Import dvd media

I have some VHS tapes I converted to dvd and not sure how to import into FCP, would like any advise, thanks.

Advice, try the search function.
Not only will you find your answer but you'll learn all sorts of other esoteric things about FCP, Compressor and related conversion software.
Good luck.

  • Importing DVD media into DVD Studio Pro 4

    Hello all. Here's my quandy.
    I recorded some material to a series of DVD's from Betacam masters. The DVD's were recorded on a Sony DVD recorder (dont' know the model off hand) on DVD-R media. I would like to import the material into DVD Studio Pro 4 so I can create a single disc containing all material.
    For some reason I cannot import the files from the disc. I used the import command and received confirmation that files were imported but when I tried to play them in the preview window the clip would play for a couple of seconds and then stop cold.
    I'm a novice here, so take that into account when telling me what stupid pilot error mistake I'm making. Deal? Thanks.

    What Aldershot said...
    If the DVD-R with your clips on was recorded and made into a disc that you can watch in a DVD player then you need to extract the MPEGs from the folders on that disc, which you can then import into DVDSP.
    You need to use elementary streams - that is video and audio separate. If you are using MPG files it is likely that they are combined audio and video and will need splitting apart. MPEG Stream clip is one option, another is bbDEMUX which I tend to use more frequently. There are other tools available as well - hunt through Version Tracker or just google for them.
    Welcome to the world of DVD!

  • I need the dvd media of acrobat 9.0 pro

    Hello I have the license, but I do not have the DVD media for acrobat 9.0 pro. I downloaded from Adobe web site but the license did not activated the software. I talk to Adobe and they said I have to get a DVD media otherwise it will not activate with my license. Can someone help me?

    You must have an upgrade version in that case. Where is your original download -- or did you throw it away? Throwing it away is like buying software on a DVD, installing it, and tossing the DVD in the trash.
    In any case, are you talking about the regular version of AA 9 Pro or an upgrade version? I suspect it is the latter. This difference is important since the regular version can be downloaded from Adobe (for a PC). Also, are you looking for a PC or MAC version. Basically the S/N is tied to the reg/upgrade as well as the MAC/PC aspect. If it is an upgrade, you also need the previous S/N that was used for the upgrade. Sorry, I don't have the upgrade version.

  • Problem importing DVD

    I'm new to this.  I've imported dvd into Premier without difficulty before but I now have one which seems to import ok but only shows about a quarter (the top left part) of the image in the preview screen even when I select 'fit to screen'.  The dvd plays fine in ms media player etc.  I've search for some setting to change but not found what to do.  Anybody know the answer please???

    Chris,
    Welcome to the forum.
    Now, please tell us more about this DVD. Is is a DVD-Video (meant to be played via a software DVD player, or set-top player hooked up to a TV), or is it a DVD-Data, with AV files stored on it?
    If the former, is it a commercial DVD-Video, or was it created in an authoring program, like PrE's, Encore, Roxio, etc., or was it created by a camera, or a DVR (DVD Recorder)?
    All of these things can matter. This ARTICLE will also give you some background on DVD-Videos and their main building blocks, the .VOB files.
    Also, what version of PrE are you using?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Importing DVDs

    What program can be used to import a commercial dvd into my computer library? I have no problems with importing commercial cds. If it can't be done or if it is illegal I understand.

