Import from Canon 5D does not load

I imported directly from my Canon 5D via iPhoto. All the images were clearly visible as they imported, but when the import was done, all thumbnails were just blank white squares. Double-clicking on them resulted in a large, low-res "exclamation" icon in the edit window.
I had created a new library for these images, and when I get the right-click the library file and check the file size, it's 7.8G, the exact total sum of the images/videos I was transferring. So they appear to be on my hard drive, but they're not showing up in iPhoto.
Suggestions?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

@Denyerec, Hi! Just so you are aware this is a user to user forum so the replies you will get here are mainly from users like your self. To have someone understand exactly what your problem is and respond with anything constructive you will need to supply a lot more details.
What system are you useing Mac or PC what OS? What are you attempting to do when you have a problem? Do you get an error message? If so exactly what does it say? Was Lightroom working properly prior to this problem? Is your camera a Nikon D800 also?

  • Canon camcorder does not load to Imovie anymore

Hi, have read through all these discussions and gleaned some good stuff. Did try opening garage band, no go. After a scary session of "repair permissions" (which it corrected a lot) and ran disk dr. Still, it won't work and it was working before I sent the cam in to be fixed. Like dozens of movies, now it won't see it. Tried new firewire. Did try to download Quicktime 7 before realizing my version g4 was 10.2.8. Canceled. Computer store told me to get rid of any qt 7 files, reload the old version (on your site also) but that didn't work either. Have signed up on AOL as the only other thing I've done to my machine. Any other help, or is there something wrong with my camcorder. Did all the stuff in that site as well.

It would be helpful to break up your longer posts into paragraphs to make it easier to deal with a point at a time
Thanks for helping me. I cannot find file vault o my system to turn off. I'm running 10.2.8. Don't know how to do anything to the cpu (am in the process of moving in-who knows if I'll ever see my instruction book again and nothing in help files-helps.
I can't remember if File Vault was in 10.2 or if it came in 10.3. If help in Finder won't locate it in a search it is not there.
I have tried new cable, know of no one except maybe Comp USA to download movie trial to see if the camera is ok. Before sending camera off I did defrag so that should be ok. Apple laughed at me when I said I thought I might too and why wasn't that program included on my g4. They said no one would ever need to?? unless they did a lot of movies?!? Hello, that's why I bought it. And that's basically all I do on it. But I do a lot and a lot of editing. My husband shoots a lot of ground when he forgets to turn the camera off.
You will always get better advice here.
Apple told me to get Norton's disk dr.
    b DON'T!!!
Experienced users here say it causes more problems than it solves. See my previous answer.
How do I really get rid of quicktime 7 completely. I checked modification date on all qt files and thru news one out. Then downloaded from apple the 6.5.1 that I had originally. Maybe I did not do that the best way. Comp USA said that is most likely my culprit. And I had a hard time trying to get the download (7) stopped. Every time I got on line it asked me if I wanted to continue. I kept cancelling, but there it was the next time I got online. I finaly figured out to go to the program manager and stop it.
There is a download from Apple to go back to 6.5.2 from 7.0.2, You should have used that.

  • IPhoto '11 not responding when importing from Canon S90 with videos

    Hi,
I have a recurring problem attempting to import photos/videos with iPhoto '11.  If the memory card only has images, they import properly when using my card reader, but if there are also videos taken with my Canon S90, then the import hangs. Even if I force quit, iPhoto will continue to hang until the computer is rebooted. I also use a Nikon D200 and have never had any issues importing, though that camera does not take video.
Oddly, if I first copy my memory card to my desktop and then import from there (rather than using the card reader) then it will import.
    Any suggestions?

How big are the files? Iphoto has alwys baulked at importing large videos from the Card directly.

  • Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.

Import and Backup is the third (last) button on the toolbar in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) that looks like a star.<br />
Other platforms show the text label, but on Mac you only see toolbar icons.

I'm sorry no-one has answered you yet - I'm afraid I don't know the answer to the question: but I wanted to put into your mind that starting up with AppleWorks at this stage isn't a good idea. The program was 'end-of-lifed' years ago, it won't run on Lion, and some of the document types created in it - Databases in particular - cannot be opened at all by any other program whatever. Word Processing documents can be opened in Pages, and Spreadsheets in Numbers (with some reservations in both cases), but building up a collection of AppleWorks documents at this stage is going to lead to problems later on.
It's difficult to know what to recommend for a PowerPC machine that would still be compatible with modern ones. An older version of Microsoft Office, perhaps, if you can find one which will run on PPC; but most of the modern Word Processors are Intel only. This is something you would need to investigate.

