Import from a Lide Scanner

I own several versions of Photoshop Elements (PSE).  In V8, I can import scanned images from my Canoscan Lide 500F scanner.  Recently, I purchased PSE V11 only to find that this facility is not available.
Question, will the facility ever be available in V11 and will it be available in V12?

You will need to move the twain plug-in by copying the import-export folder from optional plug-ins. Close elements and follow the instructions on the following link for your computer operating system.

  • Importing from canoscan 8800 scanner

Brand new to Aperture. A very basic question. I have a photo that I want to scan from the canoscan scanner and import it into the Aperture library. Can I do this without saving it first in the software folder that came with the canoscan? If so, how?

Thank you. I have many old photos that I need to scan to the computer. I understand that once they are on the hard drive I can import them. What software would you use to scan the photos to the computer?

  • How to connect downloaded twain (32 bit) so Win 7 (64bit) can import from Canon MG5220 scanner

New Photoshop CS6 on Win 7 (64 bit) will not import from scanner (Canon MG5220 with all drivers and software up-to-date by Canon). The Twain option for this CS6 was downloaded and the 32 bit plug-in option selected based on info from web. Photoshop gives message about graphics hardware not officially supported (I have IntelR G45/G43 Express chipset). Unckecking in the Use Graphics Processor checkbox in the Performance panel of the Preferences dialog does not help, and the same message comes up every time.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 import from Epson Scanner?

How can I get Photoshop Elements 8 to import from my Epson scanner?  On my previous computer, the scanner just showed up when I selected "Import" under File?  I've spent 2.0 hours with the supposed "tech support" in India and they had no idea.  I've been using Elements 4 on my iMac for years and it worked perfectly.  Help!
I'm starting to learn that I just spent good money for Elements 8 for nothing.  It would appear that Epson has refused to make a TWAIN plugin for Photoshop Elements 8 so it will talk to the scanner and the program seems to be filled with bugs wshen used with Snow Leopard.  Anyone have any answers?

There is a Photoshop Elements forum.

    Can anyone please help me?
I'm running Photoshop CS4 on a Mac Pro Desktop with Snow Leopard. I have a Canon Canoscan Lide 600F scanner. Every time I try to import from my scanner into photoshop, CS4 keeps crashing.
Do I need to delete Photoshop CS4 Preferences? If so where is the file located in Preferences, I can't find it anywhere.
Photoshop CS4 crashes every time I select "Import...Canoscane Lide 600F"

    has scanning ever worked?
most of us here scan using the stand alone software or 3rd party software. The reason the TWAIN.plugin was not installed by default is that many of the scanner manufacturers have not followed Adobes specs and conflict with the TWAIN.plugin.
Also its seems a bit silly to tie up a $1000 application as a scanner UI for $150 scanner. You do realize Photoshop has no scanning ability of its own and relies on the scanner plugin to access the stand alone software that came with the scanner.
If you scan as a stand alone you can still work in Photoshop.

  • Epson all in one printer - compatible with 10.9.5? Cannot import from scanner in Preview

Got a new Epson printer. Set up is fine; wirelessly connected.  Downloaded and updated all drivers. Still cannot import from scanner into Preview. Anyone else? Seems like this was a problem in 2013 as far as I can see from other forum discussions. Any advice?  Scanner works manually so it's the set up, compatibility or...?

What do you mean "import from scanner to Preview?"
Does the scanner actually scan, if so what file format (jpg, pdf, tiff, etc...) are you scanning in? Once you have successfully scanned simply open Preview and open the file. Another method is selecting the scanned file, right click and select Open With and select Preview.

  • Preview's "Import from Scanner" documents -Text Tool cannot be activated.

Any documents created within 10.6 and printed/saved as a pdf file can be opened in Preview and the Text Tool activated allowing selection of text and copy/paste or text highlight actions made.
Using OSX 10.6.7 Preview application using the File > Import from Scanner (Epson V500 scanner), the scanned document cannot activate the Text Tool. Only the Move and Select tools cans be selected, activated and used. It's as if Preview's document scanned image using Format-PDF, the scans appear to be an image scan of the text/document into a PDF file and not using OCR to allow a Text Edit.
I can scan a printed document using Acrobat and my Epson scanner and the text tool within Acrobat or Adobe Reader works fine.
Is this a shortcoming within Preview using Format-PDF that the Text tool cannot be activated or used on Preview scanned documents containing text? If so why is Preview's text tool even offered?
If Text Tool can be used on a Preview scanned document…How ? Please!

