Import from Kodak V550 .mov

Impressed with several features in iMovie 08, but very annoyed that I can no longer import my .mov files from my Kodak V550.
I used to just pop them into iMovie 06 HD no prob. Now, it's looking like I'll need to convert each and every file that I shoot with this camera.
Does anyone know a shorter and painless work around?
I can however import .mov files from a Panasonic Lumix direct into iMovie 08, just not the Kodak.

Excellent, answer was exactly what I was looking for.
Since my camera is now 3 years old, I've been looking for another one.
Now I know I need to look for one that records video in iMovie 08 format.
ie: MPEG4/AAC
Thanks a bunch

  • Problems with Import from Kodak Zi-8

    Hello,
I do not manage to import the movies I shot with my Kodak Zi-8 videocamera on Final Cut Express (version 4.0.1).
I can play these normally on Quick Time and can import them without any problem on I-Movie, but not on FCE.
    Anyone can help?

Media from this camera will not work in FCE. It needs to be converted. You can use MPEG Streamclip to do this. I can't tell you how to convert it without knowing the exact specs of what you shot. Open a clip in the QT player and report what it says in the movie inspector.

  • Stopped importing from Kodak

    Hey,
I have been using iPhoto 9 with my Kodak Z1275 for the last year without problem. However I am trying to get some recent photos from my camera and iPhoto cannot get them.
When I connect my camera iPhoto loads as usual and after a time my camera is mounted. It begins to load the photos then it stops. After a while the white dotted squares appear but it wont go any further to actually display the pictures. If I try to import them anyway it says that it can't and they in the wrong format.
I have also tried to use Image Capture but that says the same. It took three attempts to scan the camera as it kept freezing up before it found all the images but most of them are "not in the right format" and it won't import them either.
The only change I can think of that has caused this problem is updating my OS to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 but I can't be sure.
I scanned for software updates and it did have one for iPhoto but it was a compatibility update for Canon cameras and nothing for mine.
Can anyone tell me if this really is the cause or think of any way for me to resolve this issue? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
This may be caused by directory damage on the Camera Card. Try recover the photos using a recover utility like MediaRecover. Then reformat the card with your camera.

  • How to import from Kodak zi8

I have a new Kodak zi8 video camera (flip variety). When I plug it into my computer to download, iphoto recognizes the camera, but imovie does not. Do I have to download into iphoto first, or am I missing something? I thought imovie would recognize the video camera. I am a novice in the movie department. Thanks for your help!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
It's important to select a sequence preset that match your camcorder format, like DV PAL. Use easy setup menu to select the right preset.

  • IPhoto won't import from Kodak EasyShare C300

How do I find out if my new Kodak EasyShare C300 is compatible with iPhoto? If so, how do I get the program to recognize the pictures? In the left margin, the program lists the camera, so it seems to recognize it. When there are pictures on the camera and iPhoto 5 opens, the message says nothing to import. Help! I can use the Kodak software, but I'd prefer iPhoto.
    Al

Since I don't want all my photos in iPhoto, I use Apple's Image Capture to do an initial screen on the images before uploading to the computer. If you want to try it as a workaround for your problem, open it in the Applications folder and set your Preferences to always open when a camera is attached (also opens when you put the card/card reader into a USB slot).
You can import/duplicate the photos in iPhoto if you want a backup, or you can "import" a link to the originals in their original folder.

  • TS4455 Why IMovie no longer shows all movie clips from movies from Kodak camera

I am on an IMac 10.6.8   2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo with 3 gb memory
    I am using IMovie 11  (9.0.4)
My camera is a Kodak Playsport shooting hd video
On all of over 300 videos I have shot previously IMovie worked perfectly.
On the last 3 movies imported from the camera, I movie loads the preview and I can drag it into the stage but instead of opening up and showing all of the clips, it remains a single image exactly as it displays in the playlist
Nothing I click opens the frames.  Thus the only want to edit is to open the file into the fine editing frame
But this is not as easy as it was before where I could see the clip and make the edits right there on the stage.
What has changed?   What am I doing wrong?

    Hello awebstore,

  • How do I move a graphic-box in a document I imported from AppleWorks?

