Import DV from JVC GR-D370u

Installed Quicktime Pro (for DV support) including uninstall QT on the Mac & install QT7 then upgrade to Pro & a got a Belkin Firewire 800/400 9 pin to 4 pin cable for connection to the JVC camcorder, followed the JVC instructions, but nothing happens - looks like camcorder and iMac do not see each other at all. Any ideas?

a fw-connected camcorder isn't shown in Finder (the SystemProfiler will show it as an 'unknown device').
you need an app to import.. iMovie, FinalCut/express or /pro, Premiere, etc.etc.
btw. no need to install QTpro for handling DV .. your in- and de- and back'n forth-installing could seriously damage the whole System, due to QT is the basic component of media handling.

  • How do i import video from JVC cam corder to my iMac?

Im trying ti import videos from my JVC GR D240 EK camcorder. When i plug the usb in it doesnt even recognaise it. i have tried to open it in Imovie but had no luck?

This is a mini-DV format camcorder. It will work with your Mac, but you need a Mac with a Firewire  port, and you need a Firewire Cable.
Look in /About This Mac/More Info.../System Report/Hardware/Firewire to see if your Mac has Firewire and if so which type it has.
Older Macs will have a Firewire 400 port. You need a 6 pin to 4 pin Firewire Cable.

More recent Macs may have a Firewire 800 port. You need a 4 pin to 9 pin Firewire Cable.

Some recent MacBooks are USB only. In this case you cannot import from the camera.
Some recent iMacs and MacBook Pros have Thunderbolt but not Firewire. In this case you need a 4 pin to 9 pin Firewire Cable and an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter.

  • BRAND NEW APPLE USER IN DESPERATE NEED OF HELP IMPORTING VIDEOS FROM JVC!!!

I have an older JVC Everio. I have probably had it for 3 or 4 years. I don't exactly remember. Anyway, I have always used Dell products and they were tough to download videos to as well. What my issue is is that I have a Free Agent External Hard Drive with all my video files saved in the JVC .MOD format. When I open iMovie (version 7.1.1) and try to import the files from the external hard drive it doesn't even recognize these files as video files. I am no computer wizard (maybe that is obvious) and I could really use some basic help. I want to love this machine. I bought it for the video/photo capabilities. I shoot a Canon XTi 10.2 Rebel and have about 10,000 photos saved on the same external hard drive. I am looking forward to learning how to do this, but could use some much needed advice!!
    Thanks!
    Hoov

I believe this is what you want.
And, here's another: MPEG Streamclip .
The Cyberlink Prodirector software that came with the CamCorder or is available from JVC will also convert to other formats, but it isn't a Mac compatible program.
And, this site outlines how to import the files into iMovie.

  • Problems importing clips from JVC Everio HD

    Hi there,
Seems that there was a good thread on this topic that was closed some time ago...so I apologize if this has been covered before.
I have just purchased my first Mac, an iMac 2.66 GHz machine after my PC died for the last time. I bought it based on the understanding that it would be a better platform to edit video from our recently acquired JVC HD Everio camcorder...
I'm trying to import into iMovie 08, but everytime I attempt it, only a small fraction of the clips are brought in.
This thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1141385&tstart=105 , seems to suggest that the problem is resolved in current versions of iMovie - are they refering to iMovie 09?
Some additional detail for the kind-hearted trouble-shooters out there:
When the import failure occurs, an error message comes up that reads "there was an error downloading x of y clips..."
After the error occurs, the Everio HDD disappears, and I get the warning message about disconnecting devices properly. Is iMovie shutting down the connection to my camera??
When I simply try to transfer files from the camera to a folder on the iMac, the transfer works perfectly and quickly, so I think I can rule out any connection problems. However, I cannot import the Everio files into iMovie from that folder for some reason.
I shot a combination of AVCHD and MPEG-2TS footage - only the AVCHD clips are importable - I've already researched the compatibility issue for the MPEG-2TS format.
Any advice, solutions, guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Dave

I've just spoken to Apple Support, who have given me a case number to have my machine looked at/repaired...here's the thing though: I've only had my iMac for 10 days, and the store that i purchased it from has a 14-day return policy on computers. So, I think it would likely be easier to just tell them I want a new one and start over, rather than have the computer sit in the shop for a week getting assessed.
The only question is about all the data that I've put on the drive already...lots of pics, video, etc. Would I need to format the drive if I wanted to clean all that off prior to the return? I have a 500GB external drive that I can easily back up to...
Thoughts? Has anyone had similar USB problems? is it a pain to resolve?
    Thanks!

