Import From Final Cut Pro To iMovie

I know it seems backwards, but it is what I want to do. How can I move my FCX 10.0.2 project with it's events to iMovie 10?

No joy on this end.
I'm trying to export an event or the files in the event from iMovie 10.0.6 into FCPX 10.10.1.
Running Yosemite.
Only option to export  in iMovie is file>share> but then all options are grayed out, e.g. theater, email, vimeo, file, etc.
Cannot export as xml (no option found). Cannot drag-drop from iMovie to fcpx either.
Tried to import to FCPX using file>import>media   but cannot find the iMovie event or the files associated with it.
Can you give me a tip on this one?
Thanks..

  • Import from Final Cut Pro not working correctly

I have a very simple project in FCP. (Ver 6) It is a HD clip that is about 5 min long with 7 chapter markers.
I exported the project as an XML file and imported that into Premiere Pro empty project.
I wind up with two assets, a .mov with same name as the .mov in FCP and a sequence with the same named sequence in FCP.
Right clicking on the .mov and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates a new sequence with the .mov on the timeline.
    There are no markers.
Right clicking on the sequence asset and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates another sequence with the same name and the .mov on the timeline.
The markers are inside the .mov and audio tracks, not up on the top ruler line where markers appear when manually adding markers.
The keystrokes to move to markers do not work.
The "Clear all Markers" function is greyed out , like it is when no markers exist.
If a "Dynamic link to Encore is performed, there is no markers in Encore.
If you enter chapter markers manually and look at the project file (an XML file) you will see indexes with the chapter points , durations and names as children named "Markers" with attribute"ObjectID='22'.under "//PremiereData"
Following , in sequential order, are subsequent objects "Markers", ObjectID='23" through "ObjectID=n
However, if you look at the project file after importing a FCP project, this same function occurs, except that it is "Markers" "ObjectID=30 with the indexes and marker data 31 through n (further down in the file). This area is empty when adding the markers manually in Premiere Pro.
FYI , the project file is littered with the word "Marker" and "Markers" throughout the file, only their attributes make any node unique.
I am at 99.9 &% finished with a VB program to create / modify nodes, values and attributes, except that the XML date changes format at the node named "//WorkspaceSettings" so I am not able to edit values to make a file that will not crash when opening.
I would very much like the import from Final Cut Pro to work, or someone explain how to work with the nodes under "//WorkspaceSettings"
    Thank millions for a solution.

It's a 2007 iMac with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  I had been using Final Cut Pro without any problems right until I upgraded to Yosemite.  I'm hoping that upgrading to Yosemite doesn't mean I can't continue using Final Cut Pro - that would be extremely frustrating.

  • Can I move video files from Final Cut Pro to iMovie?

I've used iMovie forever, and I just bought Final Cut Pro.  I uploaded video for a new movie into FCP, but I have an urgent need to get this movie done and don't have time to learn Final Cut Pro to do it.  Can I move my video files from FCP over to iMovie 10.0.6?  Or do I need to reload the raw video to iMovie?

No you will have to import your clips again into iMovie 10.  Projects can only be transferred from iMovie 10 to FCPX and not the other way.

  • Importing from Final Cut Pro-improving rendered quality

Is it possible to render an exported movie in FInal Cut so that it can be immediately written to the DVD rather than be rerendered/ compressed? FC allows you to create MPEG2, the same as iDVD or DVDs generally?
Failing that. my guess is that the export from FC should be with as little compression as possible (Animation, None, others ?). I have been quite disappointed with the end result quality in the burned disc seen on a TV, it doesn't look nearly as good as on the computer monitor. Perhaps this is a function of the limited resolution of TV/ versus the 720x480 DV. But I'm also getting color noise on black backgrounds, elements that I suspect are created by compression.