After further research I have been able to answer my own question regarding-
"Preview's "Import from Scanner" documents -Text Tool cannot be activated."
In Apples Mac 101 Support article entitled: "Using a scanner (Mac 10.6) last modified on March 15, 2011, states: "Item 6. Click Scan to scan. Note: The scanned items will become JPEG images with 300 dpi"
So there it is…Any item (or printed document) scanned under Preview using the selected Format-PDF will be scanned as a JPEG image.
That' s why the Text Tool cannot be activated, it's not being scanned as text but as an image.
If a document is created within the computer via Pages, Text Edit, Word etc. and saved using the "Print-PDF-Save asPDF" file option, the already digitized text is saved within the PDF file and can then the PDF file can be opened in Preview and the Text Tool will be available for use to copy/paste or highlight.

  • Import from scanner?

How can I import from scanner on Photoshop Element 10. Bought online from App store.

Ugh. Okay, you need to right-click the editor itself (control click if you have your mouse set up for one button), then Show Package Contents>Contents, go to Optional Plug-ins>ImportModules and move TWAIN.plugin from there to the regular Plugins folder>ImportModules.
You will see a message that the folder can't be modified. Click Authenticate and enter your OS X password when asked, and then you can move the plugin.
You have to install TWAIN before you can scan, and you may need to restart your computer after moving it.

  • Problem importing from scanner into Photoshop Elements

I use Photoshop Elements 5 on a PC & am suddenly no loger able to import from my scanner (Canon MP990) & get the message: 'Could not complete the import because of a problem with the acquisition interface'.
If I try scanning directly from the scanner, I get the message: 'Scanner is not available while in use by another application or user' . I may have abandoned a previous scan at preview stage without cancelling, but it doesn't show up anywhere. I don't know whether this is a Photoshop problem or a scanner problem. My troubleshooting skills are rudimentary at best - I have tried disconnecting/connecting the scanner & shutting down the PC - any ideas ?

First of all, are you sure that you want to abandon iphoto for the organizer? You don't want to use both--you will have to choose eventually. If you don't have experience with Organizer on a mac, I would strongly suggest exporting a few photos from iphoto, putting them where you want to keep them and using File>Get Photos>From Files and Folders to create a test catalog  to use for evaluation while you make up your mind.

  • Trying to import from scanner, but only get the wizard and I need the advanced screen....

    Hi,
I just installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 (I was using Elements 6 before).
I am trying to import a photo from my scanner, but am having some trouble.  I need to import from the "advanced" screen I was using before, but now I am only getting the option to import through the wizard.
In Elements 10, when I click import I only have the option to "Frame From Video", or "WIA Support".  When I pick the WIA Support, it takes me to the wizard.
In Elements 6,  when I click import my scanner was actually listed and that is where I went to the advanced preview/scan screen somehow related to my scanner (it said Epson Scan at the top of the window).
How do I get my scanner to be listed in the import menu so that I can get to the Epson preview/scan window?
Thanks so much for any help you can give me.
    Michelle

Oh, I spoke too soon.  I just found out that I had to move the twain file from the optional plug in folder to the regular plug in folder.  Everything is working great now.

  • How do you get Photoshop Elements 9 to import from a scanner?

How do you get Photoshop Elements 9 to import from a scanner?

In Elements 9, you may need to copy the Adobe TWAIN driver, if your scanner requires it, from the optional plug-ins folder to the Import-Export folder in the main plug-ins folder.
You will need to copy the plug-in Twain_32.8ba
    Copy from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9\Optional Plug-Ins\Import-Export
    Copy to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9\Locales\en_US\Plug-Ins\Import-Export.
N.B. on Windows 32 bit systems navigate to Program Files. Replace en_US with your own geographic location if necessary.
On a Mac, go to Applications à Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 à Support Files à Optional Plug- Ins à ImportModules, and move the TWAIN.plugin from there into Applications à Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 à Support Files à Plug-Ins à Import Modules. For the App Store version, go to Applications and Right- click/Control-click Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 Editor and choose Show Package Contents à Contents and move TWAIN.plugin from Optional Plug-ins à ImportModules to Plug-ins à ImportModules. N.B. If you see a message warning that plug-ins can't be modified. Click Authenticate and enter your Mac OS X account password -then move the plug-in.

