  • Find photos by Folder name or Import Folder name into Metadata

    In iPhoto, I can locate photos by folder name. Is this available in Aperture (Managed or Referenced)? From what I've seen, you can only search on metadata fields, none of which contain folder names.
    If I cannot search on folder names, can Aperture import folder names into Metadata automatically. In other words, if I import a directory tree 2009Games, with subfolders Game-ABC, Game-DEF, etc.
    Can Aperture insert the subfolder name into the photo's metadata? I know I can add the text manually, but I would like Aperture to import a top level folder like 2009Games, and add the subfolder directory name to each photo's metadata.
    If that is not an option, how does someone migrate from folder organization to metadata searches without renaming every photo?

    What project and folder naming structure do you intend to use in Aperture to manage your collection?
    The inclusion of the file name in metadata for searching purposes seems to be redundant as you can always, if you really need to, see where a particular image is located on the hard disk by right clicking on it in Aperture and selecting "Show in Finder".

    Mac OSX, 10.7.5, LR 5.6  After creating a new folder in the Destination section and importing images, the new folder name appears as 2010, no matter what name I give it.  Why is it doing this?

    I am experiencing Mavericks failing to copy subdirectories from usb sticks, I am backing up game saves from a console. Both sticks I use are fine, same permissions of course since the console wrote the files. Sometimes it copies, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be related to the mounting process.
    Thank God Apple hasn't (yet) broken bash.

  • How to get right folder name/location on import?

    I can't seem to get LR 3.x to import into the desired folder structure like I used to do with
    LR 1.x and 2.x.  I'm trying for a structure that looks like this:
    I want LR to automatically create a folder with the date stamp in it and located in the right year and then let me enter the the last part of the folder name that identifies the subject matter before the import starts.  So far, all I can get is the auto-generated folder name by date with no ability to edit that or a fully custom folder name where I have to both locate it properly and type the entire name including date.  In LR 1.x and 2.x, this was really easy.  LR would suggest the folder name (or multiple folder names if the images span multiple dates) with the date in it and I could just double click on it to add to the supplemental name before the import.  Can't find any way to do that in LR 3.x.  What it means is that I have to do the import, wait for it to complete, then come back and manually rename each folder it created.  This is particularly a pain when there are multiple folders (across multiple dates) and/or when my backup program has already kicked in and done a backup of the auto-generated date before I come in and manually rename it.
    So, my question is, how do I get LR to auto-suggest the right date-based folder name in the right folder location and let me add something onto the end of it before the import?  This was very easy in LR1.x and 2.x import.

    It slipped under the radar when redoing the new import window.
    Hopefully, we'll get it back in next major update. In the meantime. you
    can add the additional text post import by right clicking on folder name
    then choosing Rename from context menu.
    Thanks Ian.  I hope it does indeed come back.  Renaming the directories manually is what I do now - it just extra work from how I used to do it and it doesn't fit smoothly into the workflow because LR seems to get confused sometimes if I rename while it's still importing or while still building thumbnails.  For a big import, that means I have to go away, let the thumbnails build, then remember to come back promptly to rename the directory before my backup scheme starts backing up the wrongly named directory.  I've managed since 3.x came out, but it finally annoyed me enough I thought I'd post in hopes I was just missing a way to do this.  I sure hope this comes back in a future version.  Organizing by named "shoot" is a very natural way for me to do it.

  • Unable to customize folder name on import

    I'm using import for several cameras and I would like to have possibility to change 'Date Format' of destination folder name in import dialog:
    Yes, there are several formats, but it would be very useful to have possibility to define my own. E.g. instead of 2012-10-06 I would like to have 2012_10_06. Now I have to rename all my folders after import, which is not very comfortable. I think the best way to make this perfect would be possibility to use 'Filename Template Editor' (used for renaming files) for folder names too.
    Thank you.

    The date format options available in Lr import module are quite limited and not user configurable. However, all is not lost. Basically, you should create the folders as per your prefererred naming convention using the OS tools then drag the files from the card to these folders. In Lr import module you use the Add option rather than Coy or Move. OK, it's not as convient, but it is a lot less liable to fall foul of Lr's import limitations.

  • How can I use Auto Import to name files after the folder they are dropped into?

    I'm camera tethered on a new Macbook Pro Retina, Lightroom 5, all latest software and OS. Using  EOS Utility to connect and drop into a DROP folder. When Lightroom Autoimports, I would like it to rename the file after the destination folder. Capture One has this feature and I could have sworn I saw a drop down menu on one of the naming tokens in LR5 about a month ago.  ANY IDEAS?

    The closest you can come is to create a File Naming Template that includes "Custom Text" as a part of the file name.  Then, you will have to change the Auto Import Settings to use this Template when auto-importing and manually type that folder name in every time you change folders.  There is no "Folder" token of which I am aware.

