Import from Leica D-Lux 109

I can't transfer my RAW files to Lightroom from my Leica D-Lux 109. What can I do? LR 5.7 doesn't import the RWL files on my Mac with OS X 10 Yosemite, only from HD

What is the complete exact word-for-word verbatim error message?

It's just not the type of information Apple gives out. You can go  to Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback to let them know you want his camera included. But when that will happen is anyone's guess.
One strategy you can use for the time being is to shoot RAW + JPG (assuming the camera has this mode) and import both as a RAW+JPG pair making the JPG the master. Then when the RAW support comes out you can switch and make the RAW the master and process the file.
There are other ways to deal with this until the camera is supported. Post back for more info.

  • Importing Raw and Jpeg from Leica D-Lux 4

    Hi All,
If Apple ever address the D-Lux 4 issue then I will be a happy man. However, for the meantime i need to find a work around solution for importing my images into Aperture. I shoot Dynamic B&W Jpeg with Raw back-up for archive and (hopefully) later editing. The issue I have at the moment is that Aperture is only showing the preview of the Raw file and not the Jpeg aswell, thus I have to drag the images from the card as a batch of jpegs and then again a batch of Raw files separately into the project that I have created. Does anyone know the reason for this and if there is a more elegant solution?
    Thanks
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
I don't have an answer for you except to say I am a fellow sufferer...same problem here.
The D-LUX 4 has become my personal favorite camera, and is with me at all times. I am really sad that Aperture has not supported this great tool. I use it more than any of my pro cameras, because it is convenient, and great quality.
I use it professionally to scout shooting locations, and in a 24 page brochure that we did last month 2 of the images came from the D-LUX 4....amazing given the rest of the 48 images came from Nikon D3s or my P45+ back on a Hasselblad.
Apple please support the Leica D-LUX 4...it seem everyone else is, even shareware.

  • Why does Aperture 3,not process RAW files from Leica D-Lux 5 ?

             Hello:
The purchase of my Leica D-Lux 5 came with LR 3. All raw files can be processed in that Application.However.I also have Aperture 3 and it will not process RAW files from the D-Lux 5.I hope that Apple soon will address this inconvenience.Has anyone els had the same problem?
Hoping for a solution; Thanks John Basso.  Mac OS X 10.6.7

I can tell you that it does process them from Panasonic LX5's - I have one. The files are probably very similar with slightly different processing metadata and a different tag. It is possible to change the tag in the RAW file prior to import that "fools" aperture into thinking that the RAW is the same as a camera that is supported. I have done this with other cameras where the RAW files were really the same but the camera was not yet "officially supported" at the time I bought it.
I kinda remember doing it to the EP-2 or was it the EPL-1? Don't remember but there are plenty of tools that will allow this - google is your friend.
Just make sure that your install of Ap3/OS X DOES actually have support for the LX5... Might work but I have not tried it.

  • File handling in LightR 2.6RC importing from Leica M9

    Please help - there is something going on here I don´t understand;
    1. I shoot compressed DNG in my Leica - get lovely images!
    2. I import to Lightroom 2.6 RC as DNGs via USB cable from the camera/device - usb port set in PTP protocol mode (have not tried "mass storage" yet)..
    3. The dng file sizes in Lightroom as viewed in Library is only 8-10 MB (dimension 5212x3468). The file sizes on the SD card is 17,89 MB if I look at the files via a card reader (this is according to spec.). Do Lightroom compress the files?
    4. I ask Ligtroom to back up the image files into a separate catalogue. However - here the files are in TIF, size 17,89 MB BUT dimension only 320x216???? Not possible to use.
    Can anyone explain??
    Thanks
    /Anders
BTW - thanks for an excellent form with a lot of help!!

