Import folder structure...

I have my pictures stored in year/month/day format on my HDD. Is there a way to import into Aperture with folders/projects showing year/month only?

So in the day folder are the image files? At what level in aperture do you want the projects? And what do you want the structure to look like? A folder for year, sub-folders for months then projects for each day? Or a project for each month?
When you import folders you have two options as to how you want the folders/sub-folders mirrored in Aperture. [See Why is Aperture not including subfolders when importing from another drive|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12886970&#12886970]

  • Import folder structure with MP3's with no tags from record collection

Until now I have maintained data of my music cassettes and vinyls in a filemaker database. All 5000 MP3's are stored in a structure similar like that of iTunes: for example all music of female artist is store like this
    females/first letter of artist = "B"/Bassey Shirley/Album Name.
I know that I can import one by one these folders to iTunes and do all the tag-entries manually. But I wonder if there was an easier way ... for example by having iTunes accept a given order structure = at least that with artist name and artist's albums. Yet this does only work if I have added tags prior to moving those folders to iTunes "automatic entry folder".
As an alternative I could use my Filemaker data ... provided someone of you folks has an idea of how to.
As a last resort I could imagine that this was possible with AppleScript - yet I am afraid that it would be too difficult for me to write such a script. If someone has an idea where I can obtain a script (for free or for money) I would appreciate any feedback.

May be I should give an update
My challenge is to transfer the MP3-files from some 800 Vinyl. After first going along with iTunes structure I decided to use the datafields my way. Main reasons: I wanted to keep the structure handy and I wanted to use primarily those fields as keys which can be searched for and structured alphabetically in iPod. You can for example list all interprets by alphabet but not the "work" may be it is English "opus" or "creation". So my structure is like this:
Titlenames = are the full names of the songs without leading short words like "a" "the"
Interpret = Last name first name which allows to skip an entry under "Sorting"
Interpret with only one title are also listed but in those cases I also use the field "Album interpret". Here I enter "other male" "other female" "other group" "other classic"
When you list by interpret in iPod then only the "album interprets" show ... but you can still search for the real name. In other words the album interpret is always used if iTunes finds BOTH fields filled out.
I always use the album-fields since otherwise iTunes makes up a "misc album" So I give each interpret at least one album which then has his name. In case there are several records (like I have some boxes with all records of Mozart or Strauss) I make up on box-album only and use the numbers for CDs and tracks. So record 1 becomes CD 1 of 8. Sound like much work but you can first enter all individual data and than select all MP3-lines of a box and enter the overwriting infos like "Mozart". Same goes for all my single 45RPM vinyls.
As "Genre" I gave up on deciding is it Pop or R&B or HipHop. So I only use the above structure male, female, duet, group, chorus, instrumental, classic
The BMP field is use to show the original numbers of my vinyls as given in my FileMaker Database. Works out fine and I can export it to Excel if needed.
What I also found out is that you can force videos to show up as music. In that case you have to select under options the pulldown "MusicVideo". So you can even start to save your family videos as .264 files import them to iTunes / iPod and have a bette access than by using the direct videoplay function of the iPod.
The Frontcovers of my vinyls I have drag and dropped in form of jpg's. You can even add several picture and you can do this with a selection of severals MP3-files (the pictures of my vinyls were taken with a Nikon 2200 and made smaller via batchrun in GraphicConverter).
There is also another way to reduce clutter: All the less interesting musing has been marked as "compilation" which reduces the number of albums. So all my compilations of this kind start with "aa" (a single "a" would be ignored by iTunes in respect to sorting). Here is an example of my male "garbage collection":
aa male english, aa male French, aa male German,
    or in "instrumental:
aa instr flute, aa instr guitar, aa instr piano
I am not saying that this is the best way - should rather give some ideas of how one can use that somewhat stubborn iTunes.
Eventually I will do a "reverse engineering" by exporting the final iTunes database, importing it to FileMaker and recombine the data based on Vinyl- and tracknumber with the old database.

  • Import folder structure. Incorrect date on folders.

