Import dvd movie to ipod

Hi
Is t possible to import a dvd movie into ipod? If so, how?
Regards
DS

Yes, it is possible. The basic process is to convert the movie from the MPEG-2 format of a DVD to a format the iPod supports, typically a variant of the MPEG-4 standard known as H.264, & add it to your iTunes library. This will require significant processing power & time, especially if you want the best compromise of quality & compression. With a G4 Mac, expect the process to take quite a few hours per hour of content converted.
Several applications will do the conversion. Many include presets for iPod-friendly "one button" conversions that do not require any knowledge of which formats the iPod will support.
HOWEVER, note that the legality of copying ("ripping") almost all commercial DVD releases to other media for any purpose is questionable at best, & certainly so if you do not own the DVD or have specific permission or a clear legal right to do so. This is not the place to discuss the nuances of the Fair Use principle or the implications of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, so all I will say about it here is respect the property rights of others just as you would want them to respect yours & don't steal movies.

If you want a really organized package for ripping your dvds into .mp4 "ipod" format use the dvd Decrypter and Videora ipod conveter. They are very organized and they put you in control of the video/audio settings... And it couldn't be easier. Here are the links if you wanna give these FREE programs a shot
    Videora ipod converter - http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
    Dvd Decrypter - http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/
ps... You need both because after ripping your dvd it becomes a .vob file..Ipod cannot read this so you must use videora to make it an .mp4 "ipod friendly" format.. Reply if problems occur please!!! Thanks...

  • THE SIMPLEST WAY TO GET A DVD MOVIE IN IPOD VIDEO IN 2-3 HRS

I just got the Ipod video and got Quick time 7pro and everything but it is not the right software to play a DVD or get a dvd movie into ipod. So i tell you exactly what to do: go to carrydvd.com, find the version for use on symbian and psp. download it to test it or buy it to be able to convert a whole dvd movie. When you have the software ready you just put the DVD in, on the screen go where it says select video quality: PSP (MP4) Hi quality. go to screen size select 320X240 (PSP, PALM OR WINCE) PRESS PLAY BUTTON AND IT WILL COMPRESS. WHEN FINISH YOU GO TO ITUNES AND IN FILE GO TO ADD FILE TO LIBRARY, LOCATE THE MOVIE YOU JUST COMPRESSED AND ADD IT TO THE LIBRARY, THEN CONNECT THE IPOD AND JUST PUT THE MOVIE FROM THE LIBRARY TO THE IPOD AND IS READY. I JUST GOT IN MY IPOD TROY WITH THE QUALITY OF A BOUGHT VIDEO OF ITUNES MUSIC STORE.

  • Transferring DVD movies to iPod w/Video

I bought the new 60g iPod w/video soley because I thought I could transfer and watch DVD movies (the hollywood kind), onto my iPod the same way I did with music... Can anyone tell me how to do this? I have DVD "One Click DVD" burner software on my PC and when I try to import into iTunes it's not recognizing the file. Can anyone help me out with this???!!!
Also, anyone know when they will release a decent case, the one that came with it is pretty lame!

Sorry, Jeff, but commercial video DVDs are copy-protected. Breaking the copy protection is illegal in the US, so discussing ways of doing it are not allowed here (since the US courts have been holding in some cases that even discussing in print such cracking may be illegal). If you're outside the US where such de-encryption is legal (though it's up to you to make sure that your use of the material is legal), search around the net and you'll find places that can provide tools for de-encrypting the files for use.

  • How do you import a movie for Ipod

How can you put a DVD movie on the new IPOD?

Actually, what you want to do is illegal in the US (and probably Canada too) since it requires breaking the copyright protection on DVDs. As such, even discussion of methods is prohibited by the [terms of use of this site|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa]
A DVD wouldn't play in itunes anyway since it isn't a supported format.

  • Importing Videos & Movies to IPOD

Can I import DVDs that I own into my itunes library? Or do I have to purchase them from itunes store.
I thought I would be able to import the ones I already own. Any help?

If you are referring to commercially produced DVD movies, unfortunately, because of copyright issues discussing this subject is not permitted on Apple's forums as the Apple Discussions User Agreement now clearly states.
Under item 2, para 8.2 it says "Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store."