    Hello,
Rendering and compression are two different beasts. If you are working in the DV format then you want to stay (render) in the DV format. Rendering to another format (HD, Animation, etc...) is not going to give you any more quality than what is already there: DV in this case. Compression takes your current format (DV) and turns it into an MPEG 2 (for most cases) for burning to a DVD. Keep in mind that 1-hour of DV is 13gigs while a DVD can only hold 4.7/4.3 gigs so the material must be compressed. Next, as you have surmised, these codecs were designed for SD Television display which has a much lower resolution than you computer monitor & also only displays one field at a time, alternating between two fields very quickly. The difference between interlacing fields and progressive scan. When editing in FC, you can hook a deck (or your camera) up to the computer and also send a signal via the analog outputs of the camera to a TV (I use an el cheapo 13" Philips but it serves my purposes). This allows you to have an idea of what the material will look like on a TV rather than the computer monitor.
FC will use Compressor to create the MPEG 2 files (compression) for a DVD. iDVD uses the same compression engine but does not give you control over the variables of the compression. However, iDVD cannot use an MPEG 2 file created by Compressor, iDVD wants to do it's own Compression. When exporting out of FC, you can either save the file as a reference file or as a self contained movie (using the same settings you captured with, DV in this case). You can drag either of these files to iDVD for compression/burning. The following is by stock answer on iDVD & quality:
Quality and iDVD- Quality is subjective; what one person finds as good another may not. Quality is also highly dependant upon input. In other words: quality in, quality out; garbage in, garbage out. It is helpful to have a basic understanding of what makes a DVD a DVD. When you record on mini-DV you are recording to an already compressed format. Arguably a very good compressed format but compressed nonetheless. This means information is being tossed at the point you are using the camcorder. iDVD, or any DVD authoring app on any computer, Windoze or Mac, compresses this material even further into the MPEG 2 format for playback via a tabletop DVD player. Now mini-DV has about 30 frames per second (NTSC). MPEG (in a very basic nutshell) takes a picture about twice every 30 frames and uses this as a reference frame and then only records the motion difference between that reference frame and the next time it creates a reference frame. So you go from 30 frames/second to TWO, with motion difference! This is how one hour of DV which is 13 gigs, can be compressed to fit onto one DVD. Two hours would be 26 gigs of DV compressed to one DVD! Hence the general quality difference between one-hour and two. And keep in mind that is compression will show artifacts that may have always been there but you didn’t see until the other 28 frames where tossed out.
Having a basic understanding of what makes a DVD can help you make better DVDs. As example, if you see that your recordings have a lot of motion… that is bad. Remember, when compress to DVD it only records the motion difference so you want to keep the camera steady and use slow controlled movements (pans & zooms). Quick pans or zooms or jerky movements are the bane of any MPEG compression scheme.
That is just one example. There are thousands more. Sometimes, merely recording to a different blank media yields better results. iDVD has a unique way of discovering bad RAM, so if you have added any RAM lately, this may affect your quality. The list goes on. /End my standard reply.
Black also poses difficulties for compression (fades to and from black, black with no motion and so on) since the Compression is looking for motion. The first step in "fixing" this is understanding it. What are your black backgrounds? Can

  • Retrieving imported AVCHD files from Final Cut Pro X

Hi there, does anyone know how to retrieve raw AVCHD clips from Final Cut Pro X, after they have been imported? I shot some footage on my GH2 and it DID import from the camera into FCP X, but it's not running smooth at all. I heard that it's better to convert the files into pro res first, but I wanted to see if it worked. It does work, but not very well. So now I want to find the original video files I imported and convert them into pro res and then import again. Anyone had experience with this?

I think it all comes back to work flow. The whole reason I have opted to convert the original files to pro res is because it is choppy in the timeline when I'm editing. It seems it's true that FCP X really prefers to work with 'optimized media'...or Pro Res instead of reformatted versions of AVCHD. I would like to work with this original format, mainl because the footage isn't as compressed and hasn't lost a generation...and look absolutely pure and gorgeous in high bit rate from my GH2, however, what choice do I have but to convert to Pro Res if I am unable to edit smoothly? I think Ian had the right idea when he said to compare the footage of both, but again, if I can't even edit in AVCHD then what's the point? I think Apple needs to rectify this in the next update as I'm sure there are so many users out there who would prefer editing in this original format. Is there a noticeable loss of quality, that's what I am curious about.

