Import, edit, and export QuickTime document: wise? how to maintain quality?

Can iMovie HD 6.0.3 be used to import a reasonably-high-quality QuickTime file (Apple Graphics compression), edit it, and export to Quicktime, all resulting in a QuickTime file with the same clarity as the original?
I have a quicktime file that captures a demonstration on my desktop. It was recorded with SnapZ Pro (with movie option) into this format: Apple Graphics, 889 x 500, 256, IMA 4:1, Mono, 22.050 kHz. (Note: I got 889x500 when I constrained SnapZ to a 16x9 format.)
I need to clip out sections, rerecord some of the audio, insert snippets of replacement video (re-recorded). I have Quicktime 7.1.3 Pro, but I had this idea it would be easier to do this editing with IMovie HD 6.0.3.
My problem is that everything I export has noticeably worse quality than the original source. I have tried all sorts of projects (DV, HDV, MPEG-4, ISight). I've tried exports at full quality, lower quality, various expert settings.
For example:
- Create a DV-Widescreen project.
- Import the movie. What I see on the screen is slightly smaller (in both dimensions) than the QuickTime Player shows me, and quite noticeably blurrier.
- Picking Expert export, I use Compression: Graphics, Depth: Color, Quality: Best, key frame rate 24, Dimensions 889x500, Scale: Letterbox.
- The QuickTime file displays as the right size, with a tiny black border for letterboxing, and with crummy quality (text has shadows, making it worse than just blurry.) All this despite being 30MB from a 3.2MB original.
Quite likely, I'm using the wrong tool. I don't have a camcorder - I don't even have a TV - so I don't know any of the jargon. What would be the right tool for this task? Stick to Quicktime Pro?

How would Final Cut Express work for editing quicktime as above?
same answer:
FCE handles dv/NTSC/PAL only ...-
for sure, you can import "any format/res" ...- with loss of quality, if import doesn't fit standards...- and: FCE is the "more mightier" tool, means, you can easiely arrange two/many videos in one picture, arrange them, position them ...-
if you want to stay with your original settings, you have to use QTpro (less convenient) or FCP (less cheap) ...

You can use iTunes on your computer to copy over files to specific Apps on your iPad with which you can then edit the document.

Browse the store for Apps that can read and edit your files, and that support at least iTunes file share so you can transfer your files over to them.

  • How to edit and save a document in Pages

How do I edit and save a document in Pages with MacBook Air

    1) Do you want to edit a .doc(x) and then save it as a .doc(x) again? You'll need to be a bit more specific
    2) Pages is an analogy to MS Word, so editing would be just as simple as typing. Go to 'Help' in the menu bar in Pages and then select 'Pages Help' to enter How-to's and Tutorials from Apple on using Pages.

  • Any Complete Tutorials On How To Edit And Export MIDI Files In GB?

Hi. A friend sent me about 25 nice standard MIDI files that all open fine in QT Pro. She wants me to drag and drop them into GarageBand 2, attempt to edit them, change sounds and then export them out as the edited versions, key changes, added bars, change instrument sounds, etc,. Although I'm a trained musician who understands form, I really don't have a clue on how to use GB to edit and export standard MIDI files. Can this be done effectively in GB ver 2 or 3?
Basically what she then wants to do is take the edited MIDI tracks, put them into itunes I guess on her iBook G4 or Ipod and do a solo act playing her keyboard live and usibg the MIDI tracks as background.
Are there any links to step by step tutorials on how I can lerarn this procedure? Please offer any advice and links if you can and thanks for your help

Not really practical, I'm afraid. Capturing screenshots and cutting them up is possible with Photoshop, but PDF editing is very limited (fix a typo, move a picture).

  • I have a sony hdr td 20ve 3d video camera. Is it possible to import into iMovie 11, edit and export in 3D? I have an iMac 2008 model running Lion 10.7.4

Is it possible to import 3d from the Sony 3D videocamera, model HDR TD 20VE into iMovie 11, edit and export the files to iDVD and produce a disc that plays on a 3d compatible DVD player?

Yes, you can purchase Lion as well as iPhoto and iMovie from the App Store. But before you can do that you must update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 by installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 update. Then you can sign into the App Store with your Apple ID and password, locate the items you want, purchase them, and download them to your computer.

