Import fails from camera and card reader

I am unable to get Aperture 2.1.2 to import from either my camera or a CF card reader. I have a Canon 400d (Rebel XTi), shoot RAW only, and have used it for a while in Aperture without any problems, but suddenly it refuses to import.
Aperture 'sees' the camera, opens the import pane automatically, but once the import process starts, nothing happens. The little spinning import indicator just spins...no images download. This behavior is the same for either the camera or card reader. And it happens with different cards.
The only way I can import images is to drag them from the card in the Finder, and then drag them from the Finder into Aperture.

I had this problem after the raw update 2.2 with images from my 1d-mkii. After the 2.3 update things went back to normal. There's something not entirely right with the current raw version from apple. My hunch is it's all going to be ok after the 10.5.6 update, which shouldn't be long.

  • Iphoto 11 is not recognizing jpeg files downloaded from camera and card reader. Nor will it allow me to transfer from image capture

iphoto 11 is not recognizing jpeg files from either the camera and card reader. Canon Eos rebel dig. Nor will it allow me to transfer images from image capture to iphoto. No problem downloading to image capture.

Sounds like a damaged card.  Get your photos off the card with Image Capture and then reformat the card in the camera.  Take some pictures and see if the card is recognized by iPhoto and the card reader.

  • How do I stop organizer to automatic import everything from camera and card readers?

I want myself to decide what and when something shall be added to organizer.

    Hi,
You don't say which version of elements you are using or which operating system you are running so I'll give some general answers.
Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Camera or Card Reader and change the Download Option to Advanced.
Now when you get images from the card, it will display a preview of each image and you select/de-select each one before telling it to download the selected ones.
If you can't turn on the advanced dialog, your screen depth in pixels may be too small.
If you don't want the downloader to be started when you insert the card then the operating system needs a tweak.
The other thing to look at is watched folders, you may want to turn the facility off.

  • Direct from camera or Card Reader?

Aloha all, a few questions because I'm stumped, and have searched the Canon site with no luck, so I thought I'd ask people who have real world knowledge. Here's the problem. Suddenly every program that I attempt to up-load my shots with, can not see the pictures on the camera (20d). They do recognize the camera, and it mounts fine, but it shows up with 0 photos for import. Each one says no photos to up-load, however when I view them on the camera they are there, and when I use a card reader they show up, and up-load/import fine. Any idea why they suddenly can't be seen when the camera is connected directly? More importantly for me, is there a fix you know of that doesn't involve sending the camera in for repairs?
The Applications I use, and won't show/import the shots directly from the 20d are 1. Aperture, 2. Photoshop CS, 3. iPhoto, 4. Digital Photo Professional
Part two, please bare with me.
Does/has anyone used the Sandisk Extreme USB 2.0 Reader? I'm looking for a new card reader and like this one. I don't really need/want a reader that reads 12 - 15 different cards, just a CF and maybe a memory stick. Is the USB 2 ok speed wise? (I shoot mainly RAW). Or would you recommend going FW?
Mahalo in advance for any suggestions, tips, or advice. JB

Importing directly from the camera is often problematic. It mounts using a TWAIN driver, and this always seems flaky.
Importing via a card reader mounts the device like a drive, and I have never had problems with this approach. It's almost always faster as well. The only downside is you can't do "tethered" shooting (basically live off the camera).
Anyway, is the Sandisk Extreme 2.0 reader the $90 jobbie? I believe I recall reading a review on Luminous Landscape that noted its speed is only realized if you use their Extreme 4 series of cards -- otherwise it's not all that much faster than a normal reader. I would expect most USB 2.0 or Firewire 400 readers would be fine -- personally I use a Lexus Firewire 400 reader and it has been excellent. The "right" Sandisk combo is faster, but it depends on whether you need that speed for import. It's nice, but often not a "have to have."

  • Elements Organizer Help | Import photos from your camera or card reader

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/getting-started/import-camera-or-card-reader.htm l

Did you try the "create subfolder" option in the Adobe Photo Downloader? If you choose the option to create subfolders using "shot date[mm yy]" I think it would solve the problem you are discribing. And in the case when nothing works, you can always choose the advanced button and manually select the photos you want to import

Please! I need an answer fast!!!!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Don't know how long it would take to import that many photos but if you stopped import and ejected the card ther is something else wrong here.
I would Force Quit iPhoto. Then Restart your mac. Then restart iphoto to see if any or all of your photos were imported. If they ae you're good to go. If they were not imported I would try importing fewer photos at a time and see what happens.

