Import extremely slow from 9i to  10G

I am preparing a 10.2.0.4 database for testing, (upgrading from 9i) because we are also moving to a new server, I am going to use the exp/imp method. I created a new database after installing and patching the software, then created the necessary tablespaces and users before using imp on the last export taken from the 9i database. Also turned off archive logging for the sake of importing an testing.
This is usually not the fastest process, the dump file is 13gb from the 9i DB, but when I refresh 9i test or dev databases quite often using the same method and do not experience the slowness I am seeing right now in 10G. It has been running for almost 8 hours on one table, which has just over 4 million rows in it, no blob, lob etc.. columns, and nothing of note in the alert log.
9i database is on Windows 2000 advanced server, 10G is on windows 2003 server with plenty of horsepower and RAM, but the cpu is never over 1-3% used
Any ideas here?

Hi,
Try this:
1- Analyze only after import (Analyze=n)
2 -Have de dump to import on a different disk than the DB files.
3- Use commit=n
4- Use only a big rollback segment and put the others offline during the import
5- USe indexes=n and create them after import had finish
6- Use a big buffer during import, example:
(import option - time sec - Improvement %)
commit=y - 120 - 0
commit=y,buffer=64000 - 100 - 17%
commit=n,buffer=30720 - 72 - 40%
commit=n,buffer=64000 - 67 - 44%
7- Pre-create tables before with scripts and use ignore=y
8- use bigger db_cache_size and log_buffer parameters
9- stop archive generation, (ALTER DATABASE NOARCHIVELOG;)
After import is finish, don't forget create all indexes and generate new statistics.

Francisco Munoz Alvarez.

  • Find extremely slow from Finder menu

In OS 10.3.9, when I try to search for files on our Windows 2000 network, Finder/Find is extremely slow. When searching for a particular file, it can take 10 minutes to return any results. I downloaded "Path Finder" as a test, and it returns all the results within 30 seconds.
Is there something that needs to be done to make Find faster?

It might be worth mentioning over here as well.

  • Fuji x-trans raw files import extremely slow

WIn 7 pro 3.6 AMD quad core 16 gb ram 1.2 tb raid 0 WD Velociraptor drives. Lightroom 5.6
I have a fairly quick system and my 24mp Sony raw files import and render full sized previews reasonably quickly -but it takes about 5x longer for my Fuji X-T1 raw files to import and render full size previews.  If I import into Capture One Pro 7 or 8 or into Photo Ninja both the Sony and the Fuji files import and render previews quickly. It is only Lightroom that is so incredibly slow with the Fuji raw files.
I have used LR since version one and my files have always imported reasonably fast , however, the Fuji raw files have been slow to import from the very first import.  Ex - yesterday I imported 312 raf files (Fuji raw files) and it took 31 minutes to complete. I also imported 257 Sony raw files and the import  plus full sized preview rendering was completed in just under 5 minutes.
Am I missing something in the preferences or import workflow?
    Thanks for any help
    BOb

Thanks for the quick reply! :-)
The setup is identical as when I work with my Nikon-files; I always start by "manually" copy the files from the memorycard to correct location/disk.
In LR I use the "Add" option when I import to my catalog, so the file transfer is not part of the equation....
Even the large files from Nikon D810 is faster to "add" than the files from the X-T1.
But, as you write, it might come down to X-Trans-files (RAF) is not as optimal for Adobe processing as the Nikon raw files (NEF)...

  • R12.1.2/11.1.0.7 PO Import extremely Slow

    Hi All
We are struggling with performance on a 100,000 PO import using POXPOPDOI (Standard Purchase Order Import program) on R12.1.2 and 11.1.0.7 (HP-UX 16GB 2 x Intel(R) Itanium 2 9100 series processors (1.67 GHz, 18 MB) B.11.31.
I know it’s a lot of PO’s to import and the PO Import process has always been slow, but 3 days to import 100,000 records is a bit over the top, to say the least. POXPOPDOI is a single threaded process. The PO’s are all open PO’s and have to be loaded prior to go-live. I know not why.
Anyone else having similar issues ? We have tried running with smaller batches, it's slightly faster but not fast enough.
    Thanks

  • Updated to LR 5.4, images now importing extremely slow. After importing and rendering images are still very slow to go through and develop. No issues in LR 5.3 which was very fast.

