Import eps or pdf as image

Hi everybody:
Anybody know how to import eps or pfd files into a pdf document, onto an existing page? as an image, not as a page?

Does that work in Acrobat Adobe Pro XI? That is what I use and it does not want to do it. Maybe there is a setting or function that needs to be turned on?

  • Importing EPS to PDF with Ghostscript looses the grouping

    Hi,
I used Ghostscript to import a EPS to a PDF file and the grouping EPS file has seem to be loosing while generating the PDF. Can someone let me know whether the grouping can be retrained? I would like to know whether the "grouping" "ungrouping" is a specific feature in Illustrator which can't be retrained.
The following are the links to the EPS and PDF file for your reference.
    Dropbox - survivor book.eps
    Dropbox - survivor_book.pdf
If the grouping can indeed be retained while converting with Ghostscript, please let me know how to do the same.
Or if there are other ways to convert to PDF using which the grouping can be retained, let me know the same too.
    Thanks,
    Leena

Sorry for the confusion, I will explain more about the relation between Illustrator and Ghostscript. I am working on a web application which allows the users to create designs which can be used for custom printing. The application allows the user to upload EPS files as artworks, add custom text etc and in the end the generates a PDF which will be shared with the printer.
We are using Ghostscript for importing the EPS files and creating the final PDF file which includes the uploaded artwork(s) and any text(s) the user has added.
Now the problem that we've faced while importing the EPS file using Ghostscript is that, it removes the "grouping" that was present in the EPS file while converting to the PDF file. So my question was whether you can help me by giving some pointers to retain the group by using tools such as Ghostscript. Please let me know the appropriate forum where I can ask similar questions.
I had asked this question in Ghostscript forum but didn't get a clear answer.
    Thanks,
    Leena

  • Importing .eps images in MDM

Hi There, i'm trying to use the data manager to import images into the MDM database of .eps format. I have the photoshop options selected but i'm still getting the MDM Server Error message whenever i try to import an .eps image. Has anyone been able to import these types of images into MDM?

    Hi Adams,
Yes.Importing .eps file is working perfectly fine for me.
I executed the below steps :
1)Choose Images table from table list in Data manager.
2)In Records pane, Right click > Add .
    3) In the pop up window, select Data group >Language (if reqd) > Add .eps files from local drive.
While executing above step, choose the radio button ' Store in repository'.
Note : A data group hierarchy is a must. Incase child nodes are absent in Data Groups, use 'Edit' and add a child/sibling/parent in Data Group.
Please let me know if this resolves .

  • EPS and PDF?

i know i cannot get multi-page PDF's (slideshows) into Aperture but is there a way to /convert/ these to a file format Aperture can handle?
also, does anyone have any experience with whether i can get EPS into Aperture?
    TIA

hi frank. thank you and apologies.
this sort of thing is hard to track and manage while trying to organize other data as well.
am i correct in understanding that this method basically will import the pdf as image files (as if you ran a Save As > tiff or jpg operation in Acrobat?
i mean, i do have a need for images of my pdf's but if i am storing the pdf that they came from (which i still need) separately from the imported images this all gets a bit unmanageable.
for instance i have some drawings in a pdf. i am storing this in a folder. i now need to be able to use individual pages of pdf to see if i can get vector data out of this pdf, but i also need some raster image files of these pages. right now i am just dumping all of this into a finder folder and moving it all around with only my /memory/ to remember what is where. so i am finding i am doing a lot of reorganizing of all this data week after week and month after month. then if i add in EPS files (the vector) to all of this and the fact that i can't apparently store the multipage PDF it seems like Aperture is not the tool to use for this. or - say i have a PDF "slideshow" but also a version of this that is in mov file fomat.
it is starting to seem like Aperture is not the correct organizational tool for all of this and that i should move to some kind of managed database tool that will let me store the data as "referenced" info but also like me get some kind of "meta" organization to all of it.
right now i am organizing and re-organizing over and over to keep it corralled.
maybe DevonThink is the way to go for this? or even Bento or something...?

  • Importing eps files into keynote (or pages)

    hi,
i'm running keynote 3 and used to have no trouble at all simply dragging (or importing) eps graphic files into keynote presentations. then for no apparent reason i lost the ability to do this and now when i try to import any eps files, keynote just hangs.
    can anyone help?

    njmitham,
    welcome to Apple Discussions.
EPS files are converted to PDF when you drag them to keynote. The same happens when you open the EPS file with Preview.app.
So, try to open the EPS file with Preview and see what happens. It might not be a Keynote problem but a problem with an image library.

