Import footage that was corrected on monitor with 2,35 gamma
Hi,
I received Prores HQ footage that was color corrected on a monitor with 2,35 gamma.
It looks quite bright on my monitor which is calibrated to 2,2 gamma.
What would be the easyest way in After effects to adjust the gamma from 2,35 to 2,2 so that the image will look as it should.
1 / 2,35 * 2,2 = 0.936
Add a gamma effect set at 0.936

How do I fix footage that was capture in the wrong format?
Hi there,
I want to edit footage that was supposed to be captured in 16.9. 720 x 480(1.2121) but once imported onto premiere pro cs4 looks like this
according to properties it was captured in 16.9. 720x480(0.9091)
How can I convert it to the first settings? 16.9 720x480(1.2121)
Please help.
Thanks,
ElioThe best way is to work in a 4:3 sequence. On an older square TV, it'll be 16:9 with black bars on top and bottom. On newer widescreen TVs, it'll be both letter and pillar boxed with black bars on all sides, in which case you set the TV to Zoom mode.

I tried to update to newest version via pc. I got error because i didn't have this recovery program disc that was supposed to come with the purchase so it says, but it didn't and now my ipod touch 8gb won't connect with itunes anymore and is stuck on a screen displaying an itunes icon with a usb icon.
oke i'm not done with the whole thing, but i'm doing that right now. Most of the advice I've already read didn't work and at a certain point it said something about shutting down programs then restart. but i notice that there are some pretty important system things in that list and i don't want to mess up my pc :s i'm not a pc genius... and because i'm dutch and my pc-language is in dutch I often have trouble translating and well... i don't always understand the technical stuff in all the articles -_-

ever since I upgraded iPhoto to 9.5, my camcorder videos aren't all downloading properly and I have several of the videos to say a necessary data reference could not be found. I also can see many of the pixels on the video footage that was downloaded. Anyone have any suggestions???
What version of iPhoto and system are you using? Also what camera make and model are you using?
See if you can download all of the videos to a folder on the Desktop using Image Capture and import into iPhoto from that folder.

How can I up-rez footage that was shot in DV-widescreen into an HDV project
We were shooting an HDV project this past week and one of the cameras we used (a Canon HV-20) was set to "DV-Widescreen" mode instead of HDV when recording. Obviously, this is a big screw up on our part, but I know the footage can still be captured in Final Cut and then "up-rezzed" for use in our HDV project to match all our other footage that was shot in HDV mode.
The question is, what settings (or method) is the best way to do this in FCP?
ThanksGood to know about the Compressor looking better. I didn't know that information.
That said, if I do DV/NTSC it does capture it but it squashes the aspect ratio into a 4x3 frame. Because this was shot in DV "Widescreen" the original video image is 16x9. How do I import it so that doesn't happen and the 16x9 ratio is preserved?
Actually, I just watched that video and I need to know the answer to the above question regardless. Whether I use FCP or Compressor (and obviously I'll probably use the latter) I need my initial footage to be in it's original 16x9 aspect ratio. So how do I get that when digitizing it initially? -
How do you import video that was on VHS that is now on DVD into FCE 4?
The footage that I will be using is was on VHS and was then put on to DVD. I just have no idea if and how to import it into FCE 4. All the footage is archival that was on VHS and is being used in a documentary. So it would be great to know how to do this and any help would be great! ohh I'm also new to the FCE 4 world!
Welcome to the forum!
It would be better to work with the VHS directly as DVD-Video is highly compressed. But if that's all you have to work with, you have two options: hardware or software.
The hardware method involves connecting a DVD player's analog outputs to a qualified DV device (camcorder, VTR or converter) then connecting the DV device to your Mac via Firewire.
The software method means using MPEG Streamclip or DVDxDV to convert the DVD's VOB files into an editable format.

