Import Flash Movies

About 18 months ago I started webcasting on services like Ustream.tv. I recorded an online flash movie and downloaded them to edit.
in 2009 I did about 200 hours like that and never really learned a good way to get flash converted to go into FCP. Best was Quicktime 7 with Perian, to H264. Each was a struggle and would have mild to severe audio sync problems, even working in 15 fps, which was the flash movie frame rate.
Then I got the 8 core machine and had enough processor to make a desktop Quicktime 7 recording, which still wasn't all that compatible with FCP. Then I would use the on-line flash movie only as a failsafe backup.
This morning (a really good session) and my Quicktime7 failed. I am back in the flash movie soup.
Can anyone give some guidance on compressing an flv for FCP?
Wow, would this be great to solve. Someone in this world must edit flash movies?
Thanks
Richard Miller

I have also taken Youtubes (downloaded with ImToo) and I have used Quicktime-7 with Perian to convert them.
Can it be that flash files can have different parameters, that aren't always friendly to conversion. The .flv that I point to above Plays well (in sync) on Blip.tv, but when downloaded both QT-7 and Mpeg=Streamclip make a hash out of it. I uploaded it also on my website, if anyone has some time to help me figure this one out.
http://nevernothere.com/images/Unmani.flv
This should download easily and fast.
It is 14.93 frames per second.
And thanks

  • Problem Importing Flash Movie

    I exported a animation I made in flash CS3 to quicktime but for some reason when I import it to Motion, it only imports about half the clip and then it just cuts off. I also cannot change the duration of the clip in motion.

    OK, open it up in QT Player and do the get info and see what FPS it says the movie is at. I'm guessing it will say less than 30 FPS, but let us know.
    I had this bug where QT movies created in Compressor 3 brought back into Motion would do this same thing and the QT Player told me that those movies had FPS of 19 or 12, etc, and not the 29.97 they should have had.
    If you are able to export it out as Animation codec 100% quality from Flash, you should be able to now take it directly into FCP and then export it as a QT movie from FCP. Don't send it to Motion from FCP, export it out of FCP as a QT movie with Animation codec 100%. After that, check to see what the FPS is. Hopefully, FCP will export it out properly and you should be able to then import it into Motion.
    What I'm trying to do is get another application to take that QT movie and export it out to see if it can fix the movie.

  • Can I import Director movies into Flash?

    Hi,
    Can Flash handle Director movies? I am making a presentation
    of my artworks in Flash environment; I have both Flash and Director
    movies. I know that I can import all my swf movies into Director
    MX2004 to create a standalone projector and play both swf an ddir
    movies. Does it work for the reverse?
    Thanks
    Uti

    No, you can't import or display Director movies in Flash in
    any way. Best
    you can do is launch the Director executable from the Flash
    movie, though
    how you do this depends on which version of Flash you are
    using.

  • Flash movie dreamweaver 8 import.

    Hi. I made a flash logo for my website. I import the flash
    movie in dreamweaver 8 and resize it (actually 923 width and 119
    height). The problem is that there is a blank rectangle above and
    under the flash logo-obviously the blank flash stage. In flash i
    made the logo in the centre of the stage. How can i delete the
    blank spaces of the stage and keep my logo and import it to
    dreamweaver 8?

    The movie has to be design with scaling in mind to maintain
    ratios.
    Scale it in flash and export the 1:1 size so you don't need
    to do it in DW

  • Dynamically importing a .mov file into flash

    Hi,
    I need to import a .mov file into a flash file and create a
    .swf movie. I can do it through File > Import Movies option. But
    I want to make it dynamic and import the movie. I would like to use
    ActionScripts rather than the File> Import options. Pls let me
    know if this is possible. Let me know if you have any questions.
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanks & Regards,

    You can only dynamically load at runtime FLV movies.
    You can automate the authoring time environment but this is
    only with the Authoring tool. See

  • Importing Director movies into Flash

    My short Q, which I suspect is a FAQ though it doesn't appear
    on the Director or Flash FAQs on the Macromedia (sorry, Adobe ;-))
    site, is: how can you import Director movies (source .dir, or
    published .dcr) into a Flash movie?
    I had thought this would be simple, that Flash would have an
    import filter for Shockwave movies, as after all both products come
    from the same stable and you can import .swf movies into Director,
    but not so, at least in my copy of Flash 8. Neither can Director
    export as a .swf - the only export format that might just work is
    .avi but I'm damned if I want to create a big video file just to
    reuse a snippet from a Director movie. I did a quick Google search
    for DCR->SWF converters but couldn't see anything obvious to
    use.
    The reason I'm bothered about this is that we've produced a
    lot of e-learning material in Director (a good third of our
    learning objects at
    http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/nursing/sonet/rlos/rlolist.html
    use Shockwave movies) and although we've now moved on to Flash,
    occasionally we want to be able to reuse snippets from Director
    movies in Flash movies. It would be disappointing, to put it
    mildly, were we not able to move content between software
    applications produced by the same company...
    TIA for any answers/suggestions.
    Cheers

    I feel your pain an don't know what's going to happen with
    Director now that Adobe is involved.
    You mentioned that you could export as avi, could you copy
    the scenes in which you want to use into a new director file,
    export that as an avi and conver t that to an flv?
    Just a thought.