  • Bridge CS4 won't output to pdf multiple images with same filename

Hiya...my googling efforts have thus far failed!
I've got CS4, and in Bridge, I created a New Smart Collection to find all filenames in a folder containing "." or ".jpg" - which in turn searched through all the subfolders like what you used to be able to do in Photoshop CS3.  Very simple stuff, but all the images are jpg's, but in multiple folders (I don't want to move them out of the folders, as the files came from an external source, and there are heaps of folders, and I don't want to pdf each subfolder seperately as it will take forever).
The problem is that some of the files have the same filenames (again I'd prefer not to rename, as it happens a lot on this project, and they are all over the place).  So whilst Bridge will show the thumbnail images correctly in the content tabbed screen in my New Smart Collection, but once I've done the Output to PDF thing, for example, instead of showing both different images it has pdf only the first image but repeated it twice.  And this happens multiple times throughout the pdf, the more times the same filename is used, the more times the first image gets repeated.
I know that it is messy to have multiple similar filenames, but why can't bridge just place the image anyway?  It allocated a space for it on the pdf and does show it in bridge, it just doesn't seem to survive the transfer to pdf well.
The only other thing that I have done is use the below link (which was posted on another adobe forum thread) to create a custom pdf output template (nothing too fancy, just number of rows / columns, size, font etc).  But I've tried using the standard bridge templates and it does the same thing.
    http://www.proficiografik.com/2009/08/03/save-custom-pdf-output-template-in-adobe-bridge-c s4.html
Any help would be appreciated...even if to tell me that I am being unreasonable!
    UPDATE 16/11/09
Just to let you know that I seem to have resolved the bug inadvertently with one of the Adobe updates. The below is the link for the AdobeOutputModule-2.1-mul-AdobeUpdate.zip which was released on 2/19/2009 - which allows for headers & footers to be placed in the Ouput pdf. I finally installed it today, and everything seems to be working fine now (i.e. I can pdf multiple images with the same filenames and the pdf will actually show each different image rather than repeating only 1 of the images).
Must have been a fix installed in the contact sheet templates that get installed with the update - not sure why the original version was corrupted, but I've left that with the Adobe guys (I submitted a bug report - and they were able to replicate the problem but hadn't fixed it as yet).

When I click import from disc I am asked to choose a disc and then I get this message:
The following photos will not be imported because they are already present in the catalog. To see these photos in the catalog select 'Show in Library' (the import will be canceled).
This is followed by a long list of images. If I click 'Show in Library' I can see all the images with the same filename. And then they start to automatically write over those images with images from the disc. However they keep the same metadata and keywords from the previous images. If I click on Import and deselect the "don't reimport suspected duplicates" box, it imports only the images that don't share filenames and none of the images that do.
Is there a way of setting the "Don't reimport suspected duplicates" box in preferences?

  • Importing Microsoft Word document with images to InDesign CS5

    Hey,
I'm trying to import a MS Word document that contains inline images to InDesign CS5.
I tried File->Place with checking "Import Inline Graphics" but unfortunately it imports the document without the images, there are blank regions where the images are suppose to be.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Kathy

Yes, aligning image on its own paragraph works, I will skip wraping text inside paragraph, this can be done inside InDesign. Here is one part of Internet PDF books I am talking about, both are in Serbian http://issuu.com/bojan_zivkovic/docs/prikazivanje_slika_u_adobe_photoshop_elements - word + indesign, http://www.scribd.com/doc/49583823/Nau%C4%8Dite-Adobe-Photoshop   - indesign only
Basicaly I am writing tutorials then turn them into PDF books, for now.
Thank you, I never try to insert image on its own paragraph.

  • Error when importing EPS files in Publisher 2010

Whenever I attempt to insert an EPS file (possibly other image types as well) into a Publisher document I get a prompt asking for what type of file the source is and then this error:
    "An
error occurred while importing this file."
This is running as a Citrix Published Application running on Server 2008 R2 and I've found that this does not happen outside of Citrix.  If i login directly to the server via RDP or right from the console I do not get this issue.  I've posted in
the Citrix Forums and it looks like this is something to do with MS Publisher and not being able to use the Explorer shell.
    http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?threadID=307437
Researched this error and found this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224744 (This is unacceptable since the file needs to be in EPS format to keep functionality)
There was another article but I cannot find it for the life of me at this time but it suggested that you uninstall and reinstall Office or repair Office.
I did both with no luck.
I am able to get Citrix to open up publisher with the shell by initiating this command:
    explorer.exe /root,D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\MSPUB.exe
With this command firing up Publisher I'm able to import EPS files with no problem.  However I cannot pass an argument to this command so double clicking documents in our Citrix portal do not open up the document but rather just opens up a blank Publisher
file.  So this isn't a good "solution."
I should not have to make this command to just be able to import images as a workaround.  Anyone run into this in their Citrix environments?  Microsoft, do you have anything that can be tweaked with Publisher to allow this to work as normal in
    a Citrix environment?