I'm trying to import a bunch of jpg photos taken in 2006 and 2007 to my Aperture 3 library. I use a referenced library in my pictures folder and I would like the files to be copied to new folders named after the year, month and day they were taken. However, each time I try to import these photos some are placed in a folder named 2001, while some of the files actually end up in folders named after the right year. According to the meta data of the photos they are all taken in 2006 and 2007. I tried re-importing the same photos a couple of times and each time a different number of my photos end up in a folder named 2001. It's very annoying and I would be very grateful if someone could help me solve this issue!
    Anton

Hi Anton.  A possible work-around.  Import as you have been doing, then select all of the imported Images in Aperture and run "File→Relocate Masters ... " using the setting "Subfolder format:  Image Year/Month/Day".  I have started seeing similar failures to properly file Referenced Masters on import.  Re-filing them from within Aperture has put them all in the right Finder folders.
Please report back with what you find out.  I have no idea what is causing the problem.

  • Import Folder(s)

I'm usually given a HD with footage that is organized into folders:
    - Interviews
        Larry > Gym
        Larry > Outside
        Bob
        Brenda
    - B-Roll
        Building
        Customer Service
Counter > Taking Money > Close Up
             Counter > Greeting Customers
I would like to keep said structure when I import into Premiere but it seems to just dump the footage into the media pool.
Is there any way to import the Folders of your Footage and force Premiere CS6 to keep your folder structure and create Bins accordingly?

Thanks Ann Bens (& Jeff Greenberg).
It worked as suggested. It even brought over the pesky little "NewTek Info" folders from a client that I sometimes can't see in Explorer/Finder. Everything was Nice, Neat, and Organized, exactly the way they were set up. - I guess I should visit 'Bessie' more often as everything I found here for 'Import Folder Structure' led me to LightRoom discussions.
I sure hope being able to import Folder Structures will make its way over to Premiere  as sometimes I edit on a box that does not have AE installed and this feature is super handy. Especially when a client or someone has already taken the time to organize the folders and will probably reference this structure when talking about footage or requesting a certain shot.
The method of importing individual subfolders can be T > Te > Ted > Tedi > Tedio > Tediou > Tedious

  • How to import photos from a folder that contains hundreds of folders to Photos keeping the same folder structure?

How to import photos from a folder that contains hundreds of folders to Photos keeping the same folder structure?

You'll have to do that manually, i.e. export each album of photos to a folder with the same name located on your hard drive via  the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option.

  • Retaining folder structure on imported photos.

Thank you for reading this.  I just purchased an Ipad to be used as a sales device for our design team.  I have a folder of thousands of pre sorted and categorized pictures on my PC desktop that i want to import to the ipad while retaining the folder structure organization i have made.  When i try to import them, it sorts all the pictures off of date while seemingly ignoring my folder structure.
For instance, we sell swimming pools so i have my photos broken into several categories such as free form, rectangular, stone decks etc...  I want the ipad to break those folders into a separate gallery for each folder containing pictures so we can browse them in the way i have organized them.
Anyone have any insight into this process?
    Scott

However, unless I want to start over, the LR tutorial advises that, as a catalog has no upper limit, there should be no reason to create a new one.  Is there a reason to create multiple catalogs and if so what is it?
The only reasons in my mind are if you have completely non-overlapping subject matter (like business and personal). Otherwise, one catalog is the way to go.
In your case, following 99jon's advice, creating a new catalog is meant to replace the incorrect catalog that you previously created, so in reality, you have only a single catalog (the new one), you won't be using that first catalog you created ever again.

  • Importing images with folder structure

    Hi
I want to import images into Lightroom that are on my hard disk but keeping the existing folder structure.  When I try this, even if I tick include sub folders, the images import but all within the parent folder - all sub folders are ignored.
Is there a way around this?
    Many thanks

Are you selecting "Add" at the top of the import dialog when importing?  That preserves folder structure by adding them to the Lightroom catalog in-place.

  • Retaining folder structure when importing videos

Having created a new library just for my videos I want to import them but without copying into iTunes. I know how to do that.
But I do not know how to reflect the folder structure  in iTunes. What I mean is this:
My videos are in several folders (which happen to be at the same level) e.g.
    <European vacations> <North American Vacations> <Cruises> .....
When I Add to library or drag and drop the individual videos are imported but the structure ofthe folders is not. (so far as Ican tell)
Is there any way to do this so that I can navigate to a folder using iTunes?
It is my intention to buy an AppleTV to hook up to my LAN and HD TV.
Right now I'm using another piece of SW and I cna navigate the folders.
    TIA for your suggestions

On my hard disc, the music is stored in folders, as below:
    Classical>
    Beethoven>
    1st Symphony>
    -1st Movement
    -2nd Movement
    -3rd Movement
    -4th Movement
    Rock>
    Allman Bros.>
    Brothers and Sisters>
    -song1
    -song2
    -song3
    -etc.
    Eat A Peach>
    -song1
    -song2
    -song3
    etc.
But I can't figure out how to load all this music into iTunes while retaining the folder structure, it just dumps them all together in the main playlist...