  • How to import my photos to Photos libray with the same folder name?

    how to import my photos to Photos libray with the same folder name?

    You can import  a folder of photos to the Photos.app by dragging the folder onto the Photos icon in the Dock. That will open an Import panel, and you can select to import all photos from the folder. But the folder name will be lost.
    The photos will appear in the "Last Import" album. Select them all in the Last Import and create a new album with the folder name (fFile > New Album).

  • How can I change the name of the imported folder.

    In FCPX, I create a library and create an event then I import media files (clips from an external hard drive) to the event. I choose to copy them to my Mac, not leave them in place.  If I select a folder on the external hard drive, it does not matter what the name of that folder is, FCP changes it to a date (apparently the date the files were last modified).  This is a crazy thing to do.  How can I keep the folder name or how can I change it after I import.  Thanks for anything you can say.  Mitch

    What version of FCP X? On Yosemite, you should be using at least 10.1.2, preferrably 10.1.4, the current version.
    Since 10.1.2, you select a location for the files in a Library - this is done in the Inspector. In the picture, I set to a folder called "The folder I choose".
    Then on import, you can decide to use the library location, or leave in place.
    FCP X organizes the files inside the library location folder in a specific way, similar to how they are organized when media is stored in the library itself.
    There is not much you can do about it, and you should not worry. But if you insist otherwise, the only way is to do the organizing yourself and use "leave in place" when importing.

  • Allow custom tag on folder name when importing

    I like the "2007-07-08" folder name syntax, but I would like to append a name to it, such as "2007-07-08 Ski Trip" or "2007-07-09 Pets". It is painful to have to go to custom, change the template, go back, import, and do this again and again. How about just an extra textbox on the import screen for "Title" of the import, which can be appended to the date?
    Thanks.
    Running Vista Ultimate.

    I miss the same thing, and others have stated this aswell! Just like file naming has the {custom text} option, folder naming should have exactly the same!
    The folder name preset YEAR-MONTH-DATE works fine, but I also want to add a custom text at the end, just like SoCalSteve.
    > How about just renaming the folder(s) after the import(s) are complete. This can done in the Folders panel using Rename on the context menu; a template isn't required.
    I know this is not too hard. But the idea with LR is to avoid extra steps like this. When you're done with the import dialog, you should be ready for working / reviewing photographs. Starting renaming folders after every import prooves that the import dialog needs more work.

  • How to change the folder name of saved pictures

    A problem I was facing with iPhoto 11.
    In the older version of iPhoto everytime I imported photoes from my camera it used to save it in the iPhoto Library under the same exact name as the Event Name. Meaning, if I chose the event name to be "2013 - My Birthday Party" and hit import for the pictures I wanted it to import, the same exact even name I could search for under the iPhoto Library. There under "Orginial" folder I could easily look for "2013 - My Birthday Party" a folder name same as the event name.
    Now in teh new version of iPhoto (iPhoto 11) first I've noticed that the folder "Original" now became "Masters" which is fine by me (who cares what teh name is, as long as it stores the pictures and can backup this folder with Time Machine). However, the second thing I realized and this is my problem, is that iPhoto stores all my imported photoes under folder and subfolders which indicates the date I imported the pictures from my camera and not the name of the event.
    This is quite annoying, as all my photoes since 2008 are categorized by the event name I gave them and not by the month/day/date etc. as it is now.
    My question is whether there is a way to enforce iPhoto to keep the old methodology of storing its photo while keeping the event name under the "Masters" folder?
    And please do NOT ask me why I need to go directly to the Finder folder... it doesn't resolve my issue.
    Thanks in advance!
    N

    You need the latest version of iPhoto for that export option - and you can't run that on 10.6.
    Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
    Exporting does not remove images from the Library, it simply make a new file.

    Hi Kumar ,
    the below code should help you.
    Register the below action for the leaf node for which u need the subfolder's name above it.
    Worked fine in my system ...hope it does in ur scenario too
    method ONACTIONGET_PATH .
      data : lr_element TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_element,
             lr_node TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_node,
             ls_path type string,
             ls_path_node TYPE string,
             lt_string type TABLE OF string,
             l_lines type i,
             l_lines_1 TYPE i.
      lr_element = wdevent->get_context_element( 'CONTEXT_ELEMENT' ).
    **-> getting the path of the node/leaf
    *which  u had clicked and from that getting the node above it
      ls_path = lr_element->get_path( ).
      SPLIT ls_path at '.' into table lt_string.
    -> remove the first 2 entries as they will contain the view name
      DELETE lt_string FROM 1 to 2.
      l_lines = LINES( lt_String ).
      l_lines_1 = l_lines - 1.
    -> remove the last 2 entries as they will contain the element in the path
      DELETE lt_string  from l_lines_1 to l_lines.
      LOOP AT lt_string into ls_path.
        CONCATENATE LINES OF LT_STRING into ls_path_node SEPARATED BY '.'.
      ENDLOOP.
    **-> getting access to the node above the leaf element
    LR_NODE = WD_CONTEXT->PATH_GET_NODE( path = ls_path_node ).
    lr_element = lr_node->get_element( ).
    **-> Getting the name of the folder...
    *here path is the attribute in my context which stores the name of the folder
    lr_element->get_attribute( EXPORTING name = 'PATH' IMPORTING value = ls_path ).
    endmethod.

