Import files: LR v CS2 Bridge

Many of my older files will not open in LR when importing but they do in Bridge CS2. How do I over come this?

Can you tell us something about these "older" files? Are they RAW or do they predate RAW? Are then jpg, tiff, etc.?

  • Bridge not importing files into After Effects

From AE I go to File > Browse in Bridge...
Bridge opens up and I find the file I want.  If I double click the file, an AI for instance, it opens the file within Illustrator.  I could find, double click it, and it opens in Photoshop.
I feel as though I'm missing how to import files into After Effects by using bridge.
    I'm running CC 2014 on a Win 7 machine.

Probably an issue with whatever created the files in the first place. WMV doesn't have Alpha, but can have multiple streams... anyway, AE is crap at dealing with such stuff, so convert it using an external tool like Handbrake or whatever...

  • Importing RAW files with keywords from Bridge

    Hi everyone,
I downloaded the trial version of Aperture and have now imported RAW files (Canon 20D) with keywords and IPTC data applied via Bridge.
The import of the RAW files was no problem however the files lacked the keywords and IPTC data, which I applied in Bridge.
I also tried to import JEPG files and here Aperture could show me keywords and IPTC data.
Why does this not work for RAW files? What do I have to do in order to get it to work?
Thanks in advance for your advise
    /David

When you add metadata (keywords etc.) to most proprietary raw formats (including Canon .CR2 files), Bridge doesn’t know how to embed that data in to the file—Canon and other manufacturers haven’t told Adobe (or anyone else) what the structure of these raw files is and how metadata can be stored within the file itself. Therefore, Bridge creates a ‘sidecar’ file to go with the raw file: the sidecar file sits alongside the raw file, with the same filename and a .xmp extension. This sidecar file contains any metadata you may have applied, as well as adjustments you have made in Adobe Camera Raw.
Unfortunately, Aperture doesn’t read these sidecar files when importing raw files, so you lose any adjustments from ACR (not surprising, since Aperture is obviously a different raw converter to ACR so the adjustments would be different anwyay), but also you lose any metadata you may carefully have applied.
There may be an answer, however. But it’ll cost. That would be to use iView Media Pro (which has recently been bought by Microsoft, but a Mac version still exists). There is a 21-day free trial for iVMP—since my suggestion is to use it as a temporary conduit for importing all your existing raw files into Aperture, you won’t necessarily have to pay the £129 GBP asking price for iVMP (others can debate the morality of that statement, however; fortunately I already owned iVMP and so didn’t have to worry about such things). I believe iVMP can read the XMP sidecar files created by Bridge. Create a new iVMP catalogue with all your raw files which you want to move into Aperture. It should bring all your existing metadata into the iVMP catalogue as well.
Then, import all the raw files into Aperture. As you have found, they’ll be without any metadata. As long as the filenames are the same in both the iVMP catalogue and the Aperture library, you can use Adam Tow’s application Annoture to transfer metadata from the iVMP catalogue into the Aperture library.
Sort of circuitous, but possible. If only Aperture read the metadata from those sidecar files, eh? If I’m wrong in thinking that iVMP imports the XMP metadata, then what you can do is get Bridge to convert all your .CR2 raw files into .DNG files. If you don’t know about DNG, read about it at Adobe. But briefly, Bridge is able to embed its metadata into the DNG files and iVMP is able to read that embedded metadata when importing DNG files into the catalogue. I know that for certain: I used iVMP and DNG files (from my own 20D) before using Aperture; when I started using Aperture (which I love, now) I used Annoture to transfer all my metadata from iVMP into Aperture.
Perhaps someone else will explain this better than I.

  • Importing .mov files to InDesign CS2

I am trying to import a H.268 or Mpeg .mov files into InDesign CS2 and every time I select the file, I get the following message pop up:
"Error: Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation"
When I check the 'Interactive Options' the options such as 'Movie Option' or 'Sound Option' are graded out, so that I cannot select them.
When I google the Error message, people posted articles saying that you had to set the PDF options, but I cannot find this. I have look at the general preferences section, but there is nothing for movies.  I also looked at the 'Configure Plugins' section, and 'Media.Framework' plugin is locked, but I am not sure what to do.
Please help as I need to get this finished in the next 24 hours and cannot make this work!

Please see above for what I have selected from the media panel.
In terms of the 'PDF Interactive export dialog' I am not sure what you mean, could you please talk me through this?
This is the instructions that I have been following http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/dynamic-pdf-documents.html#create_interactive_docume nts_for_pdf
    However, where it says
    "Buttons And Media
Select Include All to allow movies, sounds, and buttons to be interactive in the exported PDF file. Select Appearance Only to include the normal state of buttons and the video posters as static elements."
I cannot seem to find this menu, the only one I can find is Buttons & Forms and when I open this all of the options are graded out.  Please see the screen grab below...