  • Can I keep folder structure at import??

    Hi,
I am a new User auf Itunes. On my harddisk i have several folders sorted by topics. Can i keep this folder structure when i import the songs into itunes? When I tried it yesterday all songs were in the main folder in itunes. I dont want to sort these songs again.
Is there any possibility to keep this folder structure?
    thank you !!!!!!
    ingo

If you have music organised in folders before you installed iTunes and you want to keep you music where it is, go to:
    Edit>Preferences>Advanced>General
Find the check box "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library"
If you uncheck this box, iTunes just stores the location of the file and does not copy it into the iTunes Music folder.
There is also a check box called Keep iTunes Muisc folder organised. If this box is checked, iTunes organises files in the iTunes Music folder into folders by Arist / Album. It does nothing outside the iTunes Music folder.
It is important not to move files in the iTunes library yourself or iTunes will loose them. iTunes does not watch folders like some other music players.

  • Import Scenarios - Keep folder structure

When I import a scenario folder the scenarios get inserted into the root of the Scenario pane and lose the folder they where in - Is this normal behaviour ? Is there a way to keep the folder structure?
Its a royal PITA to drag and drop again as im working with a work repos over a WAN and its slow.
    Cheers
    Alastair

I agree that its a pita and it is the only behavior. With several developers working in parallel, we have this problem all the times. A few people wont approve touching the Work repository directly but I would suggest creating a procedure to update the Work repository to update the parent id of the scenarios that dont have any parent id set. This can be done after you import all the scenarios and they stick on the root level.

  • Importing existing folder structures?

My old folder structure built up over years before I started using Lightroom has hundreds of subfolders and is entirely logical. I can import all the photos into lightroom, but not the folder structure. Is there an easy way to do this?

    In the Import Dialog:
Choose a top-level folder that contains your existing hierarchy on the LH Side and make sure [Include Subfolders] is clicked.
At the top of the dialog, select the [Add] option.
This will add the photos to your LR catalog in-place rather than copying them to a new structure.

  • How to import files and convert folder structure to collections hierarchy?

My RAW files are organised on disc by date, e.g.
    2013
    01
    02
    etc
    2014
    01
    02
    etc
    2015
    01
    2015-01-05 Family outing
    2015-01-27 Walk along the Canal
    etc
    02
    2015-02-01 Visiting granny
    2015-02-05 Golf
    2015-02-07 Skating competition
    etc
I would like to batch import these into Lightroom (Lightroom CC) and have the folder structure above replicated in Collection Sets and Collections (i.e. one collection set for each year, and within each one have a collection set per month, and within that individual collections for the folders)
Is there a way to make this happen automatically?
    Many thanks,
    /alan

    Hi.
Trash the iPhoto Library folder that you created on your Mac, or rename it "iPhoto Library damaged" if you may need some of its contents. Copy the iPhoto Library folder from the backup into your Pictures folder. Hold down the Option key as you launch iPhoto and select "Choose Library" from the dialog. Navigate to the good iPhoto Library folder and open. iPhoto should launch and open your library in exactly the same condition it was in when the backup was made. If all goes well you don't have to import anything.
If the library is still missing items, you can try a database rebuild. Hold Command and Option while you launch, select the first 3 options in the dialog, and rebuild. This can fix a library with a slightly damaged database.
If the library still isn't working you may have to create a new library (Option-Launch, select "Create") and import your Originals folder from the backup library. This will give you the pictures back without creating duplicates, but your albums and other items will not be recovered.
    Regards.

  • When I import my media it breaks apart my folder structure

Strange thing started happening and I'm not sure what changed.  The way I organize my media is in a folder tree like this:
    - Client
      - Project
        - Exports
        - Elements
        - Raw Media
           - Shoot day 1
              - Card 1
              - Card 2
           - Shoot day 2
             - Card 1
             - Card 2
Normally I just import my my raw media folder for that project into premier and folder structure stay intact but now it's not.  it gives me the folder that I import and then all the clips but I loose the other folders for day and card.  It's a particular pain in the *** because the project was shot on a Sony FS700 and the 700 does do distinct file names.  Every time to start a new card it starts on with 00000.  Anyone have a clue on how I can fix it?

