I need to import my favorites from MSN to firefox, how do I do this?

From these complicated instructions it seems that it might be simpler to build a computer from scratch. Is there not a simple way to import MSN favorites to my Firefox browser keeping in mind that not everyone with a personal computer can be considered an "internet geek or guru"???

  • I have followed instructions for importing favorites from Internet Explorer, but they do not show up in Bookmarks menu as shown in the support instructions.

I just downloaded Firefox 3.6 and followed the instructions for importing Favorites from Internet Explorer. Firefox said the import was successful, but the Favorites do not appear at the bottom of the Bookmarks menu (below "Mozilla Firefox") as shown in the Support instructions. Where can I access my Favorites?

You can usually find the imported IE Favorites in a folder ("From Internet Explorer") at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks).<br />
If you can't find them in the "From Internet Explorer" folder then try this:
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File

Can easily import favorites from IE, but no such luck with moving my AOL favorites to FireFox. Anyone know how? Thanks.

You can use the following link to export the AOL favorites to an HTML file, you can then import that HTML file into Firefox.

  • If I import favorites from IE, does that totally remove them from IE?

If I import favorites from IE, does that totally remove them from IE?

I'm quite sure that importing favorites will not delete the originals because it is only "copying" them.
    Hope that helps.

  • Want to import favorites from IE. Click file, and import is dimmed. Cant use it when dimmed. Other way to import them ?

Following instructions from Fierfox to import favorites from IE to bookmarks in firefox. Instructions say in Firefox, click on "file", then "import". But "import" is dimmed and unable to use. Is there another way to import?

    * Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode
    * In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and features like visited links are disabled and not showing
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
    * Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
Export the Favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export

When I go through the 'import favorites' from Internet Explorer, everything seems to progress correctly. However, when I click on Bokkmarks, there is no option in the menu for accessing the imported items form EI. Why would this option be missing and is there a fix for this?

    Hello Nigel.
Are you sure the Bookmarks you important are nowhere to be found? They should be stored in your bookmark manager, somewhere. To access the bookmark manager, go into ''Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks...''. Try searching there.
You can change their place from there too.

  • Have tried importing favorites from IE, but nothing heppens, even though I complete the process. What's going on?

I import favorites from IE, but nothing happens. I don't get an error message, but my IE favorites are not imported. I then saved my IE favorites to an htm file, and tried importing from the file. However, again nothing was imported.

Did you choose option for importing setting from IE during instalation?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Why cant i import favorites from 3.6 to 4.0 firefox

saved favorites to flash drive from 3.6 firefox , just downloaded 4.0 ,tried to restore favorites from flash drive to 4.0 it will not work?

Provided you saved your bookmarks in HTML format, there shouldn't be a problem. See [[Importing Bookmarks from an HTML File]]
Try moving the file to your hard drive first if necessary.
How did you update though? Via '''Help '''| '''Check For Updates''', or did you download the file from [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0]?
If you did the latter, did you uninstall the previous version via Add/Remove Programs first? That also gives you the option to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc. You also need to delete the Mozilla Firefox folder at this location before updating: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