  • ITunes 11 does not load songs onto iPhone 4S from XP notebook

I converted songs on CDs we own to MP3 and loaded them onto my wife's XP notebook. iTunes 11 found them and built a library from them. When I first synchronized my iPhone 4S through iTunes 11 on my Windows 7 computer, iTunes found MP3 music files on my computer, built a library, and uploaded them to my iPhone without any prompts from me. Why can I not get songs in MP3 to load from my wife's computer to her iPhone?

  • When exporting and then importing Apple Mail from one mac to another I get "Some messages could not be imported. Partially imported mailbox will be labeled IMPORT" . That mailbox does not appear.

When exporting and then importing Apple Mail from one mac to another I get "Some messages could not be imported. Partially imported mailbox will be labeled IMPORT" . That mailbox does not appear.
    Any help would be welcome

This is a bug in Mail. The mailbox archiving function does not include attachments, which  gives the error with the import. To workaround this you can create a mailbox in Mail and copy to it all emails you want to export. Then go in Finder to [user]/Library/Mail/Mailboxes en select the created mailbox. Copy this to the public directory of your other mac. Then start Mail on that other mac and import the mailbox from the public directory. Should work now.

  • Importing From Canon Vixia HF M30 to Final Cut Pro

Hey there, I have been trying to import to final cut with some success. Importing From Canon Vixia HF M30 from my sd card.
    I used the easy setup.
    FORMAT HD
USE HDV APPLE INTERMEDIATE CODEC 1080I60
I go to log and transfer select the clips I need and click add to que.
So perfect there are my clips in my bin, I bring them to my timeline and a green line appears above my video, uugggggh. I know this is a rendering issue but why.
Please help does anyone know why this is happening.
This is very frustrating, I have been trying to read the other discussions I didn't see anything on it let alone the info on the net, trying different things just not working for me.
    Thanks Gang

Your camera records AVCHD. Convert to prores 422 or prores 422(LT) on log and transfer and make sure your sequence matchs your footage.

  • Canon 60d does not recognize 430ex II flash. Any suggestions?

Canon 60d does not recognize 430ex II flash. On the menu screen it says that the flash is either of or not compatible.
Any suggestions? Any books or guides recommended?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    A few...
I trust you have verified that the flash fully powers up and you get the red pilot lamp showing it's ready to fire.
On your 60D menu system, if you find the "Flash control" option, you can make sure you haven't set the external speedlite to "disable" -- although I think in that mode you wouldn't get the message you're describing.  i.e. I doubt this is it but you may as well double-check.
A more common reason for failure is that the flash camera can't fully communicate with the flash.  This is usually because of a bad connection in the "foot" of the flash.
The flash needs to be fully seated in the hot-shoe rails.  Make sure the lock level is released, slide the flash fully into the hot-shoe rails until it stops.  Engage the lock on the foot so it's held securely (it will will slide to the right and then click-to-snap (you have to press the tiny button to release the lock lever).  This doesn't *just* snug the foot... it also drops a tiny metal locking pin into a small hole in the hot shoe so that the flash cannot slide out.
At that point, the "foot" of the flash is actually the "ground" connection and it's in contact with the metal rails of the hot-shoe AND all five of the contacts on the foot should be in contact with the camera.
This assumes there's nothing wrong with the flash -- and there could be something wrong with it.   So if you're confident you've fully seated the flash, then remove the flash and inspect the "foot" on the flash.
The metal plate on the foot of the flash should be solid... if you use your fingers and attempt to wiggle it (don't use heavy force... we don't want to break it -- just grasp it firmly and see if it will wiggle at all) it should not move.  If it does move it means that the foot has come loose and is not secured to the flash body (there are four very tiny screws which hold it securely but they can only be accessed from the inside of the flash.
Next... inspect the 5 metal pins on the foot of the flash.  Each of these pins is spring-loaded so that they'll press against the 5 contact points in the camera hot-shoe.  I have occasionally seen a spec of something (e.g. a bit of sand) get wedged in and "jam" a pin so that it it no longer makes contact with the contact on the hot-shoe.  If you view the foot of the flash from an edge-on view, all the pins should spring back out to the same height.  If one of them is recessed lower than the rest... it's jammed.
The 430EX II has a solid reputation as a work-horse flash.  It tends to be among the more reliable flashes on failures are rare.
It's also possible that the problem is in the camera.  An easy test of this is to try another speedlite (if you have one or if you have a friend who has one.)  If it is your speedlite, and it's under warranty, then it's probably a simple remedy by Canon service.
If the flash is not under warranty and the problem is with the hot-shoe connection not being solid, then it's often an easy repair.  If a foot were irreparably damaged, the entire foot can be replaced (the whole thing is a module) and it's an easy and I believe somewhat low-cost repair.