In LR terminology, a "catalog" is a LR database of settings and locations of photos.  It is not a subfolder of My Pictures that contains photos, but I think I know what you were trying to say.
Everything seems normal about what is happening except the files in the backup folder are TIFs instead of DNGs.  If your camera is producing DNGs then the files that get backed up should be DNGs.  Can a Leica produce either DNGs or TIFs?  Some of the higher-end Canon's create their RAWs with a TIF extension, but they are still just RAW-type files.
I think something may be interfering with the import when you do Import from Device directly from the camera.
In an effort to isolate the source of the strange behavior, as others have suggested, if possible, take the card out of the camera, put it in a card-reader and use Import from Device on that.
Also look at the folder of files on the card when it's in the card-reader and see if those files are TIFs or DNGs.
You might just rename one of the TIFs in the backup folder to .DNG and see if things can open it normally.  Maybe Win7 or some other application is doing something to the files because they are under My Pictures and it is a watched folder?  You might try moving the backup folder somewhere else out from under My Pictures.
Did this behavior occur with LR 2.5 and earlier, or is this the first version of LR that you've tried with the camera?
What happens when you use the released version of LR 2.6 not the release candidate, or is that was you are using, despite the subject of the thread?

  • Import from Leica M8 - Some images are duplicated in the import dialogue

    Hello,
I bought Aperture 2 a few weeks ago and am using the most recent version to import images directly from my Leica M8. For reference, I am using a MacBook Air (SSD) with the Aperture Library on an external SATA USB drive (it's too big for my little SSD drive) which is connected to the MacBook Air using a very small Belkin USB HUB (not connected to the mains). The M8 is also connected to the MacBook Air using this HUB.
The majority of the time, when I try to import the images the first few lines of images (at least the first 10 or 20) are displayed in the import dialogue correctly, however, as I scroll down through the images they suddenly start to be duplicated. The duplicate images are exactly the same in all aspects (format, exif info, filename, filetype, etc) except that they have (1) appended to the filename. I only shoot RAW (DNG format) and do not shoot RAW+JPG, so it is not a second jpg image. As soon as this happens with one image, it happens with all following images. Quitting, restarting, etc does not seem to have an effect on this although I have not tried extensively.
It is also worth noting that very occasionally Aperture does see any images on the camera and the only way to get it to see them is to re-boot the Mac and it takes ages to shut down when I do this (spinning wheel in the middle of the screen before it re-starts.
If I remove the SD card from the camera and use it in an SD card reader it imports perfectly, I also do not believe it to be a camera problem as I had the same problem with a different Leica M8 that had to be returned due to a fault. (One or two members of a Leica forum have also reported this problem on occasion and one user reported this consistently when using iPhoto).
Does anyone have any suggestions for my problem?
    Thanks,
    Phillip

    Phillip,
I have a very similar setup to yours:
    Apple MacBook Air SSD
External USB 2.0 SATA hard drive
    (2) Leica M8 cameras
I used this system, on the road, over the course of the past month, on an extensive project in which I shot and imported over 14,000 RAW picture files. Like you, I only shoot RAW, no JPEG, no RAW+JPEG.
Only once did I notice a duplication in files from a card I imported. However, I cannot say whether it was a problem in the system or human error--I worked round the clock and got little sleep, so it is possible that I may have imported twice on one occasion. However, I know this is not what you are experiencing.
One thing that seems to be different, is our workflow. I make it a policy to never attach a camera directly to the computer to transfers files, but instead, to always use a reliable card reader. I also make it a policy to reformat each card in the camera after every successful transfers so it will be primed and ready for next use. I never reformat a card through the computer and never delete files individually.
Here’s my specific workflow with the setup listed above:
1.) Shoot pictures in RAW (.DNG) format.
2.) Transfer RAW files, by way of a USB High-Speed 2.0 card reader onto internal SSD hard drive and into a designated temporary hold folder.
3.) Replace card reader with external 320GB USB High-Speed 2.0 hard drive.
4.) Import RAW files off internal SSD into Aperture Library which resides on external hard drive.
5.) Tag, review and confirm pictures with inside Aperture.
6.) Take same memory card and transfer same pictures to a 250GB HyperDrive Colorspace for safety backup.
7.) Delete files from designated temporary hold folder on internal SSD to free space up for next session of transfers.
8.) Reformat memory card in camera.
Once I return back to home base, I transfer my Aperture Project files into my Aperture Library on my Apple Xserve RAID setup.
It’s a little cumbersome with the MacBook Air SSD in having an extra step involved in moving files around and swopping out a card reader for a external hard drive but it has served my needs and reduced travel load in weight and size a bit.
I will look out for any future occurrences of duplicate imports and report them here. Additionally, feel free to contact me here, or through the L•Camera Forum, concerning any other issues with our similar setups.