  • Importing files from Bridge into a stack in Photoshop

    Hi guys,
Photoshop has a great function of loading files into a single stack, so as not to have many 10's of files to open. Bridge on the other hand allows for better viewing and navigation through folders etc. Just wondering if it was possible to select all the files you wanted open to a stack from bridge but these then to open in photoshop in a single psd file. It is possible to open all the files from Bridge then run the load in stack from the open files but then you have to close each file manually.
Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Sorry for any confusion. If you imagine using Bridge simply to select the images you want and highlighting them, nothing more, more nothing less. (because of better thumnail previews). These are now the images I want to perform the Photoshop "load files into Stack" script on. The only way this is possible is to the above mentioned, open hte files run the script and then close the files manually but as I have other files open can be very annoying going through them all. The other way is to write down the files names on a piece of paper and then find these files again through Photoshop/open, but as you can understand this is far too time consuming if you have 15-20 files to open at a time. This is basically because although you can choose the files in Bridge you cannot copy that selection to Photoshop. If this were possible it would also sort out the issue as I would have the correct files selected to run the script directky in Photoshop.
Hope this is a bit clearer.

  • Can't See Camera Connected via USB in CS2 Bridge

I've connected a Canon PowerShot (as previously) via a USB port. When I open "My PC' in WinXP, I see the Canon along with my other drives and can view the jpeg image files. When I navigate to "My PC" in CS2 Bridge, I can see all drives except the Canon. No idea why this should be so. Help!

    Hi again, John.
I'm feeling particularly dumb these days around PS. Hope you don't mind answering these Help Center questions (or directing me to a good resource).
OK, so I clicked on PS Help. This resulted in an Adobe Help tab appearing in the bottom bar next to the Adobe PS tab. The screen launched by the Help tab looks exactly like the standard PS screen except all options at the top are greyed out. If I click on Flie/Edit?etc, I'm returned to the standard screen (non-greyed out).
According to the official PS manual, I should see a Help Center window. I don't.
I'm stumped. I've used PCs for years and never had a problem with Help features. PS is the first.

  • Why do my imported files or created titles always go to some random bin and not the one I want?

Everytime I import a file via right clicking > Import. It will always go to some random bin that I don't want it to. Each project it's a different bin. Even if I right click > import on the bin I want it to import into, the file will still go to some pre determined default folder. Usually one of my Footage folders a couple of layers down.
This same thing happens when created titles. I usually have to do a search to find the files. When I used CS2 and 3 I never had this problem.
Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way to not have it go to a pre determined default bin? Or can I change that Bin?
Currently the only way I can get a file to go into the folder I want via importing is when I drag and drop it from my explorer window. I don't use the CS5 media browser because It doesn't have thumbnails.
    Thoughts, solutions?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Switch

    Close.
With this specific bin structure, if I import as you described the file imports to the Reception Bin. I tried the same proceedure with highlighting>righ clicking> and importing,  files to all bin levels even to the root level not inside a bin and it still goes to the reception bin. So for what ever reason for this project I am working on now the Reception Bin has become the default bin.
This holds true for titles as well, they get created in the reception bin.
I thought it might have something to do with the fact that I presort my footage into folders then "import folder" into the footage bin. I thought it might have something to do with the last bin I created or imported became a default bin but in this scenario. The Receception bin is the second to last folder I imported/created.

  • Indesign / Xpress unexpetedly quits on importing files intel mac

You probably wonder, Why does he post this here?
    I will explain the problem..
We have a customer who owns an intel imac on with he uses Indesign CS2 and Xpress 6.52. He has files on an apple server version 10.3.9.
When he creates a new document en starts to import files the applications unexpectedly quit when browsing a folder with contains xpress 4/5 files.
You can see the files have scrambled icons. Suddenly grey block come up on the screen and the application quits.
This problem is ONLY when connecting to the server using AFP. Via SMB no problems.
When the browsed folder is on de local desktop, no problem.
If we use indesign and switch the file browsing to the Adobe dialog there are no problems either but then the xpress files are not shown.
We have tried an fresh system on the imac. We have tried this on an other intel imac same problems.
We have tried it on our own 10.4.8 server same problem.
have cleared al caches, reset default app's database, same problem.
Does someone seen this problem before?
    Thanks in advance.

Your first major stumbling block is that neither Adobe (unless you use their InCopy or VersionCue) nor Quark (unless you use their QPS) support working directly off of a fileshare, period. Really, they don't.
Keep in mind they don't state it in big bold letters on their front page(s), you have to look for it, but if you call them for support, after running around for a while they'll tell you it's not supported.
Doesn't matter that *sometimes, in some cases* it works. Or that it used to work in some past combo of client/server OSen.
Never mind that you're using Rosetta which adds a real and extra layer of potential complications.

  • Export/Import file ratings between computers

I've tried to find a way to export and import file ratings between my laptop and my desktop. I have the photos stored on both machines. I take my laptop to the client and rate the photos. How do I copy just the ratings without having to copy the entire directory?
I have Bridge CS4 on a Windows XP machine.
I've tried copying the xmp files. I've tried exporting the cache. But neither of these give me rathings on my desktop.
Anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks

It depends on your type of files. For DNG, PSD, JPEG, TIFF and others, the rating is stored in the image file itself (like other EXIF, IPTC or XMP metadata).
For most RAW formats, it may be stored in the XMP sidecar files. Have a look at your images with a tool like ExifToolGUI and look for the XMP field called "Rating". It's either in the image file or in the sidecar file. If it's in the image file, I'm afraid you'll have to either copy the images or find a way to export the ratings to a seperate (text-)file and re-apply from there, but I don't know how to do that.