I imported a book which I wrote in AppleWorks without problems into Pages '08. On one page of this book I had created a box, using the graphics tool, and moved it to the back so I could read the text inside it. It is now in the Pages '08 version of my book, but because of editing and additional writing which I've done, it appears on page 295, not 297 where it belongs. In AppleWorks I could simply select it and drag it into place. In Pages '08 I can't figure out how to select it. It's just there.
    Help desperately needed.

Here is an AppleScript which, in a single call will
    • extract the embedded picture files
    • strip the annoying description of the 'background' pictures from the Index.xml file.
So, we may open the Pages document, it will be free of the oddity and the picture files are available in the folder "importés_sétropmi" on the desktop.
    --(SCRIPT recupPictures]
Save the script as an Application (Bundle Application if you want to use it on a MacIntel)
    Store it on the Desktop.
Drag and drop the icon of a Pages document imported from AppleWorks on the script's icon.
The script will move the embedded picture files in a folder named "importés_sétropmi" on the desktop.
Then it will strip the Index.xml file from the block of datas describing the embedded pictures.

  • I have MTS files imported from a Canon HD cam. They import into I movie and I see them in the Finder folders and they preview fine. I have a new project and some of the clips are freezing and some audio is now gone? Do i need a file converter and convert

I have MTS video files that import from a Canon Vixia HF S20 HD camera. I imported into I Movie. They converted into MOV files and I see them in the movies folder in finder. They view fine and run through the events folder in Finder. In I Movie, I created a new project and used a "Theme". The project worked fine at first but then some clips started to freeze and some lost audio. The effected clips are the same in the project library and in the event library, meaning they are froze in both places. As I said when i view through finder the MOV files preview and work fine.  Is this inherent to MTS files using in I movie. SHould i consider using a file converter to convert to MOV files prior to importing into I movie.
I found on Apple support site info that states the MTS files can only be imported through the camera. I am developing my back up procedures and now I am faced with backing up in the original MTS files but not being able to reload if necessary into I movie. Any suggestions?

I'd like to add that after I import these clips without thumbnails, iMovie does give me an error and say that they could not be imported. No explanation as to why, though. Again, they play fine on my camera.

  • Problem with movies imported from iPad3

Whenever I import footage into imovie, the footage looks good. When I put that footage into a project it stutters.
It doesnt matter if I specify 24fps or 30fps, the movie judders and stutters.
I do not have this problem with movie footage imported from any other device.
    Any ideas?

  • Slow movie when imported from HDR HC3 to iMovie

When I import from my Sony camera to iMovie I get a message 'Downloading at 1/8th speed'. When I then play back the movie through iMovie the sound and video play slowly....like a 45rpm record played at 33rpm...for those who remember what records are! Could it be my processor speed? I run a PowerBook G4.
    Thanks.

    Hi Tumnus,
    Welcome to the Apple Forums.
Yes it could very likely be your processor speed or how much RAM you have. The baseline for HD importing, editing and exporting is 1GH and 512MB RAM. Also there are other factors involved like is the camera fully supported in iMovie (altho I have a Sony HDR-HC1E and it imports fine).
It might be time to update to a new Mac with a faster processor and some more RAM (1GB is recommended)
    Hope this helps.

  • Is there an easy way to use MOVE when importing from card reader?

In Lightroom 1, I would hit File -> Import From Disk which would allow me to move photos from my card reader to the hard drive.
In Lightroom 3, the only option is the normal import dialog and in order to get the "Move" option I have to select "other source" and then scroll down the list to select the card reader in order to get the "Move" option.  It's a pain to do it every time.  (not to mention my wife will never do it and just use "copy").
So my question is, "Is there a way to get the Move option to be available by default on my card reader?"
It's been my workflow since 2004 to have the images deleted directly after I copy them off the memory card using Adobe software (Photoshop Album 2.0, Photoshop Elements 4, Lightroom 1.0).  I'm really hoping there is an easy way to accomplish this in Lightroom 3. Otherwise I will be pretty disappointed.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    brianbjork wrote:
The reason I like the move command so much is that I know when photos are on my memory cards that the are not on my computer.
LR defaults to not importing suspected duplicates.  so if there are still files on the card, they will be grayed out. That's how you can know.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    brianbjork wrote:
What do you all use in your work flow to delete the pictures left on your memory cards after they are copied?
I have a shell file that removes the files from the card and ejects the disk.  I keep it in my dock for easy access.
Others will tell yiou, though, to format in camera. Which is a good idea! I just like to keep my cards empty and ready.