  • I work with Premiere Pro on a mac and export quicktime movies to be played on pc's or mac's

I work with Premiere Pro on a mac and export quicktime movies to be played on pc's or mac's. When I export a qt from Premiere with audio it will not play on a pc only a mac. After extensive research I have narrowed down the problem to this: if you use the inspector in quicktime it looks like this
    DV, 720 x 480 (640 x 480), Millions
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
I have to run it thru AE to make it look like this....then it plays
    DV, 720 x 480 (640 x 480), Millions
16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
SOOOO the problem is the Little/Big Endian. I googled that and it looks like a file/bit structure....anyone know how/why to change it in Premiere? Because everytime I make a movie in Prem I have to drag the sequence into AE and render it there so the sounds works.....
    thanks

    Two questions:
    1. What CODEC are you choosing when exporting on the Mac?
    2. Do you have any Blackmagic hardware/software installed?
    Cheers

  • Does adobe Premiere Pro CC edit and export 4k and higher video resolutions?

Hey Guys I am new the forum but have been using adobe products for years. I am having some problems finding if Adobe Premiere Pro CC effectively lets you edit and export video at 4k and higher. I am having a custom built computer to specifically handle high resolution output and video editing. I have a 5k monitor to go with it as we;;. Long story short is I need to make sure I can edit and export at full resolution. I am not interested in compressing the video output to 1080P from a 4k video input source. It would be a shame if I have to learn a completely new software program for my business because I have loved previous versions of the adobe premiere pro. any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I am expected to get my custom build back this afternoon. Thanks in advance for any help provided!

  • Need an app to edit and sign word documents (sign with stylus)! Notability let's me sign but doesn't pull up letter head, quickofficepro let's me edit but not sign. Looking for an app that does both

I am looking for an app where I can edit word documents as well as sign them.  I am a physical therapist whose looking to cut down on paper work.  Someone types my evaluations and then we print them out for me to edit by hand and then they go back and make the corrections on the computer then w print them and sign them to send off.  Recently I have begun using apps where I can pull up the document and edit it thru quickofficepro or through cloudon, but I cannot sign them using a stylus pen.  I also have notability which I can use to sign the documents, but it doesn't save the document as a doc, it's either a PDF or rtf. Also, in notability, it doesn't pull up the letter head for our company which is a template with our logo on it.  So I need an app where I can both edit and sign my documents by hand using a stylus.  If someone could provide me with any relevant information I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you for your time.

I had quicktime pro, I upgraded to snow leapoard and installed iLife and lost quicktime pro. How do I get it back.  I tried re installing quicktime but it will not let me??

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)

  • Can You Edit And Export 60 fps Video With iMovie 10.0.5?

So the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus let you shoot video at 60 fps, right?
Well, my question is, can iMovie 10.0.5 for the Mac let you actually edit and export this video, maintaining its 60 fps frame rate?

I posted what I found to this thread iMovie 11 10.14 Exporting a 60fps file to Maverick?

  • Editing and Exporting Audio Track Only

Is it possible to just edit and export the audio track from a project that contains video and audio? I turned off the video track, and was able to make edits on the audio track but when I export the edited audio track entire unedited audio track is exported.

That did it. I didn't have the audio timeline material selected as the active window.
    Many thanks.

  • Import and Export ODF documents in iWork

How can one import/export ODF documents into/from iWork applications?

For import you will either need to convert them to one of the formats supported by iWork or use copy/paste.
ODF is not one of the formats supported by iWork for export either.
Best to use OpenOffice or another app which does support that format if that feature is required.
You can ask Apple to add this via

  • Need help editing and exporting using Final Cut Express - why does video end up with judder?!!

I've imported material from my JVC HD Camera and have edited a 52 minute sequence on Final Cut Express. I've exported it as a Quicktime Movie and it's 43GB. How do I get this on to DVD?
I've tried using iDVD to export but as you can imagine, the quality is not great. There's a judder on it. I have no idea where to start with using applications like MPEG Streamclip to convert the clip so that when it does get on to DVD, it doesn't judder. Can anyone help? This is driving me insane!!

I've exported it as a Quicktime Movie and it's 43GB. How do I get this on to DVD?
First step - just use this export as the import into iDVD.  iDVD will take care of the necessary encoding to fit it on a DVD disk.  The file size is of no concern; the only concern is the length (in time) of the video ... iDVD can fit about 2 hours of video on single layer DVD media; about 4 hours on dual-layer DVD media.
Regarding the judder, this is not specifically an iDVD issue. Do you see the judder when you play the video  in the FCE Canvas window?

  • EXIF data lost when edited and exported to Picasa web

I use iPhoto 6. If a geotagged photo is scaled and exported to Picasa web, then the EXIF data are preserved and recognized by Picasa web. But if the same photo is edited (crop, contrast...) and then exported to Picasa web, then the EXIF data don't appear. I've tried the export operation manually and through the plugin, but it always happens the same. How to avoid this? Does it happen too with iPhoto 8? Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes and no. With iPhoto 8 you can export with an option to include the keywords, titles and comments. But I don't know if geotags are included. Ask in the iPhoto 8 forum as I know geotags have been discussed there. Do a search in that forum for "geotags" or similar.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