  • Burning a video from Final Cut Pro using iDVD

When I export and save my video from Final Cut Pro to a folder (export->Using Quick Time Conversion). When I do that there are several different videos that are saved in my folder (ie-Kelly Michelle; Kelly Michelle-av1; Kelly Michelle-av2; Kelly Michelle-av3; Kelly Michelle-av4; Kelly Michelle-av5).
iDVD is the program I need to use, I do not have any other programs. Therefore, I import the file to iDVD and once everything is ready in iDVD I try to burn the dvd. However, in the last stages of burning a window pops up and says that "an error was found during the burning process". It does not tell me what kind of an error it is. Does anyone have any advice or a step by step process that I need to do in order to burn my dvd successfully.

The simplest way to prepare a video for iDVD is to *Export/Quicktime Movie* (NOT Using Quicktime Conversion), select Current Settings, Audio and Video and, depending on your needs, other 2 options:
o- +Make Movie Self-Contained+ is preferred to have an independent movie (you can move the exported file, you can continue editing your FCP project before burning the exported version, etc.) but requires more disk space and more time for exporting.
o- +Chapter Markers+ (NOT All Chapters) must be selected if you created Chapter Markers in FCP (markers in the timeline, not the clip, and clicked the Add Chapter Marker button in the marker dialog).
The resulting .mov file (whether self-contained or reference) may be easily imported to iDVD.

  • What compression to use when Exporting HD video from final cut pro PAL setting

    Hi there
I'm trying to export my HD video from Final cut Pro so that I can edit it in DVD studio Pro. I initially exported it on H.264 setting however it then gives me the message 'NTSC assets cannot be imported into PAL projects' It was edited with PAL setting so I think it must be the conversion but i'm not sure which option to use.....been really struggling to get the 1 hour footage under 4.5gb without losing too much quality...
    Any advice greatly appreciated!
    thanks

    Just to add two suggestions.
    1) Consider putting your four movies on two disks.
    2) Bring your movies into Compressor and duplicate the stock DVD setting. In the Encoding pane of the Inspector, select a CBR and dial it back to around 6.2 to 6.5 Mbs. In Preview mark a small section and submit; you'll get 2 elementary streams, with m2v and AC3 extensions. Bring that into DVDSP and evaluate results. Adjust as necessary. (This is to avoid waiting out very long encodes and then having to start again from scratch if you get disappointing results.)

  • Can files be exported from Final Cut Pro X trial?

Can files be exported from Final Cut Pro X trial?

It doesn't seem to work on mine, when I go to command: the export button is in grey, whereas all the others (import; customize) are black and can be actionned. Is this a restriction in the trial version or is there a way to activate export?
    Thanks

  • Video quality changes when imported into Final Cut Pro

I have video files that I have imported from an external hard drive that were transferred from an HD camera. When viewing the footage directly from the hard drive, the quality is great. Once imported into Final Cut Pro, however, there are small "flares" (don't know how else to describe them) that appear for split seconds across the screen. The best way to describe it is if you are watching a television that has an antenna, there will be static or interferance on the image. This is barely noticable but I can't determine what would cause the decline in quality. My video settings are set to DV NTSC 48 kHz and wonder if this is the problem or if anyone knows of something else that I should change prior to importing.

Thank you so much for your help! I am technically challenged and STRUGGLING to say the least.
Some files are definitely H.264 and I can convert them to ProRes. I also have clips that are
    DVCPRO HD 1080p25, 1,440 x 1,080 (1,888 x 1,062)
Linear PCM, 16 bit big-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
    Current Size: 1,440 × 810 pixels
Will I need to do anything to those as well?
Here is the question I'm afraid to ask because I think I know the answer already. Can I simply replace the clips in my sequence with the newly compressed ProRes files or do I have to change all of the video and sequence settings and then start all over?