  • CS3 crashes on import from Mustek scanner

I just installed CS3 on Windows XP and am having trouble with my scanner. When I go to File->import I see the scanner listed. When I click on it Photoshop just quits, no dialog box, no nothing. I rebooted the machine, nothing else is running and still get the problem.
I still have Photoshop 7 installed on my machine and I can import with that which leads me to believe the scanner twain software is working properly. Could having this old version of PS still installed be the problem?
    Thanks,
    J Morris

Thanks again, Dave ... No, I'm not using Mac OS ... I'm running Vista.
Regarding your point #4 ... I didn't change any drivers, just the scanning utility software. For example, the Mustek scanner comes with its own scanning utility. That works fine. Other scanning utilities like
    Scanitto and
FreeKapture also work fine (in Vista).
As previously mentioned, scanning in Adobe CS2 (with the exact same drivers) also worked.
The ONLY change is that I upgraded from CS2 to CS3.
I'm glad for you that your scanner works, but the only help that offers me is to know that scanning SHOULD be possible in CS3. The fact remains that my scanner, along with those belonging to others, do NOT work in CS3 ... And we're all (Windows and/or Mac users) experiencing the same issue.
I can't make it any clearer ... There is something different between CS2 and CS3 that is causing VERY similar issues for many OTHER users. Hence, it would be appreciated if Adobe could examine this issue further and provide a patch/solution to get things working again.

  • Toolbars-no icons for import from scanner or undo

I'm using WIN XP Home Edition. I'm beginning to use PSE 5.0, after upgrading from PSE 2.0. In 2.0 there were useful icons in one of the toolbars at the top of the program: one was undo, and also return (to return from an undo); also, there was an icon for importing from a scanner. I don't find these icons in 5.0, and I have to use menu commands.
Is there any way in 5.0 to create a personalized toolbar with these helpful tools? Or are there toolbars I'm not seeing that can be enabled?
    Thanks, ED.

    Ed,
The short answer to both your questions is No.
This change in PE5 has caused a lot of comment:

  • Importing from scanner in Elements 11

I've just upgraded from Elements 4 to 11 using Mac OS 10.6
Previously, when I wanted to import an image from my Canon 8600F Scanner I went to File,Import,Canoscan 8600 and the Twain driver window appeared. No problem.
Now with 11 this doesn't happen. It doesn't happen with either Editor or Organizer. A search on these pages shows a similar problem with Elements 10. I've carried out this procedure but it doesn't work. Why not? What is the point of this programme if it won't import from a scanner or am I missing something?
Not impressed with the Adobe website at all. Why is it so difficult to access the company for guidance? This could be my last Adobe product.

This document includes information about where to find and how to install the TWAIN component that was previously installed with your application for versions earlier than Photoshop Elements 9.
Important: Do not move plug-ins from previous versions of Photoshop Elements into the Photoshop Elements 11 > Plug-Ins folder, or set the Photoshop Elements 8 (or earlier) > Plug-In folder as the Additional Plug-Ins Folder in Preferences.
       Note:
If your version of Photoshop Elements is 9 or 10, refer to the KB article TWAIN is not installed with Photoshop Elements versions 9 and 10.

      Macintosh
If you would like to have TWAIN support on your Macintosh system, then we strongly recommend that you access your device through Rosetta (PPC) OS. Otherwise, we suggest that you scan your image in first and then separately open the image in Photoshop Elements.
To install the legacy TWAIN plug-in for Macintosh, copy the ImportModules folder from:
    //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Optional Plug-Ins
    into
    //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins

  • Import from scanner give error message "This file already exists in this catalogue"

I can import from the scanner occasionally, but often times get this error message.  " this file already exists in this catalogue" and the scanned picture is discarded.
I see others have had it as well, but no solutions were posted. I'm running Photoshop elements 11 with all current updates.

Thanks for the reply. My Image wasn't in a version set however.   I scanned a new photo which was successsful. I then scanned a second photo different from the first, which failed.  I think possibly the software for my HP scanner is at fault, since it always names the scans as image1.jpg. It doesn't give an option to increment successive scans to a different name which probably caused the problem.
