Import folders to Itunes and convert bitrate.

I have some 400+ folders relating to 400+ albums I have ripped to 320bps.
This is a Windows XP machine and the folder format is:-
C:\User\Mp3\Folder 1, C:\User\Mp3\Folder 2.....C:\User\Mp3\Folder 444
I need to retain the original folder format as they are played from my PC through my Hifi; they are backed up off this machine!
I want to convert all the files in these folders to 128bps so that I can put them on my 20GB Ipod.
Every suggestion I have seen seems to mean that I can only do this at file level; opening 400+ folders and selecting the, 4367, files is going to be some task.
Is there a way that Itunes can import these folders AND convert to 128bps?

Thank you for your advice.
I should explain what I want. I have spent the last month or so ripping my CD collection and storing the results in folders of my choice.
We mainly play the MP3s on our PC using Winamp with the Dynamic Library plugin that allows me to just select a folder which is normally just one album. This means that we don't have to setup play lists to listen to a symphony.
The Ipod is really my wife's. I use a Palm TX to listen to music on the move. I load MP3s onto SD cards and the Palm will again play a folders worth i.e an album from that.
So I need to retain the folder structure I have setup on my PC.
Using Advance > Convert Selection does create a folder structure but not in my way. I creates an Artist folder then a Album folder. I would have to select only the album folders for my Palm; 400 separate selections and I would have to amend every one because my chosen folder name has the Artist or the Composer as the first part of the folder name e.g Beethoven Symphony No 1, Elvis Presley The Collection Vol 1 etc This structure works very well in Dynamic Library and my Palm.
I have found some software that converts to 128 and keeps my folder structure but it loses some of the Tag information.
Before I start looking for other software I thought I would see if Itunes can do the conversion. I suppose I was hoping for a button that said keep users folder structure and names!
Any further advice would be appreciated

You can't do it in one step. Add to iTunes first, Once the tracks are in iTunes you may convert to a different format.

Did you purchase them on your iPad with the same Apple ID that you are using for iTunes on your iPhone and that iTunes on your Mac is sign into?

  • An Album (CD) I have imported in my iTunes, and is on my iPod, will not sync over to my iPad. Why not?

An Album  (CD) that I have successfully imported into iTunes, and synced with my iPod, will NOT sync with my iPad, even though I have done everything I know how to do so. When viewing the music in "On This iPad" mode, I can actually see the album there, but it is grayed out, and in the left hand column there is a circle with dotted lines, as if it is an incomplete download--which in essence it is. But I have the album (CD) in my iTunes and on my iPod, just like hundreds of other CD's--what's up with this one?
Another characteristic is that since trying to import this CD into my iPad, I cannot get a successful sync of the iPad now; the syncing process hangs up in "Waiting for changes to be applied" for 3 or 4 minutes, and then it just stops.  No message that "The syncing process is complete. Please eject before disconnecting." The sync just quits on its own, so I take it that the syncing process was unsuccessful.
    Now what?

Make sure that your music is in the format supported by the iPhone. I use either MP3 or AAC.
A friend had the same problem a while back. All his music was in the WMA format and is therefore not playable on the iPhone and would not copy. Once he converted his songs to MP3 they copied to his iPhone without problem.

  • Odd problem importing folders into iTunes

I am trying to import all my music into itunes, and it is already organised into folders of mp3's.
The problem is with compilation albums. Some seem to have an album created for every track, whilst others may have 3,4,5 or up to 8 tracks in one album, with the rest of the album tracks having their own 'album' in itunes.
Obviously this makes it manic trying to play an album on the ipod classic 160 gig, or find certain tracks.
I did try changing sort fields but that doesn't appear to have any affect at all.
Does anyone know a way around this so that "Love songs" is just one album with 20 songs inside instead of 20 seperate albums each entitled from the song?

See my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • I have my playlists in folders in itunes and suddenly I can't open the folders anymore?

Since in iPhoto folders do not hold photos but hold other folders or albums there is a good chance of confusion here - are you speaking of albums or events?
In general you select photos  by clicking on one and depressing the command key and clicking on additional photos --  or probably easier selecting oen photo and creating an album and then dragging additional photos to that album - once you have what you want to send collected open the album and select all and e-mail them

  • Best way to import folders of Photos and keep folder name?

    Hi,
Is there a way to import folders containing photos into iphoto so that once it copies into iphoto it shows up as a named album?
    OR
do always you have to create a new album, name it and then add pics to it?
    OR.....
Is there an easy way using iphoto to merge 2 different libraries into one?

In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events, uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from Finder.
Then drag a folder of images to the Albums heading in the iPhoto Window and the pics will be imported and an Album of the same name will be created.
Is there an easy way using iphoto to merge 2 different libraries into one?
Using iPhoto? No. Using the paid version ($20 approx) of iPhoto Library Manager, Yes.

  • How to import folders into itunes 11 under windows 8?

I had to reinstall itunes and have lost the media data.
All music is in a new folder and I would like to import the folder with all the subfolders and music files.
But I don't find a tool in itunes 11 (under Windows 8) to import a folder.
I can only import multiple files if they are in one folder - that will take forever ...