  • MP4 (MPEG-4 MOVIE) FILE IMPORT TO FINAL CUT PRO X

I have some MP4 files I am unable to import into Final Cut Pro X from a Hard Drive.  1920x1080, Codecs: MPEG-4 Video, Linear PCM, Audio Channels: 2 Total Bit Rate: 35,253 ...
Any suggestions as to what steps I need to take to be able to import them into Final Cut Pro X ???

Okay, I fugured it out  ... the footage I was provided was from a Sony XDCAM source  ...  the link below gave the information needed  ...
Final Cut Pro X: Importing Sony XDCAM media     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4724
Just follow the instructions ...  the sony documentation for the two downloads indicated that this would not work for FCP X ...  but it did work fine ...

  • Import Failure-- Final Cut Pro XML

I am editing a short film with my school imacs and I want to bring that project home to add my music and sound effects in premiere pro CS6. I Exported an XML file from Final cut pro 6 with standard settings. I copied the xml file to a flash drive and brought home to my windows 7 PC with Adobe Premeire Pro CS6 installed. When Import the XML file from my flash drive i get the error-- This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be asociated with this file type. I checked the codec of the XML and  it is <codecname>Apple ProRes 422</codecname>. Any help?

When you reimport the exported project XML to FCP, do you get the full project or just the single bin/sequence? If you get the full project then it sounds like you need Premiere help, not FCP help ... have you tried asking on the Adobe forums? If you only get the single bin/sequence then it seems you might have inadvertently selected those prior to creating the project export. Try making sure that your FCP Browser window is active and that you have not selected anything within that window prior to using the File > Export > XML command. If that still causes issue then you might try using an earlier FCP XML version.
    Hope it helps

  • Mini-Dvi to Video out from Final Cut Pro working

Thanx Everybody for posting reply for my post regarding running video out to external TV from Final Cut Pro in MacBook.
    It's working fine.

@ Studio X : The files were originally created with Final Cut Pro, rendered out to QuickTime, then are being played back with Final Cut Pro. The file that has the most noticable studdering is a 60-minute timeline sequence in Final Cut. All files are being stored and played back from the Mac Mini's internal hard drive. Everything was originally shot on DV and formatted for a 4:3 aspect ratio.
@ Shane Ross : Are there any settings in the MacOS or FCP where I can improve the HDMI video signal? Or do you know of / have any experience with Firewire to HDMI converters? Unfortunately, my new signal path relies on HDMI from the video playback.
My current setup uses the Firewire output, which is then converted to composite video & analog audio using a pair of ageing DV tape decks. That setup is becoming troublesome due to age.

  • When sending job from Final Cut Pro to Compressor using local QCluster

When sending job from Final Cut Pro to Compressor by way of Share and using the local QCluster, the audio renders, but the video errors out saying something along the lines of Can not locate file.
If I use 'This Computer' it works fine.
    What gives?
Fresh install of OS and FCS.
    Thanks!

I'm just learning the intricacies of Compressor and Qmaster myself, but I have learned that when you use Qmaster you can not share directly from FCP. You must export a Quicktime movie (reference movie seems to be fine) and input that to Compressor. This is only an issue when using Qmaster, as you've seen.

  • Why does Compressor take so long to export a 10 minute video clip from Final Cut Pro?

I've been trying export a 10 minute clip from Final Cut Pro. so it can be used with DVD Studio Pro and burned. However, the rendering process has taken 12 hours! The clip I'm exporting has minimal effects, no music, and is in 1080i 30fps. Does anyone know what's going on or what I can do to speed up the process?

First: How are you exporting? Are you using the Share feature or  Send to Compressor?
Second: You haven't said anything about your system configuration or really very much about your movie. What is its format… is it really 30fps or 29.97? Whatever it is, are the project settings identical to the clip properties, or were they changed?
