Import DVD Files

I can't import files from a DVD or from my HD camera. I'm trying to make the highest quality videos possible and being that I can't import from my camera directly I was hoping I could burn the videos to DVD and then import the files from the DVD for editing. Please help!
Thanks!

I don't know about the original post but I have FCE, MacBook Pro running Leopard and can import the Video_TS files but they load without audio. I converted the video to QT and that would not import at all.

  • Problems importing DVD file in After Effects

I am having trouble importing a DVD file into After Effects. When I import it, it gets in but then when I click on it an error comes up. An error comes up everytime I click on it, and it's annoying. Is there any way to fix this? I am trying to work with a full movie in After Effects so I can make a short music video. I don't know what else to do.If it helps the movie file is about 2 hrs long.
Please, if you understand what I'm asking, or if you've been through the same thing- your reply will be very valuable!

    Found the solution!
I found the answer on a post on http://Creativecow.net
    The link
    The post:
"...3. What ended up fixing it was by *not*  dragging the movie file to the new composition icon. Turns out my movie  had a strange frame rate of 14.985 instead of 15. Not sure why After  Effects interpreted my movie that way, I'm doing some unusual exports  because I'm working with screen capture software, so it's definitely not  a traditional workflow.
    4. So my solution was to create a composition from one of the AE presets  first and then tweak the settings slightly to match my movie  properties. Adding my movie clip to this composition gives me no errors  and we're good to go.
Strange solution, but it has worked. Now AE CS3 and I can be friends . . ."
Anyways, thank you guys for your replies!

  • Importing DVD file without losing quality?

    Hi there
I'm trying to import a non-encrypted DVD file, that plays in Quicktime and lasts approximately one minute. What would you say is the best way to import it without a drop in image quality?

What would you say is the best way to import it without a drop in image quality?
There is no such thing. All transcodes of material involve some compromises.
Do a search here for "Nick Holmes MPEG Streamclip". Nick has a tutorial on how to do what you'd like.

  • Importing DVD files to DVD SP

A couple weeks ago, I posted a question about importing a DVd file from a DVD recorder into DVD SP so that I could change the menus and generally clean it up. The suggestion was to use MPEG Streamclip to export. I did that, but when I did it, I either got a "muxer bitrate too high" message, or video read error. I tried "export to m2v and aiff. any further suggestions?

    Hi
Try encoding the audio AIFF files to Dolby 2 (AC3) using Compressor. That will save a lot of bitrate.
    Hope that helps !

  • Importing DVD files into iMovie

If I own a purchased DVD of a football game, (and the appropriate software to create it into VOB files), and an iTunes audio (aiff) version of the radio broadcast of the same game, is there a way to import into iMovie the video files (from the DVD)? Then I can import (from iTunes) the audio, and have a radio commentary version of the football game. I assume I can then (using the correct software) shrink the file size to fit onto a 4.3 gig DVD, and burn the final project. Is this correct process? Thank you for your assisstance.

  • HeLp - MAc versitility with importing DVD files?!

    I bought a DVD player with a harddrive and recording facilities - DVD-RAM and DVD-R - a Panasonic SCHT1500.
I recorded some old home videos from VHS onto the harddrive - and then burned some DVDs.
The DVD-R does not play on my G4 Powerbook and is not recognised as having anything on it - it just comes up as Untitled CD
I then burned a DVD-RAM disc which also does not play - but is recognised as a DVD. When you click on the DVD icon on the desktop (named MEI_UDF) there is one folder - named DVD_RTAV. Within that folder are 3 files:
    VR_MANGR.BUP
    VR_MANGR.IFO
    VR_MOVIE.VRO
all of which have 'exec' in the top left corner on thumbnail view.
What I really wanted to do was to edit these old home movies on my Mac and then dispose of them on the Panasonic. Is this going to be possible?
Can someone give me a hand?! Cheers

    Hello Matt,
in any case i would stick with DVD-R for the moment.
SP should be the right option. did you actually
"finalize" your disc? it should say that on your
recorders little display at the end of your disc
    burning process.
to come back to the question: your disc that shows up
as "untitled CD" - can you locate any files on that
one? if so what are they?
    keep us posted
    viva la mela
OK... so I forgot to finalise Now I have a number of files .BUP .IFO .VOB
And it plays on my Mac! Any ideas on how to proceed now?!

  • Cannot import .mts files from SD card. Never received an error message before, but now it is telling me that DVD content is protected, which it is not.

I always import video files, every week, from an SD card (.mts file) no problem. All of a sudden today I'm getting an error message about the content (says "DVD" contact) is likely protected, which it is not.

What happens if, instead of using your operating system to move the files from the card, you leave your card in the camcorder, attach the camcorder to your computer via USB, then use Add Media/From Flip or Camera to open the Video Importer to get the video from the camcorder to your computer (as teh computer's instructions suggest)?

  • Importing Video Files from DVD and the net onto final cut express 4

    2 questions:
1st: Ive imported a video file downloaded from the net to practice editing, but once I have done that, the video file has no audio? how do I get the audio for those files?
2nd: I had ripped some video files from my university film project onto my laptop, but I cant Import the files into final cut express to further edit it (because it was a group project), because its the wrong format and stuff. How do I fix this and allow it to be imported?
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Cheers

ohk cool, wat about my first problem with the sound not being imported?
Most likely the file is multiplexed. That means the audio and video are rolled into one. Same thing applies as the other post, the file needs to be in a format that FCE recognizes. Streamclip may do it, depending on the type of file of course.
