

  • I have LR5.7 and it won't open import dialogue when memory card inserted, but I have clicked checkbox in Edit - Preferences

I have LR 5.7 and it won't open 'import dialogue' when I insert a memory card, but I have clicked the checkbox in Edit - Prerences.

Have you closed and restarted Lightroom since you checked that box?

  • Lightroom 5.0 fails to automatically open import dialog when memory card inserted

Lightroom 5.0 fails to detect memory card and open import dialog. This has always worked fine in Lightroom 4, 3,and 2.  Same cards, same camera, same iMac using OS X 10.8.4. Manual importing works OK, card is detected just fine.

I have tested Lightroom 4 and Lightroom 5 on Mac OSx 10.9.4 and find no difference in behavior.
If you have correctly set Image Capture to auto-launch Lightroom on insertion of card and you have set Lightroom to launch the Import dialog upon insertion of card, this is expected behavior:
    1. If Lightroom is not open open, inserting a Memory Card will launch Lightroom without opening the Import Dialog
    2. If Lightroom is open already, inserting a Memory Card will open the Import Dialog.
I can find no combination of settings in Lightroom 4 or 5 that allow you to, with Lightroom closed, insert a card and have Lightroom launch and open the Import dialog. I would sure love to see someone produce a screen vid capture of Lightroom 4 opening by itself and launching an import dialog upon card insertion with no user intervention.

    Don and John,
I must be dumber than I could possibly look, but I do thank you both for your help.
Don, I have already checked and un-checked that first check item in "import" under preferences, to no avail. I have crossed refferenced it with my MacBook and regardless of whether it is the same or different the problem still occures.
John, I will admit to being smart enough to change from PC to Mac relatively recently but appear dumb enough to not being able to discover how to set the Mac to do nothing on card insert as you describe.... could you advise please.
    Many thanks

  • Group Policy Management Console Failes to open when one Domain Controller is powered down

    Hi All,
This was an accidental discovery, but here's my dilemma. I have a site with 2 domain controllers(Windows 2008 R2), and if I shut down my second domain controller, when I try to open the Group Policy Management  Console on the 1st domain controller,
it fails to open and I get the following error, "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted" with 3 options to "retry", "choose another domain controller", or remove.   If I go to chose another domain
controller and select the 1st domain controller it still fails.  Unless the 2nd DC is turned on, I have no issues opening the GP management console. Not sure, why this is happening, I've done it in the pass without issue.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Well it seems that some how the PDC emulator is set to be the 2nd DC instead of the 1st DC on the 1st DC which explains why the failure after the 2nd DC went down. Why or should I say how could the PDC get switched from the primary DC without human intervention.
Does the PDC automatically switch for any reason?

  • My app tabs fail to open when i reopen the browser. why?

After installing 4.0 yesterday I started experimenting with new features, including the app tabs. I closed some of the app tabs, though not all, and then as an experiment closed & reopened the browser.
    Your specs say that:
All of the App Tabs you have set when you close Firefox will open as App Tabs when you start Firefox again.
This did happen for me. Neither the app tabs I had open when I closed the browser nor the ones I had closed were saved. It seems that maybe this feature is not behaving as expected? There appears to be no persistence with the app tabs.

Your System Details List shows the NoSquint extension, so you can check the zoom settings in that extension.

Hey, thanks 4 your response... Well I figured that out... I hoped that there was a way to prevent system calls, regarding devices, to wake up my macbook pro... something like: forbid interrupts while asleep
If you ever hear of a way to fix it please let me know...
I think a solution would be to disable automount on the express card device... I use it for my time machine backup and really DON'T want to remove the card every five minutes...
    Cheers, Philipp

  • Finder fails to open when starting up macbook pro due to low disk space (possibly)