  • Importing footage from JVC camera in FCP6

    Hi all,
I am working with a JVC Everio HD camera (I think it is the GZ-EX250).  I can't find a way to import footage directly into FCP6. It seems the only way to get the footage in there is to import it into iMovie (I have iMovie 8), then export it as a Quicktime, and then import the Quicktime into FCP. I've done this with footage that was shot using this camera in SD mode. My understanding is that if I want to shoot in HD that I'll havge to convert the footage before bringing it into iMovie. Seems like a pretty cumbersome process. Maybe I'm missing something. Does anyone know how to import my HD footage from this camera directly into FCP6?
I hope my explanation makes enough sense for someone to give me a good answer. Let me know if you need more information. Thanks very much in advance!
    Andy
MacBook Pro (running OSX 10.5.8, 2.4 GHz INtel Core Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM).

Great tutorial - easy to follow. I notice I only had two preferences listed for importing - there was no setting for Apple Pro Res 422 (LT) so I used Apple ProRes 422. Is the lack of choices because I'm using FCP6 not 7, or do the preferences get added as you hook up different cameras? At any rate, thanks for the help!

  • DIgital noise after importing DV from JVC GR-DVL157

I am having difficulty getting clean audio from my JVC GR-DVL157 camcorder .
I have tried toggling the import preference for "filterr audio from Camera"
If I leave this option on, I get drop outs in the audio, and if I turn it off I get digital high pitched "noise" (obviously filtered out when this option is set).
Can anyone give any tips on what to do next?

I don't have a solution, just wanted to say that I have the same problem with my Sony camera, so it is not a hardware issue. I had turned off the filtering because of intolerable frequent sound dropouts, and I could live with the occasional high-pitched click. Since upgrading to 10.4.6, however, the high pitched digital noise is quite annoying, not constant but happening often and unpredictably, affecting both voices and instruments.
I also hope someone has some tips!

  • Importing footage from JVC memory cards

needing to import footage shot form a JVC HD 750 into my FCP 6 system.  The computer "sees" the data...but I get an eroor messgae when I try to Log and Transfer...Do I need to import a driver?

What format did you record in?
According the the JVC website for that camera
    http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/features.jsp?model_id=MDL102066
the camera records in several different formats, including one that is directly importable into FCP without conversion ( if that is the case, go to the menu File > Import  > Files . . ., navigate to the card and import the files).
It also records in XDcam, which will require downloading and installing Sony XDCam transfer, and also a couple of different SD file formats.

  • Can´t import video from JVC everio G into imovie08

It´s my frist trial importing video and i´m not able to import video files (.mod) which are MPEG2. I can´t even open the files with other apps like vlc, quick time. I tried what is suggested in this link (http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/im08tricks) but didn´t work. I tried imovie HD and tells me that the files are not recognised by quick time. Don´t what else to do !
    Please help !