I was able to get a workaround for this. I made a .cmd and put this into it:
    if [%1]==[] explorer2.exe /root,D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\MSPUB.exe %1
    if [%1] NEQ [] "D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\MSPUB.exe" %1
You will need to change your paths to your MSPub.exe and if you are using explorer.exe change that as well.  We use explorer2.exe since we've found issues with using the original explorer.exe.
Once you have that CMD file made.  Save it to your Xenapp boxes in the same location and then point your published app to that file to launch Publisher.
This worked for us but I'm not sure  if it will work for anyone else but give it a go and let me know.

  • Can imported EPS color graphic print as black in CS3 (Mac)?

I am switching to ID from PageMaker 6 (Mac) and wonder why the newly opened document will only print graphic files (EPS) in composite gray instead of black? There is no option for black output except for text. All other options are Composite gray, RGB, CMKY, etc. I'm using Mac OS 10.4.11 and an old HP 2100M black/white printer and have to fax output to customer for approval. Black text and gray images on the same document is not too cool!
Pagemaker allows you to select "print colors in black" in the print dialog box and everything prints in black. Why doesn't ID seem to offer the same thing, or did I miss something?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

    Hi Bob,
I was afraid you'd tell me that. InDesign can't print a graphic in
black on a B/W printer... not great Adobe. I'm kind of surprised
seeing that PageMaker does it easily. Is it the same for ID CS5?
Trouble is I have literally thousands of PM documents with imported
EPS files. I know EPS is now an obsolete file format, but the reality
of it is that's what I have to work with. To have to go back to each
and every file+ and re-create the graphic in black & white just isn't
feasible. I guess I'll have to reconsider the imminent switch to ID a
    bit more.
Appreciate the feedback, even though it wasn't what I wanted to
    hear. : )
    Thanks,
    Chuck

  • Adjust page boundary when converting eps to pdf

Hi, I have a problem with the page boundaries when converting eps files to pdf files. The resulting pdf page boundary is the bare minimum around the eps objects, leading to different page sizes when the pdf is viewed on screen. I would like all of my pdf objects to have the standard letter (8.5 by 11 inch) page boundary. Furthermore, when the pdf is printed the size of the objects is not to to the same scale as the eps file (which was created in adobe illustrator), and the orientation of the picture is often rotated to what is displayed on the eps or pdf file! Can anybody help me with this problem?

I opened Distiller from the regular programs menu. I have a job settings file selected that has a 8.5X11 size. I opened a 5.5X7.5 EPS file in Distiller and it creates a PDF with the image at the bottom of the 8.5X11 page. You can also simply open the PDF that you already have and print to a new PDF -- selecting expand to fit if desired.

  • Importing Word 2007  documents: linked images getting duplicated!

If I import a Word 2007 document (.docx) to a page in
Dreamweaver CS4, either by File-> import or drag and drop,
images (in the /web_images folder) for which I have already
inserted hyperlinks in the Word document, are getting duplicated
and the link in the Dreamweaver page now points to the new,
duplicate, image, not the original. For example, an image, say
bike.jpg gets copied to bike_000.jpg and the web page link points
    to /web_images/bike000.jpg.
This is not only clumsy, it is asking for trouble if for any
reason an image needs to be updated or whatever somewhere down the
    road.
I have tried importing with both full and just basic
formatting, but the result is the same. I haven't found anything in
    Dreamweaver preferences about this.
    Any ideas?

    Hi again
    Thanks for the clarification.
Okay, so really what you are doing is identical to clicking File > Import > Word Document, because all you are doing by choosing PDF is pre-selecting PDF as the listed file types. Once you change it to point to Word documents it's no different.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Resaving pdfs and image quality

I have clients submit ads as pdfs but sometimes I need to recreate the pdf because the client forgot to include all printer marks, or I need to convert a spot to process, or whatever. The way I do it is to create a new InDesign CS3 file, place the pdf file into it, and export to pdf using my preset. My question is does importing a pdf file into ID and then exporting back into pdf affect image quality, even slightly assuming the compression settings are the same in the export to pdf' dialog box - mainly all compression set to none?
    Thanks.
    -Mark

    New Bie:
Many of the adjustments you want to make can be done to the PDF within Acrobat if you have the Acrobat Professional version.
Such as: convert colors, add printers marks and change Page Box sizes.
You'll find these tools under the "Advanced" menu > "Print Production"
And also under the "Document" menu > Crop Pages > Change Page Size

  • Import EPS files? Plugin?

I can export EPS to maintain vector data, but can I import EPS files, while maintaining vector data?
If not, is there any way to open vector data in Photoshop?
    A plug-in?

Photoshop cannot import the paths in general.  If you copy paths from Illustrator and paste them into Photoshop, we can convert the AICB data to Photoshop paths.  If you place or open a file, Photoshop can't do that (it can't handle general case EPS or PDF paths).
But placing an EPS or PDF file will retain the vector nature, so you can resize, rotate, color convert, etc. the content without losing the vector quality.  That was added with the Smart Objects feature a while back.