  • Trying to import files with transparent backgrounds into Premier Elements 10

I am struggling to import files from Photoshop CS3 into Premier Elements 10 and preserve their transparent background. I have tried .png (8 and 24 bit), .gif and .psd files. I have tried rasterizing the type layer before "Saving for web and devices" but can't get anything to work. The imported files end up as either text on a white background (.gif) or the file imports as a black background with no type visible (.png and .psd). I have read a few forums but can't find any suggestions beyond what I have already tried. I also get the same problem if I "Save for web and devices" out of Illustrator.
    Any suggestions much appreciated.
    Mick

    kaare
You have brought up one very interesting maintaining transparency question which I feel goes more to the trigger on the
Premiere Elements Videomerge pop up than to the Photoshop CS2 Save As with or without a check mark for Maximum Compatibility
And, I find that Photoshop CS5.1 as well as CS2 involvement in this matter is the same.
I created three 720 x 480 pixels documents, each with a blue colored circle on a transparent background in
    Photoshop CS2 and saved each
psd with check mark next to Maximize Compatibility
psd with no check mark next to Maximize Compatibility
    png
Each of them was imported into a NTSC DV Standard Premiere Elements 11 Windows 7 64 bit project.
Each triggered the Premiere Elements 11 Videomerge pop up.
If I checked No for the program request to apply Videomerge, then all 3 results were the same, that is,
the area around the circle was transparent and the circle was not...just the way it was created in Photoshop CS2.
So, why was the Videomerge message telling me "Clip being dropped contains solid background color" when
it had transparency represented by black and did not have a solid background color?
Even more interesting was what happened if I selected Yes to the program's request to
apply Videomerge to create transparency for what it claimed to be seeing as "solid background color".
The result was the same for all three cases, that is, the inside content of the circle became transparent
and the "black background" became a "solid color".
Videomerge is not one of my preferred Premiere Elements options.
To avoid the Videomerge pop up, I would suggest placing a check mark next to the "Do not show again.",
followed by No in the Videomerge pop up. When you do, you should not be confused by the activities of the
Videomerge pop up activities and you should have no problems with the maintenance of the Photoshop
created transparency in the Premiere Elements project.

  • After Effects won't import any animation presets from Bridge.

I just installed Creative Cloud.  It seems to be working fine, except that when I try to apply Animation Presets into After Effects through Bridge, it gives me an error message saying "Can't import file xxx.fxx: unsupported filtype or extension"
I'm not trying to import a "file" or anything.... simply trying to apply an animation preset to a video clip on an AE timeline.  Never had any issues doing this with CS5.  Anyone know what's going on?
    Thanks

  • CS3 not reading xmp files generated in CS2.

CS3 is not reading xmp files generated in CS2.
If I open a raw file that was adjusted in ACR in PSCS2 with PSCS3 it does not recognize the adjustments that were made to the file.
PSCS3 opens the file in ACR with the default settings and I lose all of the adjustments and crops.
Is anyone else having this problem. If so: is their a fix or a stting I should use?

First. make sure you have updated to Bridge 2.1.0.100.
2nd, Purge the Cache from the TOOLS menu in Bridge.
3rd, Delete and rebuild your Bridge preferences by holding down the Option key (Command+Option, or Command+Option+Shift work as well) immediately after launching the application.
4th, if that doesn't work, make a fresh, new Mac account and log in as a different user.
    Then report back.

  • CS2 + Bridge CS2 1.0.4.6 (104504) white thumbnails

Bridge CS2 displays only white thumbnails in all folders. Initial Desktop images show fine, but when changing to folders, all thumbnails are white boxes. Including when I go back to the Desktop - all thumbnails are white. Close Bridge and reopen and the Desktop thumbnails are fine again. Go to Folders, they're all white.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled, purged cache, tried everything I can find to get the thumbnails to display correctly - as they originally did. Sometime during an update things went bad.
Anyone have a solution please. isearched the forum and came up with nothing. I just can't stand going to the file open dialog box to open files instead of using Bridge as I have always done.
    Thanks.

  • No CS2 Bridge?

A colleague of mine, in a distant city, is having Bridge troubles.
She has currently installed CS2 Suite Premium but Bridge doesn't seem to want to open.
Bridge doesn't appear as a separate application in the Selectable list during install; is a full re-install needed to get Bridge re-installed?
Also - what should the version # be for a CS2 Bridge? On Macs in my office, it's a 1.0.4.6 version number for the latest version.
CS3 installs a 2.x version; does a CS2 Bridge re-install need to start with a CS installer CD?

I've been searching for an answer to this too and was hoping to find it here. So far no luck, but I'd really love to be able to see which files are open and which are not in bridge...