Thanks for this answer. I didn't trust my self to muck-around with the seettings, no matter how basic they sounded.
I'm doing the suggestion now. It's coverting everything for iTunes while I type this.
(I thought Apple had gotten snobby about it, phew! )

  • Importing Mov. Files and Converting to Prores

Hello everyone. I just purchased the Canon 5D Mark 3. I'm new to DSLR's. I'm not sure how to import and convert my footage to Apple's Prores files. I'm curious if there is a thread that will explain the process to import and convert the footage. To put things in perspective my last camera was a mini dv. Sony FX1. So I have been importing footage via firewire for a while now. Kinda lost since the world of Video has changed. Thanks for any and all help, advice, links and otherwise.
    Jeffery

This is the typical tapeless workflow for FCP...including Canon 5D.  But, not sure it works for the Mark III...worth a shot:

If that won't do it...then use Compressor to convert to ProRes.  Or MPEG STREAMCLIP...or 5DtoRGB (that one takes a long time)

  • Trouble importing video to iTunes and watching on ATV2

I have a ton of home video that I want to send from my mac to my new apple tv. I can't for the life of me get this video into itunes...and even when I can get itunes to import some of the clips, they don't show up in my library on the apple tv. I figure this must be a video format issue. I've transcoded all the clips to .mov files and my apple tv still doesn't show them in my library. very puzzling. anyone run into this problem?
PS the original files are M2TS files from my Canon video camera.

So .mov files won't work in itunes?
Not at all. MOV files are file containers that contain any compression format that is supported by your current QT component configuration. This can include DivX, Xvid, multiplexed or elementary MPEG1/2 streams, Flash, Windows media, etc. (I.e., any compressed audio and video data saved using the "Save As..." QT 7 Pro option is automatically placed in an MOV file container. Therefore, placing compressed data in an MOV file container does not, in and of itself, make the data playback compatible with mobile device media players which do not share your main system QT components.
I want my files to stay HD so I've been transcoding using h264.
So what is preventing you? Applications like QT 7 Pro, iMovie, GarageBand, MPEG Streamclip, HandBrake, Turbo.264HD, etc. all have device specific conversion presets to turn your files into iTunes managed/mobile device compatible files. As a general rule of thumb, if you files can be played on your Mac, one or more of the mentioned applications can convert it for you.
So much for apple stuff being "easy".
Try visiting the QT forum to learn more about QT and third-party conversion techniques or join your local Apple User Group Video SIG for general or "one-on-one" assistance.

  • Itunes and converting video's

    Can anyone help me?
I have some movies (Quicktime and Media Player movies) and I want to convert them to AAC so I can use them for my Ipod.
Problem is I don't know how to do that.
I've tried a lot of convertingprograms, but I couldn't find AAC converters.
Please help me, cause I don't want to buy any movies at the Music Store of Itunes.

Please go to this forum iPod with video and read some of the 100's of posts about this very question.
Please note that AAC is a music format not a video format.

Possibly. Media Go supports a variety of music formats, some of which can be imported in to iTunes and then synced on to an iPhone, however some of its formats cannot be imported in to iTunes.
See http://mediago.sony.com/enu/supported-file-formats/ for a list of formats supported by Media Go. iTunes for Windows supports MP3, AAC, WAV, and can import and convert WMA files as well. However iTunes does not support ATRAC, or FLAC.
Furthermore, if some of your music has been bought from an Internet music store it might be procted by DRM. If so it cannot be imported in to iTunes.
To do the importing you would either drag the music files in to iTunes, or tell iTunes to open them. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347

  • Import and convert MPG using vbscript

    Hi,
Does anybody know can I import a video file and convert the footage to iPod compatible format using vbscript?

  • Need expert advice to import and convert video using Windows COM SDK

    Hi,
Does anybody know can I import a video file and convert the footage to iPod compatible format using vbscript?
I found a COM function 'convertfile', but it seems only work with audio and doesn't work with mpg files. Does the current version of COM SDK 6.0.2.23 support conversion of mpg?

Thanks, but I know iTunes 6 (windows version) has a built-in function to convert a video to a format for iPod G5. That's why I wonder if the iTunes Windows COM SDK has the function call so that I can automatically import my scheduled recording to iPod. I think that's the advantage of iTunes / iPod. Actually I love my iPod G3 and iPod mini, but I don't see a reason for me to upgrade to G5 if it only accept H264 and mp4 because all my recordings (directly from my TV card) are only mpeg format and there is currently no command line tools to convert them for iPod. I know a bit of programming and it is much more conveninent to use scripts to do the mpg -> ipod conversion automatically than doing it manually using GUI programs..
    Thanks

    Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble importing music from CDs and converting files on my computer. The computer just turns off when I do these things and I'm really stuck as to why. Can anyone help?

I just started having the same problem. I was able to import songs from 5 cds with no problem, but when I tried a few more my mac started shutting down about halfway through the import of the song. It doesn't matter how many songs I choose to import, it happens on the first one everytime. Did you find a fix for this?