Importing footage results in blacked out clips with only lo-fi audio
Hello,
I have iMovie '08 7.1.4 (585), and I'm running into some trouble importing footage from my Canon Vixia HF20.
I'm trying to import 1080i footage from a full drive (30 GBs or so), and after a "successful" import sequence, half of my clips are blacked out, with only a low sample rate stream of audio present from the clips.
I've done this import about five times now, in different configurations. The USB connection is directly to my iMac (3.06 GhHz w/ OS 10.6.2), and everything is straight forward. I just can't get iMovie to recognize the clips.
I've successfully imported footage before - it just seems like the sheer amount is throwing iMovie off. Any suggestions?
Thanks!I suspected that as well. I've tried manual and automatic importing, but not in smaller chunks. I'll give that a go in the future....
In the meantime, I read elsewhere of an individual who backs up his flash drive camera content as whole disk images, which then are imported to iMovie for editing. Sounds like he had better luck w/ a disk image - plus the use of disk space is a bit more in your favor, versus iMovie's archiving scheme...
I'll report back with my findings. Thanks for your suggestion. -
Background's color that was corrected showing up again in fast movements
I color corrected a shot and the color of background was changed via secondaries, just like a chroma key situation.
It works very fine, except when the actor is moving faster:
For example, when he moves an arm a little faster, then it creates a king of flicker, because the old color of the background is "coming back" on the edges of the arm, during the movement.
In FCP, when I go frame by frame, the shot is fine, the arm moves frame by frame and you cannot see the previous color of the background on the edges of the arm.
I see the problem on the TV, when watching a burned DVD. I tried Compression markers on the movement but it doesn't help.
I wonder if this due to Color or FCP or Compressor.
Thanks. Most of the challenges that you're encountering are common compositing woes.
Whether its film-originated shutter blur or video interlace, motion generates values in the transitional zone that can't always be solved with a single approach.
COLOR was never intended to be a compositing tool. That is why there is AfterEffects and Shake and all the rest. A roto-scoped vignette probably won't help and will be arduous at best. A major contributing reason is that you would need a shape for every field, not frame, which is all you can do.
Try a second cloned layer in Final Cut if you don't want to deal with a dedicated green-screen/compositing application. Use your original as the foreground, cut a matte with it and reveal your cloned layer which you could re-correct with the three-way FCP correction filter.
With an app like Shake, which accounts for interlace, you can generate several mattes, extract and create alpha channels, dodge them, dilate-erode-blur them, combine mattes and so on til the cows come home, have a beer and leave again. Which I believe I will do.

You can’t, and Apple won’t do it for you; the activation lock is an anti-theft measure. Try getting a refund for it.

I need some help! I was able to download my HP printer software on to my Macbook Pro, but cannot find the Scan feature on the computer to be able to scan a document. If someone could LMK what I need to do, or where I need to look to find this I would appreciate it!
That would be a function of the driver that came with the printer. Make sure you have the latest driver appropriate to your system, either from HP or:

How to export imported pst that was in outlook for mac?
I have a mac air, with Outlook for mac 2011. over the last year this has been crashing quite a bit so i am going to add parrells for windows. issue is that i have some time ago imported pst in the outlook for mac but how do i export?
Hi Clinton,
the mailing list manager only lets me create rules and the outlook forums don't seem to adress the issue I am having.
I can see every where how to create the mailing group, and as far as i can see, I'm doing it corectly, however, I can't send the mail to the group as it sees something wrong with the mails. I've even double checked the mailing adresses just to be sure.
Must say, I'm stumped on this one..
Thanks for trying

Can't import video that was recorded on my phone.
It was recorded on an iPhone 5S.
Details:
-Imported from iPhoto
-Enable: All Acceptable Files
-Format: Quicktime
-Import as: FootageDo other QuickTime features in After Effects work, such as the ability to export to QuickTime? If not, then there may be a problem blocking QT32 Server.

Please, someone help me, i had some very important photos to keep and they were mistakenly eraised from iCloud. I need to restore!
It happaned on July 10th of 2012 around 11:50hr.Welcome to the Apple Community.
What do you mean they were erased from iCloud, do you mean from photo stream. Photo stream only keeps photos that are added to it from your camera roll, are your photos not still on your camera roll. -
IMPORTING FOOTAGE INTO FCE AND MERGING FILES WITH FINAL CUT STUDIO
So I recently purchased Final Cut Express to create off-line, rough cut projects...to be completed by more qualified editors other than myself. But I want to make sure that Final Cut Express is the right system for me.
Here are my questions:
1.) I will be using a variety of video formats for this system, and will be ingesting primarily through a shared media drive. Should I be concerned by the fact that it says I can only use "HDV, AVCHD, and DV" for simultaneous edit? What if I originate my material on Beta or DVCPro and want to import using firewire?
2.) Will my timelines be compatible to other (higher-end) Final Cut programs?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
ChipWelcome to the forum!
1.) If the video you plan to use is not HDV, DV, or AVCHD then it will not be able to be ingested by FCE. The best way to get your media into FCE would be to capture it, but if it originates somewhere else you can still import it into FCE provided it is one of the formats cited above. If your media is not one of these three, you will have to use a convertor to make it "readable" by FCE. If you want to keep the full resolution of another format, you are better off directly going to Final Cut Pro, as it can handle these formats.
2.) Final Cut Pro will be able to open your Final Cut Express timelines, but you will not be able to go back the other way around. So only let your editors open the project in FCPro once you are done using it in FCE.
If you are planning to shoot professional videos, FCE transcodes into Apple Intermediate Codec, usually giving you lower quality then if you were to ingest the media in FCPro, which uses ProRes for higher quality yet larger file sizes. If you are not worried about the mentioned drawbacks to using FCE as a first-cut before FCP, then you should be fine.