    MacBook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    There's no law against importing DVDs or viewing them. In fact, there's a treaty called the International Copyright Treaty that the US is part of that affirms your right to buy works in one country and use/view them in another.
    HOWEVER, there's a problem. When the DVD spec was created, the motion picture industry asked that they include something called "region codes" in the spec that identify where the disk came from, and that the DVD-CCA, which licenses the technology and hands out keys, required licensees to restrict players to playing only a certain region. So, players at that time were sold "region-locked", meaning they could play only DVDs from a particular region. The idea was that this would permit media companies to segment markets so they could institute price-controls and maximize profits and control releases.
    In practice, region-coding was identified as a violation of fair-use rights of consumers or an anti-competitive practice in many places outside the USA. So, two things happened: outside the US many players started to get sold "region free" meaning they disregard region codes, and pirates seized on the problem and started making region-free copies of movies that were not available in certain regions. It's in-part because the region-coding system was such a failure that the industry more or less shrugged when in 1996 we entered a WIPO agreement that basically stated that the government couldn't have any part in defending the approach (i.e., we can't make it illegal to circumvent the region code).
    However, just because consumers don't want them doesn't mean they have ceased to exist. The US doesn't forbid the practice, and many companies that sell to the US still distribute region-locked players for contractual reasons.
    I'm not really sure why Apple still ships their products with region-locked models unless they have some sort of contractual obligation to uphold. Clearly they get lots of complaints.
    The Apple superdrives will permit you to set the region code 5 times, after which the hardware is irreversibly locked to that region. You can simply get and external region-free firewire unit.
    Hopefully newer models of Macs will have region-free drives. Macs, after all, are marketed a media machines and it's frustrating to those of us that travel or have family in multiple regions that we need to purchase multiple drives simply to access media that we legally have rights to view.
    Incidentally, the other poster mentioned MacTheRipper. Ripping DVDs with it (even possessing the program) is indeed a felony in the US, not that you're likely to get caught. However, it won't help getting around the region code problem since newer Mac drives deny low-level access to the disk data if a region-code mismatch is detected.

  • Question on reinstalling DVD media software on a Satellite A100-049

    When I first ran the System Restore on my Toshiba laptop it put these two on but I can see no way to reinstall them without restoring the entire drive back to when I first bought it. I still have WinDVD installed but have removed Ulead (I forget the exact name of the DVD Media software) and cannot now re-install it.
    Would Toshiba send me a proper installation CD for these?
    Thanks

    Thanks. I was thinking that.
    There's nothing wrong with the actual disc as far as I'm aware. There just appears to be no obvious menu when you run it from Windows. It restores perfectly fine. I wasn't sure if Toshiba would send me "normal" CDs for this software. I'm not after anything more than I get anyway.

  • Odd problems with reading DVD media [concluded]

    There is an odd problem I've encountered...(I'm not sure if its a bug with Arch Linux or Linux in general).
    Firstly, the details:
    * I've updated the systems (using "extra", "current", and "community" respositories). So its the current one (0.80 "Voodoo"). I'm NOT using "Unstable" respository.
    * I've already added the user to the "optical" and "storage" groups. So there's no problems in relations to permissions.
    * My fstab entries for the CD and DVD drives are default (I didn't touch them)...That is, "iso9660" and "udf" respectively.
    * My desktop environment is KDE 3.5.5...And I have changed the behaviour of the desktop icons such that DVD media, CD media, and USB devices will have an icon pop-up as soon as you plug them in.
    * I have "hal" loaded in the DAEMONS of /etc/rc.conf
    * I'm using 4 different Linux systems with the following DVD burners.
    => Pioneer DVR-108
    => Sony DW-Q120A
    => Hitachi-LG GCC-4240N (DVD-ROM/CD-burner combo)
    * There are three Sempron 2800+ (Socket 754, 1.6Ghz) boxes and the last one is on an IBM R40 ThinkPad, and I know you can't read DVD-R media on that. But it should be able to read DVD+R media without issue.
    * Two of the Semprons are running Arch, as well as the ThinkPad. The final Sempron box is running Ubuntu 6.06.1
    * When I installed K3b I did: pacman -S k3b dvd+rw-tools
    * All the DVD media is Verbatim DataLifePlus ones.
    Here's what I've done...
    I've burnt two DVD media (they're just video files from last year's Blender 2006 conference thing, so its legal stuff).
    One is a DVD+R and the other is DVD-R media. Both were done on a Windows 2000 Pro SP4 box using Nero 6.6.1.4
    What's the problem?
    Well, KDE in the Arch Linux boxes doesn't recognise the media!...There is no DVD icon that automatically pops up on any of the Arch Linux boxes!
    When I run dmesg on the Arch boxes, the only relevant info I get is:
    ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3
    ISOFS: changing to secondary root
    Now if I re-insert these DVD media onto an Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS box...The DVD+R works perfectly! While the DVD-R does not.
    When I run dmesg on this box, I get the following:

    If I re-burn the data onto a DVD+RW, Arch and Ubuntu immediately sees it, and KDE (or Gnome in Ubuntu), will have a DVD icon popping up! I can view the video clips without issue!
    Now here's the really odd part...
    When I load up K3b on either Arch OR Ubuntu, they recognise all DVD media! (As in, they can read the media disc information!)...Tools => DiskInfo
    If I click on the PIONEER - DVD-RW DVR-108 on the tree menu on the left side in K3b, (to view the contents of the DVD-R or DVD+R media), it can't read and pops up an error message informing about a read problem. It suggests I try dmesg|tail to see what's wrong.
    When I do that, I get...
    # dmesg|tail
    grow_buffers: requested out-of-range block 18446744073708569376 for device hdc

    grow_buffers: requested out-of-range block 18446744073708569376 for device hdc
    UDF-fs: No partition found (1)
    I repeat the same procedure on DVD+RW, and it works perfectly!
    Should I use another burning application instead of Nero on the Windows box?
    Could it be the way I burn things?
    (Some DVD+R and DVD-R are burnt with multisession while others aren't.)
    Has anyone else experienced similar issues?
    What are your "workarounds" or fixes?

    It *should* work...But they don't.
    I tried this...
    mount -t auto /dev/dvd /mnt/dvd
    I get this...
    mount: block device /dev/dvd is write-protected, mounting read-only
    mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/dvd,
    missing codepage or other error
    In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
    dmesg | tail or so
    I then do dmesg|tail
    grow_buffers: requested out-of-range block 18446744073708569376 for device hdc
    UDF-fs: No partition found (1)
    If I try this...
    mount -t iso9660 /dev/dvd /mnt/dvd
    I get this...
    mount: block device /dev/dvd is write-protected, mounting read-only
    mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/dvd,
    missing codepage or other error
    In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
    dmesg | tail or so
    I then do dmesg|tail
    Unable to identify CD-ROM format.
    If I stick in a DVD-R that is burnt in one go without multisession, I get this in the dmesg
    UDF-fs: Partition marked readonly; forcing readonly mount
    UDF-fs INFO UDF 0.9.8.1 (2004/29/09) Mounting volume 'SW', timestamp 2006/11/07 19:37 (1000)
    It reads this disc perfectly and KDE pops up a DVD icon.
    I'm scratching my head as I'm not sure what is the problem.
    Could it be hal or the way the DVD media was formatted?

  • Trying to reinstall CS5.5 Master Collection from DVD media on Windows 7 64 bit - setup.exe fails due to msxml3.dll error PDApp message [FATAL] PIM - Failed to Create XML instance : DOMDocument40 ADXML::initWithXMLPath Error:80040154

    If anyone is able to solve this they are a genius (or I am doing something very stupid!)
    I am trying to reinstall CS5.5 Master Collection from DVD media on Windows 7 64 bit PC but setup.exe fails due to a msxml3.dll error.
    Following a big bundle of recent Windows 7 updates, I started getting 'bad image' msxml3.dll error messages when opening any CS5.5 master collection program (Eg Premiere / Photoshop / Illustrator / Dreamweaver). Following advice on some threads here I tried uninstalling and then using the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool to clean up install, then reinstalling from my original DVD media.
    Whenever I try using run setup.exe from installtion disc 1 the installing fails due to 'Missing files'. I have also tried dowloading trial versions and runing setup.exe fro mthe downloaded files but i still get the same message.
    I have searched the forum and others have experienced this error but none of the solutions I have found seem to be working for me - as many seem to relate to download installations whereas I am installing from original DVD media (which worked fine before on the same PC)
    These are the FATAL messages from the PDApp log
    12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] PIM - Failed to Create XML instance : DOMDocument40 ADXML::initWithXMLPath Error:80040154
    12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] Setup - Could not initialize ADXML object
    12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] Setup - Unable to initialize. Error parsing setup.xml file
    The PDApp troubleshooting seems to indicate that this is caused by error in downloads but I am getting it with both original media DVD and downloads.
    I have also tried using my logon (which has admin privileges) and under our main admin account - and I get the same errors.
    Is a clean install of Windows 7 + CS5.5 my only option?
    Any help / info / advice / solutions very much appreciated! I have spent the last 2 days trying to sort this out and seem to be getting nowhere.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply kglad - much appreciated.
    I have already tried that option (along with downloading files) as it was one of the solutions mentioned on other threads, but that also failed.
    Any other ideas?

  • Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

    Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

    You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
    which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
    (unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
    Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
    For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
    Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
    No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
    Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
    The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
    To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
    The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion even though that has it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Import dvd to imovie

    I converted home viedos from a vhs to dvd. what do i need to import dvd to imovie so i can edit and combine?

    DVD is a finish format. Its primary purpose is for viewing. It doesn't lend itself well to further digital editing.
    You'll have better results inporting the original VHS into iMovie through an analog-digital converter. Do you still have the VHS tapes?

  • Import javax.media.* is not working

    Hi,
    I'm new to java and i was trying to create a media player using the javax.media package from the JMF. I installed it using the windows setup and it seemed to install correctly. Testing it with the java.sun.com applet tester worked. The media player is also working...
    The only problem is that when i import javax.medis.* it gives me a compiler error:
    package javax.media does not exist
    my code is as follows:
    import java.applet.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.net.*;
    import javax.media.*;
    public class PlayerApplet extends Applet {
         Player player = null;

              if (player.getVisualComponent() != null)
              add("Center", player.getVisualComponent());
              if (player.getControlPanelComponent() != null)
              add("South", player.getControlPanelComponent());
         catch (Exception e){
              System.err.println( "Got exception " + e );
    public void start() {
         player.start();
    public void stop() {
         player.stop();
         player.deallocate();
    public void destroy() {
         player.close();
    } Could someone please help me out here... i've tried all the few probable solutions... but to no avail...

    Well changing the classpath to the correct one still didn't work.... but i still found the solution.
    The Developer Environment that i use is JCreator and it seems it ignores the classpath and has its own settings for the class path... changing this also didn't work.
    What worked was copying the Jar files from the JMF2.1.1e installed location into the path of the original classpath

    Hi.
    I have a newly installed DPM 2012 R2 on a Windows 2012 R2 with a standalone dedicated SQL server which is causing me a bit of a headache right now.
    I'm about to restore some files from an imported tape media, the tape is from our previous DPM server (DPM 2010). I have identified the media and cataloged it and i'm able to browse it to choose wich files to restore. But as soon as i try to

    I'm guessing if you checked your event viewer, you would have the same error after the crash.  I'm hoping Microsoft has a fix for this besides restoring the database...

  • Where to add an answer file to the Windows 8 DVD media

    Hi,
    I would like to use my answer file when manually building computers from the Windows 8 DVD media. Where does the answer need to be stored on the Windows 8 DVD so that Setup will use its settings during the installation process? The last time I did this
    was with Windows XP so I'm not sure if this ability exists with Windows 7 or 8.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hay Dudes, C:\Temp\winpe was my main working directory I added my wim image to C:\Temp\winpe\ISO\sources and used OSCDimg -n -bc:\winpe\iso\boot\etfsboot.com c:\winpe\ISO C:\ITwin7x64.ISO
    Assuming my c:\winpe drive is very basic and as follows
    >dir
     Volume in drive C has no label.
     Volume Serial Number is ACA4-3AB4
     Directory of c:\winpe
    19/09/2014  02:36 PM    <DIR>          .
    19/09/2014  02:36 PM    <DIR>          ..
    13/07/2009  04:20 PM         1,474,560 efisys.bin
    13/07/2009  04:20 PM         1,474,560 efisys_noprompt.bin
    10/06/2009  02:14 PM             4,096 etfsboot.com
    19/09/2014  02:36 PM    <DIR>          ISO
    19/09/2014  02:36 PM    <DIR>          mount
    13/07/2009  08:13 PM       135,115,506 winpe.wim
                   4 File(s)    138,068,722 bytes
                   4 Dir(s)  44,480,479,232 bytes free
    Where would I include the Autounattend.xml file prior to running OSCDimg?. does this file need to be called Autounattend??
    Cheers for any help