  • Leica D-Lux 3 RAWs

Unfortunately trying to import RAW files from Leica D-Lux 3 result in a "Unsupported Image Format"...
    Any other noted this?

I found these detailed instructions on how to 'dupe' Aperture to recognising the leica Dlux 3 RAW files (pasted below along with the link to the site) . It was on on MacOShints.com. ... Has anyone done this and how well does it work ?
I havent tried it yet but Iimagin an alternative (maybe less risky) way to get around it is to convert the RAW files to DNG's using Adobe DNG converter once imported from the camera, and then import into Aperture. I'm about to try this - before messing around with the Aperture settings !
This could be further enhances by using the Automator Robot to automatically convert and delete old files on import from CD card. If anyone has already done this, could they possibly publish the automator file ? Otherwise, if i create one, i'll be sure to do so.
Good luch and keep us posted !!
How does everyone find the DLUX 3 anyway ? Mine's just arrived !!

Aperture only imports .DNG files made from raw files that were created by certain cameras. Newer cameras (like my Leica D-Lux 3) may not yet be supported by OS X. Other raw-capable cameras may not yet be supported either. This hint may work for many unsupported cameras.
Aperture .DNG importing and interpretation depends on a file called Raw.plist, which lives very deep in your System folder. This file contains information about how to treat the .DNG files based on which model of camera produced the raw file.
Here's how I tricked Aperture into handling my raw photos made by my unsupported Leica:
I downloaded the free Adobe DNG Converter app (ADC) from Adobe's website. Using Image Capture, I downloaded the .raw files from my camera into a folder (called RAWs) on my desktop. I created a new folder (DNGs) on the desktop, and then told ADC to convert all files in "RAWs" and put them in "DNGs". The settings for the converter (available in the ADC's preferences) were:
    JPEG Preview->None
    Compression(Lossless) checked
    Image Conversion Method->Preserve Raw Image
Original Raw File->Embed Original Raw File->unchecked
I imported one of the .dng files into Aperture. It imports, but says that it is an unsupported image format. I looked around the metadata for the Camera Model entry. Aperture lists mine as "D-LUX 3". I wrote that down.
I started up my plist-editing application. You can use Property List Editor if you have it on your machine, I expect. I used PlistEdit Pro.
In the finder, I navigated to System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/ Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Raw.plist and copied (not moved) that file to the Desktop in case I made a mistake. I then opened the original file in its original location in PlistEdit Pro.
I found the entry most similar to the camera I have. In this case, there was a Property List called LEICA-DIGILUX 2, and the Value of that entry was Panasonic-DMC-LC1. This tells Aperture that when the camera that created the raw file is this LEICA model, treat it just like you do with that Panasonic model. The Panasonic has its own Property List with lots of data about how to interpret the raw data.
I duplicated that entry. I then edited the duplicate so the property list is called LEICA-D-LUX 3. You may need to experiment with that name, but the syntax seems to be MANUFACTURER-CAMERAMODEL. Look at the other entries for guidance; note that first hyphen seems to be mandatory. I left the reference to the Panasonic camera as it was.
I saved the edited Raw.plist file in its original location, closed all my apps, started up Aperture, and imported the DNGs without a hitch.
If your camera is totally different from all of the entries in the original Raw.plist file you may have difficulty. Your DNG files might look wretched in Aperture if you guess wrong about how the system should treat that raw data. In my case, I was lucky in that my Leica D-Lux 3 has very similar raw data to the Leica Digilux 2, which is similar to that Panasonic camera.