  • Incorrect subfolder dates when importing photos from camera

I installed the trial version of Photoshop Elements 10 on my iMac a few days ago to try it out. When I import photos from a camera (I have tried with 2 different cameras) in Photoshop Elements Organizer, I am asked to select a naming format for the subfolders. I select "Shot Date (yyyy mm dd)", but no matter what, I always get folders with strange dates eg. 1913 11 05, 1970 06 10. The photos themselves within the subfolders have the right dates, so I am not sure where the problem is.
    Can someone help?
    Thanks

Make sure your prefs are set to date shot - there are a number of choices.
Open the Organizer and click Edit à Preferences à Camera or Card Reader
Choose your setting from the dropdown menu and click OK.

  • LR displays "no preview available" upon import direct from camera after last update. How do I fix this?

I have the latest LR update with Nikon D700 and import directly from camera. I purchased a new CF card in case the old one was the problem but I get the same thing with the new card. Is there a bug in the last update or is this a problem with my equipment?

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • I am importing photos from an SD card but it keeps adding them in triplicate...any idea why?

I am importing photos from an SD card but the photos are added in triplicate and will not organize in order....any ideas as to why?

Because there are three copies of each photo on the card and you have the sort order set incorrectly?
That is the overwhelmingly most likely cause - beyond that you actually need to share some information with us since we only know what you tell us and at this point all you have told us is that you have a problem and you are running OS X 10.9.4
what version of iPhoto do you have? what is the source of the photos? have you looked at the SD card in the finder or with image capture to see exactly why is on it? are you shooting HRD with the source camera? what setting do you have for event sort under the view menu? has it ever worked? what has changed? what else can you tell us? why do you think this is happening?

  • I loaded my ipad photos from camera and all the pictures sorted by date.  Next, I did a sync with my computer and the photos were all reorganized into IMPRT folders an out of date sequence.  Any idea how to put the photos back into date files?

I loaded my ipad photos from camera and all the pictures sorted by date.  I later sync my ipad with my computer and the photos were all reorganized into IMPRT folders an out of date sequence.  Any idea how to put the photos back into date files other than reloading all of them from camera?

    What version of iPhoto?
Select one and rotate it. Then rotate it back. Does that make it appear?
A much better work flow is the keep the photos after importing.  Check the success the import, wait for at least one successful backup cycle then use you camera's format command to reformat the card

  • Using Bridge to Import Images from Camera to Harddrive. Question inside...

I have Bridge automatically download images when my camera is connected.
I was wondering if it was possible to have Bridge ONLY download RAW (nef) and JPEG files. because i also shoot video with one of my cameras, but it downloads my AVI files as well.
    thanks for your help

Don't know about AVI but if you select the advanced dialog in Photodownloader you can put checkmarks on the files you want to be downloaded or not. You can also set the option create subfolders to a set of names or dates.
Beside that, it is common knowledge that the use of a separate card reader for downloading images to the computer is preferred above the connection from camera to computer :-)

  • I'm trying to import photos from my SD card into iPhoto, which I have done many times before, but now I'm not seeing the "Import All" button to start the import.

I have an iMac, with an SD card slot, equipped with iPhoto '11(v9.2.3), and until recently have imported photos from my SD card without problem. But now, after turning on iPhoto, and inserting my SD card, nothing happens, except that a "canon_dc" icon appears on my desktop.  The "Import All" button no longer displays above my previously imported photos and I am, therefore, unable to complete the photo import.  Has something changed?

By design, the organizer (and any other database management systems) is there to prevent you from duplicating your media files. The catalog management allows you to have the same image in different categories or albums. Duplication in different folders is to be absolutely avoided.
The same image file can have multiple tags like 'family', 'vacations', 'birthdays' and be present in three different albums with the same names. On obvious advantage is less disk space. Another one with your present folder system is that if you edit one of your duplicates, the other ones are unchanged.
I don't see an easy way to make your present folder structure simplified for the organizer ...
