Hi All,
My powerbook got stolen and I have bought a macbook pro to replace it. I would like to import the songs on my ipod nano into itunes, how do I do this?

Hello, I travelled to the other side of the world with an IPOD 30GB. Now I want to transfer the music from the IPOD to a hard drive and I cannot find a way to do so.
HELP. Some of the music is to advanced for a child and the rest is in the father's era. I want to save it so the father can have access to it on the HD, add the child's playlist and allow her to enjoy her gift. I know how to make the smart playlist and then only chooose those to be synchronized. However, I do not know how to synchronize in the reverse.

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.

Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player. Also free is SharePod.

How can I save my music from iPod to a new computer?

Probably this problem got solved already in the past but I could not find help till now. I still use my iPod 30gb Classic from 2005 but the computer with which I made the syncs is broken and I got myself a new one. How it was originally designed by Apple is you store your music in iTunes on a Mac or a PC. you back up your computer. you add to your library through the computer. you then sync to ipod classic. it was never intended to move music back the other way unless you purchased the music from iTunes store.
If your compuetr breaks you restore iTunes library from computer backup.
in many cases music is reduced in size and quality to 128kbps on sync so backwards sync would lose library quality.
finally, it avoids people illegally sharing music, or stealing music from lost or stolen ipods.
to backwards sync you will need to either get into the risky business of third party software, or find a PC running Linux and Rhythmbox and ask again. I probably said too much.

Getting my music from ipod to a different computer

Okay, I'm going to college (woo hoo) and I'm getting a laptop, but I have all of my music stored on our family computer and in my iPod. Is there any way to get the music from my iPod to my new computer without reloading alllllll of my CD's and retyping in the info for 2800 songs?!

For purchased songs you can plug the iPod into you new computer and use the "File > Transfer Purchases from iPod" feature in iTunes. For music not purchased from the iTunes store you will need a third party program to help. There are a few of them out there, and they are easy to find on Google.

I have a 6GB iPod and lost my HD last week. I have over 800 songs and want to know if there is anyway to import from my mini to itunes. I now plan on selling the mini for a 2 GB Nano and want to delete the songs off the mini and copy to my new Nano. What's up, is this possible??

In order to copy any songs from the iPod to computer, your iPod needs to be recognized when you connect it. This may not be possible as you "lost" the hd.

I somehow recently managed towipe out my libruary in i tunes ( some 500 tunes). I still have them in my ipod. can I tansfer the music from my ipod to the itunes libruary on my computer. I have searched the computer for the songs but they can not be found.

I just upgraded from an old Pentium computer to a new Dell XPS 18 running Windows 8.1. Downloaded latest version of iTunes to the new computer, then successfully transferred library content from the old computer to the new one via the external hard drive method. All material -- iTunes purchases, music ripped from CDs, a movie, even MP3 files purchased long ago from another source -- transferred successfully; everything plays on the new computer just fine.
My problem is that the "old" playlists didn't transfer over. After connecting my iPod Touch to the new computer, I verified that the iPod has the latest version of iOS, and its content (including the old/original playlists) displays in the window on the left-hand side of the iTunes screen. The really frustrating thing is that I can find no way to transfer the old playlists to my new iTunes library. I've tried dragging and dropping, selecting and pasting, and exploration of all the options menus, but no luck. Creating a new playlist in the new library and then clicking on the "Add To" button opens up a window into which to drop dragged songs/folders from the new library listing, but simultaneously closes the left-hand display window with all of my iPod's current playlists depicted.
I appear successfully to have backed up my iPod to the new computer, but all the sync menu options are grayed out. When I tried clicking on the Sync button, I got a warning that syncing to the new library would erase everything from the old library -- presumably obliterating my playlists with it. I have about a dozen different playlists, some of them with several hundred songs, drawn from a library of a few thousand individual items. Is there some means of importing/transferring the old playlists to the new computer/library, so that I don't manually have to drag and drop hundreds and hundreds of songs into a new set of playlists? Am I overlooking something really obvious or simple? Can I safely turn on Home Sharing and then import or paste the old playlists into the new computer's library. I don't think I'm too much of a Luddite, but given the size of my library I'm very leery of turning on Home Sharing (to the old Pentium computer) after I've successfully transferred over many GBs of content from the old machine to the new.

Transferring entire music library from ipod to second authorized computer

I am writing this for my wife. She has windows machines. It seems that she can only transfer purchased songs from her ipod, not songs that she burned to her ipod from cds she owns. How can one do this? She already authorized the second computer. She has a color screen ipod with 30 gb drive.

The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. so the problem is that my computer got broken and all my music went down with that also. Now i want to put the music on my ipod to my new computer so how do I do it? Or can I even do it? I hope so.

Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. How do I get songs/photos from ipod to a new computer ???

I have a ipod video that is loaded with all my songs and photos. My computer died and I had to buy a new one( OS = XP Home ). How do I transfer all my songs and photos from my ipod to my new computer ? Or do I have to load all of my cd's over again ? I have tried on my own and cant figure it out and I dont want to risk loosing everything off of my ipod.

Make sure that autosync is disabled in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, set up your account, connect your iPod and right click on it in the device list. Choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought music from iTunes to your new iTunes library.
If you want to use this computer to sync your device, right lick again in the device list and choose "backup"
This will perform a manual backup without the sync process. Set up at least one contact and event on your computer, to be able to merge data after your device got erased during the first sync.
Use the manual backup to restore your data and settings again.

Moving iTunes Library from iPod mini to new computer (old hard drive dead)

Hi all, I own a 2nd gen (I believe) iPod mini with all of my music from my iTunes library on it. Last weekend, my computer began freezing/crashing while loading my desktop, and a diagnostic confirmed that the read/write head on my hard drive was bad. I don't currently have the spare cash to send it away to a recovery lab, so I am starting from scratch with a new computer I will be ordering today.
My question is this--is it going to be possible to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer? Many of the songs on my iPod are from other sources, during the years that I was not using iTunes, and from what I have read I will only be able to transfer my purchased music. I know there is a way to make my iPod into a hard drive in order to transfer the music to my new computer, but as I said, I cannot even boot up my old machine, and thus cannot access my iTunes library on my HD.