I have CS6 and I just got a new Leica D-LUX and can not view my RAW (.RWL) images in Bridge what do I do? I already tried updating Bridge  from the Help menu.

Did you use the Migration Assistant to help set up the new iMac using some of the files in the older PC? Some likely won't mean much, unless you have applications that can use or convert them. There's also a way to use the software Time Machine to import data files from an external or another computer, so you may have used that, too.
Hopefully someone with experience in a similar issue will reply...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I can't load raw files from a Leica d-lux 6. Says it's an unsupported file. Help please!

I cannot load raw files from a Leica d-lux 6.  Aperture says it's an unsupported file.  How do I get it to be a supported file?  Help, please!

What is your Aperture version? Here is the list of supported raw formats for Aperture 3, see: Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
Your camera is not on the list. Use the software that came with your camera to convert your raw files to dng or tiff images; then you can import the images into Aperture and work with them, while waiting for Apple to release raw support for your camera. Or shoot raw+jpeg pairs and use the jpeg while you are waiting.
Is Mac OS X (10.5.1) really your current operating system? Then you may need to upgrade, when Apple finally releases raw support for your camera. The newest raw support required Aperture 3.4. to be installed.

  • Aperture does not support raw files from my Leica d-lux 6.

When will Aperture support RAW files from a Leica d-lux 6?

You can download a free copy of Adobe DNG Converter. You then can use this program to convert the D Lux RAW files into DNG RAW files. Aperture will be able to read the DNG files. This is a bit of pain but it will work until Apple supports the D Lux in its usual glacial time span.

  • Event 109 with full import from cloud

After installing the AAD Connection Tool we find the step which does a full import from the cloud errors with stopped-extension-dll. This generates 3 error logs in Event Viewer 109 - 6801 - 6803.

    This worked for me:
Please choose the Azure Connector in Synchronization Service Manager tool, in there properties - Select Object Types - please add "device" to add the selected object ( just set the hook ) . Then again start the
    Delta or Full import, please.
If is any Device entry in the AZURE => for whatever reason => this is the only way to sync in the momment with the AAD Sync Tool at this time.
    Explanation:
    The Delta Import terminates because
the online tenant objects are of type
    "device" available
We run the import to fail because
the design of the Azure Connector does not include
    this type
    of  object
    Unfortunately, the connector does
not in this case but breaks with this
    error message
    The current solution is then
the object type "device" for the
Azure connector to add to take
In a later version of AADSync this is
    probably revised, the "device"
does not have to be selected from then on
    the object type, but that
the connector will work here and does not end
    with this error message

  • Camera Calibration Profile for Leica D-Lux Typ 109

I have Lightroom 5.7 with Camera Raw 8.7, both supposedly the latest versions, and yet I do not see any choices other than Adobe Standard under the Camera Calibration Profile menu. I have the newly supported Leica D-Lux Typ 109, and was expecting to see some camera specific choices in the Profile menu. Am I mistaken?

Most cameras only have an Adobe Standard profile:
492 camera models have Adobe Standard profile.
166 camera models have profiles in addition to Adobe Standard, mostly Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Sony.
The only Leica model that has more than an Adobe Standard profile is the M8.

  • Suport for Leica D-Lux 4?

Hello, Does anyone know when there is likely to be support for the Leica D-Lux 4 camera's RWL files?
    TIA.
    - Vikas

It appears that the D-Lux 4 and LX3 have a barrel distortion issue which the cameras deal with internally for the JPGs and (I assume) Capture One and SilkyPix deal with in their conversions from RAW files for the respective camera. Would you have any insight as to whether this presents any obstacles for Adobe?

  • Aperture 3 fails to open Leica D-Lux 6 RAW files

Aperture 3 fails to open Leica D-Lux 6 RAW files. Any patch coming soon?

Sorry, but we don't know. This is a "User to User" forum - you are not talking to Apple.
You might consider to import "raw&jpeg" while you are waiting, so you will have the raw available, when the raw support will be released.
Or use the software, that came with your camera, to develope the raw and import tiff to Aperture, while you are waiting.
