Import doesn't see new files

I am saving a file from Elements 9 into a folder that is managed by LR3.  Usually when i save to this folder I go into LR3 and do a sync folder and the file shows up.  All of a sudden this has gotten very squirrely.  sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  when i saved the file to my desktop and try to do an import from there, LR doesn't even see the file at all, which is why i'm guessing the sync isn't working.  I've tried saving them as JPG, PSD, TIFF all with no success.  anyone else seen this problem?
i am running a mac with snow leopard 10.6.5, LR3 3.2, PSE9.

Lr will only sync with your desktop if there are already images within your library that are already stored there. Likewise, it will only sync with subfolders if "Include subfolders" is enabled in Import window.

I created the XML file in Adobe Priemer Pro. Final Cut doesn't see this file. The file in the list not the active. Prompt please.

The XML format Premiere uses is not supported in FCPX. The only way I know of that may work is to go through FCP7 and then use 7toX to get to FCPX.

  • 2.1.4 doesn't see tiff files to import

    Hello again
In dealing with the green overlay issue, I upgraded to 2.1.4.
I'm working on archiving (and restoring a bit) some old family photos, and while working out the green ghost, I decided they weren't sharp enough and decided to rescan them using a different scanner.
I scanned them at 1200 ppi and saved them in tiff format (16-bit grayscale and 48-bit colour) instead of jpg for better quality. I figured that would be fine since Aperture creates tifs when I edit in NIK plugins.
Tonight I opened Aperture and went to import my tiffs into a new project and there were no files to import. Which is strange, since I could see them right there in the finder.
So, I thought maybe they were too big, and opened one in PS, changed the mode to 8-bit grayscale and 600 ppi, but Aperture still didn't see it in the folder.
Soooo, I renamed the 2.1.4 Aperture app and reinstalled my 2.1.2 Aperture and ta-da! there were the files!
So 2.1.2 imported all the tiffs, large as they were, into my project (referenced). I closed this app, and reopened the 2.1.4 Aperture and sure enough, there in that new project were the images that it couldn't see to import for itself.
    What gives?
Sure it's a work-around, but now i'm having to tolerate the green overlay and wait for aperture to think it over before it shows me some of my work, then I have to import with an earlier version just because it can't see the files, (on top of having to convert my RAW files to DNG when the camera came out 2 years ago) ... this is getting frustrating and is tres inefficient.
Is there something I'm missing here?
    Elizabeth

Well, there you go. That solved the issue.
I didn't realize that Aperture would search it's existing projects to find 'duplicates'!
And yet, the names are different for the tiffs and jpgs, only the images themselves are the same.
    I am befuddled.
Thank you for the solution, Tony

  • Distiller Doesn't See PS File...

After creating a pdf from a ps file in a particular folder, if I save another ps in that same folder and return to make another pdf file, Distiller doesn't see it. I have to quit distiller in order to go back to that same folder to see the ps. This is a new thing that came about, I have been able to do this successfully in the past. Distiller Version 6.0.2, MAC OSX 10.3.9.
    Any ideas?

That's weird... Everything is in the same folder... Ah, never mind, I have found the solution in the meantime Like with dvips, I have command (which I didn't know I had ) ps2pdf... And everything works there...

  • Time Machine doesn't notice new files.

Alright, so I have Time Machine set up with my external drive. Everything with the setup process went smoothly, and the initial backup successfully copied everything. Since then, however, Time Machine doesn't notice when new files appear. If I create a new project in Logic, for example, it will never get backed up.
    Here's what I know:
-The only thing I have told Time Machine to not back up is the other partition on my external drive.
-Logic project files get stored to the default ~/Music/Logic/ directory, which is on my internal hard drive.
-Time Machine will never notice that new projects have been added, no matter how long I wait (hours, days, weeks) or if I tell Time Machine to back up now.
-Time Machine will back up the files if I format its partition and start fresh with the same configuration.
-Reviewing the Backup.log files shows that Time Machine isn't detecting any significant changes (or new files, in my case).
-Other directories are working fine, such as /Library/WebServer/Documents/
    Anybody have any ideas?

According to Ars' Leopard review, Time Machine uses a new file system change notification system framework called FSEvents (which is explained quite well in the Ars article). Since FSEvents depends on the system used by Spotlight, can you tell us whether Spotlight is updating or not?
If Spotlight is up to date, the next thing to see is whether the FSEvents framework is capable of receiving updates. To do so, the fseventsd process must be running (I imagine that you should be able to see if under Activity Monitor). If it is not running, there lies the problem: you must launch it and make sure that is launches at startup.
If the fsevetsd is running and you have free disk space (the FSEvents framework stores files events on a directory .fseventsd at the root of each file system), you might want to check that the .fseventsd directory of the file system where you have your home direcotry does not have a no_log file inside telling it not to log events for that file system. If such a file does exist, deleting it should do the trick (no guarantees though, I don't have Tiger yet to test my words!). If it doesn't exist, I hope someone else can help you further along, because I am afraid that I have run out of suggestions.
    Good luck.