I have the same camera. This is what you need to do:
    1) use the USB cable, don't use the firewire cable. I don't know if I have a bad firewire cable, but my camera isn't recognized by iMovie unless I use USB
    2) when prompted by the camera, select "connect to device"
    3) start iMovie 08. It should detect your camera and prompt you to download the movies. Note that iMovie 06 won't recognize the everio model camera I have.
    4) once the movie is downloaded to the hard drive, iMovie starts generating thumbnails - it takes forever. You can eject your camera and disconnect it while iMovie generates the thumbnails.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problem importing from JVC MG 155 (videcam with hard disk drive)

I had a problem importing video from my videocam Jvc MG 155.
I tried when there was only few record in the videocam and everything gone right.
Otried when there were 520 movies and over 4 hour of video (I went to holiday and made also underwater movies) and the program crach before importing the movies.
I can import the moviesw only via firewire but in this way i import in DV mode (so I have near 60 gigabytes occupied by that movies insted of the original size in the hdd of the camera of 18 giga).
    Someone have a solution?
If I import by firewire I reach the same quality (the camera record directly in mpeg 2 and via firewire I import in dv way)?
    Any idea?
Jvc don't support mac because they don't give you software compatible (the cd inside is win only).

    You are right.
But the first time I imported with imovie 08 (the time when there was only few movies on the camera and everything gone right and the program don't crash) i notice that the program imported the movies in compress format (mpeg2) and the size was the same of the videocamera (more or less ..but I'm sure it's not in DV format).
Maybe the prgram crash because of the hight number of the miniature it must generate to let me choose witch I want import.
Certantly Apple mus resolve this bug because the model of this videocamera is one of the fews they assure like compatible directly with imovie 08.

    Hi Brady,
I have a new Everio HD that I have been fooling with all day. Finally got a clip into iMovie 6 ....but only once and I'm still figuring this out too.....if you are not using a HD camera this may or may not work for you.
The Everio Quicktime extension must be installed. (Download and install the patch if you upgrade to Leopard).
Is your camera an HD? If so you need to capture the clip in 1440 CDR not FHD (FullHighDef).
Launch iMovie 6. Create a new movie in Video format HDV 1080i . then plug in your camera via firewire.
Put the camera in playback mode (Play/REC), press the Function, select Dubbing Playback (bottom of the menu). You should get a menu with a start button now. Switch to iMovie 6 and select "Import". This should start the clip playing from the camera....you may have to hit the Start on the camera.
This should get your clips into i Movie.
We may be ably to create playlists and get them in that way too but I have not had any luck with the JVC instructions to do this. There are video tutorials on the JVC website too but again they have not worked for me.
There is also a way to get and work the FHD files but that is a USB file transfer followed by a file conversion. I'll tackle that a little later...
    Good luck,
    Roger

  • Import files from DR-HD100

Is there a way to import clips (.mov) directly from my Hardisk drive DR-HD-100 in Final Cut X.
I connect the drive but FCP X won't recognize it so it's useless and I have to import everything from tape via my camera (JVC GY-HD200)
Thanks if you can help me.

  • Can't import Video from Video Camera

I gave my father in law my old iMac (G4 Flat Panel running OSX 10.3.9 and running iMovie 3.0.3) - and we can't seem to import video from his digital video camera.
The camera is much newer than the iMac - it is a JVC G2-MG330HU digital video camera.
When the camera is plugged in (via USB) to the iMac, the drive on the camera shows up in Finder, but not inside the iMovie program.
If you try to import from iMovie, the camera (and therefore the video clip files on the camera) can not been seen.
    Any hints?
    Thank you.
    Jeremy

    Hi there Jermaster
iMovie 3 does not support the camera you have. iM is a Digital Video (DV) editor. Cameras that record to mini DV tape is what is required. IM 3 does not support USB either. You need Firewire. The camera you have is a flash based Hard Drive camera. To get the video off this camera you'll need iM08 or 09.
But it doesn't appear that the computer you have will support either of these versions.
    See below ...
    iLife ’09 System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
iMovie requires an Intel-based Mac, Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster).
GarageBand Learn to Play requires an Intel-based Mac with a dual-core processor or better.

    QuickTime 7.5.5 or later (included)
AVCHD video requires a Mac with an Intel Core Duo processor or better. Visit iMovie ’09 Camcorder Support for details on digital video device and format support.
24-bit recording in GarageBand requires a Mac OS X-compatible audio interface with support for 24-bit audio. Please consult the owner’s manual or manufacturer directly for audio device specifications and compatibility.