    Dear forum,
I have a Macbook Pro (13") running snow leopard and have a partitioned hard drive (half OS X and half Windows 7). This morning I was using the Mac side and was running low on disk space (very low) so I was moving desktop files into folders to free up some space. I restarted the computer to see what the free space was but the computer stopped/froze at the desktop image (no folders or dock appeared. I restarted the computer many times but the finder never opens and all I see is the desktop wallpaper. I donnected usb drives and put in dvds but the finder never appears so I cn do nothing but shut down and start up.
I ran Disk Utility but it found no problems with the disk. I do not have a backup of the important file forlders on my drive and due to low disk space I am worried to reinstall and archive the OS since there may not be enough disk space to archive (only about 220 mb free on the apple side when I am in windows using bootcamp).
Does anyone know what happeded to my machine? Is there such low disk space that finder had an issue? I have started on such low memory before.
What does Archive actually do when reinstalling OS X? Does it make a copy of the HD files and folders or does it simply reinstall the operating system piece by piece while protecting the files and folders that I wish to save?
Thanks for all your help and sorry for the length of the writing (I wanted you to understand all before replying).

    Solved
By chance I got itunes to pop up (running hands over keys blindly) and with it the apple menu icon so I had access to my recently used items and so I could delete images from iphoto and thus bring the free disk space up above zero and then the dock/folders and finder came back....I have just backed up my important files......feeling better now
Any advice on how to more quickly handle this type of issue next time?
    Thanks.

  • QT 7.6 fails to open when movie icon clicked

I just downloaded and installed the new update to Leopard (10.5.7) and now, something seems to have gone wrong with Quicktime's - to be exact QT Pro 7.6 - ability to recognize files. Until this morning, I could open a movie file (say, .mov, .MPEG, etc.) or audio file (e.g. MP3) with a control-click on the icon and choosing QT from the various players offered for opening the file. Or, as usual, I could simply double-click on a QT icon. Either way, the file would open in QT and be ready to play.
Now, suddenly, this no longer works. If I double-click on a QT icon or try to Open it with the control-click move, I see QT appear for an instant - its name appears in the menu bar at top of desktop - but it disappears just as quickly and the file is not presented in a player window.
I can still open Quicktime as a program first and then use its "Open File ...." menu command to pick a file and play it, no problem. And once the program is open, I can do the double-click move and QT files will open normally for playing.
I have re-downloaded and re-installed QT, but no luck. I am repairing disk permissions and will see if that helps. (No luck; nothing has changed.)
If anyone could enlighten me as to how OS X or its apps recognize file types, I'd be grateful. I know that in the Info pane, one can assign an app to a specific file or to all files of a certain type, but I don't quite understand where this linkage could get broken - if that is indeed what has happened on my machine.
I don't see any other problems of this sort with other kinds of files or apps.
    Thanks in advance.
    John

I had not repaired permissions, but I will try that. And in response to a suggestion from someone on the Leopard/Finder & Files discussion, I installed the 10.5.7 update and my experience is explained there, like so:
First, thanks, Baltwo, much for the response and suggested fix. I did set up another admin account and logged-in there, the problem did not seem to exist there, so I went back and installed the 10.5.7 Combo Update, as suggested, and ... well, things have become slightly more mysterious.
For instance, I have a couple of .MOV files I'd downloaded from the Web. I double-clicked on one of them and I got the same problematic behavior: Quicktime flashed open momentarily, then disappeared, and the .MOV file is left unopened. I tried the other movie file, and same thing. Then, I picked an MP3 file and control-clicked it and chose from the pop-up menu to Open it with Quicktime. Voila, it opened. And now, with that MP3 still open, I went back to the .MOV files and they both opened in Quicktime with a standard double-click.
I now closed QT and tried to double-click one of the .MOV files. Sure enough, it opened just fine. And the second one, too. I closed QT and tried this again, to confirm. But no, now these files would not open the right way.
Puzzle No. 1: In my Finder's list of Recent (App) Items, the name Quicktime shows up twice. This is downright strange, and makes me wonder if the OS is confused or seeing some set of mismatched QT components from different releases of the program.
I can erase the Recent Items list and then, even if I my trying to open a QT file fails, the name Quicktime shows up in the list. If I then do get another QT file to open, there will be a second listing of QT in the Recent Items list - as if two distinct programs had been called upon.
Puzzle No. 2: When I did open that MP3, it seemed to take considerably longer than usual, as if the computer were having to sort something out before it opened the file. And when MP3 data is loading into QT, it takes much longer than it used to - maybe 5 times slower or more. This new sluggishness in Quicktime actually has been evident to me ever since I first installed Leopard a few weeks ago. I got to live with it, but it was certainly annoying at first - and still is, if I think about it, because it makes me suspect that QT, or more likely, supporting code within Leopard, has been diddled in some way that's highly optimized for the Intel processor and in so doing treats Power PC as a lesser chip, or even an afterthought. My further trouble with opening QT files seems to point to the same thing. Certainly, I hope I'm wrong.
Puzzle No. 3: I tried to open some .DV movie files that I'd made with iMovie awhile back. Their icon shows the QT logo and they've always opened by default with QT. A double-click wouldn't open them, no matter if the QT was already open or not. With QT already open to an MP3 file, one of these .DVs opened with the Control-click-Open move, but not the others. Otherwise, nothing doing.
Maybe some of this evidence points to another possible fix, or offers insight into changes we're not being told about or that were unanticipated. I hope Apple is listening and will offer some advice or a fix.
    Thanks all, John