  • Can we import a SWF (catalyst) inside a flash movie.

    Example :
    loadMovie("MyCatalyst.swf", ...)
    I'm trying doing that but nothing comes up !
    Thank you

    Yes you can. The first thing is when you publish your project, make sure that you choose the "Build to view offline" option. This will roll all the Flex Framework into the resulting swf. This will be mean your resulting swf will be larger. Also note that your FLA must use ActionScript 3.
    Here is some sample code to load the swf into your Flash Professional project.
    import flash.display.*;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    var ldr:Loader = new Loader();
    var url:String = "Main.swf"; //The Catalyst made swf
    var urlReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
    ldr.load(urlReq);
    addChild(ldr);
    Hope this helps.

  • Flash movie doesn't load properly in IE only

    I have a simple flash movie which transitions through text and photos. I have a preloader (AS3) on frame 1, which sends the playhead to frame 2, after the movie has loaded 100%. For some reason, in Internet Explorer, the preloader bar will load all the way, but fail to move the playhead to frame 2, so it'll just sit there, with the preload bar at 100%. However, this does not happen every time. For instance, right now, the flash movie will play when I initially go to the website, but when I click on another page, the same flash header (same swf on each page) will just show the preloader bar but will not play the rest of the movie. Reloading the page doesn't help. Closing the browser and reopening it doesn't help. Clearing the browser cache doesn't help either. So, the flash movie will play correctly on the first page of the website I go to (whether it be the home page or another page) but then when I go to any other page which has the flash movie, it won't play, just sits there with the preloader bar showing. And then when going back to the initial page I entered the site on, the flash movie no longer plays there, either. I haven't seen this problem in any other browser than Internet Explorer (6 and 7). I've checked in Firefox on Mac and PC and Safari on Mac. I'm using flash player 10.0.22.87 on my Mac and PC. The flash movie was made in Flash CS3, for flash player 9, actionscript 3 code.
    So, to see the problem, go here in Internet Explorer: http://demo.matthewpavkov.com/adairsolar. Wait for the movie to load and start playing. It works. Then, navigate to one of the other pages and you'll see that the same swf will not play. Navigate back to the home page, the swf does not play.
    Here is the preloader code:
    import flash.display.*;
    this.stop();
    this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, PL_LOADING);
    function PL_LOADING(event:ProgressEvent):void {
        var pcent:Number=event.bytesLoaded/event.bytesTotal*100;
        lbar.scaleX=pcent/100;
        lpc.text=int(pcent)+"%";
        if (pcent>=100) {
            this.gotoAndStop(2);
    Also, if I remove the preloader actionscript code, the flash movie plays correctly. You can see that here: http://demo.matthewpavkov.com/adairsolar/no-preload
    The .fla is available to anyone who wants to take a closer look.

    mjjp,
         In may just be that in IE, the ProgressEvent never fires -- because your content is already cached.  See what happens if you add the following new lines (very end of the code sample):
    this.stop();
    this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(
      ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, PL_LOADING
    function PL_LOADING(event:ProgressEvent):void {
      var pcent:Number=event.bytesLoaded/event.bytesTotal*100;
      lbar.scaleX=pcent/100;
      lpc.text=int(pcent)+"%";
      if (pcent>=100) {
        this.gotoAndStop(2);
    if (this.loaderInfo.bytesLoaded >= this.loaderInfo.bytesTotal) {
      this.gotoAndStop(2);
         See what's going on?  This way, even of the ProgressEvent handler never fires, you're still comparing the bytesLoaded property against the bytesTotal property.

  • Embedding video in a flash movie

    I am trying to embed a video (.wmv or mpeg) into my flash movie and Whenever i click import video and select my video it says that it is not supported. I have looked online and it says that flash should support these file types. It allows me to choose a skin and everything for the player but it will not play when I put it in the timeline. Help please

    No they are not. The pages are withing a folder called
    "Pages", and the FLV files too. The main book file that calls the
    pages is on the root folder. I'm not at home now, so I will have to
    wait until I can test this, but you think this might be the issue?
    Thanks a lot for your input, I'll let you know as soon as I
    check that out.

  • Updating PSD files in a Flash movie

    Hello.  I'll start off by saying that I'm new to Flash.  I'm using the CS5 Web Premium suite and want to publish an updated version of a Flash movie that contains PhotoShop files which I've recently modified.  Unfortunately, when I open the .FLA file in Flash Professional CS5, it's not apparent to me how to do this.  I don't see the PhotoShop files anywhere in the Library pane and thus can't figure out a way to update the Flash movie to recognize my newly modified .PSD files.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
    In Flash you'll have to import those PSD files which can then be used as bitmaps and/or movie clips. Simply click on File -> Import and select the PSD file. Then you'll be presented with a dialog where you can select which layers to import.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem: Flash movie plays on desktop, but not on website