After importing and rendering images are still very slow to go through and develop. No issues in LR 5.3 which was very fast. Canon,Nikon, Leica and Fuji files all rendering slow. iMac 2.9 ghz 16gb RAM OSX 10.8.5. Catalogs and images are kept on external drives. Drives running fine. Really need a fix on this since I'm norally imported and processing at least 4,000 images per LR Catalog. Is there way to revert back to 5.3? I can't use 5.4 is its current state. Thanks.

Download LR 5.3 and install it
By the way, lots of people have this complaint about LR 5.4, and the advice I give is to use LR 5.3 unless you need one of the new camera models supported by LR 5.4

  • Aperture Import Extremely Slow

    Hi all,
I recently inherited an iPad from my dad, and before I could erase and sync it with my computer I had to get all the photos off. There are about 10 GB worth of photos on the iPad, so I understand why that would go slow. But I checked, and an event which had seven pictures in it took close to 30 minutes. Any ideas?
    -Torin

I would have plugged-in first (with its authorized computer), then went to the photo tab and unchecked the sync button..ie, sync no photos.

  • Importing extremely slow

I'm trying to import several audio books on my mom's computer. It has Windows 7 and I've upgraded to the latest version of itunes. It is taking a full minute per TRACK, so about 15 minutes total per CD. At this rate it will take me all night! Error correction is unchecked. It's currently set to AAC Encoder, if that helps.

Download LR 5.3 and install it

  • IWeb sites load extremely slow from various computers

I am sure this must be the case for everyone, but if I click on an iWeb link vs. a homepage link the difference in loading times in amazing. My old homepages load in seconds, iWeb in minutes.
This is the case if I go to the iWeb page on my mac, my pC at home, a PC at work, whatever.
    Have others noticed this?

    Hi NH Sullivan,
I too have also noticed less than satisfactory loading times, even for simple iWeb sites. (Again, regardless of platform, browser etc.) It seems to take a particularly long time to load the navigation sections and photo galleries.
I have not looked into a solution to this, but I have looked at the source code for iWeb generated sites and to me (Although I'm not an expert) there is a lot of unnecessary code.

  • Imp from 11g to 10g db

    Hi all,
I am importing an expdat.dmp which is an output of 11g to lower 10g db.
So I am using a 11g client to import it to 10g. But I can not understand why some tables got imported while others were not :(
The error said that the table already exist, when in fact is it not yet there.
Have you encountered this kind of issue?
Or how do I import a dump from 11g to 10g?
    Thanks a lot,
    Yxz

  • Upgrade from Lightroom 5.7 to 6.0 Lightroom becomes extremely slow...

After Upgrade from Lightroom 5.7 to 6.0 Lightroom becomes extremely slow. Especially after using face recognition feature. Switching off GPU acceleration doesn't help. Some note: Hardware specs couldn't be the problem, since 5.7 was reasonably fast (Core i7, Nvidea Quadro 600). Any ideas?

Are you applying a Develop preset in the Import settings? If so try setting it to None:
If the import is still slow try turning of GPU support in LR Preferences:

  • Read from 16 GB Micro SD is Extremely Slow

I have had a new Blackberry Tour 9630 equipped with v4.7.1.40 software and a 16 GB micro SD card.  Reading files from the card is extremely slow.  I first noticed this with video playback (extremely jerky and freezes) and actually replaced my first 9630 a few days after purchasing it.
I eventually gave up on video playback but now have very recently been using Media Manager to upload files (.jpgs) from the 16 GB micro SD card Media Card to my laptop.  The bottom line is it is taking 10-15 minutes to upload 13 .jpg's (total 6.7 MB) and is a major pain in the butt.
Some of the trouble shooting steps I have taken:
    - moved same 13 files to main memory on Blackberry then uploaded to pc in 10 seconds
    - moved micro SD card to my son's Samsung phone - uploaded the 13 .jpg's from it to laptop in 10 seconds (so the memory card is good)
    - installed Desktop Manager and Media Manager on my desktop pc and connected blackberry to it - same poor upload behaviour from files on micro CD equipped on the 9630
    - checked on blackberry Doc ID: KB05461 at http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB05461&sliceId=1&docTy... and it states:
BlackBerry Device Software version Media card size limit
BlackBerry Device Software version 4.5.0.81 Up to 16 GB
BlackBerry Device Software version 4.6.0 and later Up to 32 GB
so I should be equipped with the proper software vintage.
I am not sure what to do next and would appreciate any and all assistance/idea's etc.
    Thx,
    Gerry

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit. First download the pics to your computer.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Extremely slow file transfer from wifi server to MacBook Pro

I am experiencing extremely slow file download speeds from my wifi server to my MacBook Pro. I have just carried out a test - transferring a 16.5Mb folder took 8 mins, 24 secs. Transferring the same folder to my iMac G5 takes less than 3 seconds. Also, copying the same folder from my MacBook Pro to my wifi server only takes 22 seconds. Any suggestions PLEASE!!!!!

Try getting it on the Mac using something other than iPhoto.
In Windows, it would simply be a matter of opening Explorer and copying the file(s).  I'm fairly certain that Mac has a similar feature, but I'm not familiar with Macs.
Not really an iPhone issue... more of an issue with the application being used to import the file.

  • IMac CPU3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB, Extremely slow and repeatedly "out of Memory" since migration from Mountain Lion to Mavericks

    Dear Apple Support Community.
As mentioned by a number of users reporting the same problem, my 2009 iMac CPU3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, has become extremely slow and repeatedly "out of Memory" since it was migrated from Mountain Lion to Mavericks (OS 10.9 then OS 10.9.1).
I have already run CleanMyMac, deleted 5GB of useless stuffs, which did not translate into any improvement. Following the advices collected in other Apple Support Community threads, I have applied EtreCheck the outcome of which is provided below.
For information, I have also upgraded my 2011 MacBook CPU2.3 GHz Core i7, 8GB which became only a bit slower than before, sometimes freezing which it almost never did before. However, I am used to the fact that Mac get usually slower and more prompt fo freeze after upgrading to a more recent OS.
Both my 2009 iMac and my 2011 MacBook have F-Secure installed. So the problem with the 2009 IMac is unlikly to be due to the presence of F-Secure. Interestingly, the few abnormalities found by Etrecheck were exacly identical before I ran CleanMyMac. There are two more findings (mentioned below) since I ran CleanMyMac on the 2009 iMac, which again didn't improve the problem.

From the above, unless anyone in the Apple Support Community proves to be able to identify a specific problem leading to a way to find a cure, I tend to conclude that Mavericks is not suitable for computers operating with a Core 2 Duo CPU even with a 8GB of RAM.
Unless I missed something, I did not see any warning from Apple Computer Inc. informing their customers they should refrain from upgrading Core 2 Duo Computers.
The only solution I see so far is to downgrade from Mavericks to Mountain Lion. And the Apple Support Community would confirm that it is the only solution, I would appreciate to get your guidance on how to proceed.
    Intended action plan
Migrate the above 2009 iMac to a 2014 Mac Mini Server operating on Mavericks to ensure that no data may be lost while downgrading to Montain Lion.
Provided the above downgrading operation is successful, assign this 2009 iMac to partial retirement e.g. Mail, Skype, iTunes  and DVD player.
In advance, I would like to thank the Apple Community for helping me either i) finding a cure to the problem, ii) or confirming that Mavericks cannot operate properly on Core 2 Duo computers, iii) and in such a case, guiding me on how to downgrade to Mountain Lion.
    Yours sincerely
    Core

... what anti-virus would you recommend using?
Use what is already included with OS X. It already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.