Well I do something similar. But I start at Project.
On the Hard drive I just Ingest / Import the camera card  structure from and including the Folder "Private">.mts"
I just  Import the .mts files to a Bin in the Project Window that has the same naming protocol as on the HDrive. eg Day1 >Card 1 etc...
    No problems ever.
and the 700 does do distinct file names.
I think you meant "does NOT do..."

  • Can I import and keep folder structure?

I have thousands of pics and videos.  I'm willing to buy in to the whole iCloud experience (literally), but in my small experiments, I couldn't see how to import and KEEP the folders containing numerous pics.  For example, if I have 1000s of FAMILY pics, TRAVEL pics, and FRIEND pics, all in separate folders.   Can I import these pics (currently on Onedrive; I assume I can't import direct from Onedrive to iCloud.com?) keeping the separation and folder breakdown I worked so long to organize?  Every attempt I've made, strips the folder and throws all pics in together.  Yes, I know we can use clever tricks like geotags and dates to separate the photos to an extent.  But most of my photos don't contain that metadata.  And moreover, I've already manually done the work to my liking.  Any ideas?

Import your folder structure to iPhoto, and then migrate the iPhoto Library to Photos.
iPhoto will create an event for each folder you import and name it like the folder. You can simply drag the whole folder structure onto the iPhoto icon.
When you open the iPhoto Library in Photos, Photos will create an album for each iPhoto event.

  • Importing .mts files not nested in original camera folder structure

    The short version:
Is there any way to import .mts files already copied to a hard drive, without keeping the camera's folder structure intact, into Premiere Pro CS5.5?
    The long version:
I recently purchased an iMac. For years I edited video on Windows using Sony Vegas and Vegas Home Studio. My camera, the Panasonic Lumix TS2, shoots AVCHD video. Vegas has no problem importing and editing AVCHD .mts files from a camera or a hard drive so it wasn't until I attempted to edit some video in Premiere Pro, recieved the "unsupported compressions type" error message and did some searching that I realized folder structure is so critial to working with AVCHD. From what I can tell, the files have to be in the PRIVATE>AVCHD>BDMV>STREAM>xxxxxxx.mts confirguration to be imported via the media browser.
Here is my situation, I have hundreds of .mts files in separate folders, bundled together with photos from the same day or event. I'm on an iMac i7, using an activated version of Premiere Pro CS5.5 from the Master Collection. Is there any way I can import and edit these files natively? And in the future, is there any way around transferring the entire folder structure everytime I want to copy the video files to my hard drive? I use Bridge to import photos and it will just pull the video files off the card and plop them in the same folder. Having to transfer the videos separately seems like a silly work around in our modern age. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yo! I used to have this problem for about 1 year!! And fixed it about half a year ago and I have never been as happy when I fixed it!
Be sure that your sequence settings are set to the right settings: When you create a new sequence you should be promped with a window asking what settings you want. Open the "AVCHD" folder and there should be 3 folders; 1080p, 1080i, 720p. Pick the one that you filmed at, I film at 1080p, so I open that folder and then you pick the right setting to what you filmed your scene. I film at 24 fps so i pick AVCHD 1080p24 (non-anamorphic). Now there should be a new sequence with the right settings (don't use the same settings as I do unless you have filmed at the same frame rate and that it was filmed at 1080p or 1080i, there is a big difference between "p" and "i"). If you go in to the window in the bottom left corner there should be a tab on that box that says "Media Browser". Click it and the directory to your computer should be shown. If you have your SD card connected there should be something called SD card (or if you have renamed it then it is obvious what you should select). After selecting it there should be a folder called AVCHD and you open it up. This is where it gets tricky... because I don't know what camera you use and don't have any experience with your camera then you will have to go through all the folders that are within the AVCHD folder. They are not so many but in the folder where all the clips are hidden they should be called 00626.mts for example. Then you just select the clips you want to import and import them. This process can also be done by opening Finder (mac) or on PC just open up the same way and select the clips you want and drag them i to your project window
Then if you drag a clip in to the sequence, this is were you see if you did all the steps right (with the sequence settings) then the light above the clip should be yellow, meaning that the playback engine recognizes the format and can play it back without any compression Therefor giving you much better quality videos!
Hope this helps, I know the pain you are going through, don't want it to happen to anyone else