I just downloaded CC on my iMac (I have it on my MacBookPro and am wanting to add it to my new-to-me desktop.) I was able to download the installer just fine and when I go to open it it tries for a few seconds and then crashes. No error message or anything- just crashes. I tried looking through the FAQs and it suggested clicking the "gear" icon - I did that and nothing happened- it's not "clickable."

Keighla Anderson are you installing on a newly created administrator account?  Is there any other Adobe Creative software already installed on this computer?

  • Photo fails to open when I click on a thumbnail. Why?

Many photos which are visible in a thumbnail - from an Event - will not open. Instead I get a black screen, on which is a black/grey exclamation mark. The date is visible but not the image. Why is this and what can I do?

That exclamation mark is an indication that iPhoto has broken the link/file path to the original file. If you're running iPhoto 9 or later dp the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Photo transfer App doesn't appear when SD card inserted with camera connection kit  to iPad 2

Photo transfer app doesn't appear when the SD card is connected to iPad 2 using the camera connection kit. I also tried connecting the camera directly to iPad using that adaptor as well as no app appears.

You should see something like this on your iPad screen

  • BSOD occurs when SD card inserted. FASTFAT.SYS crashes.

I this will happen almost everytime if the machine has been in use for some time. Inserting an SD card (4GB Canon format) a BSOD is virtually guaranteed. After a new boot up it works fine but catastrophic if not since all info is lost and nothing is closed.
I looked at the dump file and the FASTFAT.SYS is the cause of the crash. This is a very old driver used in Windows 7 and there are numerous issues with it in many forums dating back even to XP. There are no crashes introduced by any other device or USB key/drive connected. Only the SD card.
I thought it may have be due to the USB controller being turned off for power conservation but even after removing the ability by toggling not to turn off to save power to the USB devices it still crashed the very next time I used it which was days later. The system was plugged in as well as it usually is.
I can do the same thing on my old notebook with its internal multicast reader running Window 7 32 bit and it does not have a problem. The Thinkpad does with Win 7 64bit. I am always conscious of a BSOD occurring if I dare plug in my camera card. This renders the port useless since I cannot afford regular crashes and a card reader externally may have to be used.

    Solved!

I had exactly the same problem and have managed to solve it, however it took me several sleepless nights.
The faulty driver my Card reader used was ver. 6.10.10.32 (according to info in Device manager). I found another driver on Lenovo's website (http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/8axw02ww.exe ; ver. 6.20.11.42 dated 4th July 2012). What I did was install the new driver. During the installation process I found it was not digitally signed, but I continued the installation process anyway. Then, in Device manager, I chose the Card controller (in IDE ATA/ATAPI section) and clicked on Update driver. I chose manual installation and indicated the place where my driver was saved (by default: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\MULTICARD). Windows won't let you use the driver straight away as it lacks digital signature and here is how to cope with that: http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/how-to-install-use-unsigned-drivers-in-windows-vista-7-x64.... . I followed "Solution number 2" and the "Finding out what files to sign" section. If you do it carefully, your drivers will be signed automatically and the whole procedure will finish at this point.
The only difference is that my Card reader is now listed under Storage controllers, which changes nothing, in fact. I have tried using different SD cards and have not encountered the BSOD anymore.
    Hope you'll find that useful.
    Cheers,
    Robert