  • ITunes doesn't see new iPod nano and creates 'iPod' folders on the Desktop

My mom got a new 5th Gen Nano. When it is connected to my parents' iMac (G5 with built in iSight running Leopard), iTunes doesn't see it. The strange thing is that the iPod itself goes through the normal synching procedures about every 30 seconds, and every time it happens, it creates a new 'iPod' folder on the desktop. The really strange thing is that each folder is actually a mounted volume that cannot be ejected and the only way to remove them is to reboot the system. Right now, there are 11 of those folders on the desktop (I am connected via screen sharing in iChat.
Any idea what to do about this one?
    jorj

So, I found out how to fix this issue. In "My Computer" right click on the iPod and format it. I chose to format it using FAT and Default allocation size. After that, I opened iTunes and it recognized my iPod Shuffle. It said it wasn't formatted properly but gave me the option to restore it to factory defaults which fixed everything. Way to go Self. Thank you. You're Welcome

  • Mail Finder doesn't find new files

When I save a new file to a folder and then to add it as an attachment to a message in Mail, the finder window in Mail doesn't show the new file. I have to exit and restart Mail for the finder window to find the new file. What's going on?

I often have the same problem, but the annoying workaround I came up with is a little quicker and less annoying than relaunching Mail. I just go into the finder (I don't even need to close the "Attach" window) and change anything about the file—change a single character in the name, move it to another folder, or the desktop, etc.—and the "Attach" window promptly sees it.

  • Need to repeadly restart finder... cant see new files on desktop

anytime i save somethign to the desktop, i loose the ability to see the new files.. so i restart the finder, and they appear... whats wrong?
as a point of notice, my finder also takes a LONG time to start when i boot the machine... restart from sleep is quick tho...

Try repairing your drive, and do a clone type backup.
    Check for corruption.
Might want to create a new user account for testing after you make sure. In Tiger there was a "Finder amnesia" (for want of a better term) before changes showed up. Changes were made, but maybe not written to disk yet or updated by the Finder.
Depending on your situation, but Leopard by default I think creates a "Downloads" folder in your home account and I always store downloads into a folder, then move them to another with all the updates, patches, installers and such for safe keeping.
Restarting the Finder should not be necessary and points to other issues. And there is the warning "unsaved changes may be lost" I think.
So it does sound like an issue with the Desktop and Finder which sounds like a corrupt directory. Hopefully not. One note: Disk Utility does not always find and repair all problems. Definite need for Disk Warrior. I had some issues with the Finder, no problems found by First Aid, but DW did.

  • Powerbook doesn't see new HD. Why?

My HD died so I installed a new one. Everything seemed to work fine. The drive fit like a glove, the plug went in cleanly. I am trying to install Leopard but the computer can't see the new hard drive. With the computer booted from the the install disk, I ran Disk Utility and it doesn't see the new HD.
Do you know why the HD can't be seen and what I need to do the get the computer to recognize it?

Hi, Ian. At this point I recommend either replacing the flex cable for the drive or replacing the new drive itself. If you can exchange the drive on the basis that "it seems to be bad, because my computer doesn't see it after I've checked its connections carefully," do so. If you can't, a new cable is inexpensive and might turn out to be the solution you're looking for. Either way, you may rule out one of the three possible culprits.

  • Apple TV doesn't see new streamed content

I've always had issues with getting the Apple TV to see new content that I've added to iTunes. I have a large library (much larger than the 160 GB option) so I have the Apple TV linked to my Mac Mini. Until recently, every time I added a show or movie to iTunes, I'd have to relaunch iTunes in order for the item to show up on the Apple TV. Inconvenient, but do-able.
Starting at some point recently, the Apple TV will not see new content. I can reset iTunes, reset the computer, even reset the Apple TV, all to no avail. The only thing that has worked so far is to unlink the Mini and then re-link it. Everything then has to be reconnected, resynced, etc. Obviously this is not acceptable on a regular basis.
Does anyone know how to force the Apple TV to update the list of media?
    Thanks in advance.

forcing a Syncing works for me...
    from the menu *File > Sync +<your appleTV's name>+*
    OR
click on the appleTV under devices and press Sync button in the lower right hand corner of the iTunes window.
some things like metadata (movie ratings R, PG, G..) take time to be picked up by the appleTV but usually restarting the appleTV fixes this i.e. press and hold menu + down button until light blinks amber, then select language and resolution then select restart
if sync isn't doing it you might have some bigger problems and restoring from factory (can be found in the menu above where you pressed restart), then re-upgrade might get rid of any cruft that might have done something nasty to you appleTV.
    sync should do it though...

