  • Can I import a tablespace into Oracle 10g Express Edition

I am very new to Oracle 10g Express Edition. We have a server running Oracle Enterprise Edition and we have been creating a transportable tablespace to be imported into a few servers. This works fine for us. I would like to find out if I can import the tablespace into Oracle 10g Express Edition. Someone told me that I should be able to do that but I have no clue to how to do it. If this is possible, can someone tell where to find the information how to do this.
    Thanks,
    RJ

I finally tried it and I got the following errors:
IMP-00017: following statement failed with ORACLE error 721:
    "BEGIN sys.dbms_plugts.checkCompType('COMPATSG','10.2.0.2.0'); END;"
    IMP-00003: ORACLE error 721 encountered

    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_PLUGTS", line 2004
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
Am I right that the server that I exported the tablespace is using Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 while Oracle Express is 10.2.0.1.0? I looked around and I did not see Oracle Express version 10.2.0.2.0 that I can download. Is there a patch or something to upgrade it?
    Thanks,

  • Backing up all data and objects of Oracle 10g Express Edition...

    Hi,
I have tables, packages, views, procedures, etc. in Oracle 10g Express Edition, running on Windows XP. I would like to create a backup of the complete database (objects, relationships, all data, etc) into a file that I can restore in case the database crashes.
    What do I do?
    Thanks.

    markk2 wrote:
I am actually using it for Production. Yes, I would need objects and data.I would suggest to look at the Standard Edition as well if you are using it for production.
Is there a way to backup everything without data and then backup everything with data? Also, is there a way to restore everything without data and then restore everything with data? What's the meaning of "backup everything withiut data" and "then backup everything with data" ? The data is in the tables alone. The rest of the objects are not containing data but are using it, be it views, procedures etc. There is no such restore like without data. Without data, all what you would be getting would be structures of the tables which is going to be of no use. The export/import tool, is a simple tool which can put the tables (and other objects as well) along with their data in your dumpfile . In the situation of loss of a table, you can do an import from that dump file and you can restore the table back(with or without data, depends on the choice of yours while running Import command) . But this is just going to be a logical recovery of the object(s). For a complete database, it's better to use RMAN which would copy the datafiles and keep it with itself. Later, when you have a crash, you can restore those files to get teh database recovered. But if you want complete security, its better to put your db in the archive log and then do the backup along with the archive log files.

How to do this exactly? Thanks!

  • Oracle 10G Express Edition backup issues

After a backup job is run on our Oralce 10g Express Edition Server our system users can't access their web login page -
http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex - To access their databse.
What i need to know is this.
I do a daily backup of the Oracle DB manually, the one that comes with express edition, but when the backup is comple users can't access the afforementioned web address as i have stated
1 - Does anyone know what can be causing this?
2 - When i backup the database manually where does the database actually backup to?
3 - I was thinking of backing up the Oralce DB manually usning XE's own backup then running Symatec backup Software to backup this file.In the event of a system crash i could then simply restore the operating system (windows 2003), reinstall XE and import the file i had backedup with XE . Does this sound like a good solution

No idea why users cant access the login page, maybe trying to post on XE forum Oracle Database Express Edition (XE) may help for this.
But you may use Rman with XE, it is a best practice for Oracle B&R and it is easy to control the backup destination with Rman - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/admin.102/b25107/backrest.htm#sthref414
Also these demos may help - http://psoug.org/reference/rman_demos.html
    Best regards.

  • An issue while installing oracle 10g express edition on Ubuntu 10.04-64bit

    Hi,
I'm running into an issue while installing oracle 10g express edition on my Ubuntu 10.04-64 bit installed machine using oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb package. The issue actually came up when I was trying to reinstall the package after uninstalling it due to some problem I had with my login credentials. To elaborate further on it, the /etc/init.d/oracle-xe script does not get created when I execute the debian package and thus i'm unable to configure the required credentials and stuff after the installation. I doubt whether this has something to do with the procedure I followed when uninstalling the previous package it. But what I did was just what's mentioned in the following [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25144/toc.htm] user guide published by oracle.
Another important clue would be, the platform of my machine is amd64bit although I'm dealing with an installation package preferred for i386. But I believe it's the only thing available in the oracle software download section. Hence I had to use the --force-architecture option to install it. But after reading some post published on this forum, I've figured out that it does not affect the usual execution of the software. Anyway,  I would greatly appreciate some help on this matter.