    Hi, I'm new to Flash but have successfully created a Flash Movie that works using Firefox and Safari on my (iMac) desktop, but not after I upload to my website.
    I started with an flv video, imported it into an fla document along with a playback skin then published it creating an html file and two swf files. I've checked the html file, and it looks fine. The flv file is only 17MB and I've uploaded all 5 files to my site on:
    http://www.cantata.co.uk/temp2/minorswing.html
    but all I seem to get is the control skin's "sending data" pole turning.The movie never arrives. I can get much bigger mpeg and wmv movies up on my screen very quickly.
    Can anyone suggest what the problem may be? I'm running Snow Leopard on my Mac (OX 10.6.6). I've tried using different videos but nothing seems to work.
    Here's the relevant html generated by Flash

    Thanks - I don't know what as2 is. I'm using Flash CS5. When I import the flv movie file, I'm asked to choose a skin and then a window comes up to tell me that the address of the flv file with respect to the other files will be minorswing.flv by which I take it to mean that all the files need to be in the same level of folder (directory). All five are in the same folder on my Mac and in the same folder on my website. I can't see how I can influence the program in choosing a different structure or outputting different html in the Publish Settings or elsewhere.
    I would have expected the relative structure of the files to be maintained between my desktop, where I can play the movie in my browsers, and the website, where I can't. I was surprised there was no "src" param name in the html, and I did try inserting one, but it made no difference, so I assumed the default for the html is to be in the same folder as the html and that the minorswing.swf file would contain information on the whereabouts of the flv file and the skin swf file.
    Is there a way of reading or editing the swf files to include an absolute url?

  • Cannot import a .mov file into the library

    I am trying to import a .mov file into my library so I can
    create a .fla file. Every time I try to import it into the library

    I would consider 10mb to be too big for a flash file. Even if
    it was CD
    I would load it dynamically to avoid performance problem.
    377mb is out of the question way beyond flash ability to
    maintain stable
    performance, not just the final output but the IDE itself.

  • Load a Captivate movie in a Flash movie

    I'm trying to load a captivate 5.5 swf into flash, even with a simple script like:
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("captivate.swf");
    var cargar:Loader = new Loader()
    cargar.load(request);
    var mc:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
    this.addChild(mc);
    addChild(cargar);
    I get an actionscript error:
    ReferenceError: Error #1065: No se ha definido la variable pbcBtnTips_FRA.
    at Aluminum_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
    ReferenceError: Error #1065: No se ha definido la variable pbcBtnTips_SPA.
    at Localization/frame1()
    This seems to be happen only to non-english Captivates, ie Spanish version.
    Any ideas?

    You could pause the Captivate project when you start to preload it by using the Captivate system variables. Then when your file has been loaded 100% you could resume it again by using a different system variable.
    You can see a list of the various system variables here: http://www.cpguru.com/2009/04/28/system-variables-in-captivate-4-%e2%80%93-a-complete-list /
    The relevant variables for you would be:
    rdcmndPause = 1; (to pause the project)
    rdcmndResume = 1; (to resume playback)
    Naturally you need the instancename (where you load your Captivate movie into) infront of the variable name.
    myLoaderContainer.rdcmndPause = 1;

  • Help with multiple flash movies in same website

    I'm trying to create a website in dreamweaver. I created the
    artwork in fireworks. a slice of it i exported to flash to create
    rolling clouds over the background. i also want in the same swf
    file a screen for my main content. ( I used a scrollPane component
    that works nice. But for each button on my web menu (home,
    schedule, ect...), I want to be able to put new content in my
    scrollPane. My buttons don't reside in my flash movie. Do I need to
    create a new movie for each web page?
    I'm not sure how to procede.
    Can anybody help?
    brad

    It seems that when you import an external flash movie into
    Captivate 1, the full path is...
    "_level0.slide0__image_mc.s0_i9_swf_mc.m_swf_mc"
    ...this was the start of the solution for my problem so I
    thought it best to post in case it helps out anyone else.
    BTW - The slide number changes (obviously) and so does the
    'i' reference depending on the attributes you have given to your
    imported movies.

  • Importing Flash (.swf) to Keynote

    Hi all,
    I am working in Keynote '08 (4.0.2) and have Quicktime 7.4.1 (14) installed. I need to import a Flash (.swf) file and play it in Keynote. Even though the online help says this: "You can also add video or Flash movies that play within a slide. For Flash to work with QuickTime 7.1.3 and later, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click QuickTime, click Advanced, and select Enable Flash." Keynote 4.0.2 does not accept .swf files (they are grayed out) and Quicktime 7.4.1 cannot play an .swf (This is not a movie file). Should I unistall QT 7.4.1 and install a previous QT version? Can Apple fix this problem? Any other suggestions? Thanks

    Thanks for your quick response. Perian helps with Flash video but as far as I can tell it does not help with swf format. I have an actionscript loaded flash file that cannot be converted to MPEG-4. If you are indeed correct and Apple no longer supports swf with QT then I want my money back for iWork. It clearly states in their manual/help that users can import swf files and play them in Keynote. What a rip-off.
    Is there a way to unistall QT 7.4.5?
    Thanks.