I have QT Pro. Can I use that to convert DVD movies that I own to my iPod? If not, is there a way to do it?

I have QT Pro. Can I use that to convert DVD movies that I own to my iPod?
Not by itself. You would sill have to use additional utilities to rip, extract, strip, and/or preconvert before it would be ready for QT Pro to handle.
If not, is there a way to do it?
I believe "You get what you pay for" and so would probably recommend a good multipurpose commercial application over a one of the current "freebies" or multi-application approches. Here are a couple you may wan to look at or trial test:

  • Import dvd movie

How can I import a dvd movie into the iMac?

If your OS will let you you can drag & drop the movies folder with files from the DVD to your Mac's HDD. But if the movie is copy protected the OS may not allow you to copy the files. On DVDs where you can copy the files, still if the movie is copy protected if you try to play the movie from your HDD your OS will ask for you to insert the original DVD to authenticate this copy protected copy before it will play it.
Anything beyond this is not somethig about which we can leagally offer solutions for  in the Apple Support Communities.

  • Download dvd movie to ipod 3g

Please will someone tell me if I can download my own dvd movie to my 3g nano for my holidays soon? I know I can buy movies but I have this already and have not managed to watch it, its called busy girl, (work full time) and would really like to watch it all the way though without my boyfriend switching over as he is likely to do if I try and watch it at home.
Thanks everyone you helped me last time when I made a mess of my new 3g now I really need you.

If you mean commercially released films or TV shows on DVD I'm afraid that can't be discussed as that involves breaking the encryption on them. Such discussions are against the terms of use. • How to get dvd movies onto ipod with windows

Okay, I have finally figured out how to get movies from DVD to ipod for windows users, and it's free, with no watermarks. It involves a 2-program process. First go and download Videora Ipod Converter at http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
Then download DVDFab Decrypter at http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
Now after you have installed these onto your computer:
    1. Insert the DVD into your disc drive.
    2. Open DVDFab and open the DVD folder, video_ts or whatever it happens to be
    3. Select your target destination for the files to be saved
    4. Click start to begin copying the DVD.
    5. Once everything is done being saved open videora ipod converter
    6. Go to setup and select the one click profile which size of video you would like and the output of the files
    7. Go to convert and select new transcode video, find your video file and select open
    8. Wait for the file to be completed transcoding
    9. Open itunes and select file, add file to library, find the file(s) and select okay
    10. Most of you should know what to do form here

For anyone who wants to get up and running, these are the settings I use for Videora.
After days of experimenting, I settled on the settings below which seem to give a good balance between filesize and quality. There will be a bit of blockiness in the dark shadows but if it's too much, just increase the 'bitrate'. Experiment with a short video, but make sure the video you experiment with is very high quality or you won't know what is or isn't down to your settings.
Again, don't use h264. Only Quicktime Pro has h264 nailed. You may be able to get some things to work in h264 but more likely, you'll be watching a movie and it will suddenly stop, or your iPod's hard disk will start munching away to a black screen. mpeg-4 works fine in Videora, always. No problems.

    Mode: MPEG-4 > CBR
    Resolution: 320 x 240
Passes: One (two makes almost no difference except doubling the time)
    Bitrate: 384kbps
    Framerate: Input
    Audio
    Bitrate: 96kbps
    Channels: Stereo
    Sample Rate: Input

  • Transfer DVD movies to ipod

I am presently using software called podmaxx video to transfer DVD s to my ipod. Since upgrading to the latest
versions of itunes I have been unable to transfer movies to my ipod. The process locks when it gets to the copy part. Has there been something put into itunes to prevent the copying of movies other than movies copied from the itunes store? If so this is a conspriracy.

I am not familiar with the podmaxx software, but I do know that DVDs encoded with Videora iPod Converter using an H.264 CBR profile transfer with no issue to my 5G iPod via iTunes 7. Apple did make changes to the the supported video resolutions and profiles in the last firmware update for the video iPods, however these mainly increased the resolution that could be used... anything that worked before should still work now.
I would reset the iPod and make sure that I was using the latest firmware.