  • Import from i-movie???

    All,
Erm, silly question again (as promised in my previous question)...
Is it possible to import from FCP5 and i-movie project? Or even export from i-movie to FCP5?
I've gone and captured a whole loada footgae into i-movie, which I now need to use in FCP. I really do not fancy logging and capturing it all again - mainly because I'm gonna be a little over due on delivery on this project!
    Thanks
    Alps

I'm going to stick my neck once again on this topic. But before I begin let me please pay all due respect to those contributors who's knowledge, wisdom and prolific attendance on these boards far exceed my own.
And I will make every effort not to make any spelling errors.
I've been trying for a year now to get a clear and elaborated answer for two simple questions:
01 - If I use footage captured in iMovie will the IMAGE quality be compromised?
02 - Why does Apple use different (incompatible?) file formats for these two programs?
My most recent attempt at extracting this very elusive information was on this thread.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1339024&#1339024
Now, I do understand the advantages of using the "correct" method of capturing footage and I use it when the project calls for it. But as I've expressed before I also appreciate the stability and intuitive way that iMove captures footage. For many small Arty type projects iMovie allows for a quick, stable and intuitive way to capture footage. Some might say that iMovie thinks like an artist while FCP thinks like a technician.
It's CLIP based architecture allow for immediate visual reference to the work and also prevents the ubiquitous audio drift / drop out problem with FCP.
I also understand the limitations of iMove. That's why I've spent thousands of dollars on and many many hours using FCP. The difference in functionality between the two is not a debate.
All that said, I'd like to suggest that unless someone can offer an informed answer to question #01, then the original poster should feel free continuing to work with his iMove footage. You will have to render the audio which takes very little time (about 8 seconds for 1 minute of footage).
The simplest thing to do is:
    - Navigate to the media files captured in iMovie.
    - Open the browser in FCP.
    - Drag the files directly into the browser in FCP.
You can also do some rough edits in iMove and then do a Quicktime EXPORT of that edit which you can then open in FCP.
I know my suggestions will undoubtedly cause some veins to burst in the heads of the most learned on these boards but I see no reason to discredit this idea.

  • Movies re-imported from external drive after crash will not sync to iPod

A while back my hard drive crashed. I had backed up all my iTunes music and movies to an external drive, so I re-imported them to the repaired hard drive after it was installed. All of the music (purchased and ripped) transferred fine, but the movies I had purchased from iTunes will not sync back to my iPod. I've tried selecting them individually under the Movies tab in the "My iPod" screen within iTunes and then syncing, but nothing happens. I've tried re-importing from iTunes and doing the same thing, but to no avail. Help!

while the iPod is connected to itunes, control-click on its name in the source list on the left. click Reset Warnings. try another sync with the movies you want selected. you should get a warning that says either something like this: "There is not enough room on the iPod to sync all selected material. please remove some items." or something like this: "the format of the videos is not supported by the iPod" if it says the first one, do option 1. if it is the second one, do option 2. if it is neither of them, i don't have any ideas.
1.The iPod doesn't have enough space on it to fit all of the video. you have to take someting off the ipod to put anything more on.
    2. you need to select the movies in iTunes, then go to the advanced menu and click Create iPod/iPhone Version, or Convert for iPod or iPhone, whichever appears. that will make a copy of the videos in a format that the ipod can read. you can remove the original copy from your library. you can keep the files if you want. now just select the new ones and sync them. everything should work.

I cannot import a Quicktime file (.mov) which I generated from a slide show out of iPhoto8 in iMovie8 (filename is grey); what did I wrong?

iMovie 08 will only import files that contain codecs that it can edit. It will generally import audio and video codecs that iPhoto generates. However, if your iPhoto slideshow contains a manual advance track, iMovie cannot edit this and therefore will not import. In iPhoto, check to see if you can do a timed advance rather than a manual advance. Then it should import.