  • Disc Utility doesn't see new hard drive

    Hi Everyone.
I've just replaced my old 20gig IBM Travelstar 4200rpm with a new Seagate Momentus 7200.1 80gig hard drive. I used Carbon Copy to back a duplicate of the info on the Travelsdtar to an extrenal fireiwre drive. I can boot up from the fireiwre drive. When I go to format the new Seagate drive, disc utility doesn't see it. I even booted from a tiger install disc and tried it's disc utiltiy. Still couldn't see it. Before I go and reinsert the old Travelstar, maybe someone can tell me what I am doing wrong? thanks Andrew
PS. The Seagate had jumpers on it. The Travelstar didn't, so I took off the jumpers on the Seagate before I installed it..

Ti G4 Powerbook DVI and Intel Imac Mac OS X (10.4.9) Ti Book upgraded from 400Mhz to 667Mhz

Hi Eww. You are exactly right. What was I thinking (not). I reopened the laptop and had a good poke around. The Seagate comes with a jumper diagram on the case. I was correct to assume that no jumpers means " master". Why I didn't see that last night only wine will know.
It's not safe to surmise, because one drive has no
jumpers in place or jumpers in a particular
arrangement, that any other drive with which you
replace it should be jumpered the same way. Jumper
configurations may vary considerably from one drive
    model and manufacturer to another.
If you find that the drive is already correctly
jumpered (with no jumpers in place), then the problem
may be a poor connection .
Yes that was it. In my haste to get the thing going I only connected one row of the pins. Problem solved. It's purring along as I type. For the record it is much quieter than the Travelstar. Thanks for everybody's replies.

  • Windows Server 2008r2 - Users somtimes can't see new files in folders unless a new file is created.

    Hello Folks!
My users sometimes have a problem that user A sometimes can't see a file created or copied by user B to a directory within a share they can both access. Both are within the same group which grants them Full Access on the share, settings for permissions are
correctly set to be applied on directories, subdirectories and files.. Confusingly, this can be fixed when user A creates some kind of file (empty .txt, for example); the "missing" files will suddenly appear.

Windows File Server 2008r2, shares and files are located here.
ABENUM activated, needed for several folders.
The Domain-Admin Account is able to see all the files all the time.
Anybody got an idea what I could check?
    Thank you very much!
    Kind regards,

    Hi,
When you use user A access the shared folder, did you do the refresh to check the result?

  • Early 2009 17" MBP doesn't see new SuperTalent SSD

Just installed the SuperTalent MasterDrive RX 512 GB SSD in my early 2009 MBP 17". I was originally worried about the drive fitting in the machine since it is 12.mm tall, but that was not a problem. It fits snugly but it does fit.
My problem is that the machine doesn't see the drive. I have taken it out and put it in an external USB enclosure and was able to create a GUID partition map and mac os extendend journaled partition. Then put it back in the MBP to see if that helped. No luck, the disk utility still can not see it but the System Profiler does identify it in the SATA area.
Here is some info about my MBP from system profiler if it helps anyone: Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP52.008E.B00
    SMC Version (system): 1.42f4
Anybody out there able to get this SuperTalent drive to work in a similar MacBook Pro?
    Thanks in advance,

OK, I think I have figured this out. It is an odd process but it does get me to where I want to be. I ran acorss another forum post where someone had the same issue with a different SSD. They said that their problem was resolved by installing OSX on the SSD while it was connected via USB. I didn't think the setup DVD would install the OS to an externally connected drive but it did. So, I installed the SSD back inside my MBP and it booted into it just fine. At this point I'm feeling pretty good because the machine is running on the internal SSD. My next step was to boot to the setup DVD again and restore from my Time Machine backup to the SSD. This didn't work either. Amazingly enough, even when you can boot the machine and run on the SSD, the disk utility and restore utility still can't see it.
Next step was to take the disk out of the MBP again, put it back in a USB enclosure, boot to the setup DVD (no hard drive or SSD in the machine at this point) and then restore from time machine disk to USB connected SSD.
This is in process now and will take a while. My Time Mahchine image is about 330 gigs and is having to cross two USB connections. Current time remainig for the restore is showing about 13 hours. So I will check on it in tomorrow and then put the SSD back in the MBP and fire it up.
I think this will be OK... (Fingers crossed)
Will post another update tomorrow with the results.