    Like-- Original BA (TEST)
    ORDER (Folder)
    Item1
    Item2
    Item3
    Custom BA
    CUSTOM Order Folder
    Custom Item1
    Custom Item2
    Custom Item3
    Any help Appreciated.
    Thank
    ASIM

    Hi,
    If you are able to export and delete the original folder, then you can rename the identifiers of the new folder to be the same as the original folderand then open the workbook so that it uses the new folder. If you save the workbook, then rename the identifiers and re-import the orignial folder then you should find that the workbook continues to use the new folder.
    Otherwise take a look at this thread (Re: How to switch folder that report using form one to another? for a solution.

  • Did you change your home folder name and now your computer is all wierd?

    Hello. I did the same thing and I called apple help and they just couldn't help me on this subject. I was messing around with the computer and I found a proper solution where you don't have to re-install the software. Here are the steps:
    Step one: login (if your not already logged in) into the account. It should still be there as the original name.
    Step two: Open your Finder or HD and select the Users folder.
    Step three: You should see your original account name as well as any one else's account name if you have other people sharing the computer. In addition to this you will also see the name you attempted to use as a replacement for your old Home Folder name, note that this is a new unexpected user.
    Have it in column mode for the easiest experience.
    In the new folder you created (this is the user on the list that you named your original folder) You will find all your old settings. Don't do anything yet! take and highlight all of the content in that folder by holding shift and clicking or your preferred way. Drag ALL the content to your original home folder, which should only have library and Documents. (if it has more than it's okay) it will tell you that there are already folders with that name and will ask permission to replace them. Say yes.
    Step four: log out or restart your computer.
    Step five: log in, and or wait till it's restarted Your desktop and dock should be restored to the way you originally had it. Don't change the name on it again. if you want to change the name, you'll need to create a new user.
    Step six: Thank me and leave me complements or questions.

    I think it is rather surprising that the Mac OS allows you to change the name of the home folder and doesn't seem to put up a warning or anything.
    I did change the short name used on my home folder about three weeks ago. I used ChangeShortName Utility v1.2 which I got from here:
    http://www.macosxpowertools.com
    All indications are that using this utility has been 100% successful.
    I did create a new temporary account with administration privileges and I ran the utility from that account. This meant I wasn't changing the short name on the account I was actually using.
    It is very important to read the "read me" with ChangeShortName so that you are 100% sure of what you are doing when you use it.
    Also, of course, back up first

  • My images are still in the catalog, but the Folder name has disappeared. I need to get the folder back into my structure with the images in place

    Help: I have a very well defined folder structure. Folder are located in a Master location and organized by State. Inside of these are my master RAW file folders organized by location. For example: West Virginia > BIRI_RAW_2012, BLFA_RAW_2013, NERI_RAW_2013, etc. After I set up the masterful following a shoot, I go to LR and import the images. At one time I inadvertently imported the NERI_RAW_2013 masterful set as a subset of something else and it was not appearing in my LR Module in the organization I prefer. So I went to my master folders on my drive and moved the NERI file into the West Virginia state folder. When I went back to LR, as expected the NERI folder was grey with a question mark. So I right clicked to find the files and relink, and it did not work. The folder name disappeared. The RAW files are still in the catalog and show up in a missing photos search. I can't reimport because they are already there. I just need to restore my folder structure and get the images back to the right spot.

    So I right clicked to find the files and relink, and it did not work. The folder name disappeared.
    It didn't disappear, it moved (because you told Lightroom to move it). It moved from the incorrect folder location, to the new folder location. Please look in the new folder, in whatever location it is in, not in the old folder and the old location, and you will find the photos.

  • Missing "Import" folder in iPhoto

    A few weeks ago a pop up in iPhoto appeared saying "....photos have been found, import?" and I followed the steps through other posts to finding the import folder, moving it to desktop etc.
    again this pop up is appearing except I can no longer find the import folder because I must have deleted it back when I did this the first time...
    any suggestions?!
    please help!