    Hi,
Finally I've managed to find a solution for this issue. Thanks a lot for all the replies.
Here's how I got rid of it.
Addressing all the facts one by one,
1.The problem of not getting the /etc/init.d/oracle-xe script generated was avoided
by removing all the configuration files that were previously created while installing
the product. The following command can be used to accomplish that task.
    *$ dpkg --purge oracle-xe*
2.Next, Initially the password I used during the configuration process was "admin".
Although I tried a couple of times installing the product providing the aforementioned
password, the web UI kept prompting "Invalid Credentials" message not allowing me
to login. But, this particular issue could be avoided by giving some other simple
    password.
Finally, got it working and once again thanks a bunch for taking the burden of
    replying this thread.
    Cheers,
    Prabath

  • 10g Express Edition; Problem saving updates in Script Editor

I'm running 10g Express Edition on Windows XP Media Center with SP3 with Internet Explorer 7.
I start with 'Go to Database Home Page'.
    Then take the path Home>SQL>SQL Scripts>Script Editor;
I've created a Script called HW.
I make some changes to the script
Then I click the 'Save' button.
Then I click the icon for my HW script.
But when I look at my script my updates are not there.
This does not happen all the time.
Sometimes the save seems to work, and sometimes it doesn't.
I've noticed the same thing with Run. Sometimes my changes
will appear in the script that got Run. Sometimes they won't.
Any ideas on what I need to be doing to consistently Save my
updates in Script Editor? fwiw, I like Script Editor for what I need
to do - create scripts, export them as .sql files, etc. But I'm not
opposed to using another tool to do this.
    Thanks.

but i need how to link this script into the Setup file.
i urgently need ur help bro.................. let me know if u have some idea to fix this problem.
    thz for advance.

It is important to define which OS you are working with.
Making a blind guess I will assume your are working on a windows environment (after this file fragment: "Dir=d:\oraclexe\TEST")
In order to perform a silent install on a windows environment you should:
    - download the appropriate installation executable - eg. OracleXE.exe
         - download one of the silent install response file templates
         - edit the template with appropriate values for the install questions
         - run the Oracle XE installation and specify the location of the edited response file using a command similar to the following: OracleXE.exe /s /f1"<location of edited response file> /f2"<location of silent install log>

    G'Day Apex gurus,
I installed Oracle Database 10g Express edition in my Windows XP PC which comes with Apex 2.1 with no problems. Then I wanted to upgrade Apex 2.1 to 3.2.1 (Currently Apex download in OTN) following the document below:

Then to change the password for the admin account run apxchpwd.sql and when prompted enter a password for the ADMIN account.
    @apxchpwd
    with not problems
Then I connected to SQL*Plus as SYS by:
    sqlplus /nolog
    CONNECT SYS as SYSDBA
    Enter password: xxxxxxxxxxx
but when I tried to run:

My database version is 10.2.0.1.0 Oracle express.
    Operating system is Windows Vista.
I started installing using the following commands.
    @ C:\temp\apex\apexins.sql
it prompts me for the values of sysaux sysaux temp and c:\temp\apex\images\
If I supply the value for images the sqlplus window closes after scrolling a lot of info.
Enroute it also prompts me for a value for 9:
I don't know what the input shall be.
Then it again stops at enter value for version:
    I used 3.2.1.0
The window scrols a while and closes.
later I changed the password and ran the command.
    @c:\temp\apex\apxldimg.sql c:\temp
    but no success with installation.
    the output is as following.

    hello everybody
    i'm a student

i'm using oracle 10g express edition
to run my application i need to create another database instance
but i didn't find any option for doing so in that product
if there is pls tell me where it is?
if not pls tell me how to manually create it?
    regards,
    Chaitanya

yaa i'm sure about that .
i want one more instance of database. Can you perhaps explain why? I have a fair share of production and development servers - and not a single one of them needs to run more than one database instance.
So I'm interested in what requirement you are trying to satisfy by using two database instances on a single platform.
Oh yeah - if you want to create a custom XE instance (different SID, different tablespace sizes, more/less PL/SQL stuff installed, hack standard), make a copy of your XE db creation script (in your XE's +$ORACLE_HOME/bin+ and called createdb.sh ) and modify that for your needs.
PS. even with a different SID, only a single XE instance can be run at a time - you can however have 2 different ones defined and then use one at a time (e.g. testing international settings, init param differences, etc.)

  • 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 x64 with Active Directory

I have successfully installed the 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Ent. r2 x64 with Microsoft Active Directory Domain Controller but i could not be able to run http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
Although i have run the http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex on my another Windows 2008 R2 x64 ant WITHOUT Active Directory Domain Controller Role.
i think its related with AD Domain server role of my server, because i run that on same config and operation without Active Directory Domain Controller role.
Can anyone help about this issue?
    thanks in advance

I have experienced the same problem - running 10g Express on a Win 2008 (32-bit). When not being a Domain controller, the install was fine. When installing after the server had been given the Domain Controller role (+the required DNS), it failed. NO FIREWALLS are involved on the server. Seems like Oracle Express has problems being installed in this kind of environment - independent of x32 or x64 bit OS.
